Enoch Powell of the 1970s = Nigel Farage of the 2010s. Hope that he has more impact.

“Diane Dimond writes in Real Clear Politics about the low level grumbling that risen to detectable levels since the Bergdahl affair.
The president of the United States is the commander in chief over all branches of the military. It is a historic time, given that no military member goes public to speak negatively about the ultimate commander. …
Now career military personnel are speaking out through gritted teeth, insisting they speak for active-duty personnel who cannot talk without being punished. They are speaking about injustice, ineptitude and impeachment. …
Forget what the politicians on Capitol Hill are saying about the prisoner swap. Forget the pontifications from the myriad talking heads on TV and radio. Now you know what members of our U.S. military are thinking and saying. They have lost all respect for their commander in chief.
It chills me to the bone.
And so should such reports chill one to the bone. Yet there is a big difference between grousing, which is endemic to the military, and actual rebellion. Nobody is likely to rise up and become a Man on Horseback. What may happen of course, is that like a frog slowly being boiled in a pot, the process happens so slowly that people aren’t aware of it themselves. For example, there is a silent falling away among American allies.” http://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/2014/06/08/hayek-and-ceausescus-last-speech/#more-37218

“The “small people”, the “rank and file”, the “loyal soldiers” of the narcissist – his flock, his nation, his employees – they pay the price. The disillusionment and disenchantment are agonizing. The process of reconstruction, of rising from the ashes, of overcoming the trauma of having been deceived, exploited and manipulated – is drawn-out. It is difficult to trust again, to have faith, to love, to be led, to collaborate. Feelings of shame and guilt engulf the erstwhile followers of the narcissist. This is his sole legacy: a massive post-traumatic stress disorder.

The January report determined that blocking the controversial pipeline could increase oil train traffic and lead to an additional 49 injuries and six deaths per year, mostly by using historical injury and fatality statistics for railways.
That finding was a small element of a broader examination of how building the pipeline could impact climate change, endangered species, quality of life and other issues.
But the report mistakenly used a forecast for three months of expected accidents rather than full-year figures, officials said. The correct estimate of deaths should be roughly four times as large – between 18 and 30 fatalities per year. http://uk.reuters.com/article/2014/06/06/usa-keystone-rail-idUKL1N0OG0ZX20140606
On Saturday, Al and Betty Perry were driving along Highway 14 near Tofield, Alberta when out of the sky came a massive bolt of lightning. It hit their silver Chevrolet pickup truck instantly filling the vehicle with smoke.
The airbags deployed and the metal body was rippled by the heat. Parts of the truck were completely melted. Al said he believed the electrical system inside the truck was destroyed as the doors and windows were locked and would not open. http://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/officer-describes-saving-couple-from-vehicle-struck-by-lightning-1.1857179
Just so we’re clear here – Michael Byers doesn’t know sh*t about defense policy or procurement and the watermelons at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (I understand they also have an “Academy”) couldn’t analyze a trip to the bathroom let alone complex defense policy, against which they are hopelessly biased: http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/buying-single-engine-f-35s-for-canada-a-serious-mistake-report-1.2669476
That’s true because F16s are unsafe, right; no wait a minute. Also, let’s not forget all those CF104 Starfighters that were lost over the Arctic. Not – they were lost in low and slow close air support operations, for which they were hopelessly inadequate.
It’s not as simple as that, folks. BTW, if the CF35, the only 5th generation (stealth) aircraft available, is not chosen, then don’t waste money on 4th generation fighters currently on the drawing board. They will cost as much as the CF35 with way less capability, interoperability and will be confined largely to Canadian sovereignty protection.
This would bump the EH101 helicopter cancellation and replacement with the obsolete Cyclone off the list as the greatest defense boondoggle of all time.
Super Hornets, currently in production, at half the cost will do sovereignty tasks just fine until the 6th generation (unmanned) fighters are ready.

“The unease comes from the growing suspicion that Obama doesn’t listen to them — to people who fancied themselves influential in the Democratic party. One of the foundations of insider self-esteem is to imagine you are a player. If all of a sudden you find the steering wheel through which you imagined yourself exercising influence is actually like one of those child’s toys which allow the user to pretend you’re driving — then you realize that you’re not an insider after all.
The illusion of concordance held up at first, at the start of the route on the familiar restricted byways out of the city. But ever since Hope and Change left the off-ramp it’s headed off into the blue and nobody knows where it’s going. A terrible realization has set in among insiders. This wheel is disconnected from the steering linkage.”
