Sun News 1, CBC 0

Brian Lilley was right all along.

What Lacroix didn’t answer was how he thought it was ethical to claim living expenses and take a living allowance for the same visits.
Sen. Don Plett, recently the subject of CBC stories on his own expenses, was particularly outraged. Plett pushed for and received a correction to a CBC story that inaccurately claimed high airfare and first-class travel for his wife.
“That seems to be a very important issue for CBC,” Plett said to Lacroix.
Plett pressed Lacroix on why he discovered the mistake in June, paid back in September but the public did not find out until Sun Media reported on the issue in February.

The CBC story is deja vu.

  • Paid it back
  • Unaware of the rule
  • It was checked by others
  • Predecessor did it

The only real difference between this and the Senate is that the Gov’t had to go to court to force the release of documents.

  1. Lacriox is a crook, but one has to wonder how incompetent their financial dep. must be when NO BODY KNOWS. Shut the sh!thole down.

  2. Again Sun News lights up the corruption.
According to what i heard, Harper appointed this crook and now it’s time for Mr. Harper to fire this crook.
cbc is nothing more than a swill hole for liebral advertiseing.
i don’t want my tax dollars supporting this hog trough.
Shut the place down gets my vote.

  3. So is Harper sneaky or what?
Instead of defunding CBC and suffering the outrage of those who revere, but never listen to, this “institution of Canada”,
    he appoints Lacriox.
CBC discredits its self, implodes fiscally and fades away.
Hows that for a trolling, conspiracy theory?
Great for the blame Harper drooling maniacs, but misses the natural stupidity of the nepotistic, narcissistic creatures staffing CBC.

  4. Lacroix and his CBC workers provide a clear example of the old EG Robinson gangster, who could dish it out but couldn’t take it.
For months now CBC has demonized Senators and others for expense claims, illegal housing allowances and so on. These people have been ambushed with zealous reporters, or made to squirm under a Evan Solomon inquisition. For the taxpayer there is absolutely no difference between Lacroix excesses and those of some Senators.
The difference is that Lacroix has not had a microphone shoved in his face, indeed CBC hasn’t even covered this news to any extent.

  5. Okay…we’ve got a political appointee from Quebec and we’re surprised he is involved in graft, corruption and is a hypocrite to boot. Are we really that naive? If the ROC just takes the taxes from Quebec and not give anything back with respect to equalization payments…what exactly would they do?

  6. It’s obvious that Stephen Harper has become Ottawashed,to the point there’s little difference from the Liberals.
The sacred cows of the ruling elite are being left intact, after just enough change to satisfy the conservative base, but not nearly enough. Yes, they allegedly closed the Long Gun registry, but left Bill C-68,which allows the cops to enter our homes any time to check on our firearms, intact.
And no action was taken on High River other than a mild word of protest, no calling the RCMP on the carpet to explain their illegal actions, as should have been done.
Now,the RCMP, acting more like agents of the UN disarmament lobby than a national Canadian police force, are going to steal roughly 10,000 more long guns, that have been legally purchased and owned for years, and AGAIN,with NO compensation offered.
So far, from Mr.Harper and the CPC, not much, and no orders to the RCMP to stop their reinterpretation of the laws.
Yes,he did close the wheat board, but which only affects a few people, but hasn’t touched the Marketing Boards, even though the other Countries in the Asia-Pacific free trade agreement had demanded that Canada do so. This is something that DOES affect every Canadian, but not a word from our government on any action to address government interference in the marketplace.
Stephen Harper is making the mistake of trying to be all things to all people, and it simply won’t work. The Liberals,NDP,and Greens have their own base, and they will never vote for a fascist, which is how they view the Conservatives.
Right now,the CBC is the least of my concerns. The massive boondoggle for the artsy set should be sold to any sucker that will buy it. What legitimate reason can anyone give for pissing away over a billion dollars of taxpayer’s money for a corporation that has never broke even, never come close to making a profit?
“The glue that binds the fabric of our Nation”? Overblown rhetoric with no facts to substantiate that claim. In a world where we can seek information and entertainment from a thousand sources, the CBC is a pathetic, expensive anachronism.
It ain’t 1936 anymore,Mr.Harper.Sell the bloody money losing sinkhole or just close it down permanently.

  7. Hubie should be canned, fired, let go. He paid back the money, big deal, he paid it back because he got caught.
We need to remember we’re paying for CBC French and CBC English which in effect is paying to serve Quebec in their language.
We need to go farther than canning the CBC and start to work on letting Quebec go it’s own way, it is anyway while sucking billions from the ROC. We are supposed to accommodate them in their language across the country but they do not do the same in their province which is closer to a principality with it’s hand out constantly. A good relationship cannot come from such a set-up.

  8. Don, that was very well said, and in this diatribe you fleshed out much better than I did in an email to my MP this morning.
    Ottawashed is right.

  9. Don, Good rant. I have to disagree about who Liberals, NDP and greens will never vote for.
They will absolutely vote for a fascist as long as he is Liberal, NDP or Green. They may even prefer it.

  10. If you think that there is no difference between the Harper government and those in waiting, you are either not paying attention nor thinking critically. You are right that there isn’t *enough* of a difference to satisfy conservatives (or even Conservatives), but the the hold of the Conservative Party on power in Ottawa is even more “fragile” than the economy. I would agree with you that Mr Harper has been far too timid in trying to restore sanity to the country, but when one sees the near-hysterical outcry raised against the common sense principles of the Fair Elections Act, it is possible at least to understand his excessive caution.
The advice I will be following (and pass on free of charge) is to join the CPC, go to the nominations meetings and get behind the most conservative *electable* candidate in the running. If enough people do that, and if the government survives the next election, Mr Harper (or his successor) will only have two choices: appoint more conservative Conservatives to his cabinet or have a much smaller cabinet. We win either way.

  11. Nice rant, but it does not address one issue that it should take into account. Lets say 80%of the Canadian pop. can vote, 60% turn out to vote, 40% vote for the party that wins> Than means the governing party gets their mandate form less than 20% of the pop., but they govern 100% of the pop. This is a factor that never seams to impress it’s self on any posters in any blogs, left or right, and yet it should be taken into account by any and all governing parties!!!!

  12. Ah, the “I didn’t do it (aka the Bart Simpson defense)”.
Always worth a try after a high priced legal help prep.

  13. When you say PM Harper has been Ottawashed, realise that happens to all politicians to some degree. No matter how great a majority of voters are on your side, the bureaucracy runs the government, and they run it firstly to serve the bureaucracy. The harder a Conservative government pushes for the extensive and perhaps radical reform its supporters want, the easier it will be for the civil “servants” to make them look incompetent by derailing their initiatives.
The old British sitcom Yes, Minister/ Yes, Prime Minister was a documentary.

  14. Perhaps the solution is term limits for parasites.
You can be employed by the public for no more than 5 – 10 years max per life time.no more than 5 continuous.
Or 10% of an average working life.
This way the taxpayers will always have employee who know the true cost of their help to their employer.
If tax dollars funds it, the minions are parasites.
The best we can hope for is a symbiotic relationship.
All we get now is a steady loss of energy.
