  1. What should anyone expect from a green ‘stoner’ in Afghanistan…

  2. She doesn’t mean “progressive”….she means “Marxist”. I never call them “progressives”. That is simply a tactic they use to cover their true identity.

  3. Guessing the leader of the Shiny Pony Club and/or his trainers didn’t want have Lizzie the Clown sit one out, they probably thought the NDP would suffer from the splits with her in. They goofed.
No doubt Larry Lumpkins isn’t too pleased with the outcome when his Liberals didn’t win with their parachute candidate who flew off to Ontario where he lives so fast he didn’t have time to congratulate the winner. Another case of a candidate and party thinking he could fool a few people and ride to victory on his father’s name who was once a well respected Conservative MP from Brandon-Souris.

  4. From Martin’s article; “Ms. May, who has a nuanced knowledge of issues and is a first-rate MP, counters all arguments.” That says a lot about Lawrence Martin’s political compass and judgement.
IMO Ms May has the poorest judgement of any current politician in Canada. Martin even acknowledges that under her leadership her party vote has stalled to the point of not qualifying for the voter subsidy. Martin uses the example of “regional” parties like the BQ and Reform concentrating their votes in an area. Hmm, let’s see – the Reform party leadership expanded their nascent voter and regional appeal, to the point of swallowing up the PC vote, all the way to the PMO. The BQ, by definition, stayed a regional party and even so were decimated in the last federal election. The BQ example repudiates, not supports Martin’s argument. What a poor comparison – these parties share little or nothing in common with each other.
Furthermore, Martin’s argument that the Green vote “cost” the Grits the Brandon Souris vote is repudiated by any standard of inquiry. The Reform/PC vote didn’t combine as a glaring example – it had to transform into a different political movement. Yes, 3rd candidates can upset the mix – Ralph Nader apparently upended Al Gore; maybe, but by the same token Ross Perot upended Bush the elder. The point is these fringe candidates represented third parties in a two party system. We have three main parties in our federal politics so the impact of the Green votes is only slightly better than the Heritage, Yogic Flyers and Marijuana parties.

  5. Thank larry for letting the truth out that the laurentian elite see Lizzie as a ten ton anchor to the liberal err sorry the justin party.
Nothing worse than a jilted woman…can’t wait for the debate.

  6. Lawrence Martin is possibly the worst pro-Justin/LPC shill in the MSM,and on this ,as is usual,he is completely wrong.
The Greens have a right to exist as a separate Party, but to speculate that their votes would have gone to the Liberals is just dumb.
The green vote, before the Green Party existed, belonged almost exclusively to the NDP,and should, God forbid, Ms.May expire before her time, the green vote will go right back to the NDP, probably 95% or more.
Martin should come out of the closet, though the door’s wide open and we can see him anyway, and run for the Liberals in the next election.
It’s the honest thing to do,Larry.

  7. Don, I really hate to defend the indefensible Lawrence Martin, but this election was so close that it’s at least possible that even a slight difference could have changed the outcome. Had there been no Green candidate, and one-third of the Green vote stayed home and another third voted NDP, the remaining third voting Liberal would have tipped the scales. It’s at least theoretically possible, which is damned good by Martin’s standards. He normally talks complete crap.
Of course, there’s no reason to imagine that a third of the Green vote would have voted Liberal. For my very tight money, the best take on this particular by-election was at The Black Rod (link on the left side of Kate’s page). His point was basically that everybody in the riding who wanted to vote against Harper pretty clearly came out and voted. My corollary is that those that didn’t vote Liberal pretty clearly didn’t want the Liberals to win, and wouldn’t have voted for them in any event.

  8. This is an area where we should all be thankful that the Spawn of Satan won the Liberal leadership. If Joyce Murray had won, she was prepared to unite the left under a green banner which would have likely meant the end of the conservative progressives in power.

  9. Anybody who could make the statement you quoted about bat-guano-crazy lizzie is just not paying attention.
