The militants will try to use the recent rampage of Haiyan (or Yolanda as named in the most affected country, the Philippines). This was undoubtedly one of the strongest tropical cyclones in the past century but not really “off the scale” as some have been saying. The problem is that comparisons are bound to come down to estimates of central pressure while over the open Pacific, with other storms in previous years such as Typhoon Tip in 1979 and various other typhoons in the 1960s. As usual, the climate lobby has a new talking point, wind speeds were overestimated in those years. It can’t really be documented or proved, but in any case, nobody really knows whether Haiyan (or Yolanda) dropped below 900 mbs or how low its central pressure might have been before it reached land. Those in the know seem comfortable with values between 885 and 900 mb at some point, and those values are not out of line with previous records. The same comment applies to maximum wind speeds estimated to have been around 170 knots gusting to 230 knots at landfall (not in Tacloban which is actually outside the path of the eyewall, the problem in Tacloban was a concentrated storm surge into its harbour, winds were more like cat-3 intensity there and lowest pressure recorded by a storm chaser 960 mb at which time perhaps the eye was around 920 mb making landfall 15-25 km south of the city at Palo and Tanauan).
So there’s your talking points kids, go forth and de-mystify the folks before they clamour for a chance to pay Big Carbon Taxes to save Gaia from that 8 cm sea level rise that has Davee S all a quiver (or was that the security girls?).
The Guardian noticed? well that’s somewhat interesting, although their spin on it begins in the first sentence where they point out Australia “failed” to send a representative from the ministerial level and that their former PM Rudd had once attended.
Peter O’Donnell, I work with a couple of guys that often strike up political conversations with me (I don’t even know why?) they stated that the recent typhoon that swept over The Philippines was the strongest ever. Ever. They said that CNN had stated this and when I asked if “ever” included any time before say, the year 1900, I drew blank faces from them. It seems “ever” means whatever one may want it to mean.
Warsaw climate talks. Biggest gathering of fraud artists and snake oil salesmen in 2013.
This comment from one Guardian Green was priceless.
“If Australia and Canada refuse to cap in good faith they must bear boycotts/tariffs on their exported goods and be left behind in the new world green(er) economy. China too.”
Yah? This would be the Canada with whom the European Union just signed a major trade agreement?
China? The principal country buying high tech goods and machinery produced in Europe?
The disconnection of lefty greens from reality is sometimes a marvel to behold.
Warsaw in November has about the same drawing power as Timbuctu in July, Fairbanks in February, or Mogadishu any time of the year. These people not only can’t figure out climate variability, they can’t figure out how to promote their macabre viewpoint, even among their own.
But they increased the number of bureaucrats attending from 9,000 at the last meeting to 10,000 at this one! Progress!
they send a lot of juniors , and those kids need a chaperone, or a mom!!
A prepaid vacation for 10,000 wanabee tree huggers. They must be disappointed that for a change it wasn’t some warm exotic location. Warsaw in November might make them realize a bit of global warming is something Poles dream about.
Those who bothered to show walked by protesters with pictures of the “Arctic 30”. No one cares to go to this waste of time and no one cares about these twits.
Maybe there is hope for the world.
3 out of 10 didn’t send ministers because they didn’t want to increase their carbon footprint, I guess.
Yeah. That’s it…..
They didn’t want to increase their carbon footprint.
What a bunch of doorknobs.
Although I miss Canada’s clear world leadership, it is good to see the increasingly strong showing of other countries. For me it’s all about the fossil awards.
Hmmm. Would that be 30%? Or if one uses the calculators provided to the warmist groups, would that be 300%?
Finally the push back to sanity is beginning. The liars are in retreat.
