We Don’t Need No Stinking Giant Fans

Study says wind farms have killed ‘alarming’ number of eagles in past 5 years.

The research affirms an AP investigation in May, which revealed dozens of eagle deaths from wind energy facilities and described how the Obama administration was failing to fine or prosecute wind energy companies, even though each death is a violation of federal law.
Documents obtained by the AP under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act show that in two cases in Iowa federal investigators determined that a bald eagle had been killed by blunt force trauma with a wind turbine blade. But neither case led to prosecution.

  1. But Gaia needs regular sacrifices to keep her happy. Isn’t that what the giant rotating knives are for? We’ve come so far since the old days of throwing the sacrifices into the volcano, haven’t we?(/sarc)

  2. The old Latin America El Supremo rule number one
on how to rule moves north and gets updated:
    “For my family, friends, enviro-scammers,
    rent seeking crooks anything.”
    “For everyone else, the law.”

  3. I hate wind turbines, but to be fair you can hardly prosecute the energy companies for constructing these things when the government has given the green light knowing full well that these machines kill a lot of birds.
Vote leftists out of office like the Aussies did.

  4. Steve, you can blame the Energy companies to some degree because they lobbied Government for the business (and the subsidies).

  5. White people are not even allowed to have a gifted eagle feather here in Canada without the feds showing up at your door as demonstrated recently here in Alberta, and these monoliths to political stupidity slice and dice birds Vince style all day long. Sacrafices to the great Goracle I guess.

  6. Clearly the death of ducks is a greater travesty than the killing of an endangered species or 2, or 3.

  7. I agree, Steve. Each individual eagle killing is an “accident”, and wasn’t done purposefully. But the government and the rent-seeking crony capitalists behind the wind farms are ultimately responsible. The solution is to tear down the monstrosities, seeing as they really don’t contribute any useful energy.

  8. Change “wind farms” to “oil sands” or “coal plants” and hold onto your
hats for the outrage. Maybe a spoof article quoting the same statistics,
but for another energy source might be in order….

  9. In my book, humans are more important than freakin’ birds. So I wouldn’t really care that much that some birds got chopped if the d@mn windmills actually produced any electricity.
But they don’t. They just chop birds and eat government cheese.

  10. The killing of an eagle is not a crime if it occured during the quest to achieve Lord ..bama’s dream. In fact nothing is a crime or even morally wrong when done to further America’s dear leaders dream.

  11. There are certain people on this planet I’d be glad to toss into a volcano.
Of course, they may feel the same way about me. It’s best to be prepared, just in case. 😉

  12. When I put it to my leftist acquaintance (and enthusiastic bird watcher) that wind turbines kill a lot of birds, he sighted and said, yes, regrettably, but guy wires for antennae killed more. It was news to me. However, it does seem part of the new party line: regrettably, wind turbines kill birds but other already existing structures kill more of them. So there.
Oh yes, when I remarked to my leftist acquaintance that wind turbines should be subjected to the same environmental reviews as other power sources he shrugged the idea off.

  13. An interesting remark. That is characteristic of jihad. Any deed however cruel, brutal, or bloody which advances the spread of Islam is meritorious.

  14. Impossible. I haven’t seen this on CBC. And they ALWAYS reported when wildlife was killed by the ‘tarsands’ energy sector, so I’m sure they’d report when Bald Eagles were being killed in huge numbers by a different energy source.

  15. my new business – 1. get a permit for a new windmill. 2. collect government monies. 3. collect bodies of eagles and other raptors collected by my ‘harvester’. 4. Claim my Aboriginal American rights to the bodies of aforementioned byproduct of my ‘harvester'(as an adopted child of undocumented origins, I will claim Flathead tribal origins akin to that blonde lady from the East’s claim of Amerindian bloodline). Sell the feathers to fellow Amerindian tribal members for their ceremonial/medicinal uses. 5. Take profits, buy another harvester, etc. etc. repeat as necessary. Hypocrites, Morons, Liars, Shysters, Carpetbaggers, – I need a new Thesaurus to describe these Loons (and no offense to feathered Loons meant).

  16. If said envirowackos were given the opportunity to try flight around a wind turbine?
    They might rethink it.
I’m thinking trebuchet turned with the wind…
