Zimbabwe’s “Blacks-Only” Stock Exchange

Don’t. Tell. Obama.

And not trade just anything, but shares of recently nationalized foreign companies, most of which are South African-owned miners. Or rather were, because following the most recent nationalization round, Zimbabwe would take a 51% stake in all major foreign-owned companies valued at over $7 billion. No compensation will be paid.

  1. Watch for the same theft to occur in Kenya after 2017,when the Chimp in Chief goes back home.Oh wait.He has all ready started it in the USSA,as per Kate’s related link.

  2. OT: Kate, your ears should be burning – and in a good way. I just read Mark Steyn’s most recent conversation with Hugh Hewitt – this one about how to improve the sorry state of American journalism – and there you are in this excerpt from the transcript:
    MS: Yeah, and you know, again, you’ve got to be careful what happens there. I mean, I saw, there’s a blogger in Saskatchewan of all places who I love to read called Kate McMillan. And she had a one-line comment on Obama cancelling his meeting with Vladimir Putin this week. She just put in one line. He’s also sending back the bust of Lenin.
    HH: (laughing)
    MS: Which I thought was a great line. Now Kate McMillan is just sitting there in the middle of Saskatchewan doing this for free, and it’s actually better…
    HH: That’s very good.

    sda gets results!

  3. So,they’re going to mix ghetto persons-of-color into non-p-of-c neighbourhoods to give the poc’s the advantages the white folks enjoy?
    This isn’t social engineering,it’s social lunacy. No one seems to realize that the basis of white privilege is hard work,without that a non-poc would be stuck in his own ghetto.

  4. The only thing stopping Zimbabwe from being the poorest country in the world is the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Of course the Congo has had the benefit of a horrific civil war, so it really isn’t a fair contest.
    My guess is that no foreign company will be willing to invest in Zimbabwe for a very long time, ensuring that it will continue to hold its exalted place in the world rankings.

  5. Malibu and Manhattan get my vote for ‘social’ housing. Any ‘gated’ community full of liberals after that…

  6. Zimbabwe Mon, the future as envisioned by the takers.
    It is a success, Zimbabwe has the most billionaires on planet Earth.
    Of course a loaf of bread is only a few million Zimbabwe dollars, but socialists cannot add, counting is so capitalist.
    On the bright side, by stealing from the South Africans, dear leader, will cut Zimbabwe off from their last supporters. The stolen companies will collapse as the thieves know no bounds and the former bread basket of Africa will face poverty, famine and lawlessness for decades to come.
    Almost as if planned? The UN and world bank are all heavily invested in promoting manmade global warming, the cures for which all impoverish poor people and seek to perpetuate their poverty. Predominantly poor brown peoples, like the residents of Zimbabwe.
    Nah… just a coincidence.

  7. Obama has already done that when he stole the GM bondholder’s money to pay off the United Autoworkers pension deficit.
    He just calls it “spreading the wealth around” rather than nationalizing.

  8. I presume that anyone who had investments in Zim would have milked them for everything and reinvested nothing in the last 20 years. It was inevitable. Tin pot dictators who nationalized foreign operations were usually cut out of markets and technological advances.

  9. Detroit used to be a very prosperous mixed race city until the riots and the “murder city USA” 1,000 murders per year. Then the white people left. They didn’t discriminate, they left. To maintain racial balance, they don’t need to move blacks into white neighborhoods, they just need to have armed guards keeping the whites in.

  10. If South Africa has any sense, they would send their army into Zimbabwe, depose Mugabe, and string him (and most of his cronies) up from lamp posts, and annex the country. Bad as South Africa is, it would represent an improvement to most of the unfortunates in Zim.

  11. With what will the starving masses purchase stock? Who would want to invest in the country, save someone who is stupid or incredibly greedy and think a return from this equally greedy despotic state is inevitable?
    From forced bussing to forced housing. Sit back and watch the train wreck.

  12. There will be no further investment in Zimbabwe for decades. What happens to the Zimbabwean economy when the current mines play out? Yes, I know that the Zim economy is not even sound enough to be a basket case, but let’s pretend.
    There are no longer any trillionaires in Zimbabwe since it abandoned its currency in 2009. You can buy a $50 Trillion Zim dollar bill on ebay for $1.39 plus S+H.

  13. Fred “Obama has already done that when he stole the GM bondholder’s money to pay off the United Autoworkers pension deficit.”
    The stupidity being that many of the GM bonds were owned by pension funds of others. The thing I can’t understand is that after hosing the shareholders and creditors of old GM some idiots bought shares in new GM with none of its old problems solved.

  14. gordonkneehill;
    Recently had a visit from a family member who is flying oil rig crews out to platforms off Angola. He lives in a camp there 4 weeks in, 3 weeks out. He has traveled much of Africa because of the job.
    The things that stick out to him are;
    1) The overall level of incompetence. Angola is trying to replace foreign workers with Angolans but they are either not trained enough or unmotivated.
    2) Nothing happens in Africa without a bribe. He thinks that Angola is actually the most stable country in Africa because the oil revenue is padding the politicans palms and they will do anything to ensure it continues.
    3) The Chinese are moving into Africa everywhere. They also bring their own labout because of #1 above.
    4) South Africa’s slide downhill is accelerating. The black elite live in gated communities like most whites. These communities have their own security as more people are jumping the walls and doing B&E’s and even robberies, daylight or no.

  15. Socially engineered diversity neighbourhoods?
    Worked like a hot damn in Detroit, didn’t it?

  16. CT, agreed that South Africa is no paradise, but they have not yet fallen so far as to kill the mining companies, the geese that lay the golden eggs. And since many of the companies affected by this grab in Zimbabwe are South African, the country has a dog in the fight.

  17. Zimbabwe . The very Model of socialist , Collectivist Utopia in action. They even have a cult of personality.

  18. gordonkneehill;
    South Africa has currency controls so that emigrants cannot take their savings with them. Ex-pats talk about returning to South Africa for reunions but I am told the real purpose to smuggle money out somehow.
    Zimbabwe, actually Rhodesia cannot sink much further. Do any leftards have any remorse about destroying a country that was actually providing better for all its citizens than Moogabi ever dreamt of? A exporter of foodstuffs to starving people.

  19. Zimbabwe = Detroit = …
    Notice a pattern?
    Here’s a little factoid for everyone: Brian Malroney *supported* Mugabe when he came to power.
    And here is what the son of a bitch Trudeau said about Rhodesians immigrating to Canada, at a press conference when visiting Jamaica:
    “I am certainly not panting to have this immigration movement take place … If they are liberals, white liberals, they should stay and have nothing to fear after Rhodesian independence. If they’re … racist, why shouldn’t you [Jamaica] receive them rather than us?”

  20. TJ;
    Turdeau Sr was no different that the majority of progressives of his time. He was a Commie but aren’t most socialists.
    Progressives talk off the top because they cannot think anymore concisely to actually form solid opinion and because they know that they will not have to answer for their actions. The world ganged up on Rhodesia, so what? No one has been called to the UN to answer for the deaths that caused.
