A government watchdog has found for the first time that confidential tax records of several political candidates and campaign donors were improperly scrutinized by government officials, but the Justice Department has declined to prosecute any of the cases.
Its investigators also are probing two allegations that the Internal Revenue Service “targeted for audit candidates for public office,” the Treasury’s inspector general for tax administration, J. Russell George, has privately told Sen. Chuck Grassley.

I suppose the real story/issue underlying the current revelations of abusive, illegal use of the IRS as a political hit machine, is the fact the way income tax is collected by the IRS is illegal – intimidation, bullying, lying, and outright theft have been mainstream IRS tactics for decades. Any moral and constitutionally aligned congress would have reformed the tax system years ago – America , and to the same degree, Canada, are long over due for a grass roots tax revolt.

  4. During the 2012 presidential campaign, Harry Reid claimed to have intimate knowledge of what was secretly inside Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s tax returns.
    As President Obama’s campaign slammed Romney nearly every day for not releasing more tax returns, the Senate majority leader repeatedly made the unsubstantiated claim that, at one point in his life, Romney hadn’t paid taxes for almost a decade.
    He even did so from the floor of the U.S. Senate.
    “The word’s out that he hasn’t paid any taxes for 10 years,” the Nevada Democrat claimed on the floor in August. “Let him prove that he has paid taxes, because he hasn’t.”
    It made big news at the time, but Reid’s old accusations are popping back up now that it’s been revealed that the IRS has been targeting conservative groups and in some cases, reportedly leaking their tax information.
    Will Harry Greed have a Senate investigation for the IRS?
    Did Mr. Greed use illegally obtained tax documents to slander Romney from the Senate floor?
    Will Harry Greed resign or go to jail?
    We will have to wait and see if the tea party, independents,
    or republicans have the balls to impeach him if they take the Senate in 2014.

  5. A regime using the tax ministry to target real or imagined political enemies is not a new policy. This was a regular policy of socialist governments during the last century and particularly so in Russia during the 1920s.
