In stark contrast to the nearly naked girls…

There’s Suzuki again – always got a young chick around…even when he’s rafting.
Funny they are still trying to justify the soft porn in SI as some kind of “art” project or in this case, some lofty idealistic effort. Everyone who has been on the planet for more than 20 years knows this SI issue is a cheap stroke mag for yabbos that they can buy right off the racks at 7-11.
Let’s drop the pretension SI.
makes me wanna rnn out and buy a copy..
which I havent done in 55 years..
Oh I see SI is attempting to raise its circulation again. Yawn

As are all those cryiing “racist!”, which translates to “I’m better than you because I care more than you therefore I should rule over you.” Yawn indeed, but keep an eye on them.
Racist indeed — showing all those white women in bikinis obviously subservient and beholden to the various ethnic representatives who have the power and control over them. I demand immediate compensation, starting with a free copy of the mag.
SI swimsuite issueis traditional. As is the left’s obsession with race.
My brain gets very confused when you send me to a Huffington Post link but there’s pictures of swimsuit models when I get there.
The word “racist” has become so diluted as to be meaningless. My dog doesn’t like carrots. Racist mutt.
Frankly, I find the “native people” more attractive than the bikini-clad models who themselves appear to be “exotic backdrops.”
What’s more exotic than a bikini-clad blonde sitting on a Cormorant fishing boat in Guilin, Guangxi, People’s Republic of China?
I’ll bet she made the boatman’s day! 😉
The S.I. swimsuit issue is designed to increase circulation.
Since it does increase my circulation. It succeeds and is well designed.
As for being “exotic”, well, in some parts of the world I’d be considered exotic, too.
Though, admittedly, not magazine cover material. 🙂
Talk about late-to-the-show. SI has been using “native people” as props and backdrops for *decades*. Heck, I remember a photo of Kathy Ireland back in the late 70s or early 80s where she was giving a possibly seductive look to a young boy some place in the Caribbean. I guess that would labeled “racist” and “child porn” in today’s climate.
There were people standing next to the models? Hmmmm….must have missed that.
“Exotic props”?
I thought that’s what the models were supposed to be.
Let’s just call everyone “racist!!” and be done with it.
What’s more interesting to me is the slideshow of past covers. The early ones show normal women – almost chubby by today’s standards, who are moderately modestly dressed. The ‘artistic prop choices’ (racist, really? Projecting much?) don’t make as much of an impact on me as how the women in the past decade are all striking CFM poses.
People who work in any “Department of Critical Culture, Gender, and Race Studies” already hate the SI swimsuit issue. It “demeans” women.
The use of local people in this year’s photos, wearing the clothing they wear every day is simply another way for them to express their displeasure. The demeaned women become colonialist oppressors.
Put fashion clothing on the models and publish the photos in National Geographic and no one says a word about oppression or “racism”.
I’m very offended that my tax dollars are wasted on university “courses” that attract only small minded, vicious creatures who hate western culture. I may have to go out and buy a copy of the SI swimsuit issue as therapy.
As my wife looked over my shoulder as I was doing my scientific research on these “exotics”,and said,”what are you looking at”?
To which I replied,”I was looking at these girls because they remind me of you dear”.
To which she replied,”you’re SO full of sh**”!
After forty years,it’s hard to get away with anything.
Kate Upton needs to tone up that belly, she looks like she’s about five months preggers.
If that’s racism I can only say…..Long live racism.
When I hear of a “Department of Critical Culture, Gender, and Race Studies”, I think of graduates spending decades paying down college debt at crappy, low paying jobs.

That day probably paid the boatman more than most days, and for less actual work.
my glasses melted!!!!!
thanx Kate, I now need to buy a new pair:-)))

Progressives are themselves the worst offenders at trivializing individuals in favour of group identity caricatures. One time, at a banquet, my friend was receiving an achievement award from the university. He’s part Metis, somewhere way back. Well, at award time, out comes a train of native dancers avec drummer, huge feather head dresses and all. I happened to be seated at his table with the family. Even their good manners couldn’t shield their embarrassed expressions of shocked incredulity. They weren’t offended, but shocked that such a display was for them. Anyone who had taken the time to know the recipient wouldn’t have done such a thing. But as usual, the whole shebang wasn’t really about awarding anyone – it was to make progressives feel good about themselves. On the taxpayer’s dime.
Both the people and/or the organizations who float the racist meme, plus the readers of SI who do not have the courage to buy “skin mags” straight up are RACA.
Raca is not an acronym! If it is unfamiliar to you look it up. Cheers;
Are these the same leftoid progressives that rush to get every visible and invisible minority in every sitcom, drama, movie and Obambam speech? same group of whahoos that would tsk tsk the very same SI crew if they didn’t include the proper quotient of local flora and fauna. JFK had said something about not pleasing all of the people anytime.
For the record, as a male and photographer, I do collect that annual issue, so shoot me. Occam obviously hasn’t wandered the internet if he thinks this is “a cheap stroke mag”. Sometimes, enjoying the nice looks of a bikini clad model set in an exotic location is just that. It’s not that a model wearing a Ski-doo suit, ice fishing on Diefenbaker Lake wouldn’t boost sales of any magazine but Saskatchewan isn’t that exotic a locale.
Aaaah….the perpetually offended and if the human race ever reaches that nervana of perfect equality they’ll start complaining that all humans are dull and show no individual uniquiness.
She has soft rounded curves, very sexy. More sexy that a 6 pack abs.
Didn’t National Geographic invent the semi-naked-wimmins-in-magazine-format?
I remember as a kid, my first NatGeo glimpse of female breasts, albeit of the Cameroon hue and pendulature.
It was several more years before I discovered they didn’t ALL have nipples that drooped below their waists.
Well I guess SI has lost the all-important feminist market.
Except for some lesbians who will claim they’re buying it for the articles.
Sports illustrated hacked off some Lefties?
Well done SI. Carry on.
Dear Lefties, give me a call when some old Chinese guy complains about being on a boat with Miss Awesome in a bathing suit. Or complains about getting paid to do it, anyway.
Oh, spear me!
The contrast re Kate Upton posed with a penguin in Antarctica is staggering…what, couldn’t get a local Antarctican to pose? The author of this piece should try to acquire at least a grade school education.
Jamie: BEST COMMENT EVER (please use comic book guy voice when reading this)!
So according to the professor there is not one “real” Chinese man who looks like this. Well, I’ve seen a few loggers fairly recently that many would think just finishes feeding Babe the Blue Ox. I would dare to suggest that any further NOVA, NatGeo or any other programs involving people not wearing birkenstocks and drinking lattes in the Mekong Delta be taken out of viewing because they would obviously be racist.
It’s alright for the lefty crowd to note how quaint the “coloured” people are. They’re multicultural. It’s also alright for them to “celebrate” women in all their forms. They then will denounce themselves for being innately racist and sexist.
How can these yahoos NOT be mentally ill?
Egad….my life is complete. SDA now sports a centre-fold. Perfect!!
One of the HuffPo commenters made a very good point. He (or she) said that the constant refrain of “racism!” is crying wolf, because real instances of racism will be watered down or glossed over.
One of the quotes in the article referred to “whiteness”. As used by the left, this term is itself racist.
I’m not the only one who has said this, but I’ll repeat it again: “You’re a racist” is the only weapon the left has, because it has abandoned reason.
It’s time to BAN ethnic people from western magazines!!!
