  1. Citi’s global outlook:

Only Canada and the Scandianavian countries are likely to retain a AAA-rating over the long term.

Too many A’s, in my opinion; too hard on the eyes. I blame Stephen Harper.

  3. The Paramilitarized Bureaucracies
In fact, it already is. On January 1, the FATCAT Act (technically, it’s FATCA, but we all get the acronymic message) imposes a whole new bunch of burdensome regulations and punitive fines on Americans with non-U.S. bank accounts…..
Americans now enjoy less financial freedom than Canadians, Swedes, and Italians. When I mentioned this on NRO recently, I received a fair few e-mails from readers saying they have no plans to work abroad or buy a second home, so why should they care?

  4. EBD, thanks for the Merle Haggard song. It and many others of his are on albums we have. Since converted to cds. His words ring true today. The Bolsheviks never quit.
Mike in Calgary, Eastwood is still great.

  5. I am watching Romney speak and either my eyes are getting worse p they need cleaning, as I do not see a teleprompter.

  6. Ken, the teleprompters are invisible on the camera side of them. Don’t know how they do it, it’s one of those modern opto/technological marvels.

  7. Allan s: those are interesting stats but the Abpc is spending far more per capita than either on or QC (even moreso when you calculate it on an age-adjusted basis And that is the most damning statistic.

  8. Interesting link and read about the polls @ 11:15.
Statistics and polls have been used for decades to steer agendas in many areas of our lives.
Many moons ago, my statistics prof at Brock told us in the first class that the same statistics can be manipulated to show opposing points of view. D@# the manipulators.

  9. It is very funny, Reginald – I actually posted it as a Tips video last year.
RT: Ann Coulter, during an appearance on America live:

“Republicans are terrified people won’t understand what they are saying. Democrats are terrified people will understand what they are saying. That’s why they talk in images and myths and slogans. And that works on a crowd.”

  10. That Marco Rubio: Frickin awesome!!!!
Should be Chapters 1-5 for any student thinking of public speaking.
I almost joined the Marines, right then and there!!
    Contrast him with… well…. Stephane Dion.Remember him?
    Make you wanna hurl…

  11. Clint Eastwood was powerful. LOVED his ease in holding the audience right in the palm of his hand. Brilliant, funny and original! He said it ALL. Rubio was inspiring, and Mitt Romney showed greatness. The benediction was given by exactly the right person, Cardinal Dolan. I’m glad I watched.

  12. Re: Merle Haggard “The Fightin side of me!”
Thanks EBD!! I remember throwing a few quarters in the Rock-O-La juke box and playing that song during the Vietnma war. Some hippie would get up and go and ask the bartender to turn it down or shut it off. Then the hawks (guys in favor of the war) would grab the hippie and give him a choice. The song or the door?? Usually, the hippie was out numbered up so he would shut up and sit down.
Now, at 64, I no longer frequent bars. Thank God. I do have a scar on my chin from a beer glass that came flying at me. A momento of those good old days.

  13. #CBC George Strombo ad on TV. 2 union jobs moving the red chair that could easily be done by one person. Typical CBC over staffing.

  15. Hypothetical situation. An American politician releases a flyer with the following statement:
“(my opponent) has allowed crime to go up over 50% in our negrohood so far this year.” (emphasis mine)
The politician’s treasurer resigned in disgust, as his home address was used as the contact person on the flyer without his permission.
The flyer attracts almost zero media attention.
Is the politician a Republican or a Democrat?

  19. CBC`s story this AM:
“Toronto ‘slut walk’ takes to city streets”
This story is closed for commenting.
Question: During what great moment in history did sluts cease to become sluts??

  20. The Onion (usually brilliant) has joined the list of things in this world which have let me down. Now I admit I haven’t read “Gay Marine Beaten To Bloody Pulp To Fire Up RNC Crowd” – for all I know it’s brilliant satire, just like “GOP Convention To Feature Strong Lineup Of Conservative Women Listeners”. But someone please take a look at this and tell me if it can possibly be as downright ugly and as utterly devoid of any scintilla of humour as I think it is.

  21. @ Black Mamba
Thin line between funny and stupid. The McCain piece is about as stupid as it can get. Way over the line.

  22. I know McCain is not exactly a very conservative guy per say but he’s still a heck of a patriot. At one point in his speech he said basically he owes America. The man spent years in a torture chamber for his country and he still figures he owes his nation. I wasn’t a big onion reader before but never again.

“Merkel urges China to avoid solar cell clash”
“Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged Chinese leaders to end trade restrictions and stop alleged price dumping by its manufacturers. She voiced special concern over China’s stance on Europe’s stuttering solar cell industry.
At the end of her two day visit to China Chancellor Merkel attended German-Chinese trade talks in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin. She said Germany would ask the EU Commission to waive an anti-dumping probe wanted by EU ProSun, a grouping of some 20 European solar companies
Several German firms, seen as pioneers in Germany’s drive to replace its nuclear power sector with renewables, have filed for insolvency in recent months.”

  24. Black Mamba, the Onion piece exemplifies evil. Time to call that mindset what it is.

  25. Thanks Robert, but to me, ANY Stephie video would do. Foghorn Leghorn would have burried that POS.
