Excerpt from a speech given in Ohio yesterday by Mitt Romney:
I’m starting to really like Mitt Romney.

EBD: I’m impressed, too. That’s a pretty good speech.
A poll that looks like it needs some help.

A small win in the fight against voter fraud:
“This morning, in a victory for election integrity, a Pennsylvania district court judge denied a preliminary injunction to stop Pennsylvania’s new voter ID law from going into effect….Judge Robert Simpson flatly rejected the challengers’ attempt to ‘inflate the numbers’ of disenfranchised voters—which he estimated were ‘somewhat more than 1% and significantly less than 9%,’ as claimed by the petitioners. He also found that the testimony of the petitioners’ expert was ‘not credible’ and demonstrated bias.”
Related: Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has issued executive order in defiance of Obama’s Deferred Action program, which would allow illegal alien is to avoid deportation for at least a two-year period. Brewer’s order prevents the state from issuing ID or driver’s licenses to illegals who have received the Obama-sponsored deferral.
John Batchelor is seriously wondering if Joe Biden may be mentally ill. If you know Batchelor then you know it’s not an ad hominem attack but a legitimate concern about the VP.

That depression-era tune certainly fits, now if the Prez will repeal Prohibition,as did FDR in 1933, the U.S. can use the hundreds of millions of new tax dollars to fund more green initiatives!

The MSM still pimping AGW? You bet!
Thanks for the great Steyn column, TJ. I was away last weekend when it was published, so I might otherwise have missed it.

I would like to say Saguenay Mayor Jean Tremblay is total and complete asshole. The enemies in Quebec are not people like Djemila Benhabib.
Here is an immigrant who is totally integrated and even embrace the Quebec national cause.
We need more people like Djemila Benhabib in Quebec actually.
The enemies are Harper and gang. Let’s keep focus.

Have a look at http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/314081/trouble-joe-john-fund.
I’m also of a mind that they probably are stuck with him: I feel that a change now would look and smell like damage control, admitting a mistake, cutting and running, etc. (take your pick) and would consequently do more harm than good to Obama. The time to have made the change was in the spring, with an announcement of Joe’s impending retirement from politics just around the time that Mitt secured the GOP nomination and well before Romney stole a march with the Ryan nomination.
Instead, we got Obama being led by the nose into the gay marriage position, Obama dividing Americans right from left, Obama unifying the Republican Party in a way that Romney could only have dreamed of (and certainly well ahead of schedule), Obama missing an opportunity for something new (he’s very good at never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity), etc., etc. (take your pick).
This predicament is vintage Obama: waiting too long, not understanding the danger, not exercising independent political judgment, reactive change versus anticipatory change, etc., etc., etc. (take your pick).
To John Fund’s point, quite apart from her getting no support from the White House on Syria, why would Hillary agree to step in now?
As far as the MSM coming belatedly to a position that all might not be right with Biden, I see that as nothing more than an effort to provide Obama with some cover should he decide on a change.
Quebecois NDP separatiste, 3:24a.m. —
“The enemies are Harper and gang. Let’s keep focus.”
With all due respect, I’m not just getting exactly what it is that Mr. Harper has done to earn the moniker, “enemy of Quebec”.
Interference in language policy? Quebec’s language policy, with all its purported problems from the perspective of Quebec nationalists, is one of Quebec’s making, not Mr. Harper’s.
The long-gun registry data and the national securities regulator? If memory serves, it was the Quebec government that took Ottawa to court over these issues, not vice-versa. And it seems that Quebec has been doing pretty well in court on these items…
How about…decentralization of health care decision-making, with funding quarantees? Did that ever happen under a Quebec-dominated federal government, or was it more like, “we’re unilaterally cutting funding, but you still have to follow the Canada Health Act”?
EI and environmental regulatory reform? I’d say that there’s a pretty strong economic case (with which some may disagree) for these changes, but how were they directed at Quebec precisely? It seems to me that Quebec’s insistance that economic principles do not apply in its case is more of a threat to Quebec’s prosperity than anything Mr. Harper has done within these areas of federal jurisdiction.
So perhaps you could actually provide, you know, some reasons as to why you think we should keep focussed on the notion that Mr. Harper is the “enemy of Quebec”, as you claim. Mr. Harper (“and gang”) strikes me as pro-Canada with a more national perspective on all these issues than any of his predecessors — or anybody likely to fill his shoes from any of the other parties.
If the PQ were serious about separation and would actually hold a referendum, they could raise a small fortune from outside of Quebec.
I,for one,and from a ROC perspective think that the ‘winning conditions’ window is wide open.
The Blueing of Canada.
More, please. Good work from Canada’s Conservative government.

“OTTAWA — A centrepiece of the Ottawa landscape has been renamed to honour Canada’s first prime minister, Sir John A. Macdonald.
John Baird, the member of Parliament for the area and Canada’s Foreign Affairs minister, announced Wednesday the Ottawa River Parkway would be renamed. He then unveiled a sign at the Deschênes Rapids bearing the parkway’s new name, the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway.
Ottawa author Bob Plamondon has been trying to get the roadway renamed since last November, when he started collecting support on an online petition.”

David Southam, yes, Obama could have gotten rid of Biden earlier.
But does Obama ever make any political or economic or other decisions? Obama’s only capability is to emotionally manipulate others into a state of adulation of Him. That’s as far as he goes.
Moving on from that state of adulation and subservience to an action, a decision on policy, is not something, I suggest, of which Obama is capable. As you say, such a refusal to make a decision is ‘vintage Obama’.
Just as he left all editorial duties to others when he was the Editor of the Harvard Law Review, just as he merely voted ‘present’ during his time in the Senate, he leaves all decisions on policies and actions in the presidency to others.
When he is required to make a decision, he goes through months of pendulum swings, until, finally, someone steps in and makes him ‘say the word’ – but that takes months.
With regard to Biden, the problem is not merely his gaffes but the two-of-them. Romney and Ryan present a fresh, innovative and dynamic team. Obama in 2008 had the same imagery. Biden was set up back then, despite the reality of him being an ignorant emptiness, as a ‘stable senior servant’.
Now? Obama can’t run on his record. There are serious problems in the nation. He can’t Blame Bush in every speech. The two of them are coming across as ‘overdone’ and dried out.
Can Obama be persuaded to get rid of Biden? Too late. But, will the Obama Gang who really run the show move in, and tell Biden to, himself, resign? I think that’s plausible.
Who would be the replacement? Everyone says Hillary. If she has any brains, she’d refuse because she must be cautious that if Obama goes down in the election then so will she.
The Democrats have prevented young new people from coming into the upper level of the party, while the GOP have deliberately encourages this. The Democrats have no-one other than Hillary, and, picking a young new but powerful face as a VP would great upset a pathological narcissist like Obama. He can only handle a non-entity.
So, we’ll see. I agree with your view that the MSM is simply providing a cover by suggesting that all is not right with Biden.
A poll in need of some assistance.

And I think it definitely makes beating Obama tougher. The clintons know how to campaign. Hill’s husband is seen as an economic genius by many dems and no doubt he will be weighing in.
The big IF is: is Obama too big of a narcissist to let HRC share and perhaps over shadow him, not just during the campaign but during the next term (he will have even more time for golf…)
I suspect Que NDP cultist does not like PM Harper because he is not a communist.

John Hinderaker over at Power Line:
DISHONORABLE DISCLOSURES: IT’S DYNAMITE
The Obama administration, to its everlasting shame, has eagerly leaked sensitive national security information to advance its own partisan political interests. The killing of Osama bin Laden by special forces who had been on the job for years was the most grotesque, but not the only, example. Special forces operators and intelligence officials were outraged by Obama’s leaks, as were many others, including Democratic Senators.
So a bunch of special operators and intelligence professionals got together to protest against the Obama administration’s irresponsibility. The result is this video, titled “Dishonorable Disclosure.” It is dynamite: the production values are excellent, and the message is overpowering. The video is 22 minutes long, but trust me: it is riveting, and goes fast. You should watch the whole thing, to appreciate how dishonorable the Obama administration is when it comes to national security.

The PQ have always kept a token visible minority in caucus for propaganda purposes, in an attempt to trick people who aren’t French Canadians unemployable in anything but a make-work Quebec government job to vote for them.
Benhabib is just their latest housegirl, who by rights should have been sent posthaste to a holding cell and kept there till her daddy coughed up the money for a one-way plane ticket back to Algiers just for this.
We know very well who the enemy is in Quebec, QNDP, and it’s not Stephen Harper. Give us a heads-up when the PQ get around to running people for office with names like MacMillan or Cohen. You’re not fooling anybody but yourself.
Dishonorable Disclosure:
“Intelligence and Special Operations forces are furious and frustrated at how President Obama and those in positions of authority have exploited their service for political advantage. Countless leaks, interviews and decisions by the Obama Administration and other government officials have undermined the success of our Intelligence and Special Operations forces and put future missions and personnel at risk.”
“The unwarranted and dangerous public disclosure of Special Forces Operations is so serious — that for the first time ever — former operators have agreed to risk their reputations and go ‘on the record’ in a special documentary titled “Dishonorable Disclosures.” Its goal is to educate America about serious breaches of security and prevent them from ever happening again.
“Use of military ranks, titles & photographs in uniform does not imply endorsement of the Dept of the Army or the Department of Defense. All individuals are no longer in active service with any federal agency or military service.”
In short, a very informative 22 minutes about the abuse of military intelligence by the White House.

[Ryan]‘s the cutest package that cruelty ever came in. He has a winning air of sad cheerfulness. He’s affable, clean-cut and really cut, with the Irish altar-boy widow’s peak and droopy, winsome blue eyes and unashamed sentimentality. Who better to rain misery upon the heads of millions of Americans?
Ezra Klein’s warning is even more stark. He sees a dark fairytale represented in Ryan. The Republican vice presidential candidate is Dr. Obama’s monster, jolted into life by the currents from the Lightbringer himself. “Here’s the weird thing about Paul Ryan being named to the Republican presidential ticket: It’s all part of Barack Obama’s campaign plan — a plan that’s working better than his strategists could have hoped. It could also backfire more disastrously than they have ever imagined.” Like another Doctor, whose German sounding last name starts with an “F”, there were apparently unforseen consequences in bringing this creature into existence.

“America’s first black governor in modern times has become the most senior Democrat to break ranks over Joe Biden’s ‘y’all in chains’ comments, telling the Vice President: ‘Slavery is nothing to joke about.’
Douglas Wilder, who was governor of Virginia from 1990 to 1994 and the first black governor since Reconstruction, told CNN that ‘without question’ Biden’s remarks in Danville, Virginia (though the veep seemed to think he was in North Carolina) ‘were appeals to race’.
He continued: ‘The important thing I got out of this was Biden separated himself from what he accused the people of doing. As a matter of fact, what he said is they are going to do something to y’all, not to me. Not us. So he was still involved with that separate American.
‘As far as I am concerned, the President would not associate himself with those remarks. And I expect as the days go forward there will be more clarity associated with what the president feels about what Joe Biden said.”

“Finland prepares for break-up of eurozone”
“Finland is preparing for the break-up of the eurozone, the country’s foreign minister warned today.”
“Erkki Tuomioja, Finland’s foreign minister: “We have to face openly the possibility of a euro-break up”.”
” The Nordic state is battening down the hatches for a full-blown currency crisis as tensions in the eurozone mount and has said it will not tolerate further bail-out creep or fiscal union by stealth.
“We have to face openly the possibility of a euro-break up,” said Erkki Tuomioja, the country’s veteran foreign minister and a member of the Social Democratic Party, one of six that make up the country’s coalition government.
“It is not something that anybody — even the True Finns [eurosceptic party] — are advocating in Finland, let alone the government. But we have to be prepared,” he told The Daily Telegraph.
“Our officials, like everybody else and like every general staff, have some sort of operational plan for any eventuality.”
Mr Tuomioja’s intervention is the bluntest warning to date by a senior eurozone minister. As he discussed the crisis, the minister had a copy of the Economist on his desk. It had a picture of Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, reading a fictitious report entitled “How to break up the euro”, with a caption: “Tempted, Angela?””

“South Africa witnessed bloodshed reminiscent of the apartheid era on Thursday when police killed as many as 18 miners after opening fire on a crowd of strikers.”
“Miners demonstrate at a mountain close to the mine near Rustenburg where they are demanding that their wages are more than tripled”
“Helicopters flew overhead and rows of police responded with full force after about 3,000 miners, massed on a rocky outcrop, ignored an ultimatum to lay down their machetes and clubs.
First, the police tried to disperse the crowd with water cannon, before firing volleys of stun grenades and tear gas. But scores of miners appear to have charged out of the bush towards a line of officers.
Images shown on ETV, a private television channel, showed the police immediately opening fire with rifles and handguns. Some, who appear to have switched their weapons to automatic, fired sustained bursts of gunfire.
The shooting went on until senior officers shouted “ceasefire”. Bodies lay around in the dust. Ambulances arrived to pick up the injured. Last night, police and health workers were still searching through the scrub for the dead and wounded.”
