  1. Here in Winnipeg, you need permits to renovate your kitchen or bathroom, finish your basement, build a deck, or even to put a garden shed in your backyard. People are getting around the shed bylaw by using metal shipping containers, as the bylaw specifies “permanent structures” only..
And there’s no end in sight as the municipal bureaucracy rules eternally. On the upside, there still is some sanity in the rural countryside. My mechanic (on a rural property about an hour away from the city) was being continually harassed by some municipal employee over permits for his new garage. I guess he started losing it, because one day the municipal truck drove onto the yard and he walked outside with a shotgun. The truck turned around and never came back and it’s been years now.

  2. “The country’s most populous state is strangling itself in red tape. And if you need to hire a lobbyist to negotiate the permit process for building a home, ask yourself what starting a business or building a factory will involve.”
Starting/building a business/factory is NOT a problem in Californicated. They just head for canuckistan,or more likely,China.
Some times I wonder if cali is screwing itself because of stupid leftard ideas,or are they just trying to so completely destroy their state so that even the Mexicans won’t want it?

  3. One of the main problems is that the people that make these bureaucratic decisions have never worked a day in their life. They have no idea how their decisions impact everyday life and even worse they all want to leave a legacy they can proudly call their own. Empire building.

  4. Most of the people that make these stupid regulations have never worked a day in their life. Even worse is they all want to leave a legacy they can proudly call their own. When all the logical rules have been made it always moves into the idiot zone with some proud bureaucrat claiming it as their own.

  5. “Those who produce goods and services should not have to get permission from those who do not.” — Ayn Rand
Why don’t they just rename California “Greece West” and be done with it?
