Oh, Frack!

“… please feel free to add your own comments.”
A Council Of Canadians Petition is about to go horribly wrong….
UPDATE: What have they to fear but SDA itself? The page can no longer be edited! Here’s where you can ask Maude Barlow why she’s afraid to forward the opinions of real Canadians.

  1. My Two Cents:
    Dear Minister Kent,
Natural gas from shale represents a wonderful opportunity for North America to maintain it’s economic success to date. It can provide cheap energy for the next 100 years at a minimum, and allow us to remain competitive, with much higher wages than our competitors because of our advantage in energy costs.

  2. Take a look at the CofC board, mostly teachers, and these people “educate” our children and they admit no tax receipt is sent due to their activist status.
To the Hon. Peter Kent, Minister of the Environment,
Just a note of congratulations on your action in refusing to commit Canada to the scam of AGW and the Kyoto Accord. The courage of you personally and the Conservative Party of Canada is to be commended.
This petition on fracking by the Council of Canadians should be just ignored and trivialized as it is the bleating of social activists who if you examine their board is made up of people that are almost to a person all public employees. These people never made a payroll, paid income taxes as their entire wage is a public expense or started a business with all its challenges but are content to take the money generated by the private sector. Yet they make every effort to shut down economic engines like the oil sands while flying, driving and heating their homes with its products.
Canada has some of the world’s best pollution and environmental rules that are continuing to make our country the most wonderful place to live and work. These activists along with those foreign funded traitors, in my view, like Suzuki are determined not to continue with our environmental process but to shut down and destroy our economic future.
Thank you for your efforts on Canada’s behalf.

  3. I doubt Mr. Kent will read what appears to be the same form letter spam. They will add to the total of genuine tard emails. Good idea?

  4. Blackbird is right, These opposing submissions will be taken for petition letters. They won’t be read by anyone, This type of pol is not the kind that can be made to go horribly wrong.
I suggest sent a completely separate communication to Mr. Kent telling his to frack away.

  5. “Iberia’s comments and opinions are about as effective as a:
    – limp one at the Mustang Ranch
    – screen door on a submarine
    – fart in a wetsuit
    – pay toilet in diarrhea ward
    – binoculars to a blind man
Sorry Iberia . . . but you do deserve it.

  6. I was not able to edit the form email on the CofC website. If it could be edited before, it’s not now. Or was it ever editable?

  7. Yeah, I could not make the form editable, nor was there a place for personal comments, even when I permitted Javascript for the odious site.
So here is my .02 worth, sent directly to the Minister: Dear Minister Kent’
First allow me to congratulate you for withdrawing Canada from the Kyoto Accord. An unworkable solution to a non-existent problem; such things are beloved of socialists.
The soi-disant “Council of Canadians” (curiously, they left out the term “Communist”, which would make their title accurate) has initiated an e-mail campaign to you in opposition to hydraulic fracturing for the production of gas. Ignorant they are, of the fact that it is also used to enhance oil production in reservoirs other than shale. Most of their talking points appear to be lifted from the faux documentary film “Gasland”, which has been thoroughly debunked.
They go on to say that France has banned the fracing process, and that Quebec has imposed a moratorium. Of course, France gets most of its grid energy from clean nuclear power, about 85%, if I remember right, and can well afford it. And Quebec gets most of its “energy” from transfer payments, heh.
As the “Councils” canned e-mail points out, the Federal government has several legislative remedies in its arsenal, which can be used should a particular fracing project go wrong and cause environmental damage. I’m certain most provinces do as well. There is simply no need for a blanket ban or moratorium. Such thinking smacks of the “Precautionary Principle”, which is logically flawed, and if taken to extreme, would demand that we never get out of bed in the morning, lest we meet with some unforeseen risk.
Let me suggest another course of action: follow the money trail. Who funds all these numerous and overlapping pressure groups? The looney Left left loves to create new organizations at the drop of a hat, and these orgs usually share directors, funding and premises with pre-existing groups. It’s simply an Astro-Turfing tactic to make it appear that their campaigns are much more broadly-based than is really the case. In the current anti-frac, anti-oilsands movement, many of the players are being funded by the Tides Foundation of the USA, a George Soros front group. I would not be surprised to find Saudi money backing the campaigns of the green wienies, either.
Canada needs some new laws, with teeth in them, to force all political pressure groups to fully disclose their funding sources, all the way up the chain. Furthermore, groups which receive more than 5% of their donations from foreign sources should be required to register as foreign agents. And foreign-financed activist groups should be banned outright from participating in any way in Canadian elections for any level of government. It’s well-known that the Tides Foundation helped to purchase the election of current Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson.
While I’m at it: privatize or public-ize the CBC. In other words, defund it. Let it choose to support itself solely by advertising revenue, or solely by subscriber donations, or by a mix of the two. The CKUA radio network could serve as a model. As a state-funded broadcaster, the CBC has become a shrill voice for the left. It needs to either become truly balanced, or be formally identified as Voice of the NDP, or silenced altogether.
    Sincerely,

  8. “EPA Lisa Jackson Not Aware of Any Proven Case of Water Contamination From Hydraulic Fracturing.”
    Yeti
The EPA Expert at the Senate hearing was pathetic… He was a beard (a PhD for the F***ing Lawyers) looking for something negative to grasp from the testimony of the Fracking Experts.. He had absolutely nothing to add to the Science. This is a time to be silent and let the worthless turds chase up all the blind alleys..

  9. Hey.
If I read the comments correctly, Kate put this up at 12.47 am, and the CoC didn’t protect their web form until 11.42 am. It took them just under 11 hours to spot us.
    Got ’em.

  10. i wonder if they realise their salaries come from o&g royalties and thus fracking. Guess not !

  11. Well, it was editable last night, but not anymore. I had submitted an edited version last night, similar to those above, “keep fracking” etc. but had changed the subject line so it might not just get counted with all the other C of C letters.
Hopefully a few do get opened up by someone and passed around for a laugh. that’s all it would take!
    Cheers,

  12. So this “Council of Canadians”, is it funded by Canadians? Or is it just another foreign front group aimed at destroying Canada?

  13. http://canadians.org/publications/CP/2011/summer/annual-report-2010.pdf
Bear – they don’t specifically list any government grants on their statement of revenue, however who can tell when they don’t have a balance sheet, notes or statement of cash flows. It’s my understanding that an organization of this size must be audited, and auditors don’t allow financial statements in whole or in part to be distributed without their communication page. Maude has some ‘splainin’ to do I think.

  14. Grab your own copy of the page, and change the readonly flag.
To the Hon. Peter Kent, Minister of the Environment,
Load the edited page in a browser, edit to your black little heart’s content.
Then post to the same URL.

  15. Oops: Changing angles to parens…
    (td colspan=”2″)(textarea name=”letter” cols=”80″ rows=”26″ readonly=”readonly”)
To the Hon. Peter Kent, Minister of the Environment,

  16. I was not able to edit the form email on the CofC website. If it could be edited before, it’s not now. Or was it ever editable?
Posted by: Volpone at January 3, 2012 11:34 AM
Yes it was an editable form when I sent it off to Peter Kent. (Posted by: Patsplace at January 3, 2012 1:56 AM)
They’ve changed it so that they now dictate the message. How very “Gulagish” of them.
    Pat

  17. Poor old Maude,
A legend in her own mind, she can’t even run a web poll without having her fat ass handed to her on Kate’s platter.
It was fun while it lasted.
Just another wannbe marxist running a Green Grift to scare money out of Canadians.
Maude brings new meaning to the being dumb, ignorant, spiteful and pathetic.

  18. If they are a left wing organization, they’re getting money from the taxpayer! Some way, Somehow.
    Bet on it.

  19. Unless I’m missing something, it’s still editable. I just went there, edited it and sent it off.
To the Hon. Peter Kent, Minister of the Environment,
Just another short note to encourage you to examine the funding of so many of the opposition groups that oppose fracking, pipelines, oil sands, seal hunting and a variety of other Canadian activities.
    Sincerely,
    Pat Patrick

  20. Tried to find out EXACTLY who they get their funding from. NO financials published showing donor’s name. Isn’t that illegal for a “non-profit” org???? Where’s their audit report???
That commie scum barlow’s got some explaining to do!

  21. I just called my CofC ‘regional contact’ in Vancouver. Talked to a nice young Lady for about 15 minuets. We discussed the oil sands operation, reclamation, pipeline safety, Carbon dioxide, the feasibility of wind/solar, how she heats her residence.
She politely mentioned some of the standard climate-alarmism points of view but she offered nothing new, nothing different and nothing of significance as to why the CofC opposes Canada’s fossil fuel industry, especially the oil sands.
Her clueless position is probably not her fault as our education system does not teach critical-thinking – in fact they discourage it. After a couple of decades of Suzuki instilled doctrine and you end up with exactly what I was talking to just now.
As per the last ten years – whenever the alarmists are confronted, they bring nothing of significance to the discussion. Virtually without exception, they just fold.
Climate Alarmism is simply just another type of religion to ‘believe’ in – and they want us all to pay for their church!
I encourage others to call the CofC as per Kate’s posting.

  22. Couldn’t modify the body of the letter — oh, well. I noticed the sidebars mention “climate justice”. Any time I see “justice” mentioned by a left-winger I just think “Gulag”.

  23. nv53…”with themselves in some sort of position of influence.”
    EXACTLY!
Activists surrounding themselves with an all-encompassing agenda are always jetting off somewhere, on someone else’s dime.
Barlowe loathes resource extraction while using oil, minerals and wood pulp. Is she a flake? You be the judge.
    Here she is:
“If you look at Patagonia, if you look at the, you know, interior of India, it doesn’t matter where you go, there isn’t anywhere safe from the mining companies, the pulp and paper companies, the energy companies. There isn’t a place on earth they don’t want to go to destroy it. And this place that we’re here at this U.N. summit is the place to say no more of that. We have to protect Mother Nature. You know, we have to protect Mother Earth. And we want to promote the Cochabamba Accord, which came out of the April meeting in Cochabamba, Bolivia, which is a totally different world vision than the Copenhagen Accord that sidetracked the U.N. process last year in Copenhagen. I don’t think there will be a mention of it here. We are promoting and supporting a Universal Declaration on the Rights of Mother Earth, which we want one day to be a companion piece to the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. And we want it to be considered a form of human rights, that we cannot have our own human rights if the earth is dying. So we really have to have what Vandana Shiva calls a notion of earth democracy. All of that is in our language. It’s in the language of many of the countries from the Global South, and their negotiators are as clear as we are on it. It’s the countries, those mostly Anglo countries — you know, Canada, U.S., Australia, New Zealand, you know, and joined in this case, unhappily so, by Japan — leading a charge against protecting the earth. But I have faith that even if it doesn’t come out right here, the movement builds, and that’s what we’re doing here.”

  24. To the Hon. Peter Kent, Minister of the Environment
There is only one legitimate COUNCIL of CANADIANS and that is the Canadian electorate who recently gave you a strong mandate to keep the economy strong while at the same time protecting the environment from real rather than supposed or imaginary threats.Carry on.

  25. Maude Barlow’s Council of Communists is opposed to “neo-liberalism” i.e capitalism and supports such worthy efforts as G20 riots, boats to Gaza and the Occu-idiot movement.
It it any surprise these socialist nitwits don’t want anyone to change their letter? The mental defectives who think Barlow and her organization are great social justice advocates probably have enough trouble figuring out how to hit the send button.

  26. Thanks to one of the commenters up top, I checked my email and voila! I was cc’d the email after all.
Here is the money line from my email:
“I fart at the Council of Canadians and oppose a ban on fracking. I urge you to make the responsible choice and at the very least place the opponents of fracking in jail while your government conducts reviews on their ability to continue to move freely in public.
    Sincerely,” etc, etc.
I tried to use as many of the words already in the “petition” as I could, just for laughs.

  27. “Flake ? You are being too kind.
Posted by: peterj at January 3, 2012 4:13 PM”
    LOL. No doubt about that!

  28. “So this “Council of Canadians”, is it funded by Canadians? Or is it just another foreign front group aimed at destroying Canada?”
Aha! That is the question isn’t it? So many lies to expose, so few Ezra Levants.

  29. Correct me if I’m wrong but the water used is already brackish (and therefore unusable) water in in the first place, correct?
    What’s the problem?
    Oh yeah…

  30. Darn, late to the party again.
However, the letter can be copied and then edited quite easily.
I added on a litle rant about how there are only so many fossils in the world and if we use them all for fuel, there won’t be any for the children to study. Signed off as Science advisor for the council of Canadians.

  31. sent mine in directly to Mr. Kent ,
titled it “I support fracking” even though it irks me to spell Frac’ing that way , Hydraulic Fracturing is really correct.
and yes Iberia , got a return email , thanks for asking.

  32. That photo of the tap water on fire on the C of C website is hilarious. It looks like something the South Park boys would purposely put together in an effort to make things really look over the top….and it does!

  33. nold-
    Agree wholeheartedly
A year or two ago Barlow had a case of the vapours
because she found out the City of Detroit’s water system had an intake pipe that was some 12 meters
over the international border that travels through Lake Huron. She accused them of stealing Canadian water!!!
That’s the mind-set we are dealing with here folks.

  34. TSE: TCW fracing company
Trican well services donates 5 million to alberta childrens hospital for child cancer research just last week.

  35. A couple from the town in which I live left for a couple of years, to do volunteer work in Bolivia. They returned to B.C., spitting out that “Bolivia is a hell-hole.!” That “hell-hole” is fronting a movement to save Mother Earth?
“The proposals developed by the Plurinational State of Bolivia bring together and build upon the progress made in the World Charter for Nature (1982), the Rio Declaration (1992), the Earth Charter (2000), and the World People’s Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth (2010):
    I. A DEEPER COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE 21ST CENTURY
    1. In this century, the central challenges of sustainable development are: on the one hand, to overcome poverty and the tremendous inequalities that exist and, on the other hand, reestablish the equilibrium of the Earth system. Both objectives are intrinsically linked and one cannot be reached independently of the other.”
    http://pwccc.wordpress.com/
There must be something in the water that Maude Barlowe drinks.

  36. I have been viewing their website and a couple things strike me.
How can Maude be the chairman and founder of groups in both the States and Canada? Isn’t that a bit contradictory to the mission statement of the CoC?
They started as a pro-sovereign group which is against free trade and the WTO, and then now seem to have shifted completely to environmentalism. Proof positive that the AGW/climate change scam is nothing more than a socialist/communist agenda.

  37. I support the fraking of commie ignoramuses.
Find an orifice … insert a tube and pump till they produce a satisfactory amount of gas.

  38. I looked at The Council of Canadians board and it’s mostly public service union hacks, school teachers, self described activists, a professor, a first nations activist and Mad Maude.
As far as funding goes…I tried to download their annual report but something is goofed in my Adobe.
