  1. I remember when – back in the late ’70s – an interviewer was castigated by MBLA for not being sufficiently sympathetic to their claims of ‘normalicy’. The fact that the interviewer had young sons was considered irrelevant. If memory serves, the woman interviewer was formally admonished for lack of objectivity/sensitivity by some ‘official’ body.

  15. I, for one, agree wholly that the pedophilia is likely genetic in nature and there is nothing we can do to change that. I agree that stigmatizing someone for their thoughts and desires is wrong. The issue is not where the thoughts or attraction come from but rather the actions taken. I no more think sex with children is OK because one is genetically programmed that way than I think murder is OK for a sociopath because he, too, is genetically programmed that way. I say let the pedophiles be right up to the point where their actions harm another human being. Then we send them to jail and, just like the sociopath, if they cannot be treated in such a way as to not re-offend, then they should stay in jail to protect children.

    Sexuality can be taught to the very young…
    It’s later, after the hormones kick in, that they discover their TRUE sexual identity,
    and it’s likely different than what that friendly adult and his/her sexual games led him/her to believe.
    Resulting in angry, dis-funtional, resentfull, confused and troubled youth.
    Pedophiles count on their victims being young and sexually ignorant.
    Say NO to pedophilia, call them the perverts they are, get in their faces, NEVER relent.

  21. It doesn’t matter what goes on in your mind, what matters are the choices you make and the actions you take. If you take an action that harms a child then you should be removed from society. I would prefere a cheap, permanent solution but a true life sentence would be acceptable. Just like a rabid dog, it might not be his fault that he got rabies but he has to be put down all the same.

  26. Here’s a head-scratcher of a logic problem: How would they deal with one who was born with a proclivity to beat up pedophiles? Would that be viewed with the same tolerance and understanding?
    Clearly they have no concern for the child whose life is destroyed.
    Funny how they say that humans have ‘evolved’ beyond a need for hunting, and that we should suppress it just as we suppress our other base instincts like rape and murder.

    Now, any hetero (and honest) man who’s read Nabokov’s Lolita will agree that there’s something very attractive about girls in their early teens. (Why do so many male fantasies – as depicted in countless Hollywood movies – revolve around girls’ high school locker rooms, for example?) And let’s not forget that for thousands of years, girls were routinely married at the age of 14 or 15; Marie Antoinette comes to mind.
    But today, as you grow up, you realize that your time to be involved with those girls was when you were in your early teens. By the time you reach your twenties, it’s no longer a fair contest. If you’re a reasonably good looking guy, with some money, a car, and experience, it’s all too easy to turn a young girl’s head. (see, for example, the Phoebe Cates’ character in Fast Times At Ridgemont High.) That’s why the police get suspicious of older men who hang around high schools.
    But these people are not talking about 15 and 16 year olds; they are talking about sex with 6 and 7 years (or even younger). How anyone can project sexual fantasies on a child is beyond me. I have two daughters, and occasionally gave them baths while they were young (which, to be honest, were more about them playing with bubble bath and sliding around the tub while I watched to make sure they didn’t drown). While I thought they were cute and wonderful, I never felt the slightest stirring, unlike watching my wife, who only had to start unbuttoning her shirt to get me at full arousal. (I have to note here that I saw a bit on TV the other day about a French lingerie maker which has started a line for children under 12, and has an extensive advertising campaign underway. They posted a few pictures of young girls with these bras and panties on, and I didn’t feel anything but sick.)
    The notion that a child under 10 (or 12 or 14) can give “consent” is ridiculous, because it’s not informed consent. As well-informed as some children may be at that age, they can’t really understand the consequences of, say, becoming pregnant or contracting an STD while so young. Since pedophiles are clearly interested in sex, and not love, how will these children feel when they are abandoned by their “lover” at age 12 for someone younger? How can anyone think that a child of 10 could predict that emotional trauma, and how they’d be able to handle it?
    Most societal taboos are put in place for a reason; after many years of doing things one way, people realize it causes problems, so they prohibit it. Look at the Jewish/Muslim ban on eating pork. Trichinosis was a real and deadly problem before the advent of refrigeration, so they just decided not to eat it. Almost every culture puts bans on incest. We didn’t discover the reason for it (genetics) until recently, but there was enough empirical evidence in idiot or deformed babies in ancient times for it to be banned.
    Today, we’ve solved the refrigeration problem, but we haven’t solved the problem of human nature. Kids today are exposed to more information sooner and faster than any generation before, but that doesn’t mean they are able to appreciate and handle the consequences of sexual relationships at age 10. We don’t let kids drink or smoke until they’re 18 or 21 because we understand they’re not capable of making an informed decision; how can these perverts, who are truly seeking their own sexual pleasure at the expense of children, contend they can do so in matters of sex?

  43. While some adults may consider sexual attraction to children as part of their normal make-up, children do not reciprocate. Children do not have sexual feelings. They have curiosity about the opposite sex but that does not equate to any desire to commit sex acts.
    Children are also not on a level playing field with adults either intellectually or in social standing. Adults are power figures in the lives of kids.
    Children therefore can never give consent to sexual acts with adults. Any such acts are child abuse. End of story.

  49. What IS known is that Gays and Lesbians report that they were molested as children at a rate 8-9 times greater than straight boys and girls.
    It doesn’t explain the origin of all Gays’ and Lesbians’ sexuality, but certainly a great deal of it.
    I suspect that the effort to programme children at a pre-sexualized age on the issue of departing from a reproductively normative world view is an attempt to reproduce that molestation effect without the physical violence.
    The notion that they “just want to be left alone” is a specious deflection of the extent to which proponents of sexual politics in academia and government are trying to practice behaviour modification.
