  1. Ah, yes, indoctrinate children who do not belong to you to teach them to become the very victims their parents now have become. And pay for the privilege. The chants in the capitol building in Wisconsin today shows how well they take their responsibility to ‘teach’ the children.
If a parent to one of those children chanting I would be so tempted to ‘teach’ those ‘teachers’ a thing or two about fists in the face!

  2. We don’t see much of this in Canada because, well, they won long ago. It’s hard to see the forest through the trees.

  3. “economic justice in the workplace”
So does this mean that they will happily accept wage and benefit rollbacks to what the average wages and benefits for a US worker are?
Oops, I forgot, they’re all about pushing for always more and higher because that way the average worker will get that too.

  4. It was fascinating to watch these well dressed, well educated and seemingly well feed people talking about their ‘struggle’. They also alluded to the gap that is extending between the haves and the have-nots, okay which were these again.
Not to diminish what teachers do but the mental picture of the 19th century coal miner and this don’t jive.
Another thing, when talk of collective bargaining of a government union comes up. Who is supposedly on the other side of the table? In this province it has typically been the party they voted in. Doesn’t sound very antagonistic to me. Who represents the tax payer?
I would concede that unions have their place, but not when the people they are supposedly bargaining against are leading the fray.

  5. The mentality of these union people,,,,,socialist one and all….the same type of morons that loved Russian socialist…this is an example of educated people…robots to the union creed…they have never had a real thought in their life….

  6. This meeting dripped with self satisfying smugness. At least the rep for the AFL-CIO put his cards on the table. Transforming America into a social democratic nanny state. What I liked most was the condescending attitude everyone displayed with pride against anyone opposing their agenda.
They were feeding off each other’s vibes.
    Kinda reminds me of sharks.

  7. Ill-bred children already know how to put their hands out and scream: “MORE!” The trick is getting them to NOT do this.
The unions, ect are counter-productive, is my point.
But being counter-productive is THEIR purpose.

  8. “We don’t see much of this in Canada because, well, they won long ago. It’s hard to see the forest through the trees.”
Once this spreads throughout the US it will come to Canada. Labor unions are worried-for good reason.

  9. This is like Soviet style brainwashing that some of us have some familiarity with.
Next they will be suggesting that the students inform on the political attitudes of their parents.
Derek, nice little site Tammy has there.

  10. The only effective unions in the Western world are government employment unions. None other exist. The state is a socialist enterprize, so this is no surprize. However, the unions, and their cohorts of government employees, are not elected to make government policy; in fact, they are not elected at all; THEY ARE EMPLOYED by the elected government.
They want to substitute civil rule by mob rule … see Wisconsin. Or, our own example in Ontario, with the government unions facing down the Harris government. I hope Haddock has more courage. Wisconsin showed they way.
BTW In what other part of the world are there unions whatsoever?

  11. Today there was some discussion in the media about initiatives to curb bullying in US schools.
The synopsis of the proposals reads like the very “policies” we see in every one of our own public schools here in Canada …
Of course they steal the ideas from the feminist handbook of political correctness and they don’t for a minute consider asking if anyone has already done this has achieved anything at all.
One sure result will be to absolve the teachers of accountability.

  12. “BTW In what other part of the world are there unions whatsoever?”
Pretty much everywhere. Even some African nations have trade unions.
I went and looked up some stats, and was surprised to find that unions are more popular in the US than they are in France:
    http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/lab_tra_uni_mem-labor-trade-union-membership
Still, both nations come near the bottom. Some of the most prosperous nations in the world are at the top of that list. Not sure if there’s any causative link, but there’s definitely a correlation

  13. Couldn’t help but notice the comment at the 5:00 mark where she mentions that the TEA party movement is wealthier than those present in the room. Truly a …Whiskey…Tango…Foxtrot!!! moment. These are the educated ‘intellectuals’ that we have put in charge of educating our children. Time to bend over and K-Y-A goodbye.

  14. It took 3 generations but it never worked in the Soviet Union & it ain’t gonna work here.
Every generation thinks their cause is the greatest. Than comes along another generation that does the opposite.
These are just money sniffing crooks hiding behind education to enrich themselves.
Using Unions for power. For control of individuals.
Most kids know BS when they see it.
Particularly when they see how this Equality only works for their “betters”.
    JMO

  15. It’s sure obvious why home schooling is getting so popular in the US. If I had to listen to these clowns in a classroom I would slash my wrists.

  16. The meeting of the useful idiots. Yes, we must start the brain washing much earlier.
What is incredible is that these fools don’t seem to have notice that their version of social justice, not only in the work place, but in society as well has already been achieved in the former USSR and Cuba and …. China. All are the culmination of the ‘workers paradise’.
Those rabid unionists should be taken out back, put up against the wall and well …. Our very freedoms and way of life are at stake. They are as big a threat as the Islamic scum who want the same things but with an oppressive religion to help keep things … loving and gentle.

  17. Madison is apparently Wisconsin’s version of downtown Trawna where the lefties in gubmint and
the potheads at U of W do their thing. Not really a popular place with those across the rest of the
state who must do the real and honest work to pay the freight.

  18. Hey Kate,
Are the Catholic schools in Saskatoon like the public schools?
We moved here from Manitoba three years ago so I don’t know the difference.
Are Catholic schools just public schools with a religious bent or do they offer a more traditional approach to reading, writing and arithmetic?
I’m curious to know if I have better options available.

  19. Interesting,
Around 1967, in an outdoor restaurant, in a socialist country run by communists.
Had a beer, in an outdoor restaurant. An older gentleman sat at the next table and struck a conversation.
    He was a retired teacher.
Complained about how the communists confiscated the teachers’ pension from before @1948, and merged it into the state pension.
Forgot the mention that, it was the communists that they wanted.
No if, no but, no nothing, that was the DIKTAT.
Got to think about it now, with all the goings on and thought of the saying “be careful what you wish for, you might get it”. In the contemporary case, they may get much more of what they really don’t want.

  20. dance…dance to the radio: All teachers in Saskatchewan are under the same collective agreement, but, the Catholic schools tend to run a somewhat more traditional house. Generally speaking, you’ll find very little in the way of activism in Sask., like you may elsewhere. In my experience, the Catholic schools are more consistent with discipline. The public schools are more hit and miss but some outstanding schools exist in both systems, and most are very decent. I’ve worked extensively in both systems.
There is also the Federal First Nations school system which I’m very familiar with as well. Avoid it.

  21. California has an easier solution coming up in a couple years – stop paying pensions. That is all.

  22. @4:58 in the video: “Tea Party .. are not you and I, they’re wealthier, they have more money to spare.”
Let’s remove the obfuscation and focus on relevance: Who has worked the hardest and managed with the least government handouts?

  23. In my opinion conservatives talk a good line but very few actually participate in challenging the left in Canada anyway. We put our children in an education system that is totally contrary to our beliefs and then whine about the result. Anyone attended a PAC meeting lately. Never a dissenting opinion made or question about cirriculum.
An organized effort to confront this situation requires a political committment from the conservative party. The NDP and Liberals certainly do not have any problem in promoting their philosophy at this level. My fear with the CPC is they want my vote simply because they consider themselves smarter than the other guys. That isn’t good enough in my books.

  24. A video version of the Communist Manifesto. It is pretty clear that McCarthy didn’t get the job done.
But with the release of information like this, the veil is being pulled back on these clowns and exposing them for the lunatics that they really are.

  25. Now that is an interesting premise… McCarthyism was an abject failure… it didn’t get them all.

  26. I take it the curriculum will be so richly developed with the labor union viewpoint that there simply won’t be a time or a place for any alternative viewpoint.
    I demand equal time!

  27. Fred @ 7:21 p.m.: Is teaching kids how to be a Union Thug compatible with teaching Social Justice?
It’s a small part of “social justice”, which is a broad anti-concept that essentially means robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Advocates of “social justice” are enemies of the real notion of justice.

  28. Two questions answered:
    1. Unions and not the merchants of the Renaissance invented the middle class. Really?
2.. The AFL-CIO, SEIU. AFSCME, NEA and AFT are the “have-nots” Really?
Glad the video cleared up my misunderestimating
