Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Ah, the USA is being looted and the middle class faces destruction of their assets and businesses. Something for the crony capitalists and the communists to cooperate on and succeed at together.
Well, that’s my injection of depression for the day.
But Glen Beck is the crazy one!!
Is there risk in QE2? Yes. We don’t live in a riskless society, despite progressive attempts to nanny care us and even control the weather.
What risk is the Fed trying to prevent? Deflation like Japan has suffered since 1989.
What would be a better solution? Sane fiscal policy. The real problem is out of control government spending and government union monopolies unfairly competing with the private sector thus killing real economy job creation.
Why not try that? It will start to happen as the new Congress takes over from the iron fisted Obamarx gang controlling Congress since 2006, the Senate and the WH since 2008.
Over the last few years Bernanke is the only guy trying to keep America afloat against a progressive extremist Obamarx gang that has been leaving all the heavy lifting to Bernanke under monetary policy instead of addressing fiscal policy. If you are even able to understand monetary policy (frankly it would take more than YouTube to help me understand it) you can certainly criticize what has been done so far by monetary policy to avoid a Japan-like economic disaster. But at least Bernanke has America’s best interests at heart; which is more than can be said about the Obamarx gang in its race to equalize America with Indonesia.
Clearly, sooner of later you have to bite the bullet. Clearly, the politicians prefer that this be done by high inflation – which is the “tax” that will eventually pay for this mess, and a frantic game of musical chairs is now in progress to see who is sitting in the hot seat when it all hits the fan. It is simply not in the DNA of any politician – liberal or conservative to insist his constituents face necessary sacrifice. Churchill did it, but that was a fluke – a coming – together of improbable historical events. There are appears to be none of his caliber on the horizon, at least in the old mold. Sarah Palin remains an improbable possibility but Oh! the Irony! Leave it Mom to clean up the mess after the kiddies’ play time.
All good things come to end, folks.
I can’t hear “the Ben Bernank” enough.
Nomdeblog, where do you see the deflation that “the Ben Bernank” is trying to prevent?
Am I the only viewer who found these two more human than Lang and O’Leary?
Along the same lines as “Nobody has to be a doctor…”, if my choices as a bank owner were to 1.) Not make money on Treasury Bonds, or 2.) Lose money lending to risky business owners who are not worth the risk, I would 3.) Close up shop until the world became sane for bankers once again.
SDH,
Housing, which is a huge part of the US economy and a source of jobs that ain’t happening, is still in a tailspin.
Kates thread caption nails it.
cottus has it right. Countries’ economies are no different than a family’s. Eventually the overspending has to come to an end and the debt paid. Hopefully we do not have to go through what our grandparents did, but somehow I expect that hope will be in vain.
The real problem is trade.
The US cannot export freely to China, and many other Asian countries.
At one time, the US economy was so big compared to other nations that offshoring and closed markets did not matter. This is no longer true.
The US needs to be given the same access to other countries as these countries are given to the US.
Deflation is not a good thing because ultimately you are destroying your standard of living. Salaries and everything must drop in order to keep producing things of value. It turns into a viscous circle and can spiral out of control downward.
I think that Bernanke is doing the right thing. Obama has been trying to get the Chinese to stop controlling their currency but to no avail.
Obama’s visit to India and Indonesia were pretty successful. India, not China, is the future. Indonesia has the fourth largest population in the world (the US is third) and these countries need to be partners with the US in order for the US to grow.
> What risk is the Fed trying to prevent?
> Deflation like Japan has suffered since 1989.
Well, the deflation we’ve had in the price of computers and home electronics has been a boon to consumers, and also to manufacturers, who, I note, are still making money thanks to economies of scale.
More of this would be helpful.
I note, at the same time Bernanke started printing money, the prices at the local Wal-mart grocery section shot up almost 15% across the board. The Loblaws/No Frills store across the street didn’t raise its prices in the same time frame. Think Wal-mart — headquartered in the U.S. — is trying to make up for the dollar suddenly being worth 15% less?
@cconn:
> India, not China, is the future.
Are you saying that from experience or just following MSM? I work with the Indian teams to whom they outsourced IT.
This is never ending horror story.
Their mentality, work ethics and attitude are horrible. They are pathologically incapable of admitting fault. They don’t understand the simplest things. We have to repeat things 10 times and ask them to repeat just as many, because they don’t get an idea that they have an accent and have to say things slowly and clearly (see earlier about admitting fault). They are extremely skilled at denying responsibility and shifting blame. Their minds are extremely rigid and the most common answer is ‘NO’. They destroy things by negligence or malice and don’t feel any remorse.
I’am so sick of that country that your statements just made me cringe.

Ok. Wow. Thanks for that. Whenever I call a 1-800 number and get “Frank” on the other end, I often have to ask them to repeat something once, twice, three times (or more) to understand. I always felt kind of bad about that, but no more.
this is just a question but does this not also seem like america and other the conspiracy people and the jews are doing this to purposley weaken there dollar to destabilize the global economy and to fight the chinease corruption buy not re-evaluationg there currency?
Again this is an innocent question . But it is the only reasonable assumtion i can make i know nothing about money buisness or any of that …seems kinda like a cut your nose off to spite your face kinda tactic!
Anyway it is either that or ben bernanky is a F!king retard along with EVERY other single person involved in the western govornments.
I see now from having read the comment’s that economies are a huge balancing act you don’t want to much inflation or de-flation you kinda got to balance them with both hands while surfing on an ocean of natural unpredictability maket’s move up and down kinda thing and while they move up and down the countries invovlved must keep the glasses of water in each hand from spilling one being inflation the other deflation .
i beleive in a just and un-corrupt country this is relativley easy to do ,simply by looking at trend’s and history and making sound decisions ,
But latley since regan it seems to me something has gone a rye (lol) like someone is drunk at the wheel or something …how or why i am not sure why would any politician want to do this to there own country?
I truley don’t understand ..i mean i do understand in the sence that these people are or have been corrupted and taken kick back’s and that sort of thig like capitalism got completely to the greedy side but why ? most politicians live a wonderful life ,and are paid sickning amount’s of money to control my life why would they add corruption to there shopping cart as well ?
I see what is going on but i don’t understand why if someone could givem e some insight as to why the most F#king retarded people often end up running my life ,my town/city ,my province/state my country?
Are we as decadent and morally bankrupt as most western countries and scritpure say’s we will become ? Or is this just the tip of the iceburge?
I think it is funny how athiest’s also deny the valididty of scripture even as it unfolds before there eye’s
I truley don’t understand why there are no check’s and balances in govornment’s around the western world to prevent these thing’s from happening ,and if there are why aren’t they being implimented and if there are and they are not being implimented then hold to account the people responcible for implimenting them literaly if there is a law or amendment that states a certain rule and there is a person responsible for ensureing that that rule is enforced fire that person and tell the next one the same will hapen to them if they don’t enforce the rule ?
In a bible study we recently did the vicar asked us a question about why jesus suffered like why didn’t god just hit the easy button and say la vie all done everything is perfect.
We all had different examples but non the less the same answers ..i had an additional point after i will explain in a second
There would be no value in it ,it would not mean much to us ,the people in our govornment most of them come from privilaged and rich backrounds and i think that is a huge reason we are in the mess we are in those people have NEVER had a hard day in there lives they have not suffered they have missed a very important part of character building and that is failure, hurt, suffering, loss, and pain ,all wonderful and important building block’s of a person with sound character and judgment we have to know loss in order to truley apreciate and value gain
I get into argument’s with people at work becaseu they say “i want to give my kids the thing’s i never had” or “i want to give my kids the opportunities i never had” or something along those lines and i look at them and they livei n nice homes drive nice car’s they kee there grass perfect they take good care of there house probly good spouses to each other and to there kids .
What they are esencially doing is removing the building block that made them see they had suffered and instilled the idea of value for hard work from there kids they aren ot letting there kids suffer and expirience loss …and i measure this to be far more detrimantal to the development of there children then to make them buy there own car or pay for there own college or cell phones or what ever and have there car repoed or there cell phone cut off or any of that .
If when my daughter get’s older and she want’s a cell phone or a car i will help he to get it i.e. drive her to the place and help her with the legal working’s of a contract explain thing’s to her but in so far as money and financing i will laugh in her face if her car get’s repoed …not to be mean but to teach her that she messed up she did not follow the rules and now these are the conciquences and i will not save her or her car she can live and learn or live lose and learn or what ever but one thing i will not do is hinder her by not letting her sufferor expierience pain or loss or humility as we can see in all western govornemnet’s with the exception of a few politians here and there these people have NEVER had to suffer and by them not Having to suffer ever we wil all now continue to suffer .
I wish here in canada we could vote for an individual not a party i disagree with that.
As seen in america for the longest time that is what made it greatat one point pre 1915 since then it has been a slow motion train wreck with a few glimpses of recovoery ..humility seems to be lost on almost all politians and that for me is why i like sarah palin , and her ilk they are real people with humble beggining’s money is not my point here it is the parenting of these people who now run ur and my countries .
they need to be reprimanded and do some suffering bui nstead we do the statuse quo and just complain about articles we see on sda.
to bad so sad and yes one day i might just have to run in politics so can say i did as much as a i could ..the trouble with me is a i was a very bad youngster did all kinds of drug’s stole cars broke into homes and schools , i have a child out of wedlock my family is so disfunctional it is embarrassing …my dad slept with his dad’s ex wife that is just the tip of the iceburge to give you all a taste …lol
Sorry for the rant but i just had to because we need actions not words these day’s .
“…because they don’t get an idea that they have an accent and have to say things slowly and clearly…”
A trick to use sometimes is to ask for a bilingual person to help. That way you get somebody who speaks French and English. Their English is usually pretty good as they have been exposed to it their whole lives.
Life always makes more sense when explained by cartoon characters. I believed that until I was at least 10 and I probably never should have stopped believing it.
The language thing is a big barrier in all multi cult countries. I just watched Question Period from CPAC. Only about 4 questions from the opposition were asked in English and the translator garbled the responses. Until a few weeks ago CPAC was streamed via NWTel in French, in the Yukon!! I complained 5 times and they changed it after I gave them instructions on how to change it. It is listed on the TV guide in French only. I can read French but some people cannot, people who cannot read French would assume that CPAC is one of those French only channels and the French audio would confirm their suspension. Most of Canada is English speaking; why are most of the opposition questions presented in French?.
Things that make me go humm?
I’ve been to an outsourcing centre in India and found the people there spoke better English than most university grads here. Not only that, they were current on world events and could carry on an extremely interesting conversation on just about any topic.
The low level call centre people may speak with an accent that is difficult to understand. But the upper levels are different.
As for avoiding responsibility, I did not experience that in the people I dealt with. As problems arose, they addresses them always keeping us informed of the status of the project.
In short, the Indians I have dealt with were very professional.
The suggestion in here that deflation is actually a good thing ignores the fact that every single economy in the world is run on credit. In fact, virtually every store/business in the world is run on credit of some form or another. If deflation takes hold, it would be catastrophic.
In any case, US fiscal policy is the issue here not monetary policy. If the Congress and White House don’t have the political will to do what is necessary it won’t matter what the Fed does.
Seriously? Does the pig seriously want deflation? Deflation is good if you’ve already horded up massive wealth in a McDuck Money Bin but for anyone who made any purchases on credit (say….a home?) they’d be totally screwed. Lots of people out there are already maxed out on credit cards or just barely servicing their interest rates. You’ll see people defaulting all over the place if we had deflation. Just like how you can monetize your debt, it can also go the other way.
I guess that’s why the Bernank is the fed chairman and not Joe the Plumber….I saw him on TV running a cellphone scam speaking of which :\
As much as I love the pig and …uh cat [?] the writing is terrible and boring. HTC vs. Iphone was funnier 😀
The World is Being Run by Crooks not crazy people.
Monetary inflation is fraud. Theft. Theft of property from the late receivers of the new counterfeit cash (or non-receivers in the case of people on fixed incomes) and re-distrubtion to the early receivers starting with the government itself, the commercial banks and favoured groups most esp. the unions, private and public sector.
Suggestion: Why don’t we stop using the laughable, manipulative euphemism “quantitative easing” and call it by its proper name: government counterfeiting. I refuse to use the enemy’s linguistic agitprop. And let’s be very clear: the Fed and the cartelized commercial banks are the enemy who have caused unimaginable and totally unnecessary human suffering.
Me no dhimmi – yeah, cause the gold standard really worked awesome for all those people in the 30s who were stuck with worthless crops and land.
Inflation is theft? Do you own a home? Mortgage? Credit card? Have a bank account? Car loan? You realize that lowering the real price of debt is a huge positive from inflation, right? Unless you keep all your money in a pillowcase and pay cash for everything you buy then you are also the enemy. Plus, you acknowledge that supply and demand cause inflation as well, right? Is the free market conspiring to steal from you, too? Gimme a break.
The FED is a temple to greed. The most useless institution devised by man, but the most lucrative for theft of public monies.
In the end this whole thing is going to explode the Country like Nitride Glycerin
JMO
$600 Billion for air to keep the floatation devices above water for a few more months – the mass drowning is ineveitable.
Um dhimmi, inflation is actually bad for commercial banks and anyone who is a creditor. It’s good for anyone who is a debtor. Deflation is really only a good thing if you have lots of money saved up and no outstanding debts i.e. rich people like bankers. Which would happen if we went back to a gold standard because the supply of gold is finite whereas demand for money may not be.
Besides giving government money to unions, favored groups, bailouts or D.C. madams has nothing to do with the fed and everything to do with congress.
Just enhance your calm John Spartan.
Fred:
You miss the point. Bankers (at least NY bankers) can borrow money from the Fed at the discount window for less than 0.5% per year, and lend it back to the Fed by buying Treasuries paying 3% a year. For every billion you borrow, you make $30 million a year, with minimal risk, because you still have a billion dollars of Treasuries to pay back your short term loans (which, so far, you haven’t had to pay back, but just keep rolling over). Why wouldn’t you want to be a banker when the Fed is giving you this money pump?
(OK, yes, there is a risk that 1) the Fed closes the discount window, while 2) simultaneously raises rates so that the value of your Treasury bonds plunges, and leaves you owing more than you have on hand. Of course, I expect Steve Jobs and Bill Gates will announce they are secret lovers before that happens.)
I love the timing; watching Obama get kicked around the G20 summit is almost worth the QE.
so according to the fluffies the benbernacke was appointed by the georgebush.
kinda like the way he attempted to appoint the kenlay of enron fame as secretary of energy.
and the rightwing thinks this is good because the georgebush is also the rightwing.
got it.
Wasn’t this tried in Germany in the 30’s
