  1. I love the fact you can download an excerpt Chapter 7-Scandals from the sneak peek page.
My only concern is that there is only one chapter devoted to scandals.

  2. A perfect description of socialism . . . the relentless pursuit of mediocrity.
Free Markets . . . the unequal distribution of wealth
Socialism . . . the equal distribution of poverty

  3. Talk radio is made for people who can accept reality. The first host who got it all going was Lorne Harasen of CKCK and CKRM Regina back in the 1970’s. Both Harasen and Gormely woke us up and out of the Tommy Douglas dream world that we all lived. Get up at 6:00 AM., get on the tractor and work for the collective good of all. Shop at the Co-Op, haul the wheat and the cattle to the Pool, curl all winter, make more little socialists and CCFs for the future. Hats off to John!

*except for the Politburo, their families, and most Party members.
There. Fixed that for you, Fred.
    😉

  5. thnx Colin . . . much appreciated.
We have to bow and scrape, lick the boots of our Progressive Masters . . . they are just so smart !

It’s not a book about Sask conservatives.
Gormley truly speaks for the people of Saskatchewan!
    Gormley’s a waterboy on team Harper/Wall,
like all pudgy, soft, open mouth yahoos
from sea to sea to shining sea.

  7. Sour Grapes, Phil?
While the Calvert scandals are interesting, and probably the worst as far as human suffering and anguish is concerned, scandals are common place for the CCF/NDP.
When the Douglas Government took power in 1944 they immediately started an insider trading scam involving Government bonds. In fact, the Douglas CCF Government was plagued with scandals from beginning to end. John Gormley mentioned C.M. Fines in his book, Fines stole millions and then left his with and skipped the country with his secretary.
Fines was also central in the Rawluk scandal, in which Fines was trying to extort money from Rawluk in exchange for a SGIO franchise.
Is it any wonder why the CCF were referred to as “The Saskatchewan Mafia”?
    Are you choking yet, Phil?

  8. I will be keeping an eye open for a copy of this book as it sounds a whole lot like our NDP in Manitoba. One of the glaring differences is that unlike Mr. Calvert, Gary Doer and the first NDP premier ever in Manitoba Ed Schreyer, had charisma in spades.
Their personalities covered them for years. Now that the leadership of the NDP in Manitoba is someone who is less than dynamic the next 11 months prior to our first ever fixed election date of October 4th, 2011 will be a fear mongering festival like we have never seen.
The interesting dynamic will be the fact that the MB fixed election date is a hair over a month ahead of the Saskatchewan fixed date.
How will the roving band of NDP electioneers handle back to back campaigns? Will they prioritize and choose one province over the other? Will they water their efforts down by spreading themselves thin?
Will they say to heck with Saskatchewan for now and say let’s hold onto Manitoba or vice versa?
The next 11-12 months will be interesting on the prairies.

  9. I’m not a big fan of Gormley. He is an old left over Mulrooney hack who works in an industry that is totally dominated by big government. By extension he is unwilling to go after government for fear that his station will be punished. Hardly a situation that promotes free speech.
I haven’t read his book and probably won’t but perhaps it is timely given the situation over the sale of Potash Corp. Once again the peoples republic are prepared to interfere with the creation of wealth in the province. SK just can’t let go of their politics of envy which has cost them dearly.

  10. Abtrapper, get real. Gormley doesn’t “go after government” ? Ever listen to his show?? He derided Calvert openly for 6 years. He voiced his disgust for Paul Martin, also for years.

  11. Simon: If Gormely doesn’t ‘go after government’,what was he doing to Calvert for six years?

You do realize Lorne Harasen was NDP right? When his talk show ended he worked for the Calvert government as their media relations person…

  13. The NDP supporters that I am acquainted with (yes, there are a few left) would have no trouble with the subtitle of Gormley’s book. Mediocre is good. Mediocre is the way it’s always been.
Since the last provincial election, these people have been barricaded in their basements, waiting for the evil Brad Wall to privatize nursing homes, turf the residents into the street and sell the facilities to the highest bidder to be converted to liquor outlets. Well, labour unions haven’t been banned, hospitals haven’t been privatized or closed, the crown corporations are still intact and, the last time I looked, the highways were still being maintained by unionized, government employees.
Now the NDP supporters wander about in a perpetual state of disbelief, frightened and dismayed by the province’s prosperity and continually grousing over the loss of transfer payments from Ottawa.

  14. I loved Les McPherson’s comment in Oct 16 SP that a friend of his rejoices when the obits cover two pages because that’s the NDP base eroding.

  15. Aside from the online sales, what book stores are selling Gormley’s book?
This could be a good Christmas present for a few NDP voting relatives……haha.
