I Miss W

… nostalgia for the good old days of Katrina is about to kick in:

Eight days ago, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal ordered barges to begin vacuuming crude oil out of his state’s oil-soaked waters. Today, against the governor’s wishes, those barges sat idle, even as more oil flowed toward the Louisiana shore.
“It’s the most frustrating thing,” the Republican governor said today in Buras, La. “Literally, yesterday morning we found out that they were halting all of these barges.”

  1. Good ol’ Bobby got a fistful of “we’re from the government and we’re here to help.” The video about this cock-up is on Drudge and they showed a flow chart of the chain of command. It makes the Power Corp political chart look easy.

  2. I miss W. too. Honest, decent man even if he had his flaws.
Obama is a calculating snake who has no respect for the office of President.

  3. Make it worse on purpose, why that would only play into the hands of the ‘cap’n tax’ crowd…
Almost like saying the US govmnt knew about the blow out before it happened, and it was under dear leader Oblabla’s divine guidance all along.
Remember steel does not melt in fire, or is that only true with tall buildings in NY?
The golf games, concerts and so on was just a clever distraction.
    Oh, such blinding genius
And it is always about the oil, isn’t it? conspiracy flakes of the world, unite!
A new US evil is revealed

  4. Obama’s slow response to the oil skimming is going to cause a double dip in the economy. Three days after the explosion the Dutch offered skimming ships, Obama politely refused the offer. Catering to the unions of the US has allowed the oil to get to the shores. Bad socialist management will have ruined the Southern economy of the US.

  5. Horizon Deepwater = Chernobyl
Only difference is that the areas effected are heavy tourism areas and the cameras are going to be out and capturing every moment of this. It would be far worse if there could be video and pictures of what is really happening under the ocean. Then the doo-doo would really hit the fan.

  6. Make it worse on purpose, why that would only play into the hands of the ‘cap’n tax’ crowd…”
Flaky or not, it certainly seems like it.
Yes, most of the slow progress is probably due to too many Government agencies stepping on each others toes (Too much BIG Government is exposed once again)…A skimming boat was returned to shore by the coast guard because it did not have enough life jackets…But one would think that after 60 days, one would be put in charge and the others ON HOLD or in service of the leading entity.
Too slow…Too disorganized for too long IMO.
But Obama’s declaration of war on the oil spill the other night has haunting similarities with the past:
    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,594845,00.html
Yes, it’s about Cap & tax…About Billionaires and corporations wanting a piece of the ‘globull warming’ action.
I think they will not succeed until they find an excuse to shut down the internet, the free world’s last true weapon. That’s in the works too. google it.

  7. Has anyone checked to see if BP or its execs have an interest in ‘Alternate Energy’ or other potential beneficiaries of Cap & Tax? Somehow this blow out, its timing and the response to it has a malodorous stench.
What could be better; a reason to shut down the oil industry, an excuse for increased taxation and a means to screw Kenya’s former overlords, the British, out of their pensions.

  8. How I chuckle when people refer to Obama’s incompetence in his handling of the oil spill. No, not at all: his handling of it has been splendid from the perspective of a marxist out to destroy American capitalism. No need to be tenuous on this Right Honourable Terry Tory. Obama doesn’t want this spill mopped up; and he doesn’t care about a second term either.
And can we can the “I Miss W” phrase. It’s silly, girlish.
Let’s remember that W started the process in which about 50% of the formerly private economy is now in government hands. Yes, he’s a good and decent man, but a disaster. It cannot be mere coincidence that the utter collapse of the American economy occurred after W’s hubristic over-reach in Iraq and A’stan.

  9. This display of incompetence mirrors all aspects of the situation and all players. This is going to be interesting over the next couple years. Obama is making some claims that he’ll never live up to…he recently said up to 90% of the oil will be cleaned?! I don’t think so…you haven’t even stopped or even slowed the flow of oil yet.
BP isn’t going anywhere either, as much as they should be history, they will be propped up by some financial source or another.
The conspiracy theorists creating interesting stories about cap and trade and AGW are way out to lunch…it’s as ridiculous or more than any existing conspiracy theory including 9/11.

  10. University professors are the most intelligent people in the world.
    Take note, Canada.

  11. One small bright spot is that those of us who know how the US federal agencies have ground down economic development to near stasis level (Pre-Obamugabe!) are enjoying the spotlight now shinning on them. The enviro-nazis in the US have got at least a two decade head start on their anti-industrial revolution as compared to Canada. The damage to the national IQ from decades of irrational stupor is that half of America still has a favourable impression of Obamugabe. The fact that that number is likely higher in Canada should be extremely depressing.

  12. Bad socialist management will have ruined the Southern economy of the US.

Won’t be no ‘will have’ Bullpup, ;-(, down heya in Louisi-Yana we are DEAD now. Everything is gone now, no charter fishing, no tourism, canceled oyster, clam and shrimp season, no canning, no fish markets, no nothing. We are totally screwed. For years.

  13. It’s very obvious that the feds did the
    “don’t do something…stand there.”
There wasn’t a shortage of life jackets or anything…just return to shore for inspections.
The problem was Louisiana was deemed to be treading on Federal turf. Making the Feds look bad….
“Don’t let a crisis go to waste”, has taken on another aspect…..’don’t let somebody else spoil your crisis.’

  14. Don’t jump to conclusions.
Allow the benefit of the doubt.
Wait till all the facts are in.
But it sure is hard to wonder if the hard left socialist’s best trick in the book is not at play here. Trudeau was a master(sic) at it. Help create the problem so that they can reassure the people they will save them from said problem.
Question: Why did BP stop metering the fluid mud coming out of the well? Is it not essential to know exactly how much drill fluid mud was coming out of the well as the concrete was replacing it? Otherwise a methane bubble could be infiltrating the well. When the escaping fluid was just dumped overboard instead of being metered and recorded, other workers/monitors would not know of the discrepancy either. Who made the decision to stop metering? (Oil workers out there, please jump in here)
Perhaps there are some dots to connect. Just saying.
    – The inferred villains in global warming are oil companies.
    – BP is big into “green”. (Beyond Petroleum)
    – After the blow out, BP wasted weeks improvising.
    – Obama administration and BP refused all help.
    – On cue, Al Gore said the oil spill changed everything. (As in ‘will save floundering AGW scam’?)
    – Obama admin seems to be running interference.(Life jackets, union workers, refusing help, golfing)
Yes, there are always screw ups occurring and this one is the mother of all screw ups. If there is a way to screw up, man will think of it. But there may be some dots to connect here. Just saying.

  15. I wonder if an oil skimming operation could be profitable. Collect the oil, ?filter it?, transport it and sell it to the refineries. I expect that I am being rather naive and simplistic, but still I wonder.

  16. This should be far less of a problem to manage than Katrina and yet…
I mean, there is no solution in plugging the hole so far but what about the containment?…That’s where its starting to look so fishy (No pun intended)…Containing it off the coasts would not be enough to change public opinion drastically IMO. Does it need to become an international crisis? Is it to be that oil needs to reach European coasts?
“it’s as ridiculous or more than any existing conspiracy theory including 9/11.”
Oh please BTJ, the 9/11 dynamite loaded towers/inside job is so ludicrous even an old cynical of everything big and powerful like Govs and Corporations like myself knows a real stinker when I hear one or more so “study” one. No I never liked Bush much either.
    Just like 9/11:
Was the rig deliberately blown up? Nah!
    BUT,
Is the crisis being used for advancing an agenda???
“Never let a crisis go to waste”

  17. I guess they are waiting for Kevin Costner and his brother’s water vacuum to get there. may as well pay the hollywood elite and get publicity too.

  18. Yeah Cal2, where are all the Hollywood snakes?
Where are the relief concerts where they could voice their discontent with the current Prez?
    Where is DeCaprio?
A solution might be to temporarely put Bush in the White House so these ultra hypocrites come out of their hiding and start the charity drives and accuse the temp in charge.
There is no word to describe the hypocrisy of the left.
    Die Hollywood!

  19. BTJ said: “The conspiracy theorists creating interesting stories about cap and trade and AGW are way out to lunch…it’s as ridiculous or more than any existing conspiracy theory including 9/11.”
I agree with BTJ. No, really. ~:D
One does not have to assume some kind of wild conspiracy theory to explain the parked barges. Rather, this is business as usual under the US federal government. Horrifying incompetence is the norm in government, not the exception.
That’s why the US government needs to be much, much -smaller-.

  20. I miss W also, well maybe not the progressive side of him or the growing the size of government side of him.
Obama is using the oil spill to advance a bigger agenda.

  21. Lets face it the current government wants to make things worse…..they already know that capping the well is a long way down the line…if the well its self doesn’t collapse….which seems possible now….it could get a lot worse…and the government and BP know it now…

  22. The Command & Control of the WH (Executive Branch) has an Idiot, or someone that lacks respect for Obama’s leadership…This was a deliberate act to obstruct the cleanup
If Obama approved the obstruction, Congress must hold a hearing to question his mental ability to make leadership decisions.
{The proper action would have been to load a Coast Guard with Fire Extinguishers & life jackets and provide them to each ship/boat that needed them, in the Gulf}….
BP blew off their Engineering (boots on the ground are the experts) concerns and made decisions at a Management Level; which is a dysfunctional process that is worse then no (Zero) Engineering.. They are Gorillas, with PhD’s, that run the Company Operations.. A total lack of respect for the Engineering Process. IMHO they should never drill another Well

  23. “Oh please BTJ, the 9/11 dynamite loaded towers/inside job is so ludicrous even an old cynical of everything big and powerful like Govs and Corporations like myself knows a real stinker when I hear one or more so “study” one. No I never liked Bush much either.”
And the ridiculous theory that this oil spill is purposely being dragged out and made worse in order to push through cap and trade, and other ‘AGW intitiatives’ is any more plausible?
“Is the crisis being used for advancing an agenda???”
What agenda is that? Oil is dirty, oil is becoming scarce…those are the only motivators needed for rational people to conclude that a better energy plan is required.
You mean like using 9/11 to invade iraq sort of agenda?
“Horrifying incompetence is the norm in government, not the exception.
That’s why the US government needs to be much, much -smaller-.”
    Completely agree.

  24. No doubt come election time for governor in Louisiana, Demockrats will run on a platform that will highlight “Jindal’s failure to stop the spill and all the terrible things he did to thwart Obama’s perfect plan to fix everything”.

  25. And the ridiculous theory that this oil spill is purposely being dragged out and made worse in order to push through cap and trade, and other ‘AGW intitiatives’ is any more plausible?
    Don’t be so obtuse.
Obama knew from Day 1 just how serious this spill was; he didn’t even comment on it for 8 days, and his first action after 12 days was to send in the lawyers. Not only has he failed to lift restrictions to allow foreign help, he has stonewalled and foiled efforts by jindal to remediate his coastline. His performance is not one of extreme incompetence (although it was that, for a while), it is clearly intentional.
    Why?
Like any good marxist, he’s deep in the camp of the enviro-nuts, and controlling the masses, reducing freedom and expanding government control/power is easily accomplished by controlling people’s energy usage. Cap/trade accomplishes that, and sets up a soviet-style industrial control scheme for US business: more government control.
This man hates his country, and is a clear threat to the customs/culture/economy of the US. If you can’t see that, perhaps you might pull your head out and come into the light.
American voters had better get busy this November, else they may never begin the process of reclaiming their country.

  26. “Don’t be so obtuse.”
Nice word..but how am I being obtuse? Obtuse is believing wild conspiracy theories.
“Obama knew from Day 1 just how serious this spill was”
Wow…is this guy some kinda god or super human?…he knew immediately exactly how much oil was leaking? how bad the damage was? what exactly BP had planned in case of emergency? what the technology available for this type of situation was? Laughable.
There are things called laws, for one, and there is also something called politics…both of which weigh heavily on the decisions a president makes. His decisions are intentional, of course, but that doesn’t mean his end goal is to spread cap and trade across the globe with the oil and to push AGW initiatives on everyone for his own secret diabolical plan.
Shouts of extreme marxist/socialist country hating is ignorant bs, it’s the words of irrational assumptions and delusion.

  27. Ratt @1:11 – don’t despair; BP cares deeply about the “small people”. Barry too, natch.

  28. Maybe the governor should have the state’s Department of Revenue crawl straight up the backside of the Coast Guard personnel involved in this travesty. If the Coasties are going to be sphincters about inspections, they should have the opportunity to be on the receiving end.

  29. Wow…is this guy some kinda god or super human
Well, BTJ, we leave the superlatives to you and the bonehead Left; you’re the ones who’ve played up a rank amateur with zero executive experience into demi-g0d status. What’s wrong? Is your man-child showing feet of clay? Hardly surprising, when his entire political career is based not upon actual achievements, but community organizing, activism and voting “present” a record number of times in state senate. He’s not run so much as a lemonade stand, and he’s completely out of his depth.
Barry droned (and the Left were enraptured) at his Immaculation: “This is the moment when the ocean levels receded”; perhaps King Canutebama could help out the eastern seabord by dropping those ocean levels a bit to facilatate the cleanup, eh BTJ?
    Let’s review, shall we?
    – O was advised at the time of the spill the details and potential impact. His response: zero. Said nothing for 8 days, did nothing for 12. Oh yeah: then he sent in the lawyers. Thanks for that help, Champ.
    – governor Jindal pleaded with the EPA to allow construction of berms to protect the eco-fragile marshes. When marginal approval came for a minority of berms, weeks had passed. Obumble could have ordered the EPA to comply (easier than ordering americans to buy government healthcare), but *crickets chirping*
    – his failure to override the Jones Act and allow other countries to assist in the cleanup, and much damage could have been averted via processing the oil in foreign supertankers. Grade: Fail
    – the US coast guard is playing stupid, holding back preventive efforts by looking for lifejackets/fire extinguishers. Madness, in light of what’s going on. Obama’s response: more crickets chirping
    – it took obama 50 days to realize that BP had a CEO, and then called the Chairman for some pro forma “chat”. Do you think it”d take that long for Bush or Reagan to call BP’s CEO?
    – obama was too busy fundraising, playing basketball and working on dismantling the US to get involved in this issue. Then his hacks noted this didn’t play well for ratings, so a few senior flunkies talked about “having a boot on BP’s throat” and pursuing criminal charges, all the while BP is still trying to contain and control the leak. All tough talk, and ultimately counterproductive. Nobody can respond effectively with legal sludge watching over their shoulder, and this is at White House direction. Grade:: Below Fail
    – even barry got into the tough talk routine, talking about whose “@ss to kick”. Ooh, how butch. Everything comes back to the child-man president, always, and how it plays with his image. It’d be nice to hear obama pledge to kick some terrorist or islamofacist @ss once in a while, but that wouldn’t allow him to demonize Big Oil for political ends. Grade: Laughable, were it not so pathetic
It’s almost impossible to chalk up these dismal efforts to sheer incompetence and not to purposeful design, and obama’s lack of experience might support the former if he wasn’t so opposed to hydrocarbon-based energy. Obama is clearly using this disaster to attack Big Oil. His stupidest decision yet: suspending all Gulf drilling operations. More disrupting america’s ability to find and use its own energy sources. This play beautifully into the political arena of the eco-nuts and AGW hysterics. His own chief of staff said “never let a good crisis go to waste”. If you can’t connect the dots between obama’s response and his goal of reducing america’s use of oil/fossil fuels and his desire to werst more control with cap/trade, well BTJ, that’s not surprising; the Left have carried O’s water without question or complaint, so why stop now? He’s your cult hero, right?
Obama is desperate not to have this oil link projected as his “Bush/Katrina moment”. No worries there; Bush would accomplish more on this oil spill in a coma than obama has done to date. This is actually more like obama’s “Mayor Ray Nagin/Katrina moment”
And BTJ, if you don’t see marxism in all the megalomaniac spending, tax increases, wealth redistribution, attacks on the private sector and ever increasing government size and control, then maybe you’re correct: “obtuse” isn’t the right descriptor for you.. Perhaps “stunned” or “stupefyingly ignorant” better fits the bill.

  30. “Well, BTJ, we leave the superlatives to you and the bonehead Left; you’re the ones who’ve played up a rank amateur with zero executive experience into demi-g0d status. What’s wrong? Is your man-child showing feet of clay?”
What are you talking about? I don’t hold ‘leftist’ views..I have never claimed that Obama is anything special..he’s the same as all the other politicians…they all support the status quo…democrats and republicans are more alike these days than ever.
” Obama is clearly using this disaster to attack Big Oil. ”
    Huh? How so?
” His stupidest decision yet: suspending all Gulf drilling operations.”
Really? That’s his stupidest decision? And I guess if he didn’t and there was another accident he’s be genius?
“More disrupting america’s ability to find and use its own energy sources.”
There are alternatives to oil my friend.
“If you can’t connect the dots between obama’s response and his goal of reducing america’s use of oil/fossil fuels and his desire to werst more control with cap/trade,”
Can you connect the dots? Or are you just making assumptions? Do you know how many presidents have said that they will reduce america’s dependency on oil? At least the last 4.
“And BTJ, if you don’t see marxism in all the megalomaniac spending, tax increases, wealth redistribution, attacks on the private sector and ever increasing government size and control”
It’s not marxism…you can’t honestly think that these politicians are sitting there saying ‘hmmm…what would marx have done?..lets do that’. All the spending, tax increases, attacks on private sector, increasing gov’t are not new things..they have been cumulating for decades. It’s bigger than a republican vs democrat issue…it’s how the us political-corporate relationship has been trending for some time…across all parties.
