I vote for loki: LOL!

So Kate, I’m confused.
Are you now for needle exchanges or against them?
I believe, pete e, that Kate’s tongue was firmly in cheek when she posted this … ‘making a, uh hum, point, so to speak.
Hans, I also liked loki’s line about women and prostate cancer. I had to read it twice to get her drift … for a moment, because loki’s a doctor, I thought that MAYBE women DO get prostate cancer. What was I thinking???
I’m sure it the needle after the 4,000,093 that made the difference. Yep, I’m sure…
It’s so unfair that intravenous drug users run such a high risk of HIV. The government should make all of us shove stuff in our veins. Let’s get that number up, people!
Exactly, tongue firmly in cheek.
It’s a put-on, a sarcastic response to the great Liberal lefty way of continuing to throw money at problems of ‘bad behaviour’ without getting the intended result.
A Liberal knows no limits to wasting taxpayer funds
I’m for needle exchange. We should exchange used needles for used needles. It will speed up the process of natural selection.
Every morning I stand at the bus stop and watch a guy I call “Guttersnipe.” He picks up discarded cigarette butts and smokes them. He is one reason I don’t want universal health care. These IV drug users would be more reasons.
I’d like to thank “loki” for his excellent posts on medical subjects.
They give us an insight into how the system is really working.
I remember the latte liberals and media spouting the line ; ‘do not ostracize homos and druggies, AIDS is a heterosexual disease also’.
It’s my understanding that rising HIV rates in heterosexual black women in the USA IS a an issue. Black men on the DL (down low: having sex with men behind the spouse’s back) has been suggested as the cause, but it appears to be debatable.
Google HIV, Black and DL
I’m not terribly devout but I am of the opinion that HIV is GOD’s or a natural way of dealing with the sexually promiscous/deviant regardless of race.
HIV certainly has an impact on certain cultures both at home and abroad.
I watched the report on rising HIV cases in Sask. on Radio-Canada French TV station in Regina yesterday. Not a word was mentioned about the clean needle program.
The addicts sell their free needles off–they use second hand needles for their own use. Not hard to figure out where HIV is being generated!
POWinCA: You are wicked but practical!
WRT female prostate (or prostata feminina as it is supposed to be called but there isn’t a single medline reference to that term), it exists and can be a significant problem in some women (although not nearly as much as the male version).
I first started looking into this area when I was going to describe Canadian screening processes for gun owners as analogous to performing PSA testing on the whole population rather than limiting it to men. Once I had this idea, I had to find out what the incidence of female prostate cancer was as it’s non-zero but a very small number. Most of the work on the female prostate has been done by a Slovak doctor, Dr. Zaviacic who has written case reports on female prostate cancer. There’s an online copy of his review on the female prostate at: http://www.the-clitoris.com/f_html/zaviacic_sexo_41.pdf
The English version of the paper is at the end of the file.
Hopefully the above link won’t trigger the s**m filter. The one benefit of my arcane researches for my patients is that I now know that a significant portion of women who come in with frequent “bladder infections” really have the female equivalent of prostatitis. Treating them with long courses of antibiotics such as doxycycline works.
Indiana Homez, in blacks the incidence of heterosexual HIV is far higher than in whites. Northern European populations have the greatest resistance to HIV infection which exists in up to 10% of the population. Apparently smallpox virus uses some of the same cell surface receptors to infect lymphocytes that HIV also uses and the high prevalence of smallpox in Europe over the last few thousand years may have increased the frequency of this mutated CCR5 receptor. Blacks have essentially no resistance to HIV.
There’s probably a lot more to this story and someday I’ll have to look into this problem again. Effective anti-retroviral therapy made HIV into a boring disease (for me) and I stopped keeping up with the HIV medical literature in about 2000 or so.
loki, who would have known that females have ere prostrate problems if you hadn’t told us?
Do women HAVE a prostate? Does prostatitis translate into cancer or just manifest as frequent bladder infections?
Last question: Are you a man or a woman? I’m sorry, I either haven’t paid enough attention to your posts or they’re androgynous and I wouldn’t know whether I was paying attention or not.
My thanks, also, for your informative posts.
I wonder where 3 times the population of SASK. needles really end up? If like Edmonton, mostly on the ground in parks or school playgrounds at night. Of course children are at the bottom for concern. Its all about the doper Junkies.
The ones who while high steal your cars, break into your home, accost people & cause disease problems.

Thanks Loki, for enlightening us on the female prostate. This actually might explain some urban legends.
Being closely associated with the cancer care system I have learned a lot about the human body and the oncology field, but just when you figure you’ve heard everything… I dare say that female prostate cancer is even rarer than male breast cancer but who knows what has been misdiagnosed in the past?
You always learn something at SDA.
This is probably a dead thread now … why is loki getting all the attention? … it was my quote.

“The other objection Monderman’s ideas often meet is that people do act like idiots, and that, if anything, we need more separation, more safeguards, more rules. Standing with me near the roundabout in Drachten, Monderman noticed a driver speeding past. “There’s a little part of society who don’t accept rules, who don’t accept social structures,” he said. “It’s not up to a traffic engineer to change it.” A few weeks earlier, he said, a local 21- year- old who had just gotten his driver’s license had died in a crash. “He used drugs, alcohol. There’s not a street that can cope with that problem.””
