Welcome to the Wednesday (EBD) edition of SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight’s song is about food — specifically, about how darned tasty it is. Here it is, then: The Ink Spots sing themselves into a lather at the prospect of Pork Chops And Gravy with some cornbread and blackberry jam. And candied yams, and fried chicken…
Note the falsetto interjections (“In the bag!”) provided by the hungry happy-foot fella who is – clearly — so whipped up by his anticipation of the listed fare that he can’t help but burst into food-induced vocalized delirium. That’s one hungry man.
The comments are open for your tasty and filling Reader Tips.

CBC Wpg radio gets it WRONG again…all day today on their news broadcasts they have been referring to our Fed Health Min.as ‘Susan Aglukaark’…isn’t she some cbc hyped ‘musician?’
I recommend this piece by Monica Crowley in the Washington Times:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/aug/12/let-them-eat-cake-democrats/
Excerpt:
“The majority Democrats, intoxicated with power, are brimming with a haughty self-righteousness that is now veering into a prideful arrogance and self-destructive narcissism. Having misread their 2008 election victory as a mandate to push through liberalism on a grand scale, they are now stunned by opposition to their radical plans. To them, the depth and intensity of the dissent is unexpected and shocking.”
(…)
“This week, Mrs. Pelosi and her deputy, House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, wrote an op-ed in which they called everyone who opposes their plan for socialized medicine ‘un-American.’ (This, of course, has it backward: Socialized health care itself is ‘un-American.’) They also called those average Americans who have the audacity to hold their elected leaders accountable part of ‘an ugly campaign.’ Their op-ed came on the heels of the Obama White House denigrating Americans’ deep and genuine concern about the future of their health care as ‘manufactured anger.’ Earlier, Mrs. Pelosi had dismissed Americans’ demand for answers at town hall meetings as phony ‘astro-turfing.’
“Earth to Democrats: Displaying contempt for the American people when you are being paid by those people to serve their interests is generally not a good political move.”
Watch as Democrat congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee listens respectfully to the concerns of one of her constituents at a town hall meeting:

More “conservative” conviction in Ottawa – your cable bill will be padded with a tax to pay for local broadcasts your probably don’t watch.
Canadians are crying foul over a decision by satellite and cable companies to slap subscribers with an extra fee for local programming.
. . .
The hike represents 1.5% of revenues broadcast distributors are forced to dish out for a new television fund called the Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF).
. . .
Conservative MP Dean Del Mastro doesn’t think the fees are outrageous and said MPs knew the distributors would pass along extra costs.
Well done, “conservatives!”

EBD, some follow through regarding the attentive Rep (D) Shiela Jackson Lee, and the plant in the room… I had seen this clip earlier at http://www.babalublog.com …. titled “Disrespect”
http://patterico.com/2009/08/12/hmmm-was-there-a-plant-at-the-sheila-jackson-lee-town-hall-meeting/
as noted in their commentary, those Democrat’s backs must be sore from all the water they’re carrying for Obama.
I should have posted this earlier, but on Friday 31 July, Globe columnist Neil Reynolds wrote about The Israel Test, the latest work from George Gilder.
Since 1990, Gilder notes, Israel has “sloughed off its manacles of confiscatory taxes, oppressive regulations, government ownership and socialist nostalgia”.
He also says, “Israel has become one of the most important economies in the world and is second only to the United States in its pioneering of technologies that improve human life”.
This provides a major clue to the motivation of the extreme left who continuously attack Israel: it’s the usual brain-dead anti-capitalism. These power-hungry leftist parasites have yet to realize that were it not for the productive history of capitalism, they’d still be hunting wild game with spears every day instead of being able to pontificate their ludicrous, destructive theories in the ivory towers.
Meanwhile the Jews follow the imperative of “tikkun olam”, or “improve the world”, which surely explains why so many are successful.
Justthinkin @11:07 – deport her where, Winnipeg?
Marc, it is interesting that genuine, grass-roots, regular folk who speak up for themselves and their families at town hall meetings are portrayed as shills for insurance companies, etc. while the Democrats pretend that connected individuals from various organizing groups are just average folk:
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/08/12/the-illustrated-guide-to-obamacare-human-props/
Regarding Sheila Jackson Lee, her behaviour is instructive. The strangely dismissive and disrespectful language used by Pelosi et al, and Obama to a lesser extent and earlier on, towards these opponents of Obamacare shows a definite “you people don’t count” attitude. Even Camile Paglia, a strong Obama supporter by her own description, says, in the piece linked to by bluetech —
“What do Democrats stand for, if they are so ready to defame concerned citizens as the ‘mob’ — a word betraying a Marie Antoinette delusion of superiority to ordinary mortals? I thought my party was populist, attentive to the needs and wishes of those outside the power structure..(…)… The ethical collapse of the left was nowhere more evident than in the near total silence of liberal media and Web sites at the Obama administration’s outrageous solicitation to private citizens to report unacceptable “casual conversations” to the White House. If Republicans had done this, there would have been an angry explosion by Democrats from coast to coast. I was stunned at the failure of liberals to see the blatant totalitarianism in this incident, which the president should have immediately denounced. His failure to do so implicates him in it.”

It’s been pretty obvious for a while now, that, with the possible exception of Kenny, there are no conservatives sitting the House anymore.
There’s an excellent rebuttal of Obama’s vacuous and misleading rhetoric about ‘end-of-life’ counselling by Sarah Palin, where she counters Obama’s evasions with facts.
Sarah Palin
She writes, in part, “Section 1233 of House Resolution 3200 puts our senior citizens on a slippery slope and may diminish respect for the inherent dignity of each of their lives…. It is egregious to consider that any senior citizen … should be placed in a situation where he or she would feel pressured to save the government money by dying a little sooner than he or she otherwise would, be required to be counseled about the supposed benefits of killing oneself, or be encouraged to sign any end of life directives that they would not otherwise sign. [9]
Of course, it’s not just this one provision that presents a problem. My original comments concerned statements made by Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, a health policy advisor to President Obama and the brother of the President’s chief of staff. Dr. Emanuel has written that some medical services should not be guaranteed to those “who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens….An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia.” [10] Dr. Emanuel has also advocated basing medical decisions on a system which “produces a priority curve on which individuals aged between roughly 15 and 40 years get the most chance, whereas the youngest and oldest people get chances that are attenuated.” [11]
President Obama can try to gloss over the effects of government authorized end-of-life consultations, but the views of one of his top health care advisors are clear enough. It’s all just more evidence that the Democratic legislative proposals will lead to health care rationing, and more evidence that the top-down plans of government bureaucrats will never result in real health care reform.”

Things aren’t going well in Australia with their emissions trading scam – the Senate voted it down. An excerpt from one Senator’s speech, via Andrew Bolt
“Australia contributes a little over one per cent of the planet’s CO2 emissions. If we were to completely shut down the Australian economy tomorrow, Australia’s CO2 emissions would be fully replaced by China within nine months. It is indisputably the case that nothing Australia does on its own can have any impact whatsoever on the earth’s climate. The deceit perpetrated by climate change fanatics that an Australian ETS will save the Barrier Reef is utterly contemptible… The cruel joke is that all those thousands of jobs to be destroyed by Labor’s CPRS will be in vain, because this scheme will make absolutely no difference to the global climate”

Now I’ve heard everything. What’s wrong with a grade of “expelled”?
Darcy Wintonyk, B.C. university introduces grade worse than F
It used to be that the worst grade you could receive in school was an F, and that was bad enough.
But B.C.’s Simon Fraser University is taking punishment to a whole new level, introducing a grade of FD — meaning failure with dishonesty — the worst possible grade a student can receive…
…Make that “expelled and blacklisted for all time.”
Free health care clinic in LA set up by an organization that has NEVER before run free clinics outside the 3rd world. Looks like a DNC caper to counter Obamacare criticism.
————————————
INGLEWOOD, California (Reuters) – Inside an aging sports arena, where rows of dental chairs and a hospital smell have replaced the former Los Angeles Lakers basketball court, thousands of Americans are seeking free healthcare.
Hundreds were turned away just on Tuesday, the first day of a weeklong clinic run by the nonprofit Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corp as part of its mission to provide free health, dental and eye care in needy spots around the world.
It marks the first time in RAM’s 25 years that it has gone to a major U.S. metropolitan area — a reminder that even in Los Angeles, with world-class doctors and hospitals, many do not have access to affordable healthcare.

“Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the Expectations Index, which measures consumers’ estimation of the economy, household income and employment in the next six months, posted an eye-popping 8.5 point rise, leaping from 102.6 in July to 111.1 in August.”

“Canada moves up in economic ranking
Canada is expected to move up in the ranking of international economic performance in 2009 and 2010, according to the Conference Board’s How Canada Performs — Economy Forecast 2010.
“Canada is expected to weather the global recession better than most of its peers, which is a credit to its stable financial sector and a relatively healthier economic position upon entering the downturn,” says Glen Hodgson, senior vice-president and chief economist. “But achieving a higher rank because other countries are falling farther is not the basis for sustainable prosperity. Some of Canada’s fundamentals, such as labour productivity, remain weaker than those of the global leaders.”
Canada is expected to move up from its 11th place position ( out of 17 comparator countries that were last ranked in 2008) to the 5th spot in 2010 — narrowly missing an “A” grade.
According to the report card, which is based on the recent economic outlook report from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Develpment, Canada’s relative ranking is expected to improve on five indicators:” (more)
