Not Waiting For The Asteroid

Earlier this month, [Associated Press] announced it would distribute “watchdog and investigative journalism” penned not by its own staff or that of member papers, but by four outside groups: the Center for Investigative Reporting in Barkeley, Calif.; New York-based ProPublica; and two D.C. outfits, the Center for Public Integrity (CPI) and the Investigative Reporting Workshop at American University.
AP, itself a not-for-profit enterprise, identified the four organizations as “civic-minded” nonprofits. They also all have decidedly liberal sponsors. A cursory glance at the “independent” news shops reveals their reliance on left-tilting patrons such as the Knight Foundation and leftist donors such as financier Herbert Sandler and currency speculator George Soros.

  1. Good. The worse it gets, the easier it is for the general (non-blog-reading, apolitical, lazy) public to spot the bias.
It’s the subtle bias that is the more insidious. The obvious stuff actually helps as it erodes the MSM credibility further and will hasten their demise.
    As Kate says: Faster please.

  2. “Or is it someone working for a third party with a political agenda?”
    Is the “?” really necessary?
I’m a gen Xer and I’ve never read the news papers or watched local news broadcasts. The latter mostly because I’m interested in federal politics more than municipal, but the papers, simply because they’ve been crap IMO. Long before I was a right or left anything I already disregarded the news papers. Very rarely would I find anything interesting, and more importantly, I almost always feel insulted by the haughtiness of the writers. Very rarely would I agree with them, which is okay; but when their perspective is presented without any humility I can’t be bothered. After all, like belly buttons, everyone has an opinion.
So, based on my experience I suspect many people that don’t consider themselves “political” or well informed at least know crap when they read it; even young people, so I’m not too worried about the public being mislead more so.
btw, these people have clearly lost their minds, or the Kool-aid was very sweet. I was going to say it’s beyond me how these people can continue to HOPE that repeating the same behavior that got them into deep water will somehow get them on sturdy footing; but then I reminded of something Joe Biddy said last month: “We have to spend money to keep from going bankrupt”. I swear, I’ve been desensitized to stupidity!

  3. What I fear is that with the standards in play right now, no one will spot any difference. CBC, take a bow.

  4. Most of the national and foreign content in my local fishwrap is from the AP. I used to subscribe but now only glance at it at work. The latest mission seems to be convincing the public how effective the “stimulus” bill is. What a crock.

  5. That presents quite a challenge to rival afp in how to catch up and regain the lead in the race to the bottom. Another unjust war by oppressor Israel against the peace loving terrorists living south of the Latani River in Lebanon would seem to be their only real hope.

  6. George Soros! The AP is now the voice of the Communist United Nations
It’s time the UN was run out of NY, set up the turds in a cluster of the mud-huts.

That is the problem,Jason. This will make absolutely NO difference to the non-blog-reading,apolitical,lazy public. Because they are that way, even baseball bats don’t work. Don’t you realize that they ascribe to the following….
“research and learning take time, ignorance is instantaneous”

  8. It’s interesting how when faced with external challengges they retrench to their roots.
They’ve spent so much time building their ideological boxes that they can’t bear to step out of them….
And like Jason said “Good” because people do see the ….. even if the totally ignorant and oblivious won’t it make no difference. Those ones will never notice one way or the other.
If anyone was hoping to ever influence that demographic it takes doing through the entertainment media. That’s all the boobs ever pay any attention to.
