![]() Two Reasons |
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation, here is the Lion Tracks ¤ episode of Snagglepuss, brought to you for two reasons tonight, because, firstly, from a philosophical perspective: A Man’s Home is His Castle; and, secondly, from an engineering perspective: Heavens to Murgatroyd … (7:16).
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments, even.

Who We Are
There seems to be a bit of confusion among Democrats about the nature of the opposition to their plans. Maybe I can help clear things up, by telling them a few things about us.
We’re not paid minions of any corporate interest or lobby. Most bloggers working to stop the Obama health-care disaster are like me, writing when they can find the time, because we care about the future of our country. The same is true of the people showing up at town hall meetings, and organizing rallies. Some of us are well-dressed in tailored suits. Others wear jeans and T-shirts. Most of us are dressed in what we wore to work.
Much more at: http://hotair.com/archives/2009/08/06/who-we-are/
Forever blowing bubbles. . . . . .
I’ve been reading a bit about the cash for clunkers policy. Hmm, a government interventionalist policy, what could go wrong, right?
Lots of interesting things to think about. Will desperate consumers make an interesting economic decision – trading in their older cars motivated primarily by the $4500 for turning in an old car? And then will they buy a car that they potentially can’t afford – but one that has seemingly low monthly payments – after all dealers want to get rid of inventory. So, maybe down the road we will have a huge auto-bubble that will blow up when people can’t make their payments if interest rates change. Or, maybe they will just pocket their $4500, and move leaving the car on the street for the repo man.
Also, lots of people are reporting that their cars that are clearly junk don’t qualify, because their car is one or two MPG over the qualifying limit for the program. My understanding is that the MPG used for the program is at time of sale. So – if it was once fuel efficient, and is now an oil burner, and the windows don’t work, too bad, you don’t qualify.
Others are complaining that they made “responsible choices” buying fuel efficient vehicles – and that their vehicle doesn’t qualify, but their neighbours that bought Hummers are now pocketing $4500 so they can get a new vehicle because they feel like it.
People repairing older vehicles are grumbling. Also, the vehicles have to be destroyed – parts can’t be salvaged.
For those concerned with the environment – I’m sure there are theoretical fuel savings going into the future – but what is the immediate impact of trashing and disposing of all these vehicles, and how much energy went into making these new vehicles? Maybe they had to be moved off lots anyways, but . . . .
Ugh, a big mess
Just wondered what all the people who got their shorts in a knot over the purple Teletubby would think if a new cartoon show with a pink lion with a, shall we say, “foppish” accent appeared? Head valves exploding right and left…
vitruvius – many thanks. Two perfect reasons: one, it’s my home; and second….heh.
I wonder if Obama would understand these two reasons – the one about the integrity of the free citizen, and the other….
Thanks
You’re welcome, ET. While it will no doubt be the case that there will be those who can’t quite handle the concept of pink cartoon characters, nevertheless, the morals of the cartoon are not affected by their predilections, ergo the points remain made.
KevinB….or a hunter who lisps,or a pig who stutters? HEY! maybe we can explode a few of the leftards heads.Snagglepuss,Elmer Fudd, and Porky Pig posters everywhere.
Elmer Fudd wasn’t pink.
Justthinkin:
Unfortunately, the people who protested about the purple Teletubby were mostly nominal conservatives, like Pat Buchanan. I think guys like that over-stuffed windbag give conservatism a bad name.
Now THESE are the types of protesters that Dems have no problem with. Appear normal and well-dressed and well, there’s a problem.

no reader tips for the 6th so here it is:
what brilliant flash occurred over a certain Japanese city 64 years (plus a day) ago?
hint: same gizmo in the new mexico desert earlier in the month.
stronger hint: preceded the FINAL and TOTAL surrender of the Japanese war machine when they realized their favorite pastime of ‘fighting to the death to honor the emperor’ was about to be severely one-sided.
Man I was going to pack it in for the day when I opened an e-mail and found THIS from a US blogger….
AARP officials are trying to sell the Obama Health Care stuff to the membership. Not only are the folks in the meeting NOT happy with the message but they are having NONE of the arrogant self righteousness of the organizers and AARP officials.
OMMAG…watched the vid; town halls are getting very hot these days.
What is AARP?
AARP – I think it is American Ass’n of Retired People
Revnant Dream, go post and link.
I read that earlier today and have been posting it around to everyone who is conservative.
It looks like a manifesto.
Yes … American Assn of Retired Persons ….
Now the thing is that in this demographic a slight majority did vote Democrat…..
The people are PI$$ED OFF now that all the HOPE-N-CHANGE is starting to take shape!
Sounds like the dems were pushing a pile of “Hope you don’t wake up before we finish changing stuff.”
Oz is right.
Here is another excerpt:
‘We don’t invest our hopes in the government. It is beneath the dignity of free men and women to spend their days hoping a politician decides to provide for our needs. We face the future, not with passive and helpless “hope”, but with active and dynamic faith in ourselves, and our fellow Americans. We are opposed to a political class that tries to cultivate our hopes by showering us with fear. We don’t trust politicians with our fortunes, much less with our lives. In fact, we don’t trust politicians much at all… but we absolutely require them to trust us.’
Think of how many ‘fears’ we have been showered with as of late.
The Marines and two Presidents.

Nah. I’m a “Top Cat” kinda guy…
OK, I’m no math major. But I found the CNN report card for Obama interesting. I guess there’s a big special about the second 100 days running now.
http://reportcard.cnn.com/
Question 10 is “Grade President Obama”
The overall grade is a C-
However, 39% of 300,00+ respondents gave him an F
How dat work?
That funny language the pink cat speaks is not “gay” talk. It’s beatnik talk. The word “Beatnik” (Circa 1959) derives from the words “beat” and “sputnik,” the world’s first Russian satelite. Beatniks were a subculture somewhat similar to hippies. Check it out on Wikipedia.
As for the cat, he was funny, however I much preferred the Pink Panther!
THIS is news. Check it out:
http://market-ticker.org/archives/1304-BLATANT-Monetization-Uncovered.html
“.. The upshot: The Fed bought nearly half of LAST WEEK’S 7 year Treasury Issuance TODAY.
Huh? Remember, after the 5 year auction that went badly (and which I wrote about) the 7yr auction went “well.” Rick Santelli (and a lot of other people) agreed – demand was strong. That made no sense to me at the time, coming one day after a near-failure in the 5 year.
Well now we know what happened: The Fed pretty clearly pre-arranged, either explicitly or by “suggestion”, that the Primary Dealers take up the auction with the promise that The Fed would immediately monetize half what the Primary Dealer’s took!
Folks, this is beyond bad – it is pernicious and outrageous conduct by The Federal Reserve in conspiracy with the Primary Dealers, both of which are now desperately trying to prop up the US Government Bond Market through subterfuge rather than just buying up the bond issue from Treasury when originally put to the market!
If you think the economy and credit markets are “on the mend” why would The Fed do something like this? It would not be necessary unless The Fed was told (by those very same Primary Dealers) that they were going to be unable or unwilling to take down any more Treasury Debt.
Folks, let me be clear: The United States HAS OFFICIALLY HIT THE TREASURY DEBT WALL and The Fed and Treasury are engaged in subterfuge and conspiracy in an attempt to hide this from the market.
There is no other explanation for what just happened.”

Did National Post just sanitize its web and blog from any commentable material about gym shooter?
No, seriously, the blog entry is gone, with all comments. How PC! They probably got some comments from men, not so pleasing the feminist left…

Pelosi as the Joker. Don’t look at the link with coffee in your mouth.
I would like to think that McGuinty and his gaggle of minions should watch this as they plan to steamroll their green agenda forward. Silly me to think even they would get it.
Yesterday i posted on a new ekos poll showing a gain for the Conservatives. This was enlisted by the CBC, But to my surprise it was Not posted on the CBC Why? I looked again today & still no results(i only quickly scanned So correct me if iam wrong)
I guess though it was Not the result they(CBC) were looking? And finaly the MSM dont have a problem posting the New Liberal fortunes in donations.
My above observation is correct. NP deleted comment section from blog post
What so inflammatory was posted and in what numbers, for a ‘right wing’ newspaper to pull all comments and remove commenting facility from the page?
Hey Eric, that’s quite the report card, thanks for the link. I find it very interesting that some of the big states are giving him more F’s than A’s, such as Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan. Even the Democrat strongholds of California and New York are giving him lots of F’s. This is very bad news for his reelection plans. I’d like to see a report card for Bush to compare, any chance they have that sort of stuff archived?
“…Liberal fortunes in donations.”?
Why aren’t more people asking the Libs to start paying back the stolen ADSCAM millions??? That’s a question that should be asked to IGGY – in public.
What is also interesting in the CNN polls on Obama is that the polls show that the large majority, between 75% to 80% of Americans are fully satisfied with their health care and health coverage.
Given this statistic, then why are the Democrats and Obama pushing to take this away from them and instead insert a public ‘insurance’? Why? Who benefits? Ahhh..the government bureaucracy benefits, while private enterprise suffers. Is that it?
And note the viciousness that the Obama Administration is moving into – where it attacks citizens who dissent, who disagree, who question; where it smears them as ‘unAmerican’, calls them Nazis, calls them rabble, thugs, a mob…and essentially totally rejects their First Amendment Rights. And, furthermore, rejects that in America, power rests with the people. Not with an elite Administration.
Obama’s elitism, his arrogance, his insistence that he and his administration alone know ‘what’s best’ and that dissent and questions from the unwashed masses is unwelcome – is a dangerous road.
Never mind the payback of the millions, when are we going to see Chretien and Martin hauled before an inquiry like Mulroney?
-when are we going to see Chretien and Martin hauled before an inquiry like Mulroney?
~pete
When they play the Stanley Cup finale on the River Styx.
Pete, this will never happen. The Liberals are too embedded into the entire system to ever allow an enquiry. This is what happens when any party is in power too long.
Oz i would say
When they play the stanley cup finals in the ACC
in other words dont hold your breath Because you will Never I repeat Never see the money or the crooks come before an inquiry

Gads – when all your government does is calculate where and how to buy votes – is it any surprise that the regions that are in the tank don’t get the ca$h?
Why is folk fest unworthy in Tory Ottawa?
Edmonton JournalAugust 7, 2009
Well, Edmontonians, thank goodness we got rid of those darn federal Liberals. Now, when our town gets shortchanged–when, for example, the government ignores Canada’s largest folk festival in ladling out $100 million in stimulus boodle to “Marquee Tourism Events” — at least it’s our own representatives and their friends in Ottawa offering the short straw, and not a bunch of Easterners.
So much more aware of Western sensibilities than former federal regimes, Stephen Harper’s government did not try, for example, to make an uninformed argument that the Edmonton Folk Music Festival is not a “marquee” event (as opposed to, say, the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair near Surrey, B. C., which got $345,000 of your tax dollars.)
Instead, it came up with concrete explanations. Laughable ones, mind you. But at least concrete.
For example, there is the hilarious suggestion that the festival lacks “community involvement.”….
Oz i got it
Now on another Stanley Cup story If you are a Leaf Fan you might as well take a quick trip to Cole Harbour NS today as that is the closest you will ever be to the Cup.
The scam we call ‘Employment Insurance’
Lorne Gunter, National Post Published: Friday, August 07, 2009
There is almost nothing about Canada’s Employment Insurance (EI) program that is as it appears. Even its name is a dodge.
The plan does not insure against employment; that would be absurd. It insures against unemployment. Yet, in keeping with the disingenuous nature of the program, the name was changed to EI (from Unemployment Insurance) more than a decade ago in the naive hope that somehow the superficial switch in branding would encourage beneficiaries to find and keep jobs.
Nor can it rightly be called “insurance” — at least, not in the sense in which that word is normally used. In regions where unemployment is chronically high, premiums are no higher than in regions where workers are unlikely ever to claim benefits. In fact, in high-unemployment regions, workers can work for such short periods before qualifying that they often pay only a few hundred dollars in premiums before qualifying for thousands in benefits.
The opposite is true in high-employment regions and provinces: Workers can pay tens of thousands in over their careers without ever making a claim….”
A conservative commentator laying bare the fraud that exists in this statist nation. And our ‘conservative’ government in name, that governs as liberals…
Now on another Stanley Cup story If you are a Leaf Fan…

Nope.
I don’t follow hockey or any other sport.
I haven’t watched TV since the year 2000.
Doesn’t it strike you as remarkable that all these 3rd world toilets have soccer stadiums to execute people in?
Or that even under the NDP, that Saskatchewan, even with it’s road and other infrastructure in such disrepair, still had a CFL franchise?
Or that the sitting of the Canadian Parliament runs congruent with hockey season and that, historically, Hockey Night in Canada is the most watched program on the CBC.
Bread and Circuses citizen, bread and circuses.
I was really tossed as to what category to post this as most seems Obama related.

quite a read Just another reason the O’s numbers are in the negative, Is the O becoming a 1 hit wonder?
RE the latest EKOS poll — nice numbers, although these things don’t really mean that much outside of an election. Still, it is nice to see Conservatives slightly up, rather than slightly down.
I was just thinking about the vote on the left. I wonder if any Liberal-leaning people . . . particularly those on the far left might not vote for Ignatieff with the thought that he might be replaced by Bob Rae who could initiate a “unite the left” scenario. Could be a strategy.
Hardboiled – The Edmonton Folk Festival received $100,000 this year from the Federal government.
It was from another program, not the Marquis, but are you suggesting that they should have double dipped and received funding from both?
The Edmonton Folk Fest has about 20,000 people at the max per day as that is their capacity. Not anywhere near the 500,000 plus attendance required for the large marquis events.
So, whoever did the initial complaining is just Harper bashing as usual and , as usual the false story gets passed around and as usual don’t let the facts get in the way.
That’s the Canadian media way these days don’t you think?
ET: Re “Who benefits?” from Obama’s health care initiative. I have relatives on both sides of the border and I contend that all those people who do not currently have health coverage stand to benefit from this. Any time you switch jobs you have about a 3 month wait before a new insurance plan kicks in. Some people don’t leave their jobs because they are worried about losing health care. I am not an Obama fan — and acknowledge this may not be why he is making this move. I also think this is a really hard sell in the States since most people are O.K. with their existing insurance. I just think that most people are also not very aware of what happens if you need health care and are caught without insurance. This is a chronic worry for many families.
Linda, this is just TALK. Try to GET his healthcare once it kicks in.

always insightful to see the war room bunch out – y’all haven’t been high profile in here lately.
The vote buying must not be staying “on message” huh?
LindaL – I have relatives also on both sides of the border and they certainly don’t hesitate to switch jobs and I’ve never heard them refer to any waiting period with their health insurance.
As for families without insurance, why don’t they have it? The so-called 40 million figure is invalid, made up of many who choose not to have insurance, figuring that the costs of the insurance vs their needs is a bad ratio; many who are illegal; and only a small percentage of the poor.
Obama isn’t interested in helping that small percentage. He, or rather his handlers, are interested in removing private enterprise in the US and moving all ‘business into the government control.
Greg:
Despite the surge in the Dow/SP500 today, what I saw was the big dip in bond prices. The 10-year treasury yield was up to 3.854, just a few ticks shy of the 4% mark. The 10-year yield is often used as the base when ARM’s and other mortgages are reset; when those 3.5% mortgages get reset to 10-yr yield plus 1.5%, there’s going to be a whole ‘nother wave of defaults.
And reliable sources report that there will be an “adjustment” to reported job losses for the first half of 09 of between 500,000-1,000,000 jobs, BUT this won’t be officially reported until 2010. Hey, when you control the statistics, you can control the popular mood, right?
I used to think the Bushies, with their TSA thugs, no-fly lists, and repeated violations of the Constitution were verging on fascism. Once again, it appears the Republicans are pikers compared to the Democrats.
