May 27th – Hundreds of Sri Lankans have protested outside the Canadian Embassy, accusing Canada of supporting the Tamil Tigers in the final days before the rebel’s defeat. Protesters pelted the embassy with stones, sprayed graffiti on the wall and painted over a security camera.
I too would have been pissed if a foreign country supported the terrorists who murdered my people. Whether I would throw objects at their embassy is separate question though.

This is because Liberals have no clue what is happening inside or outside Canada’s borders. The Liberal Party routinely shows their ignorance of the way the world works only because they pander to every group thinking what they say does not matter beyond the room or crowd they are addressing.

Over the last weekend I visited my pilot friend who formerly served in the Sri Lankan Air Force medi-vacing patients who suffered injuries from Tamil bombs and explosions.
The foreign community tried to exert great pressure on the Sri Lankan govt. to ‘negotiate’ with the Tiger leadership. Of course the simple fact was Prabhakaran was down to a 100 square meter patch of land after offing some 70,000 people over 26 years. What pray tell is left to negotiate when you choose to go down WWII ‘bunker style’?

First, there are the tamil people, an ethno-cultural group and there are the tamil tigers, a terrorist organization, not the same.
Say it with me; not all tamils are tigers.
The tamil people have been oppressed by the majority in Sri Lanka and have been trying to gain some autonomy. Some were doing it through the tigers, which is wrong, but others have been trying to peacefully gain support in government and internationally for their cause.

Read up on your history Peter G… I agree they are not all terrorists… the Tamils cause started when they as a people were initially given higher status as a people over the majority in their country way back when. imperial rule… more recently the powers that be let their empire desolve and allowed the general rule to go back to the people of Sri Lanka … the general public in the region saw the extra privlages the Tamils held as a group held as wrong, and the popular vote recinded these extra privlages so all would be equal…no one should be privlaged or elite in society were everyone is created equal.
…enter the Tigers…Freedom fighters who believed they were entitled to their entitlements and 40+ years of unrest and civil wars…70,000+ dead at their hand because they’re belief they should be above all others in their society…

I still think Mark Steyn’s question deserves an answer. How did Canada end up with 10% of the Sri Lankan tamil population in just a few years. This country is halfway around the world and yet Canada received so many.
There would have to be considerable expense involved for an individual or family to come here. Who paid this expense as these people were for the most part not wealthy. Is there not a yearly quota of some sort?

Saw a small group this evening in Montreal protesting once again outside the U.S. embassy. I would have more sympathy if they didn’t keep
showing the terrorist flag, if they protested outside the Chinese or Sri Lanka embassy in Ottawa and if they stopped bothering hotel guests and office workers all day long with their screams of Genocide and drumming.
And I am dead set against even more Tamil refugees coming in for humanitarian reasons. We have done enough for the Tamils.
Further to Shawn’s comment about the Paris Whore, what does that make Sarkozy who’s invited the Mighty O to the 65th Anniversary of D-Day celebrations but has refused to invite the Queen. Just wondering where the fall-out from this one lands.

The Tamils seem to want their own little teeny country on the greater Sri Lanka Island. The majority don’t want to break up their country.
This sounds a lot like Quebec and Canada. In Canada we simply pay of the Qubeccers. In Sri Lanka they know the value of a buck and a unified country so the decided to kill them instead. What else could they do with all the terrorism and death.
I wonder what would happen here if we stopped paying Quebec to not get violent …. like did before when PET had to call for martial law.
