  1. As one commenter wrote the age of wind (1000-1850AD) did not end because we ran out of wind. Intermitant, unreliable power and deadly construction costs then and now, were the reason for a rise in water power and fossil powered steam.

  2. Hummmmmmmm. In one way, this could be great news. Remember how the NIMBYs fought nuke plants, power lines, etc because of the health problems supposedly associated with them? Now maybe they can make themselves useful and start fighting these bird and apparently other animal life killing fans. Naw.A NIMBY/leftard do something useful?

  3. In Kingston, ON, they’re in the process of turning on an array of newly installed wind turbines on nearby Wolfe Island.
Easily viewable from Kingston, the turbines are an eyesore to an otherwise picturesque rural landscape.
I often get labelled a dinosaur at family settings for being the only one against these monstrosities as well as many of the other ‘green’ initiatives like Kyoto. Because of blogs like SDA, at least I know I’m not alone. 🙂

Creating real vista pollution in order to combat imaginary air pollution.

  5. Oz, Creating real vista pollution in order to combat imaginary air pollution.
Yep, that about sums it up.

  6. Wind turbines are a real scam, the Springfield Monorail was just part of a Simpsons cartoon, but the end will be similar.

  7. Ever been next to one of these birdwackers? They are most certainly not quiet and are not exactly a view enhancer. If you don’t believe me ask snowbird Anne Murray. NIMBY

This little Gem courtesy of Climatedepot.com. I ask the same question; If you do not think it will kill jobs as argued in the commitee then why add a 3 year unemployment fund?
More welfare to make people poorer rather than good jobs building coal and nuclear and NATGAS plants, LNG Terminals, Pipelines, Rail lines etc and then real jobs for welders and pipefitters, engineers and electricians working at those plants. Not people out planting plants for carbon credits, instead working at plants for a real wage!
Wind Farms create temporary local employment for 1-2 years per site for about 100 people, then 2 permanant jobs, these figures come from 75-150Mw intallations in Canada and USA.
Under the Cap and Steal bill the price for Wind Generator Towers, Blades and Transportation of such will increase, leading to less workers to control costs. Towers are steel, Steel Works are Primary Source Emitters of GHG.
Here is my challenge to the indutry that has been compared to silicon valley in innovation, so like the way the micro-processor allowed designers to create better micro-processors; I CHALLENGE the Wind Industry to power all your manufacturing with wind. Power the tower and blade plants, the smelters and aluminum plants with wind ONLY.
Also a new automated blade molding and shaping machine was unvieled this year that will automate the blade manufacturing eliminating those “good paying Green Jobs” the President likes so much. Up side is traditional machining and fabricating jobs will get a boost to build them, funny how those “Blue Collar” jobs seem to find a way.

  9. Re the jobs the new green economy is supposed to generate: a major wind turbine manufacturer in Europe is shutting down all its operations and transferring the manufacturing component to Asia.

  10. Noisy & ugly . . . so you’ll never see a wind turbine in a Kennedy’s back yard, near any of Al Gore’s homes or within miles of Oprah Land.

  11. Kills goats heh? Well, you’ll never see windmills in muslim land then… 😉
…In anycase, these fools would try to fly them for obvious reasons.
“Look, Abdhu it has a propeller…”

  12. To add to Terry Tory’s comment,
It’s a good thing the middle east is oil drenched, those turbines could ruin the sex life of thousands of Muslim goat herders.

  13. Illiquid – “CHALLENGE the Wind Industry to power all your manufacturing with wind. Power the tower and blade plants, the smelters and aluminum plants with wind ONLY” – EXACTLY!
Same for bio-fuels. Both are a net energy losers. Losers, as are Gore/Suzuki/Hansen, et al.

  14. I’m not surprised by this. In a comment on my Green Grift blog I noted:
…there is a scheme for an “environmental” corridor linking together pieces of land across Ontario, ostensibly to protect the environment. Yet, they are proposing to string wind turbines along the whole corridor. It seems that animals are unable to complain about wind turbine syndrome. What an opportunity!

It is rather ironic when one considers that we’re putting these things up for the “environment.”

  15. Wow, Kate, that “kids” thing just flew right over my head the first time….so used to seeing the “for the Children” mantra that I completely missed it….hehehe
