  1. I’m sure you meant man caused disaster tribunals …… if not , off to the camps with you .

  2. The AP headline reads “Obama revives terror tribunals, dismaying liberals.”
Well, we’ll see just how dismayed that generalized group of liberals will be. I’d bet the proverbial farm that there won’t be anything approaching the level of criticism that there was against Bush and Cheney, and that most Obama supporters will stay onside, either moving the goalposts and equivocating in defending his decision, or mildly chiding him for changing his mind — i.e. being just a politician.
The loudly-announced antipathy against Bush and Cheney over Guantanamo was never really about some overarching sense of moral outrage about the treatment of prisoners anyway, but rather an easy, short-form demonstration of partisan cred.
Like I said, we’ll find out in the next few weeks how outraged Obama supporters will be. My guess is that the reaction will be relatively trivial — a gentle puff of wind — compared to the storm of “outrage” directed at Bush/Cheney and the Republicans. After all, this is the Dear Leader we’re talking about.
If anyone hears of Janeane Garofalo or Tim Robbins or Sean Penn etc. teeing off on Obama over this one, be sure to let us know.

  3. Anybody know why I can’t find Steyn’s article on Ignatieff? I seems to be stricken from Mcleans. Off topic I know. sorry.m If they pussied out I’m cancelling my subscription.

  4. Thanks. My mistake. KI guess Growing up in Trudeau Canada makes you expect common sense to be exchanged for political correctness. Always on the lookout.

  5. Hey a TV show from the ’70s gets recycled:
And now direct from water boarding in the surf at Guantanamo, live on stage its:
    “WELCOME BACK KHADR!!”
    Cheers
Hans-Christian Georg Rupprecht, Commander in Chief
    1st Saint Nicolaas Army
    Army Group “True North”

  6. Nice move Obama!! Guess we had you pegged wrong. Hint: Wal-Mart is having a sale on nylon rope this weekend. That’s the the best noose we’ve had in weeks!!

  7. Such cynicism here. No more will prisoners have to stay in wire enclosed cells. They’ll get real bars in the new ones, and maybe some pasties of pink unicorns to beauty them up a bit.
Now, I know that indefinate imprisonment can be, well, like a really long time, but a nice autographed Obama poster should make anyone’s day a little brighter.

  8. Obama is like G.W Bush on steroids. I have always wondered what would happen if all our “leaders” got wiped out in a first strike… Now I Know!
    (1.Obama 2.Biden 3.Pelosi… We are F***ed)

  9. No No No you are missing the narrative, this is the much more humane well thought out and rights filled “illegal tribunals” see when Obama does it then it is just better by default.
Example Obama does not run deficits, he is investing in the future, funding the war on terror is providing critical support for the US Troops in harms way …see how that works?
When GWB set up the tribunals it was a flagrant violation of the Geneva Convention and the Constitution of the USA.
Now it is the best solution to deal with the detainees that will not be accepted by any country on the planet. See it is all in who is doing it , not what is being done.
Ain’t being the One Grand, repeal then reinstate policies and voila instant Kudos and backslaps all around for your wisdom and decisions.

  10. Please. Please. Please. Do not let Canada accept any of them. None. Especially Omar.

  11. “But his action was almost instantly denounced by a host of liberal-leaning groups who suggested he was going back on campaign promises”
Yeah right. A politician lie??? Illiquid Assets summed up the lefts reasoning(???) pretty well as to how they will justify this. Ummmmmmmm…..the cretin or taliban jack been talking to the Zero lately?

  12. My guess about the liberal reaction to their pet, Obama, about his yet-another flip flop, will be to somehow, blame Bush.
They’ll say that Obama has no choice but to keep Guantanamo open, or hold the trials, because..Bush has so alienated The World that no-one will take these people. They’ll say that Obama has tried to ‘soften’ the world and show how congenial he is, but, the legacy of..Bush..remains and so, poor Obama, he has no choice.
Just as he had ‘no choice’ with the ‘stimulus package’.. Just as he had ‘no choice’ with the AIG bonuses…Just as he had ‘no choice’ with the car company take-overs..
By the way, with regard to the stimulus, unemployment is up. Oh well.
Victor Davis Hanson has an excellent column,
‘Cracks in the Obama Facade’. Go to Pajamas Media.
A few excerpts – Rather than investing in exploring home resources of oil, gas..”Instead, Obama is ignoring the potential of coal, nuclear, gas, and oil, intent on cap-and-trade, and pie-in-the-sky present-day Gore-ish wind and solar. The result will be that our energy bills will skyrocket. Our vulnerability will increase.”
Is Obama using cap and trade to pay for his health care?
How about debt? “I do not know what is worse, the mega-interest to come on the debt; the stifling of economic initiative and the rise of barter, off the books income, tax avoidance, or simple slowdowns; or the creation of vast new dependent classes who vote in exchange for entitlement.”
And security? “For 24 months Obama ignited the left to slur the Bush protocols as krypto-fascism, then found (1) they worked, (2) they were not fascist at all, (3) and now he cannot muzzle the left wing multi-headed Cerberus he unleashed.”
And “In just three months Obama has caused more disunity than most presidents in recent memory. Why and how? He has chosen to demonize as greedy (cf. the Super bowl quips, the “speculators” jab, the “fair share” and “spread the wealth” slips, etc.) capitalists en masse. Why laugh as Ms. Sykes wished for Limbaugh to die of kidney failure, which set a new low for presidential uncouthness. He treats the media with contempt as all earls do with obsequious court jesters. There is a mood of ‘them/us’ and ‘time is running out’, as the Obama administration used the panic over the autumn 2008 financial meltdown to steamroll through a statist, postmodern economic and social agenda before the people woke up. ”
And that includes race relations. He’s deepened and polarized ‘races’ – and this has been done intentionally. As I’ve said before, Obama divides people into closed identity groups, sets them up against each other -and thus controls them.

  13. ET, you’re totally wrong. Wrong wrong wrong.
See, when Bush used the military tribunals they were bad. Because they were the traditional method for dealing with foreign combatants, the way it was always done in the USA to that point, and tradition is bad. Racist, y’know. Imperialistic.
Now when Obama decides to use military tribunals, that’s -good-. See, because he’s one of the Good Guys(tm) and he’s got the Hope and Change(tm) we need to end racism and imperialism and all that terrible stuff Bush did.
Obama is The One. We LOVE him, he can do no wrong.
Say sorry now ET. Nerve of you, bringing up facts at a time like this. Tsk.

  14. “I’m sure you meant man caused disaster tribunals…”
Yes indeed. Everyone knows these aren’t alleged terrorists.
    They’re alleged disaster-causemen.

  15. butbutbut, think of the job opportunities as a UN-qualified socialist negroe? from the States,no less?
