Last week President Obama held his first news conference. Of the handful of reporters pre-selected to introduce his 13 minute “answers”, not one asked him if he had personally read the trillion dollar “porkulus” bill he’s been campaigning to have passed.
I call that journalistic malpractice. But then, what’s new?
Seven Democrats joined every Republican in voting against it. Now, there’s that bipartisanship they promised!

Is there a missing link here, Kate?
It should be tracked and exhibited at the Natural History Museum.
I call that Congressman a great guy. The Democrats wear this one.
Trudeau’s liberals must be green with envy, if not worms, at the ease the US Of A liberals have managed to shove this boondoggie down the mouths of their people.
Capital spending by government on infrastructure can be a good thing if that investment leads to improved productivity in the future.
But if you are borrowing those funds from a foreign concern, then you darn well better be improving your productivity in such a way that positions you to export to that foreign entity.
In an economy that is based on dry cleaning, nail salons, car detailing, finance, insurance and real estate, (oh, and climate change moovies) it’s difficult to image how effective that’s going to be. This piece of junk legislation, designed more to purchase a Democratic hegemony than to ‘fix’ the economy, seals the death warrant for the US fiat currency.
Let’s not allow the same stupidity to happen in Canada. That basically means we should do the opposite of whatever the professional journalists at the Red Star, CBC and CTV espouse.
And, what, pray tell, does Memo Boy think we should do about the economy (other than the usual Give Generously To Liberals meme)?

Shaken…..I’ve been saying for years….if the leftards,socialists,commies,U.N. want it…IT IS BAD. Throw it out.
Considering the recent market meltdown and financial malfeasance of Bernie Madoff’s $50 Billion dollar Ponzi scheme, I find it rather astounding that the same “intelligencia” who would excoriate Madoff and the SEC, can’t be bothered to read an appropriation bill valued at $787 Billion.
Well it is good to know someone is minding the till.

One thing the big “O” has given many Americans is hope, something that has been lacking for many years. I just hope he can deliver as many will be disappointed if he doesnt.”

“…every Republican in voting against it.”
Could it be that the Republicans are finally coming back home? (Or maybe there just wasn’t enough pork for their constituents – I didn’t read the bill either).
Wasn’t it: “Pass this bill or its CATASTROPHE!” cf Drudge Report
That’s like passin the bank teller a note: This is a stick up, give us all the money.
They didn’t even read the note, and just handed over the cash.
Hey that sounds like a $787 Billion dollar heist.
I’m ‘a stickin’ with Jesse James on this episode.
Pour yer powder, cut yer patches, and cast some lead balls, we got us a genuine Congressional stick up!
Cheers

Reading? That’s for the literate.
Not One Member Has Read This Bill
It makes me sick to my stomach!
Hans…yep…Hailing Jesse, Hailing Jesse, Jesse James!
Cheers…
I get the impression that most congress(wo)men have difficulty reading the breakfast menu at Dennys. How on earth could they be expected to read porkus maximus.
Lord help us.
“A failure to act, and act now, will turn crisis into a catastrophe.”
— President Obama, Feb. 4.
Who needs to read a $787B porkulus bill when The Messiah has spelled out the consequences so clearly?
Reading just delays the bill and adds risk to recovery. In Obama we trust.
On the other hand, as Charles Krauthammer wrote:
“So much for the president who in his inaugural address two weeks earlier declared “we have chosen hope over fear.” Until, that is, you need fear to pass a bill.”

“Not One Member Has Read This Bill”
Heh.
That’s exactly what Michael Moore said about the Patriot Act. He couldn’t find anyone who had read that bill either.
Stupid politicians.
The funny thing is, here in Canada with our undemocratic senate, they were the ones who spent the time to actually read through Harper’s Accountability Act. Clearly no one had read that important piece of legislation either from either side of the floor. Despite Harper’s insistence that it be passed unamended, they found countless errors, references to sections that did not exist, and a big mistake that required the government to illegally disclose personal information (home addresses and phone numbers).
Not making a defence of the senate here (although that is a pretty good one). Just pointing out how politics, and especially partisan politics, turns our leaders into bad governors.
Who wrote the bill anyway? How did 1100 pages of spending just materialise without anybody knowing what was in it?
Stimulus Package Explained (Q&A)
Yer right Ted and your beloved Liberals perfected partisanship under Chretien.
The press in this country is even more pathetic than the US media. Perhaps a little more doggie doo doo should be sent their way?
A pox on all reporters who have lost the true meaning of journalist integrity.
Great post! I really enjoy reading your blog. Keep up the good work.
I recently started a new blog that will be highlighting the dangerous advances of the secular progressive movement (pro-gay “rights”, pro-abortion, anti-religious freedoms, etc).
We’re looking to build a solid group of conservatives who’ll frequent our site regularly and contribute to some good discussions. The site gets updated daily with breaking news, so you’ll want to check back often, or you can just sign up for our News”>http://religionandmorality.wordpress.com/feed/>News Feed.
If you’ll add us to your blogroll we’ll gladly add you to ours. Our blog is called Religion and Morality.
Thanks!
the dems are in power, reading and thinking is no longer required.
Listening to NPR’s coverage of the bill, I was struck by how often the phrase “We have no choice” kept cropping up in the discussion. To a moron like me, it seemed sinister.
Kindly provide proof for your statement that ‘clearly no-one had read’ the Accountability Act in the House. I know that you believe that but reality exists despite your own beliefs and reality can be quite different from your beliefs.
That includes the over a year they took to ‘read’ the Accountability Act. Does this length of time mean that they have problems with literacy or does it mean that they were deliberately holding up the bill, hoping, possibly that the minority government would fall and end the bill?
Oh, and some proof for your other assertions that the changes the Senate wanted were ‘errors’ rather than ideologically based. For example, the esteemed Senators refused the section that would have made the Senate accountable; instead, they insisted on ‘policing’ themselves.
Your statement is therefore not a defense of the Senate, for it is, as a statement, simply assertions and not facts.
sounds exactly what happened with the Patriot Act, reading of bills and the lack thereof is hardly the domain of just the left or right.

Shh – I don’t think I’m ready to learn about our alien overlords just yet.
To quote the Simpsons:
“I was elected to LEAD, not to READ”
Hmm… maybe Obama didn’t read what was in the bill. Maybe he just takes orders from Supreme Overlord Soros… maybe Obama’s just a wooden dummy speaking to Americans via George Soros’ hand up his arse and via Soros’ thrown voice…
Obama’s good at selling pigs in pokes to Americans… that’s why the awesomely wealthy and powerful Leftist establishment chose him as the Dem Nom and Machiavelli’d and cheated just right this most recent election to make him President. Manchurian Candidate, oh, yeppers!
Lura-according to congressional staff members, they did not have a copy of the “bill” to review: it was mostly written by various lobbyist groups.
