U.S. President Barack Obama will likely order a military commission to withdraw charges against Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, a suspect in the U.S.S. Cole bombing held at Guantanamo naval base, ABC News reported on Thursday.
The decision, likely to be announced on Friday, would end prosecution of al-Nashiri in the military court system that Obama has criticized and may ultimately dismantle, ABC News reported, citing unnamed sources
Word on the blog street has it that he plans to defend the decision in a photo op session after meeting with Cole bombing survivors and families of 911 victims – perhaps to remind them he “won”.
(The reason the 911 families were invited? Just guess.)
More on the rationale here, but the short form is “his order to close Gitmo made him do it.”
Meanwhile, over in the dead center of the universe…

Via Darcey.

The next time a terrorist flies a plane into a building Obama damn well better hope it wasn’t being flown by one of the terrorists he let go.
The cost of killing his presidency and exonerating Bush’s would be too high.
The only good which could possibly come from this is that the “released” terrorists are deported to places nasty enough that the terrorist’s corpses are never found. Remember that “renditions” can be justified “in some circumstances” like a democrat in office.
Crawford dismissed the charges against al-Nashiri without prejudice. That means new charges can be brought again later. He will remain in prison for the time being.
You might want to point that out. He’s not being set free.
mhb23re I’m not sure whether Layton is to the right of Obama. One never knows how much BS is spewed forth but I do know there is a very, very slim chance of Jack ever being elected. He too seems to lack a firm base of reality when seeking solutions to real and imaginary problems. We have the Liberals that create a half-arsed problem to come up with a half-arsed solution that spends ‘other peoples money’ and hires more government pensions.
I’m bilingual, Ted.
Hear ya,Ratt.Got married in Thibadeaux,Dec 02/89.Now why is a whiteassed Canuck gettin hitched in the deep south.Just so happens my best man was a Warthog peelot from Alexandria, and we met on an exchange trip. He thought it would do me and the missus good to come on down and have a real southern wedding.Must admit, you have never had a pecan cake until it is made from the pecans you picked of the ground in your backyard. And the bayous.Spent days fishin, and caught nothing but a whole lot of contentment.Oh yeah, and one water mocassin, who seemed to really like our pirogue(sp?) we had borrewd from a real canjun. He liked the stern,we stayed in the bow.
5 more years, and will be retiring on some bayou(the missus is Yank, from Boston).Heh,now she has to sponser me.
OH.And simeon.I will go and help burn the Whitehouse,if iowavette and the rest show up to help burn down Yorktown(Tarana)!!! Sounds like a win-win to me.
In three years is the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812, me thinks we Canucks best burn down the White House to save America from it’s self.
LOL. As a Yank, trust me, in a three years we may be praying for outside liberators. If I was one of the USS Cole or 9/11 family members in attendance the Secret Service would be pulling me off of the little twit. Next week expect the announcement that they are looking for foster homes for these homicidal jihadi slimeballs.
Last night the twit was on the airwaves stating how we need to get this stimulous package sown up so that we can get America’s unemployed, today pushing 7.6%, back to work on new infrastructure jobs. Sorry, but, the retail, financial and tech sector folks hit the hardest are hardly going to become day laborers, welder, rebar fitters and cement finishers in their new careers. But, on the other hand, I’d like to see every latte liberal now unemployed that voted for the twit forced into building bridges and highways.
Small businesses were responsible for 60 to 80% of net new jobs the past decade, they employ 50% of the US in the private sector, that’s where the relief is needed. It’s the group that is getting killed now. Could it be intentional as we shift to a bloated public payroll socialist economy, you bet.
One good thing, Bernie Madoff’s demise has wiped out a lot of moneyed liberal donors. The Dems coffers aren’t going to be so fat next time around.
ET: Yep, loved Krauthammer’s column “The Fierce Urgency of Pork”.
The entire ‘stimulus package’ is pretty stimulating to Dem pet causes, but has little regard for the nation as a whole.
The mantra of “hope and change” replaced by “fear and pork”.
I’m sure some of the raving Islamists will be happy to help the Obama-Nation(tm) with the fear part, but I understand they eschew pork with a vengence.

You guys are completely unhinged, LOL, Jevus, there is not enough tinfoil in the world to protect your paranoid noodles from the OB Rays.
I said two weeks ago that it’s the pre-9/11 mindset that opened the door for Obama in the first place. The economy was just the icing on the cake.
ET
What is your problem with salespersons anyway?
This is reality.
Paranoia was when the left had their knickers in a knot saying Palin would convert everyone to Christianity.
indiana homez – I have no problem with salesmen being salesmen. Their mandate is to ‘move the product’; a good salesman does not move dysfunctional products. Obama doesn’t bother to check whether the product is viable or not. But, my point is that a President should not function as a salesman but as a CEO.
The CEO of a corporation better not be a salesman but a hard-headed realist, a leader capable of understanding manufacture, shipping, marketing, product viability, population requirements, accounting and so on.
Obama is not a leader. He’s a salesman and his interest is not even in the product but only on his own narcissistic need to Control You.
Sorry – I don’t understand your comment on ‘pre-9/11 mindset’.
Here, maybe you guys can think up some more verses.
Imagine a bunch of jihadis sitting around a fire in Wazyristan, one of them playing a guitar, and they take turns singing verses to Guantanamero (Girl from Guantanamo)

Someone say something about burning down the residence at 1600 Pennsylvania ?
I still got 4.5 weeks of vacation on the books.
Good Golly Miss Molly, married in Alexandria, Louisi-Yana, whooaaa, talk about a real lil nice community that is, very pretty during the spring, a lil hot in the summer and not quite tainted yet with Big City looks. Good place to retire and raise kids. We must be on the same retirement plan, my goal is 5 years too too, but I am not actually retiring, gona open up a bait stand and sell BBQ and Beer. You know, cook stuff kindof like some of that meat Kate had all wrapped in Bacon. Next time ya in Louisi-Yana stop by I always have a cold beer in the fridge, I may bitch and moan and groan about my southern coonass cajun cousins, but I have never met one hunting, or fishing that wouldn’t lend a hand, or his whole dayyam family if you were in a bind. That’s just how it is down there, hell, we will all sit in the living room, hold hands, and cry while your Grandmaw talks to the Governer about a pardon for her husband. 😉

A false and fake god. It is disturbing to see these depictions of Obama as some sort of Messiah caricature.
Last evening Jon Stewart and Colbert both attacked the pork in the “stimulus bill” extensively…..
There is hope for the MSM yet…
ET, I too enjoyed Krauthammer’s article as well as your characterization of Obama. In my experience, whenever the media touts a political candidate as being “charismatic”, what they’re actually referring to is a manipulative, devious, narcissistic jerk, who if elected will immediately become dictatorial.
It seems that “charisma”, instead of being a desirable quality, is more accurately a ruse which has particular appeal to shallow, lazy-brained people. To wit, Trudeau was described a charismatic, and more importantly watch how the media will characterize Ignatief; dollars to doughnuts the word charisma will be attached.
Just in time for his token visit, Canada is being blamed in the US MSM for halting the “Buy America” clause stating that Canada is threatening to take the US to World Trade court over it. I am wondering if the US will have to pay the billions they owe Canada in softwood lumber tariffs first. There should be some kind of warrant system. Oh sorry US there is an outstanding warrant for billions owed to Canada. You either pay it or the shipments of Canadian whole logs to be manufactured in the states, giving your country the manufacturing jobs with Canadian timber must be halted. Yes, put another Country in a false light before your President visits them, that way anything he says or does on our soil – no matter how outrageous will be portrayed in the MSM as righteous – after all we have become the enemy. I hope Harper has the balls to protect our resources.
Will the halo continue to shine after his 5 hour visit? The MSM will probably give him wings too.
sasquatch
“There is hope for the MSM yet…”
I don’t think so.
Exhibit A is your comment where you refer to two comedy shows as MSM. Yes, it has sunk so low. When comedy central has as much journalistic credence as CNN, NYT, and CBS, you know journalism has been the victim of a murder-suicide.
The best we can hope for is that he Presidency will one day be portrayed as an episode of the “Twilight Zone” The story about the great US food supply poisoning coupled with the impending switch to digital TV that caused a nation to vote for a man who believes he is either the savior of the world or the anti-christ-either belief promotes his agenda of destroying the World because his Father abandoned him. He is the type of person that purposely comes into a room with no windows that is packed to capacity with both his followers and enemies, impeccably dressed, wearing cologne and speaking eloquently and then lets out the most putrid silent fart ever and then leaves the room locking the door behind him -not uttering a word with a huge smirk on his face.
Point taken ET
Many salespersons get promoted to management and fail miserably, others do quite well, but most will agree that the pay is better and the workload/stress is way lower in the sales game. Good and great salespeople will usually avoid the management trap.(waiters too)
wrt pre-9/11
I was referring to a comment in one of the liked articles. It is my opinion that the mind set of Americans is: there is no threat of casualties for Americans on the homeland; actually, it’s not even an American problem. This is what I refer to as a “pre-9/11” mindset. It is this mindset that enabled Americans to seriously consider BO as a Presidential candidate. People serious about national security who weren’t going to vote for a Republican would have voted for Billery had they felt fear for their own hides. Very serious people would have voted for McCain regardless of party but I digress.
So yes, GWB’s exceptional job in the war opened the door for BO in the first place, had there been the perception of threat in America BO would not have gotten the nomination, and Billery would have benefited from the economic crisis that hit long after the One was chosen.JMO
indiana homez – thanks. I see your points and agree.
Here’s a nice commentary from The Ace, on Obama’s ‘Never Ending Campaign’.
NeverEnding Campaign
Obama, as a narcissistic Salesman, has only one agenda: To Make You Do What He Wants.
He’s totally, completely disinterested in the content of policies and programs; indeed, as the blog points out, Obama’s current policies are in direct contradiction to this campaign pledges.
Slublog, the author, points out that “Obama’s actions now show just how deceptive he was then. On the campaign trail, Obama repeatedly lied to the American people about his economic plans. He lied about his commitment to clean, transparent government. He lied about his willingness to work in a bipartisan fashion.”
“Obama is not even pretending he meant what he said then.
In only three weeks, Obama has managed to undermine many of the central tenets of his claim to represent hope and change. He has gone from promising to bring “an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas…” to using arguments like “I won,” and the worn-out campaign rhetoric he threw to the Democrats last night.”
These are pretty strong criticisms and they aren’t occurring on the campaign trail but a mere two and a half weeks after Obama’s inauguration.

P.S. I went to your website, very entertaining and enlightening.
how many ways can you say f**king idiot.
Here’s more on Obama’s strategy of persuasion, which includes his trio of:
Misinforming the public
Manipulating the public via hope and fear
Accusing anyone who criticizes him as doing so out of bias, bigotry, partisanship.
A part of the third tactic is Obama’s assertion that ‘I won’. This shows him as The Power and you as Without Power.
These are attributes of a unilateral Sovereign, not of a democratic leader, nor a democratic leader of the USA whose constitution locates power not in any leader but firmly in the hands and minds of its citizens.
Here’s Rich Lowry of the National Review Online
I Won
Lowry writes
“Obama, a reputed master of the persuasive art, has settled on his central argument for the stimulus bill: I won.
That Obama is reduced to this crude appeal is a symptom of the intellectual collapse of the case for his stimulus bill, a congressional spendfest untethered from its stated goal of providing a rapid “jolt” to the economy.
As far as political arguments go, “I won” has its power—provided it’s made on behalf of an agenda ratified by the American electorate. But Obama didn’t campaign on a sprawling, nearly $1 trillion new spending plan.”
“When Barack Obama ran last year, he didn’t say he’d engage in faith-based economic policy on a grand scale. He didn’t say he’d toss aside the normal processes of governing. He didn’t say he’d quickly act to add waste to the federal budget. And he didn’t say he’d try to brush away criticism with the mere assertion of his victory. On the stimulus, when Obama says “I won,” he’s out of better arguments”.
Rich Lowry writes in the National Review OnLine

That Obama is reduced to this crude appeal is a symptom of the intellectual collapse of the case for his stimulus bill, a congressional spendfest untethered from its stated goal of providing a rapid “jolt” to the economy.
In a meeting with congressional Republicans, he brandished “I won” as a defense of his version of tax relief. But he later used “I won” to push back against an excessive reliance on tax cuts, claiming that it had been repudiated during the campaign even though he talked every day on the trail of cutting taxes for “95 percent of working people” and never once mentioned a commitment to extreme deficit spending.

Again, Obama is not interested in the policies and programs; he has no ability to analyze them for their effects. His interest is in asserting his control over you. He won’t attempt this by reason but by:
Misinformation
Manipulation using Hope and Fear
And, if you disagree, accusing you of bias, bigotry, partisanship.
Obama is not a democratici leader; he’s acting as a Supreme Sovereign whose Word is The Will. He is ignoring the basic foundation of American democracy, enshrined in their Constitution by the words ‘We, the People’. Power in the USA rests with the people. Not a Sovereign.
I once worked for a narcissist and, yes, ET, Obama certainly seems to fit the bill: outwardly attractive, accomplished and seemingly confident–but that’s only as long as everyone goes along.
As you’ve said, watch out once that stops happening. Narcissists do not have a moral compass–other than “what makes ME feel in control”. In my experience, once that stops happening they are willing to use anything to prop up their bruised ego and position: lying, cheating, belittling, changing the rules, picking favourites and isolating/persecuting opponents–you name it. And they are blatant liars and cheaters: a more rational person would say, “I’ll get caught. I’ll be seen to be a manipulator.” Not so the narcissist. When caught out, this person usually resorts to even bigger, more outrageous posturing and preening: not at all pretty to watch–or experience.
At least Obama’s under a microscope. He’ll continue to be deluded–that’s a permanent aspect of the disorder–but, as his behaviour becomes more dictatorial and less pleasant, more and more people will be disillusioned. But, whatever happens, I believe he’s a dangerous man, way out of his depth on all counts.
lookout – that’s a perfect description of a narcissist, and in my view, Obama does have that personality neurosis. And he’s not a mild case but severe.
And as you point out, when denied this assurance and feeling of Control over others, the individual can turn malicious and dangerous. As you say, they are pathological liars; they seem unable to differentiate between truth and a lie; their only agenda is to control you. And yes, they’ll resort to persecution, changing the rules and, if they have the power, prosecution.
As you also point out, there’s no cure; Obama will continue to be deluded but to have the kind of power that Obama has makes him an extremely dangerous person.
At the moment, he’s trying to get his first major bill passed. I think he’s shocked that people are examining and critiquing it; he’s not used to this and finds it totally unacceptable. He’s a Sovereign; you do as he says – immediately.
What’s next? The increase of and the widespread open and very perceptive commentary against Obama’s tactics is quite something to observe. How will Obama react? He’s not used to putting himself in a situation where criticism can even reach him. He rejects criticism; he reacts angrily to it as it makes him feel, psychologically, that he’s losing control over you.
So far, his reaction to ‘the people’ exercising their duty and right to review, debate and analyze ‘his’ stimulus package is ..that he objects to their doing so. He is threatening them with economic catastrophe if they carry out this task. He is insisting that they abandon their elected duty, abandon their constitutional rights that put power in the hands of the people…and insisting that they do only what HE says.
What will happen next?
Krauthammer: ” … He inexplicably delegated the writing [of the stimulus bill] to Nancy Pelosi and the barons of the House. The product, which inevitably carries Obama’s name, was not just bad, not just flawed, but a legislative abomination. …”
I’m not clear why Charles Krauthammer finds this inexplicable. Count on it: Obama will have all of his policies, bills, etc. articulated and written by others because he’s incapable of doing it himself. He has nothing in his background as “a community organizer” (well, whopee: I suppose I could be called “a community organizer” if you look at a lot of the things I’ve done in my past — as an unpaid volunteer) which qualifies him to propose policies or put them down on paper.
I’ll bet he lets others vet all of the materials that cross his desk because he just doesn’t have the knowledge of governmental, legislative, military, or international affairs needed to make judgments about what is viable and what isn’t.
This guy scares the H*ll out of me. I totally agree with ET’s assessment of Obama. He’s a supreme narcissist who presents well — like a salesman (‘good song title). But that’s about it. And I’ve always found, as has lookout, that working with such a person is actually dangerous, because they do whatever they have to, in order to to hide their incompetence. Their opinion of themselves is so important (and vulnerable), that anyone who detects — or calls them on — the cracks in the facade must be ruthlessly put down.
Two weeks in and he’s already shown how unprepared he is to be POTUS. The boot-licking MSM is now going to have to work overtime to make the Big-O look good in order to cover up THEIR incompetence.
As for the rest of us? We’re stuck on the sidelines pointing our fingers, shouting, “The POTUS hasn’t any clues!”
ET asks, “What will happen next?” For sure, Obama will dig himself deeper and not help his country one iota—because that’s not his aim.
On the topic of narcissists: I was APPALLED at Barak and Michelle’s juvenile behaviour the other day when they visited a grade school class. While serious opposition to all kinds of Obama blunders was rising that day, they’re quoted:
“We were just tired of being in the White House,” the president candidly told the gleeful second-graders at Capital City Public Charter School.
“We got out! They let us out!” Mrs. Obama said as the kids and their teachers laughed.
What juvenile, egotistical, anti-authority tripe. Unfortunately, the immature Obamas—and their equally immature supporters in the MSM and the elites—are not able to discern that their behaviour is entirely inappropriate.
It’s going to be a l-o-o-o-o-ng, probably disastrous, four years.
Another analysis of Bam Bam at NY Times (Feb 03 209) if anyone dares to go there.
‘Well That Certainly Didn’t Take Long” by Maureen Dowd.
Should be subtitled ‘how walking the talk isn’t as easy as talking the walk’.
Heh.
Just with reference to dolly’s post @7:18am.
Although I’ve been a fervent reader of this blogsite for a month or so, I’ve made a point of avoiding comments so far, (Ok, so once..), to objectively observe and get a feel for the numerous posters to this site, and I must say, there are alot of great ones, as well as the usual peckerhead trolls.
Like many of you, I’m amazed at the adulation afforded the annointed 0ne by the clamouring masses and the lack of critical analysis by the MSM. The lovefest is astonishing, but I predict (hope) it will be short-lived…
But back to what dolly was saying (and I can’t believe its the first time I’ve seen it mentioned). For the heck of it, I often listen to late-nite radio and catch ‘Coast-to-Coast’. Now some of their stuff is quite informative, a lot of it is REALLY off the wall- but entertaining nontheless. There have been more than a few whackos predicting the arrival of the Anti-Christ. According to them, this dude will come in riding a wave of exhuberant adulation and euphoria and will hoodwink the populace, media, politico, etc into believing HE IS THE WAY and they will willfully and blindly follow the great Messiah, abandoning any vestiture of objectivity or reason. Only too late will they realize they have been stupidly duped. There is also reference to a ‘dark-skinned man’ and the ‘blue turban’ thing and many references to the ‘NEW WORLD ORDER’. Anyone have any ideas on the blue turban reference?
Just in case you get the wrong impression, I don’t subscribe to these predictions, only that I find them somewhat intriguing. I prefer the path of Christian teachings- not knowing whence or how.
ET, lookout.

Which Conservative would those be? Certainly it isn’t Harper and CPC, their spending plan mirrors Obama. The last fiscal Conservative we had was some goombah named Chretien. Harper has sold his morals, ethics and politics out for holding onto power, which according to Real Conservatives is what EVIL LIEBRALS do.
Oh by the way guys, Madam Kate, any comment on Harper bailing out on his Law Suite against the Liberals over the Check Cadmann affair? The blogging tories have been mighty quite on that point.
Enjoy your weekend guys. Oh, btw, I would love to hear the rational about Harper having more in common with Obama and Dems again, and then hear launch into another scree about the evils of the Big O-man ~smirk~

Talk about “smirk”. I’m doing a lot more than that . . . Why doesn’t this person come back when he/she is able to state his/her case coherently?
Since Obama’s earnest drive to convince the nation to weaken its economic strength through redistribution as well as weaken its national defense, has confirmed the very threats to our Republic’s survival that the Constitution was designed to avert, it no longer is sustainable for the United States Supreme Court and Military Joint Chiefs to refrain from exercising WHAT IS THEIR ABSOLUTE CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY TO DEFEND THE NATION FROM UNLAWFUL USURPATION. The questions of Obama’s Kenyan birth and his father’s Kenyan/British citizenship (admitted on his own website) have been conflated by his sustained unwillingnes to supply his long form birth certificate now under seal, and compounded by his internet posting of a discredited “after-the-fact” short form ‘certificate’. In the absence of these issues being acknowledged and addessed, IT IS MANIFEST THAT OBAMA REMAINS INELIGIBLE TO BE PRESIDENT UNDER ARTICLE 2 OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION. Being a 14th Amendment “citizen” is not sufficient. A “President” MUST BE an Article 2 “natural born citizen” AS DEFINED BY THE FRAMERS’ INTENT.
