Hey, I was just talking about root causes to ET. There you go, root cause of S.A. gang bangers getting bit in the @ss is the hyena gang being walked too close to the baboon gang.
Wonder how these guys make out at the doggie park, eh? At least they are being good citizens about the leash laws.
Kate, that has to be THE strangest photo I’ve ever seen! It almost looks like something right out of the mind of one of George Lucas’ movies!!!
Mos Eisley space port. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. Well, except Johannesburg.
Nice one Phantom, I’ve noticed you are somewhat of a Menace.
And people wonder why the continent of Africa is, for the most part, such an economic, educational, cultural and political basket case.
The West can pour in $Aid by the river full but until the societies reform from the inside out, the mess will just get worse.
Nice to hope that someday Africa can recover from its self-inflicted wounds, get its act together and become a significant contributor to the greater human good.
Hope for Change.
Yes We Can.
Heh. I remember when you first published this photo several years ago Kate! I think back then you only had the simple caption of: Discuss.
But as Bono and that other guy, Bob Geldof say:
Let’s pour tons of money into Africa and then forgive their debt 10 years later! Yeah! That’ll do it!
Maybe they should be putting pumpkin helmets on their baboons and hyenas. Now that’d be a great picture.
Geez, I feel sorry for the animals (the ones on four legs).
Jeeeez!! What is that? Liberals headed to the leadership convention?
Have no worrys folks. Under liberal immigration laws that a minority conservative govt. dosn’t dare change, we will soon bring these fine fellows to a city near you, preferably Toronto but quite possibly Calgary, so they can resume shooting innocents and the little petulant sneering leftie liberal mayor of Calgary can blame Ed Stelmach instead of the assh..e liberals, he so loves, who were responsible for bringing in the scum of the earth as long as they voted liberal. Yea Dave quit blaming everyone but your heros Jean and Peeair, they were the cause of your problems, but then your a liberal, history begins every morning for you clowns.
I thought it was your garden variety inner city thugster’s weaponized pitt bulls until I looked closer.
My opinion on the root causes is simple, a lack of personal responsibility with marginalized males from dysfunctional macho male cultures being the most vulnerable. With macho being the operative word.
When I worked in a maximum security prison for a year most of the gang banger lifer’s had adequate intelligence. They had simply chosen to commit acts that were anti-social and violent. Every day was the same clean slate that we all have when we get up and they made their choices for that day. All that really matters is that simple small time frame when it comes to criminal behavior as all that leads up to and follows that act of violence is moot. It was pretty straightforward. Poverty is a bogus factor.
Jislaaik, kyk hierrie goffels aan! Bobejaane, hyenas, en nogal ‘n aap of twee!
OK, seriously, kom ons bly tjoepstil. Delarey Delarey!
Hmmmm…Those schnauzers look like hyenas in drag. I’d say something about the baboon but that might be mistaken as being tasteless.
He he he……………
I don’t think the MSM or the liberal elites are going to appreciate SDA exposing gang warfare in south central Los Angeles!
bartinsky said: “Under liberal immigration laws that a minority conservative govt. dosn’t dare change, we will soon bring these fine fellows to a city near you, preferably Toronto but quite possibly Calgary…”
bart, I don’t think those hyenas are going to make out too well in Calgary. A little cool on the made-for-the-savanna tootsies, know what I mean? The lads will probably try to trade them in for wolverines.
Man, I’d pay money to see that.

kate… isn’t there some pithy maxim about… “bringing a hyena to a baboon fight”?
no? that’s just me, huh?

good thing i don’t pay for my bandwidth.

Penny, I agree with you.
Although there are, of course, random criminals running around bonking people on the head to get their money, by the time you’re a part of a gang you are organized crime.
And it’s important to understand that gangs area culture.
A gang is a society and a lifestyle. All your friends are in the gang. Your money comes from the gang, you are protected by the gang, and sometimes your legal fees are generated by the gang. Your importance in the community is because you’re with somebody. Your prestige comes from distinguishing yourself in the gang. You swell with pride when your loyalty to the gang is acknowledged.
You have a clothing syle (whether you’re John Gotti with his $3000 silk suits or a gang banger conspicuously wearing red or blue). The mannerisms you affect to outsiders and insiders are what’s cool with the gang. The slang you use — on and on and on.
It’s a culture and a society and a way of life.
Down here after several successful penetrations of the Mongols OMG the courts declared it illegal to be a Mongol.
That’s right. They just said it’s illegal to be one. So now that piece of organized crime has been extremely and perhaps permanently disrupted.
Some of the fully patched-in members will jump over to some other OMG. Some will simply quit the biker lifestyle. Some will try to continue their criminal activities on their own but no longer will be part of a protective organization. And some will do their time and just decide that the liabilities are too great to operate in an OC organization.
When you try to think about how to defray the activities of these criminals, you have to remember that it’s like trying to figure out how you’re going to defray the activity of a government sponsored criminal regime.
So you’re not just busting criminals, you’re trying to figure out how to go against a criminal empire. For example, Hamas is just a large, organized criminal organization functioning inside a frightened population who generally agrees with them.
They’re not unlike Capone’s Chicago or even, perhaps, Rizzuto’s Montreal if you factor in the increase in soldiers and the use of more advanced weaponry.
Look on the bright side, this is africa after all
statistics say the 4 legged creatures in the picture will all probably outlive the two legged creatures by a few years!

That seems to be a fairly broad brush you are painting gangs with.
Look at the Indo imitation gansta rappa gangs that Vancouver deals with for example (special police task forces and all). Murder and mayhem by day, at home and tucked in their suburbia beds at night. Even free dental check-ups monthly by dad.
Knight 99, I understand what you’re saying.
In New York City it is a common practice to join one of the street gangs when you are a teenager. You and your buddies do robberies, beat people up, and have fights with other gangs over territory. You go home at night, have dinner with the family, and go to Mass on Sunday.
However, when you start to go beyond the high school years, if you’re lucky you start getting tapped by one of the organized crime families. And this is a really prestigious thing.
“Hey, Salvatore made it, man. He’s with the Columbos.”
So in a lot of cases the street gangs can act as farm teams for more sophisticated organized crime families.
I’m sure that this happens in Montreal. I don’t know how it works in Vancouver.
greg in dallas – that’s a really excellent analysis. Really great. As both you and penny say, the gang realm is most certainly not about poverty. It’s a culture, a way of life, that incorporates an economy, a political mode of authority, its own legal system, family and kin ties and so on.
The social services types who talk about ‘poverty’ and ‘if only’ they had more money they wouldn’t be in the gangs are living in a fictional world.
The gang realm starts you out as a member at a very young age, while our ‘normal culture’ doesn’t let you participate in the mainstream economy until you are post-university, in your late 20s and even later. For a gang culture, that’s old age. The gang culture starts you in your early teens; it’s high risk but it is economically lucrative and socially supportive.
What has to be done, is NOT more basketball courts (the answer of people like David Miller here in Toronto) or more schooling. But, to make that gang culture high risk. Very high risk. Your example of making it illegal is one step.
Here in Canada, you can get arrested for the break-and-enter, car stealing, beating up, even homicides..and you are back on the street in a few days or months. Therefore, this culture in Canada is not risky; it’s very lucrative.
And with regard to your Hamas example, it’s very common for a political ideological group to turn to crime once the ideology gets less successful – see the ex-communist drug dealers in Latin America, and the Taliban and Al Qaeda are moving into crime rather than ideological agendas.
Nice post. Thanks.
Who was the lucky one that got to put a chain around the hyena’s necks?
I mean ‘hyenas’ necks.
Nice post, Greg. You’ve been doing some homework on the subject.
Thanks, ET — I don’t believe we’ve exchanged posts for a while, so Happy New Year!
The way that marijuana became a part of ordinary adolescent life in the 1960s was when white kids with political ideologies got thrown into jail with black kids who had criminal ties.
The next thing you knew, you had a big association with people in the radical student underground with close ties to black criminals who could supply them with various kinds of narcotics.
Radical student politicians made affiliations with the Hell’s Angels OMG with the idea of “Hey, we’ve got our own fascists,” and tried to use the Hell’s Angels as an alternative to police forces. (This sort of turned on them, because most of these Hell’s Angels were disgruntled veterans with a sort of seedy patriotism.)
The Shining Path started out as an ideological movement and now guards cocaine cartels.
Different Los Angeles gangs now have ties with various South American political organizations who use narcotics as part of their income stream.
I know I don’t have to say anything about Al Qaeda deriving some of its money in the opium protection business.
Right now there is not one South American country that is not in either the manufacturing, distribution or transportation phase of narcotics with the help of various organized crime setups in North America. (Rizzuto’s family ties to South America are well known.)
Most of our politicians feel that politics is the art of compromise, and you have to go along to get along. And as a consequence, law enforcement is selective about who they go after and how.
In Texas we now have highly trained paramilitary Mexican teams committing crimes on this side of the border. Sometimes they are hired by Mexican gang syndicates in Texas contracting out labor.
I could go on, but needless to say, the underside of North American life looks a lot different from the bright Democratic picture we display.
“Mos Eisley Space Port. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. Well, except Johannesburg.” And the Democrat-controlled US Congress, aided and abetted by quite a few RINOs.
Thanks, ET. If poverty was the issue why are the majority of gang banger’s equally poor cohorts not criminals? I’m so sick of the liberal stupidity of excusing bad behavior as rooted in poverty. A lot of us have poverty stricken histories. As an Irish-American by ethnicity I never heard of males in my once poor immigrant extended family devolving into predatory criminal thugs because they were poor. Anyone ever notice a similar volume of crime sprees committed by poor Indian or Chinese immigrants?, hardly. Poverty is a bogus excuse.
From the First to the Third World the lion’s share of violence and crime are committed by the usual suspects, African males acting out tribal macho impulses. Ditto for Arab terrorists. Culture and poverty may make depravity easier, but, that still isn’t an excuse.
It’s like the nightly carbeques in France which reached over 11,000 on New Year’s Eve(the “tradition” in Liberal speak is up 30% from last year), the lame liberal press and elites simply refuses to call it for what it is and it’s why France’s lefty wimpy boys will be colonized by a tribal macho culture more thuggish. http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1869392,00.html
After a term with our black liberal Messiah in the WH as a role model I’m wondering what the next excuse the African-American community and our self-deceived white liberals will use when it’s clear the crime stats stay the same. As the French socialist’s are reaping what they’ve sown, we either remove the sociopath from society or surrender to them.
As I said, you get out of bed every morning and the script for the day is your choice. It’s the take away lesson I learned in my stint working in a maximum security prison.
Thanks, phantom. And they wonder why I’m pro-gun?
Incidentally, if you want to know how to eliminate 70% of crime and shrink prison populations by 70%, I can tell you right now.
1. Keep Dad in the home. Stop having kids out of wedlock.
2. Once and for all, get a handle on the dope problem.
If either of these 2 things could be accomplished we would wake up and feel as if we were living in a virtually crime-free society.
But as Bono and that other guy, Bob Geldof say:
Let’s pour tons of money into Africa and then forgive their debt 10 years later! Yeah! That’ll do it!

My dear boy/girl, you’ve missed the full Geldoffian grandiloquence which, roughly from memory, went: “We must do something … even if it doesn’t work.”.
Which I believe is pretty close to that popular definition of insanity and, I believe, is quite possibly one of the funniest lectures we’ve ever received from a pop-grandee.
What?? No one is screaming RACISM in the comments yet?
Could it be that we’re… winning??
Where is PETA?
Jema, the PETA rep is the one in the center foreground who’s chained and muzzled.
Hi penny: Nice to have you back!
re: your carbeque comment (here and on another thread) one of the accounts I read used the phrase “no major incidents”. No really. So I guess it’s now considered routine. 11,000 cars torched, but I guess it went pretty smoothly eh?
ET: Nice comment about risk. If I’m not mistaken, Canada is known around the world as a very low-overhead place to do big crime biz where the occassional punishments meted out are perceived as licence fees.
Posted by: penny at January 6, 2009 6:10 PM>
“It’s the take away lesson I learned in my stint working in a maximum security prison.”
I’m sure that would be the reality check anyone could understand if given the opportunity!
I agree whole heartedly with both you and Greg in Dallas that gang behavior/mentality/existence is a much wider multiple issue than simply poverty! Actually poverty is most probably the lamest and most false excuse the liberal left can throw out. Of course it’s the number #1 reason to solicit funding to their “cause”.
“Anyone ever notice a similar volume of crime sprees committed by poor Indian or Chinese immigrants?”
Actually I would say yes, at least on this side of the border, especially in the western Canadian provinces which are predominantly Asian immigration hotspots. The difference is of course that most of the 1st generation Asian families have been skilled or wealthy in the past. Their second generation middle class brats play Miami Vice in their fast cars and have brought murder, drive-by shootings and all kinds of atrocities to our streets. There are of course the well established drug triad’s that have overtaken the HUGE marijuana industry in BC by storm, namely Vietnamese gangs, but the Indo Asian gangs have been a serious plight. …………Simply goggle Vancouver Indo gangs.
I don’t know allot about the predominance of black Caribbean gangs in places like Toronto, although it seems to be a huge issue that the MSM likes to downplay or hide. Canada will also not publish crime statistics by race or ethnicity as you do in the US. The point being that they feel that we are not worthy to discern collected data or facts to make our own decision as to whether or not certain cultures in our midst may be predisposed to harm us.
Could someone please provide some information on the photo?
that is one of the strangest photos I have ever seen…
In the backgroung we see signs of modernity or western civilization; a paved street, a car, an ad for a car on a billboard…
but the people and the type of animals they keep in leaches do not fit the background at all…
as if someone had used a time machine to bring them from 2008 BEFORE Christ.
Friend of USA – so you’ve never been to Nigeria, mate?
Are they really pet hyenas?? Incroyable!
And we are bothered about pitbulls and strays.
What stops teh dog-like critters going after the baboons – apart from the baboons’ superior intelligence.
I notice it is the (two) younger boys that have baboons as pets. I must show this to Paco.
It’s all image. 300 years off the boat and the culture hasn’t changed a bit.
The same type of behaviour can be seen in south central LA or inner city Detroit -except there, its it’s the size of the gun or the car that’s important. (hyenas are harder to come by!)
Africa is screwed by the cultures that inhabit it. Nigeria, Somalia, Zimbabwe et al…No amount of money will fix that.
My how the mighty have fallen. Once the revered Numidian Light Horse (under Maharbal) of the Carthaginian Republic, so decisively switching allegiance to Scipio, and sealing Hannibal’s fate at Zama.
Once the mighty vanguard of the Moslem Armies that conquered Spain.
Look at them now. So sad, a once mighty people reduced to this – petty thieving and gang rape. Maharbal wouldn’t even let these idiots sweep up his horses’ shite…
Posted by: bcf at January 6, 2009 9:30 PM>
Not to split hairs – But, the Numidian’s as I understand them were the ancient Berber tribes around modern day Algeria, the indigenous neighbors of the Phoenician Carthaginians.
A long way from the jungles of Nigeria, which seems to more or less have remained that way until the Portuguese colonized it and I believe the British traded through it and eventually ruled it. Regardless Nigeria has no nostalgic past, most certainly with western history and very much remains a completely tribal society, wearing western T-shirts and practicing everything from Christianity to Islam to voodoo.
The corruption, tribal taboos and human atrocities are little matched even in the modern third world. Western oil companies have brought limited wealth, and western goods but also a “real value” commodity to justify killing over. Local warlords and chieftains seek out the power of the country’s wealth with machine guns and rocket launchers instead of machetes and spears. Not a lot has changed in 10,000 years except the introduction of western technologies to do the job better.

“Hyaenas in the pet trade: Hyaenas are sometimes captured for sale in the pet trade in Africa, but this is most problematic in Asia. Contrary to what you might suspect based on their appearance as infants, hyaenas do not make good pets. They can be highly destructive of furniture and other objects in their immediate environment, and possess teeth and jaws that can also do a great deal of damage to their owners”
and no blog can be complete without a little bit of video footage of a man “being taken” by a hyena… ($25. a bargain!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odscX_3OFD0
What does literacy have to do with safe motorcycling? Not being able to read doesn’t mean you are too dumb to pound sand it means you can’t read.
Oh right root causes.
Memo to me: Root causes are what liberals declare you lack when they want to put you into a exploitable category for their personal gain.
‘Road safety authorities say almost every collision in Nigeria’s cities involves an okada.’
I used to have a Hodaka (google it) but I don’t think they sold in Afreaka…
I sure hope Hyenas don’t become popular around here. My neighbour’s barking dogs are bad enough, I don’t want to listen to one of those things. It might be fun to let them into my neighbour’s yard, and see how long it takes them to eat a couple of Labs.
they have a law?
I feel for the animals. The care they receive in those circumstances is undoubtedly much worse even than what occurs here.
Sure would like to get my mitts on one of those hyenas, though. What a unique animal. Even while we’re all on acreages, the neighbors would absolutely howl. There’d be a county hearing the same day the hyenas enjoyed an initial scavenging tour.
Penny: Poverty is a bogus factor? I suggest you read the book “In search of respect” by Philippe Bourgois. The author lived in a latin ghetto with crack dealers as an ethnography and wrote about his experiences.
So tell me again why the dumb niggers with pumpkins on thir heads are any different from the white harley fags that wear beanie helmets?
heh I post em you toast em…

They can be highly destructive of furniture and other objects in their immediate environment, and possess teeth and jaws that can also do a great deal of damage to their owners”
and no blog can be complete without a little bit of video footage of a man “being taken” by a hyena… ($25. a bargain!)
