Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
That may be the best collection of Canadian Juniors I’ve ever seen. Every one of them was skilled, strong on the puck, and they all played as a team. Great coach in Pat Quinn, too.
Drive for Five mission accomplished.
Time for a Six Pack!
Can’t wait for Saskatoon!!!
Met some Sask people at the game last night who were there to “observe” because they are hosting the Juniors next year….very nice people, but, I’m just not sure they’re going to remember alot about last night….I know I’m not and I got in a cab before they did….:) Trust me..the TV could not do the atmosphere in that building justice.
Koo-ROO-koo-koo-koo-koo-koo-koo!
(Our American friends will likely need a Hoser of a certain vintage to explain that reference.)
My 7 and 9 year old boys are already arguing about who gets to be Jordan Eberle when we play road hockey.
Heck of a run up to last nights game — down 3-0 to the U.S.. That game had more excitement in the first period, than most games have period. Down a goal to the Russians, and scoring with 5 seconds left. Every year it seems something memorable happens. Way to go boys.
Jordan Eberle, Cody Hodgson, PK Subban, Tavares, Angelo Esposito . . . What a team, what a game!
Nice flopperoos by the Swedish goalie, by the way.
Yeah Mississauga Matt, Markstrom was playing soccer out there, not hockey 😉
On paper the swedes were a much better team. But in hockey at least Sweden exceeds Canada in mediocrity – the Swedes played awful last night and physically played as if they were all each 20lbs lighter than the Cdn squad when in fact they were a much bigger team.
Good to great effort by the CDN team – lots of stupid penalties in the second that were they playing the Ruskies they would have paid dearly for. Our goalie played the best game of his life whilst the usually stellar swede goalie was too busy practicing his soccer dives…
Congratulations to Team Canada, they are very fine examples of classy, talented, young Canadian men. They made us all proud of each and everyone of them. As for Markstrom, I think the term “drama queen” would fit him better!
I think they USA Hockey VP said it best in the Q&A:
“Why does Canada perform so well in these tournaments year after year?
Johannson: It amazes me and I have nothing but respect for their program as a whole. They have managed to turn the pressure of high expectations into an energy that fuels their team. They have some extremely talented players every year and the top players have elevated their team to an unprecedented string of success. They are the measuring stick now and until we beat them consistently, we have to admire and respect the job they are doing.”
Great Game & great tourney, Congratulations to the Team, organizing committee’s & all of the Volunteers.
I like what one of the tsn announcers said about markstom Something along the line of, Florida has there work cut out for them to Keep him in the net.
Whats with the G&M reporter bashing The PM over his interview, good greif if he had of said his sons game over the Can/Russ game they would be all over him for that, Anything to critique the PM it was about the series Not the PM’s interview.
Yup, it’s Gold again, great show guy’s
I enjoyed the PM on TSN before the game as part of the panel. Can you imagine a Layton, Iggy, Dion or any other of those clowns partaking so effortlessly? Harper is a regular guy, and the newsmedia hates him for that.
At the same time I was also watching the Corner Gas repeat episode that was the parody of the ’72 Summit Series with Brett and Karen playing table hockey. After Canada’s first empty net goal, I turned back to Corner Gas and at literally 2 seconds after the real-life goal, Brett scored the winning goal in the show with him playing the role of the ’72 Canadians. Serendipity.
8^)
I don’t know how Sweden lost this one, they had an extra player on the ice at all times….that short fella in the black and white striped shirt….
The Canadian/American and Canadian/Russian games were better.
“On paper the swedes were a much better team…”
As a Leafs fan I’ve learned over the years that “on paper” means shit when it comes to swedes.
Vancouver fans will find out soon enough with “The NHL Obama”. Sorry I mean Mats Sundin.
yeah whats with the Swedish goalie, it was a hockey game not the academy awards. He did the biggest dive when he got hit by a yellow sweater.
‘On paper the Swedes were a much better team.’ Gord Turk said, and continued with the fact that the Canadians won with conviction! Why? I think our Prime Minister said it best, ‘the Canadian team has ‘Heart’. I have watched MANY hockey games from the ‘wee, wees’ to the ‘oldtimers’ as I am an older hockey sister (which means I drove my little brothers to/from hockey and watched all the games – even when I didn’t have to be there!- and later drove myself TO the games) I have seen ‘heart’ beat ‘skill’ many times. I think those 22 young Canadians played with the skill that results from having a ‘lot of heart’. Congratulations to all the players and their coaches. GREAT game – I was cheering in the living room (out loud!).
5in a row, WOW!
I think we should be sending hockey spies to Slovakia, just in case.
They had a very good series. It seems that in the past 5 years Canada has put the best of coaching, training and young hockey players on the ice. They represent Canada with honor and integrity. Congrats to the young players, may their future be bright.
Excellent game by our guys, but I do think the Swedes had the better actors.
I heard Markstrom trained with the Italians:

Yeah, saw them play. Great team, and congratulations!
