The Chicago Candidate

Off to a good start…

I don’t believe the evidence will support any accusation that Barack Obama was involved with Blagojevich’s alleged seat-for-sale scheme, but Obama is doing himself NO favors by lying about any element of this matter. There would be nothing wrong with Obama having spoken with the governor, and that’s what Obama should have said today – that he discussed possible candidates with Blagojevich, but had no idea that the governor was making plans to auction off the Senate seat to the highest bidder.
Lying is never a good idea. It’s an especially bad idea when the person who has just been arrested apparently hates you, and would likely love to see you taken down with him. Plus, this sort of pointless lie just fuels the flames for those who are looking for reasons to discredit you and shame you. It makes their job awfully easy.

  1. But Kate, truth comes so hard to a politicians lips.
They tell so many untruths that they get all tangled in it.

  2. Do not forget that Obama was born of the Chicago politics so he has his skeletons but certainly more leverage than his associates. Not telling the truth as nothing to do with with lying if you you are in politics and a measly little govener is not going to stop the Obama train. Let the little stains and strains add up and Hillary will be facing off against Palin in 2012 because Obama will gracefuly resign due to family commitments.

  3. There are 3 million people in Chicago and there are 3 million stories in it.
    This is one of them.
A really juicy, naked one and its gonna get juicier!

  4. This as an affront to the people who put their trust in a politician. I doubt the FBI would make an arrest without a very convincing evidence to convict Blagojevich and his partner. Now how far this is going to implicate ‘Resident Evil Obama’ and how much the FBI will be released?.

  5. well, well, well . . . slope, meet slippery.
The Big O is at his best and its all downhill from now.
    What a good start.

  6. I’ve read the article and am trying to figure out what party he represents. For some odd reason it’s not mentioned very often.

  7. Obambam
has just reistated most of clintons henchmen/women, now he is also emulating the waggin willy, got to wonder if Monika has a younger sister, as me thinks the big M is a little older and heavier, and the BLUE DESS would now be a little out of date and probably no longer the right size.

  8. uh..did all of this come as a surprise to you guys? Dude’s been under investigation for like 2 years and Obama actually gets a big boost when our little mayor is recorded complaining that Obama won’t “play ball” and “won’t give me nothin’ but appreciation for what I done….
Funny thing is, Obama actually pressured the state of Illinois to change a law with the direct result of da mayor goin’ down. Obama can’t look partisan, so he’ll maybe take down another crooked dem or two, but with this bit of nastyness out of the way, all he gotta do is start indicting some republicans…kind of a target rich enviroment if ya know what I mean.
Can’t wait to see cheney and rumsfeld and rove and the rest on the dock. Gona be a sweet bit of justic comin’ our way.

  9. Kate and Katie,
You’re both s t r e t c h i n g too much. If you were to read the transcripts with an open unbiased mind you’d realize the folley of your theory.

  10. “Can’t wait to see cheney and rumsfeld and rove and the rest on the dock. Gona be a sweet bit of justic comin’ our way.”
I wouldn’t mind that either. With normal standards of evidence and all accusers under oath before an unbiased jury. Of course, what is more likely is a DC jury that has already convicted them before the first piece of evidence is heard with the trial selectively reported by the same media that fans the accusations.
Welcome to the “righteous wind” (–Credit Chairman Mao who said it first, next time you use it, Obama) of socialism. Show trials. It will be great.
However, a lie is a lie, and it is not like Obama has a sterling record of honesty to fall back on. For instance, Bill Ayers, after the election, backs up Sarah Palin’s version of that relationship, not Obama’s lie of “Just some guy in the neighborhood.”
These small lies add up, and one day, he is going to need the American people to believe him, and he will have squandered his credibility on these small lies used to get ahead.

  11. One more comment. If the Democratics hadn’t stolen the presidency from Nixon in 1960 in Chicago, the Viet Nam war likely never would have happened. Watergate? Why was Nixon so paranoid in the first place? Maybe after being robbed of the presidency, he was a little bit justified? Naah!

  12. Oh, sweet irony – a NY Times article on Blagojevich (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/10/us/10blago.html?partner=permalink&exprod=permalink):
    ————————
Whatever his current motivation, he came into office with a very different persona. As a young congressman representing the North Side of Chicago, Mr. Blagojevich was pegged as a rising star with a populist touch. Undistinguished as a lawmaker but with proven likability in and out of Chicago, he seemed hellbent on pushing reform and cleaning house in a state with an embarrassingly overt culture of political corruption.
Running on a do-good theme as a candidate of change, he swept into the governor’s office earlier this decade mainly on promises that he would be different, that he would restore integrity to the governor’s office after the previous chief executive, George Ryan, was sentenced to six and a half years in federal prison for racketeering and fraud.
“Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, Illinois has voted for change,” he told a crowd at his victory party on election night in 2002.

It’s change you can believe in!

  13. “If the Democratics hadn’t stolen the presidency from Nixon in 1960 the vietnam war never would have happened”
viet war was already happening in 1960. I have a friend who was shooting viet mihn in the delta in 1959- i think eisenhower sent him. they called him a airborne ranger “on special attachment to the CIA”. Yeah, nixon never woulda sent more advisors. Oh no. and nixon did such a bang up job with his “secret peace plan” that kept the war going for what…another 5 years, plus excalated into two other countries?
BTW, I noticed your fellow Vermonters went over 3 to one for obama. you must feel like you live in a state full of morons?
