  1. I don’t know about you but I’ve had just about enough of the ongoing Radical Left talking point that “Harper only got ‘37%’ of the vote so the other parties have more of a right to govern than he does.”
So I decided to compile historical voting data dating back to 1867. You can view it here. For those who really want to delve into it, I’ve even uploaded a spreadsheet which you can download.

  2. I should have posted this last night, but I caught the CBC news at 6 p.m. on Friday, and the two minutes or so on the terrorist attack in Mumbai included nothing whatsoever about who did it or might have done it, and what their motivations were or might have been. You’d think journalists with inquisitive minds might have been trying to find out? It sure looks like the CBC doesn’t do journalism any more.

  3. Robert W…
Thankyou for doing my homework…no one can argue now.
    But they WILL…
    Great program, VITRUVIUS, thank you!

“nv53 says… the two minutes or so on the terrorist attack in Mumbai
included nothing whatsoever about who did it”

c’mon… are you absolutely sure about that?
they must be slipping… nine times out of ten they blame it on that
    evil ‘oiljesus bush-hitler’.

  5. You’re most welcome, Bec. My research proved two critical things to me:
    1. The notion that political parties in Canada “normally” get over 50% of the vote is pure nonsense. If one wants to make the point that our political system needs to be altered after 141 years to better represent small parties then that’s one thing and a discussion about that should be had. But to twist this around to say that “the majority of Canadians voted against the party with the most seats” is disingenuous to the extreme. It’s the kind of argument an anarchist might make.
    2. Nowhere in our country’s federal electoral history is there any direct precedent for what the Liberals, NDP, & Bloc (who I’m appropriately calling “Le Cabal de Trois”) are discussing doing. The King-Byng Affair in 1926 is often cited. When someone says that, ask them specifically what are the commonalities between what occurred back then and what is occurring now. Prepare to grab something firmly anchored to the ground because you’re going to get a whole lot of S-P-I-N!!!
Perhaps there are other important points from this data that will show up to others.

  6. It’s too early in the morning to feel like throwing up, but when I flipped past the CBC this morning, they had duelling fools on; Mansbridge and Margolis. I heard Margolis claim that “the people in Mumbai were raising a number of issues”, and I almost threw the remote at the TV. These animals weren’t “raising issues”, they were KILLING PEOPLE.

  7. So, what do we think of Stephen Harper’s choice for next Supreme Court justice, Thomas Cromwell?
What’s that? You didn’t know that Harper has picked a new Supreme Court justice? Surprising, given all of the media coverage 😉
Let’s do a little due diligence on this guy, eh? Let’s not give him the automatic thumbs up like we did the last guy, who turned out to be a longtime kangaroo adjucator of kangaroo Human Rights Tribunals.

  8. I thank you also Robert W, there’s nothing to argue about facts. Perhaps we should tweak the Conservative headquarters to make these facts public in all the print media, we have the money to do it. Also, raise this fact with the likes of Duffy and Newman who seem to willingly let the Opposition away with pushing this nonsense and pure lies.
Looks like the war is on, Dipper Pat Martin said so. Let’s not let them away with spewing venom and skewing the facts.
It boggles the mind to understand why Conservatives are so slow to defend themselves against these attacks. We have to remember the media are happy to run with anything the opposition puts out.

  9. I do not know Justice Cromwell’s politics (when he had them/if he had them). Almost any practicing jurist in Nova Scotia has a liberal (if not Liberal) bent. That said, I know him as a person and former colleague; he is a hard working, thoughtful, decent, and very witty man.

  10. roseberry
a man’s politics is written on his forehead, is you kno not what they are then I must assume you realy don’t kno the man, you would then just be aquainted with him!!!!
BTW; women are usually a little hard to decipher as far as politics go, but generally they can be determined also with a little closer observation

  11. “No Bloc party here
Separatists cannot hold balance of power in Ottawa”
” And who is making it possible for separatists to invade the federal cabinet room?
    Liberals and New Democrats.”
” So what could the Bloc do if they played a role in a proposed coalition?
They could begin by demanding that Quebec get a substantially larger share of Canada’s fiscal pie.
They could demand that Quebec’s provincial government take over certain federal functions, those which fall under shared responsibility under the Constitution.
The Bloc could demand that the Clarity Act, which ensures that a clear question and a clear majority is necessary for any province to separate from Canada, be amended.
They could demand it be scrapped altogether.
The political manoeuvrings, schemes and strategies by the Bloc to advance their agenda to break up Canada would be endless should they ever get the foothold of power they seek through a coalition government.”

  12. “Manzanar”? What is that?
    …-
    First comment:
“They had better learn to hide, and quickly. I don’t know how many more incidents the world will take before someone, somewhere, pulls out the minutes of the Wannsee Conference and offers them as a “pretty good idea”.
In this country we’re more likely to be tempted to reopen Manzanar, and then only as a waypoint for repatriation to the ummah without regard for duration of US residency or on-paper citizenship.”

“No Time to Hide for Muslims
    Khaleej (DUBAI) Times ^ | 30 November 2008 | Aijaz Zaka Syed
Watching the terror nightmare unfold in Mumbai over the past three days with me on television, my kids have repeatedly asked me: “Who are these terrorists and why are they doing this?” And every time I wished I could offer them a convincing answer.
What could I tell them? For one, I was equally clueless why these guys had taken over India’s financial and cultural capital and were targeting people who had nothing to do with them and had done nothing to harm them.
For two, I was too ashamed to tell them these guys were ostensibly Muslims and came from a country that was created in the name of Islam.
At work, while my colleagues went about covering the madness in Mumbai and laying out special pages with the images of the incredibly beautiful hotel, Taj, with its Islamic arches and domes, go up in smoke, I find it hard to look my colleagues in the eye.
And this happens all the time. Every time innocents are targeted in the name of Islam around the world, one can’t face one’s non-Muslim friends and colleagues. I feel like burying myself in the ground. Growing up in a religious family, one never thought one would see the day when being a Muslim could be a source of shame.
A distraught friend who has devoted her life to speaking and fighting on behalf of Arabs and Muslims wrote in yesterday saying “I’ve had it with the Arabs and Muslims and Islamic militancy. Forgive me but I am throwing in the towel.”
I couldn’t write back to her but understood her pain. She grew up in Mumbai and is understandably upset.
My friend went on to say: “The Muslims and Islam have a problem and only they can solve it. If they do not, the whole world will turn against them.”
If this is how our most loyal friends feel, imagine the sentiments and reactions of the rest of the world. Can you blame the world if it’s turning against Muslims? What do you expect when not a single day passes without the name of our faith being dragged through the mud by fellow believers around the world?
How many innocents have to die in the name of Islam before Muslim leaders and countries take effective action to deal with the nuts, who are out to destroy us all with their nihilistic cult?”

  13. Scott Reid has said/written: “kill him. Kill him dead”. “First things first: take him out.”
Hate speech and more from Scott Reid and the Globe and Mail.
    “him” is Prime Minister Harper.
    Where is the RCMP?
Where is the Minister of Justice?

  14. Thank you again Vitruvius for another great selection. Haven’t heard Barry White in a coon’s age.
Thanks Robert W. for the info and spread sheet, saved it and when arguing with the neighbors, I will present this item. As we all know they will spin it because history starts every Monday!.
Thanks PiperPaul. Working on FireFox right now and just getting used to it.

  15. The Sentinel on the Hard-Left’s planned coup d’etat to wrest power from the duly elected government:
    http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2008/11/hard-left-parties-plotting-to-overthrow.html
Believe me, it’s worth checking out. The old B&W socialist revolution photographs alone are perfectly appropriate for the situation!
Oh, and I pull no punches… give them what they deserve, in classic Sentinel style… An excerpt:

The Left now wants Canada to copy the “marching-in-lockstep-with-Bush” world, suddenly wants PM Harper to do exactly what Bush is doing, to “march in lockstep with Bush”… after falsely accusing him of having been doing so, as if doing so was necessarily bad (apparently they don’t really think so after all!), not do what’s appropriate for Canada, who actually, we know full well, isn’t as badly off as the rest of the world, and which the Left wants it to be, so they can force communism onto Canada in a revolution apparently opposed by the Canadian People.

  16. Does the PM have to defend himself. Think if the NDP, Liberals and Bloc have to present a plan to the GG. I have not much doubt how the GG will go. The thing is this is being touted as an NDP-Lib coalition. The CBC never mentions the Bloc. If the Bloc isn’t on board they aren’t being promised enough. Six months of that and the electorate is going to punish the hell out of someone to ensure a majority. What does Quebec and Ontario want? Carbon tax and trading for starters. The Green Shift few want and they will wear it and the voters will pay.

  17. I discuss a thought-provoking CTV online poll which tries to make the blogs look irrelevant compared to the MSM:
A Convenient Poll For the Mainstream Media
    http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2008/11/convenient-poll-for-mainstream-media.html

I’d suggest that folks, for the Mumbai Islamic jihad attacks which apparently targeted mostly Westerners and Jews, had plenty of coverage to see in the MSM, for this time the MSM did its job. In this case, the blogs played only a tiny part of the coverage, though they certainly did their job, too.
    But don’t forget…
When the MSM refuses to cover something of utmost importance, the blogs suddenly take on a massive relevance, highlighting the increasing uselessness of the MSM.

  18. “The coalition (cabal) unmasked
Tim Powers, November 29, 2008 at 10:51 PM EST
My long-time debating partner Scott Reid has courageously unmasked the Cabal Government on this website. I encourage everyone to read Scott’s piece because, as he all but acknowledges, this is nothing but an unprecedented power-grab by the Liberals, NDP and the Bloc.
Scott’s advice to the opposition parties: “Their imperative could not be more clear: kill him. Kill him dead. Do not, whatever you do, provide him with an opportunity to extend his hold on power.”
Hmm. Yes, of course this debate is about stimulus and the direction the government has taken on the economy. Yup, it sure is. If you need any more proof that this is a reckless power grab by the coalition, read Scott’s article.
Not once does my friend counsel do what is best for the country. Nope. He advises them to stick the shive in their main political opponent. “Kill him. Kill him dead.””

  20. Devastating rebuttal by Mark Steyn to “Ryerson-atrophied pansy” Dr. John Miller

M J Murphy [aka Big City Lib] wrote: “I think you owe Dr. Miller an apology.” Au contraire, I think “Dr Miller” owes me and Oriana [Fallaci] an apology. Since he decided to go to such kinky lengths to catch my eye, he has accused me of failing to provide a source for a quote: False. He’s accused me of making up famous rulings of the Ayatollah: False. He’s declared flat out that there is no such thing as a Khomeini “Blue Book”: False. And people pay money to study “responsible journalism” with this guy? At least for his own ill-advised adventures in fact-checking, his unfortunate acolyte, M J Murphy of Toronto, isn’t charging cash.
If I were celebrated toilet photographer Warren Kinsella or leading Canadian Internet Nazi Lucy Warman, I’d sue. But I’m not. Nor, despite a flying visit to the Falklands and a couple of wet weekends in Wales, have I ever been attracted to sheep-shagging. But I imagine it feels a bit like dealing with Messrs Miller, Murphy and the Law R Cool kids: No matter how often you roger them senseless, they keep on bleating.

It’s a long read but has some laugh out loud bits.

  21. All bets off the table with the revelation that the NDP and Bloc had an agreement going on a coalition BEFORE the Economic Update was given!
See CTV and Bob Fife’s report.

  22. Big City Lib just got his back side handed to him by Steyn.
Not an entirely unexpected outcome, but this was not just a handing of butt, it was laying waste in the fashion of a H-bomb.
I love how the comments start out supporting BCL and then Steyn’s rebuttal gets linked and all the pro-censorship types just up and disappear.

  23. Just found this quote via the five footer, from Iowahawk,
“You and “Doctor” Miller have just immortalized yourselves as the bumbling self-inflicted subjects of the single most exquisite literary evisceration in the history of the internet, nay, the world.”

  24. Tories relent on public sector strike ban:
    By The Canadian Press
“OTTAWA – The Conservative government scrapped a second element of its economic update and advanced the federal budget date in a frantic bid to save itself from being toppled…”
Steve the Bully is still rolling around on the ground and begging for mercy after getting kicked in the nuts. Is there nothing that Big Stevie can’t undo?

  25. Good one Grandad!
Most big ciddy people don’t realize that about 70% to 80% of farms are in fact subsidized by the family off-farm income.
