Joe’s Fair Plumbing Act of 2008

Barack Obama discovers a leak under his sink, so he calls Joe the Plumber to come and fix it. Joe drives to Obama’s house, which is located in a very nice neighborhood and where it’s clear that all the residents make more than $250,000 per year. Joe arrives and takes his tools into the house. Joe is led to the room that contains the leaky pipe under a sink. Joe assesses the problem and tells Obama, who is standing near the door, that it’s an easy repair that will take less than 10 minutes. Obama asks Joe how much it will cost.
Joe immediately says, “$9,500.”
“$9,500?” Obama asks, stunned. “But you said it’s an easy repair!”

Heh.

Before he dies, Abdullah Awad bin Laden calls George H. to complain there’s a leak under his sink. Abdullah asks H. “how much to fix it?” H. ponders a few moments then replies, “300 billion US dollars.” Abdullah knows it’s a steep price but doesn’t even flinch at the price. Being an astute Arab and knowing the price is padded tells H., “I’ll give you the job but there’s something I want in return. H. used to doing business the American way just nods knowingly and says, “what ever it is I agree and I’ll put my best plumber on it right away.” W.’s phone rings, waking him out of a slumber at 10:00 AM. and says what he always says, “yes daddy I’ll do it.”

  6. Yeah Ted, it’s a right wing conspiracy. Those unethical data searches were authorized by a deep undercover RNC agent and “accidently” leaked to show that the Dems are evil and unsavory folks that will do anything to win an election.
Don’t choke on your koolaid, eh.

  7. Ted,
No, what’s funny is that you, many of Obama’s supporters, and a majority of the media completely and continually miss the point. It’s never been about “Joe the Plumber”. It’s always been about Obama’s “Spread the Wealth” belief.
I could care less if “Joe the Plumber” was a fraud artist. It doesn’t change the fact that there are millions of small business owners in the US that are in the same situation as the scenario Joe discussed with Obama. They are getting punished with a tax increase because they took the initiative, responsibilities, and risk of opening and operating their own business to improve their lives. And Obama believes that they should spread the wealth of their successes for those who don’t take that same initiative, responsibilities, and risk.

  8. From the comments on the Sean Hannity site:

LeftCoastLoony: “Joe the Plumber doesn’t service 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.”

I’m afraid that’s true. G. Gordon Liddy & Associates are the White House plumbers. One can only hope they’ll really do a number on Hussein in the last week of the campaign to forestall the possibility of Zero occupying the executive mansion.

  11. A guy is tossing a football with his kid in his front yard when a presidential candidate appears.
So, the guy goes up to the presidential candidate and asks a question.
Within three days, everything about his personal life dating back to kintergarten is revealed by the media.
It only took the media 18 months to dig up the public radio interview Obama gave where he slagged the intent of the US constitution.
    Private citizen bad.
Presidential candidate still walking on water.
Attack dogs hound the private citizen who merely asked a simple question.
    What’s wrong with this picture?

  12. What’s wrong with this picture?
    1. John McCain who made his life a living hell by turning a 5 second clip into the rock upon which a badly faltering campaign was to plant itself.
    2. “Joe” the “Plumber” who voluntarily jumped headlong into it – he’s campaigning with McCain and doing stump speeches with him and trying to make some money off of the fame too.
    3. An interesting story – let’s face it, regardless of which side he was a plant for, he’s got a pretty interesting life and this story is interesting.
    4. It turns out he’s fraud – not a licensed plumber, not about to buy a business, not even named “Joe” (it’s his middle name), etc.
    5. Some union folk who like to protect their turf (and probably support Obama) were ticked off that he said he was a plumber when he wasn’t and released private information about him, possibly illegally.
Cleared that up for ya, SYF?

  13. Would be even funnier if “Joe the Plumber” wasn’t also a fraud artist.

I didn’t kno that “joe the plumber” went to law school
or were you trying to say he is a “victum” like all the scumbags you defend!!!

  14. Oh, and I forgot the two really really really obvious ones, SYF:
    6. “Joe” the “Plumber” was on video – video images will always trump audio.
    7. He did it NOW, during the campaign, and not SEVERAL YEARS AGO.
What I’d like to know is why the media are ignoring all of the corruption in McCain and Palin’s history? If they covered the very real and very direct links between Palin and Troopergate or McCain and the Keating 5 and other corruption claims even a fraction of the time they have spent on very indirect, hyped-up, dated and convoluted links between Obama and a ciminal from the 1960s and an arms length organization, well US conservatives would be going down in even more flames than they would be.

  16. He’s not a fraud Teddy boy . He is a plumber . Lot’s of tradesmen in the U.S. operate without a licence administered by a faceless incompetent bureaucracy. I’m one of them . I also go by my middle name.
The only fraud on this thread is you .

  17. O-dog, joe-plumber and bush are on an airplane heading for a crash, and only 2 chutes available.
Bush says he’s served his country well and deserves one and jumps out. O says he’s the next messiah and deserves the other chute. Joe says that’s fair and before O jumps offers to fix his plumbing at the poor rate for a year in exchange for the chute. O agrees.

  18. What is wrong SYF did I nail your butt with that one?
You could always come up with another “Shut the F up” come back.
    Fool

  19. There is a comment just below the one with this story on that thread, by “freddy”:
“History will write that the Great Obama’s presidential campaign was brought down by a plumber in Ohio.”
It will be either funny or nothing, depending on who wins next tuesday.

  20. “Spoken like a true Republican.”
That’s your response? Sorry, I’m more libertarian.
And if that’s all you got out of my post, then you prove what I said: you continually and completely miss the point.
Explain how the situation and Obama’s statement would change if, according to you, Joe wasn’t a “fraud”?
It doesn’t. Obama’s answer wasn’t just directed to Joe the Plumber. It was directed to all successful small business owners in the US.

  21. Joe the plumber, must be a plumber to buy a plumbing business? I don’t think so. Is the head of “General Electric” or “Westinghouse” an electrician? no, they’re businessmen.
and if Joe the plumber, buys a plumbing business, that makes him a business owner, who must employ plumbers or indentured apprentices to do the actual work. So what’s the problem?
That’s how it is here in Alberta, I know there’s a wide variance in plumbing codes within the USA, however it isn’t likely to differ too much from this model.
    Marc the plumber, in Calgary.

  22. Sorry, should read:
Explain how the situation and Obama’s statement would change if Joe wasn’t the “fraud” you claim him to be?

  23. Oh, Kaga, missing the point aren’t you?
McCain is trying to make a symbol of “Joe” the “Plumber” but Joe is more like a symbol of McCain’s campaign: built on images that don’t bear out in reality.
How can a guy who has been a landmark in Washington argue he’s an outsider? How can a guy who has almost always voted with his party and Bush, claim to be a maverick and an independent thinker? How can a guy who has so much wealth and property that he doesn’t even know how many houses he owns really be the guy for the average American? How can a guy who claims all of the fundamentals of the economy are in good shape and that the economy is not his strong suit claim to know what to do? How can the guy who couldn’t run his campaign for a week so he could deal with the economic crisis, claim that his opponent isn’t up to the job? How can a guy who just supported the US government’s partial nationalizing of banks, call his opponent a socialist?
“Joe” the “Plumber” is also symbolic of the McCain campaign because, just as Joe is jumping at the chance for his 15 days of fame, McCain has been jumping from theme to theme to theme trying to catch fire with something, trying to give some sense and direction to his faltering campaign.
Joe is a symbol, not of the average American, but of John McCain and his campaign: not what he says he is and not what we expected him to be.

  24. Ted you kind of sound like a nut case.
Faltering campaign? They are 3 points apart in the polls…….
‘How can a guy who has been a landmark in Washington argue he’s an outsider? How can a guy who has almost always voted with his party and Bush, claim to be a maverick and an independent thinker?’ – Same can be said about Obama…..
‘How can a guy who claims all of the fundamentals of the economy are in good shape and that the economy is not his strong suit’ – Same can be said about Obama….
And a few just for Obama:
No recorded history of working a real job in his life.
No experience running anything of any substance.
    No foreign experience.
    No military experience.
    No executive experience.
So Ted it is you who are a symbol. A symbol of the narrow-minded, selfish, blinkered, bigoted left that throughout history has visited nothing but misery, poverty and class warfare on everything and everyone it touches.
Good-grief Ted, it is as simple as opening a history book and see what your false socialism God has wroth.

  25. Ted,
None of what you posted changes what Obama openly said to Joe, nor does it change the point of the post that started this discussion thread. McCain’s campaign isn’t even part of this discussion so bringing him up and how he was propping up Joe as a symbol is irrelevant.
And yet you still refuse to explain to me how Joe’s credibility somehow changes Obama’s support for the redistribution of wealth and what Obama believes his government is obligated to take from successful small business owners that make “too much money”.

  26. If you are more concerned with the experience of a plumber’s life instead of the person who wants to be POTUS, you must be liberal.

  27. Actually, Kaga, I was responding to Set You Free who wanted to blame “The Media” and the Democrats for tearing apart the life of this poor “private citizen”. Which is a crock for the many reasons I set out above.
And I don’t know why it so hard for you folks to understand that (a) a criticism of McCain and his and Palin’s failing campaign is not an endorsement of Obama who is almost as empty a suit as Palin (though he clearly didn’t pay as much for his suit as Palin) and (b) an attack on Obama is not a refutation of criticism or defence of McCain, although I can sympathize – if you have no way of defending him, might as well go on the attack.
