More Leftogyny

From CNN:;

Trying to set up the fact Sarah Palin would be meeting with 9 top world leaders this week (including the heads of Iraq, Afghanistan and Georgia) the CNN video related Palin’s schedule with “speed dating”.
It was a crass and demeaning analogy clearly sexist in its context and message. No one claimed Obama was “speed dating” with world leaders in is most excellent world tour this summer. And the impression is not to be glossed over. The term speed dating conjures images of desperation on the part of a woman. Clearly, with her family situation, Sarah is not in need of speed dating anyone. It was a gutter-level swipe at women in a man’s world.

  1. This is all good news. If, even with all of their reach, the MSM is afraid, then the Democrats must be experiencing a serious brown-trousers moment.

  2. The use of the term “speed-dating” conjures up “images of desperation on the part of a woman”. Looks like we’ve got some ivory tower-ish post-modernist deconstruction going on here.
On a separate note, the mainstream media is known to be blatantly biased.
No one takes CNN seriously. Fox News Channel is No. 1 in the US. Has been, for a while.
So what difference does it make what CNN is saying. It’s not like anyone who is smart watches CNN. If they did, they would be able to identify the blatant bias, further undermining CNN. American voters are not stupid. They have seen the MSM being discredited for years and probably don’t care about what it has to say, beyond paying attention to “your extended weekly weather forecast”.
Why, then, is this partcular line from CNN worthy of any attention? Who cares what they say? Nobody smart watches them anyway.

  3. And I have little time for cries of sexism in election campaigns. As one Fox News Commentator so succinctly put it, she is going to have to be tough to deal with what the boys in Moscow, the boys in Tehran, and the boys in Beijing dish out.

  4. Hmm, I wonder if Margaret Thatcher was ever accused of speed dating?
I don’t know if Chancellor Angela Merkel has ever ‘speed dated’.
Could you just see it now, that Der Spiegel put out a gushing story of how Angela is an angel, and truly “RE-Merkel-ble” woman?
But then one day we will read about her “Putin” on a pass at Vladimir!
Hey we can all put the AFFAIR, back into Foreign Affairs!!
As to sexualizing our politicians, why would one want to? Because sex or rather the hint of sex sells.
The gutter politics is an attempt to pull down Sarah to the Clinton/Lewinski level. It is a shallow meme to suggest that at the moral level there is no difference qualitatively between Democrats and Republicans.
It is a not so subtle swipe to insinuate that the media find it incredible that someone may actually be happy in their marriage.
If anyone needs to sexualize Sarah Palin, the job is taken by Todd Palin. He seems to be having some success in this area and I am sure he doesn’t need any ‘help’. Any prospective offers may receive a right hook to the chops.
Why talk policy, when you can focus on that gorgeous set of gams?
I can see it now, pinup posters of Sarah Palin to “Rock-‘n-Roll Republican”.
Meanwhile, back at the National Enquirer….

  5. She was cancelled when Clinton pulled out. The organizers wanted it to be bipartisan, but her showing up alone would have turned it into an election fest.
It is a pity she chose to simply publish her speech. I don’t understand why she needed to go only through the invitation of the organization. There was nothing stopping her from showing up and doing her own thing, away from the major protest.
But I guess going there purely out of principle was never an option. The only way she was willing to show up was if she could justify it on the basis of winning Jewish votes.

  6. wickerman…obviously you have never organised a rally.
The organisers are the ones that cancelled her, when Obama chickened out.
As for your seedy remark we’ll ignore you as a troll with an empty comment.

  7. ok ..it was Clinton who declined when she knew she was sharing the stage with Palin.
So we can conclude the Dems are more afraid of Sarah Palin than they are of Ahmadinejad.
And wickerman, we will be better off realising Ahmadinejad is not only a threat to Israel and Jews, he is a threat to the free western world.
Charles …thanks for another excellent read.

  8. Oh I know Ahmednijad is, well, insane. And should be shot on sight. I would gladly do the honors.
What I find truly intriguing is your attempt to spin the issue.
    Let’s look over it.
Ahmednijad, regardless of his mental status, knows what Sarah Palin thinks of him. Her showing up and making a speech is going to have no impact on him. I don’t think he even knows English. ANd I doubt the speeches and banners are going to be in Farsi. Just a hunch.
So what difference does it make?
Perhaps Sarah does feel strongly about the issue. In which case she could have gone and started up her own little rally. She didn’t.
From this, one can surmise, rationally I think, that she would have shown up to the rally only because such an effot could have been justified on the grounds that it would win some Jewish votes. Deprived of this attention by her disinvitation, she made a very cold calculation – there was no point going to New York and doing her own thing.

  9. Strawdog there wickerman…
And wouldn’t the media love to spin the partisan opportunity of her appearing, at her ‘own’ rally to protest.
She’ll get more milage out of this speech than if she had appeared with Clinton, or had her ‘own rally’…my what a silly idea wickerman! This is a presidential campaign, not a college event.
Once again good for the NY Sun.

  10. This is a tactic of the Left.
When Face Off was a show on the CBC, featuring someone from the left and someone from the right “facing off,” Svend Robinson was invited on the show on the left. REAL Woman’s Judy Anderson was invited on, on the right.
A few hours before the show was to go on air, Ms. Anderson received a call from the producers of Face Off to say she didn’t need to come to the CBC studio afterall.
She said “Why not? Will Svend Robinson not go on with me?” The producer started yelling, “Who told you? Who told you?” Apparently Ms. Anderson said, “No one. That’s just the way the other side is.”
Guess what? The show went to air with only Svend Robinson on with Judy Rebick and Claire Hoy. That’s when I began to call the show Rip Off, and I never watched it again.

  11. Strawdog – good one.
“And wouldn’t the media love to spin the partisan opportunity of her appearing, at her ‘own’ rally to protest.”
If it was her own rally, why would the media bother construing it as partisan. Her presence at the Jewish event would have turned an event that the organizers hoped would be either bipartisan or neutral into a partisan event. The same cannot apply to her own event, since it was never meant to be neutral or bipartisan – it would be her rally.
I am sure she will get mileage out of this. Good for the NY Sun, and the 150,000 people who bother reading it.
I will admit straight up that this is the first time I have heard of the New York Sun. Hopefully it is better than its raggy Torontonian counterpart.

  12. “9 top world leaders this week (including the heads of Iraq, Afghanistan and Georgia”
Wow!! Who, I wonder, were the other 6 ‘top world leaders’?
    A comment from a fellow Alaskan —
“We learned this morning that the McCain campaign had banned the press. The TV producer, print and wire reporters in the press pool that follows Palin as she travels the country, were told that they would not be admitted to the meetings. There would, of course be photographers and a camera crew to capture iconic images of the events so we can see Palin meeting with these world leaders, without actually knowing what anyone said. Convenient for the McCain campaign.”

  13. Man oh man. You guys are a bunch of politically correct pussies.
And really… hearing calls of sexism from the McCain camp is a laugh. This is the dude who called his own wife a “cunt”, and made a joke about how ugly Chelsea Clinton was when she was 15, because her father was really Janet Reno.
You want to talk about sexism? Dudes… look in the mirror.

  14. Well John…I don’t see anyone here making belittling remarks about Biden because he happens to be a guy….your point?

  15. My socialist sister in the UK thinks CNN right-wing. I tell her it stands for Communist News Network. She’s puzzled.

  16. So why did the Ubermessiah cancl his appearance at an anti-Dinnerjacket rally? Is he himself a dinner-jacket or, more probably, is he sucking up to Imadinner-jacket?

  17. Larry King interviewed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad tonight and after the introduction and the handshake I had to turn the TV off. The intro had Larry excitedly tell us that M.A. discusses his thoughts on G. Bush “and you have to hear what he has to say!” Larry was gushing. There’s going to be Bush bashing and it’s going to be fun. Then the handshake… Larry reached out in a friendly manner and shook the hand of the man who threatens to bomb Israel but worse he reaches over with his other hand and grabs M.A. on his elbow and gives him the rub you would give to an old best friend you haven’t seen in years. It looked like Mahmoud even felt awkward. I wonder if Larry asked him to fill in as a guest host sometime?

  18. “Hmm, I wonder if Margaret Thatcher was ever accused of speed dating?”
Nope, but she was accused of possessing the only set of balls in her cabinet.
“I don’t see anyone here making belittling remarks about Biden because he happens to be a guy”
There’s another thread on this site where many things are being said about Bill Clinton because he happens to be a guy. Or are we limiting this only to VP Candidates?
“My socialist sister in the UK thinks CNN right-wing”
CNN International is different to CNN USA. Huge qualitative difference. And CNN Intl is pretty baised towards the US. Of course, its still credible compared to Fox News International, which my friends treat as the Republican equivalent of Jon Stewarts Daily Show – hilarious satire that shouldn’t be taken seriously. ‘Curb’-jobs and all that.

  19. Speed-dating. CNN plays to the Gen Y academics and hipsters. ** towering yawn** Must be frustrating to see a lovely ‘Pub VP candidate with an even more photogenic hunk for a husband. First time I ever saw Greta Van Sustern smile, a genuine smile, was during her interview with the Toddster. I was smiling as well.
