Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, pursuant to our Saturday night contemporary music show, we have been fortunate enough to find in the interwebothique archives a live performance of a great contemporary piece, so we don’t have to put up with one of those idiotic “music videos” that deface so much contemporary music.
Here then, for your delectation and without further ado, are Talking Heads performing Once in a Lifetime, from their concert movie Stop Making Sense, which was shot over three nights in December 1983, as the group was touring to promote their new album Speaking in Tongues; although Once in a Lifetime was originally recorded on their Remain in Light album (5:25).
Your Reader Tips are, same as it ever was, welcome in the comments.

MEMRI is asking for donations. They have been translating Middle East media for a decade, shedding a light on the collective insanity that governs that part of the world, better than anyone else.
They have brought us the Wafa Sultan videos, the sickening childhood propaganda in Iran and in Gaza, the “camel urine fatwa”, and much else. Without them I think our knowledge of these crazies would be much less.
A worthy cause in my opinion.

I went to a the Conservative rally at Rockland, Ontario to hear Prime Minister Harper speak last night. My thoughts from the rally are:
-was not sure where I was going but I saw two OPP cruisers and guys in suits with coils coming out of their ears and decided this was the place.
-doors did not open till 5 but older people were let in so they could sit down. Class operation.
-invite only, very controlled, well organized event.
-Before the speech, an organizer was going around giving out blue t-shirts to people who wanted to stand behind PM Harper on stage. The gentlemen beside me and myself declined, wanting to support but not be in the limelight, kind of you know, conservative.
-people were buzzing and the place was full, I would guess 500 people for a small banquet room.
-Lots of families with children
-I chatted with the guy beside me and he said PM Harper was the first honest politician for PM since PM St. Laurent. He thought the Chief was OK but a bit of a blowhard. I concurred even though when I was born PM Trudeau was in power.
-PM Harper gave a good stump speech, lots of red meat.
-Longest applause was right at the beginning when PM Harper first came on stage and things started to quiet down and then a moonbat in back started yelling. Everyone in the crowd seemed to know exactly what to do, which was to cheer and clap to drown the guy out. I was so happy. The RCMP security detail soon removed him.
-Loudest applause was when he paid his respect for the troops. I was choked up.
-Only new thing I learned was a promise to change the tax code to allow income splitting for people with disabled dependents.
-The crowd left the building pumped. Will the enthusiasm continue to help at the riding level, time will tell.
“Once In A Lifetime” — great track!
I don’t normally like songs that are either quirky or funky, but this one is both and it’s terrific.
Speaking of quirky, have you ever heard “Mocking Bird” by Inez Foxx? 1963 was such a great year for music …
A recently deceased person found himself standing in front of the Pearly Gates and after getting his bearings he noticed a distinguished bearded gentleman sitting behind a desk, check marking a book with a quill pen.
“Welcome” said the gentleman looking up from the book.
“Hello” replied the man.
“I see here that you had no particular political affiliation while you were alive.”
“Ahh..no…” said the man somewhat perplexed. “I just voted for the best candidate in my local riding.” “Excuse me for asking, Who are you? Is this heaven and what does politics have to do with me here?”
With a chuckle the gentleman rose from behind the desk and greeted the man with an out stretched hand “I’m Peter and yes this is heaven.” as he shook the man’s hand.
“As for the political aspect, God figures political leanings is a good indication for the type of heaven a person deserves.”
“Oh” the man said as he slowly nodded his head in acknowledgement of this bit of news.
“Doesn’t religion have something to do with going to heaven?” asked the man.
“Oh yes, it does play a big part. In fact it is a criteria to come here, but God has found that even if a person is religious, that person’s faith is somewhat shaped by their political views.”
“Didn’t know that.”
“Yep” said Peter. “But in your case politics didn’t shape your faith, you held steadfast.”
“Well I tried to vote for the best candidate….”
“Yes you did, but enough of this chit chat. What type of heaven would you like?
“Type of heaven?”
“Yes, type of heaven.” “Let me show you.” said Peter as he led the man through the opening Pearly Gates.
“Here’s the NDP heaven.” commented Peter coming up to a door, which was one of several the man noted.
The door was opened and before him, the man saw basically a well manicured lawn spread out as far as the eye could see with some city park type trails meandering between some city park type benches.
“Pretty sparse for heaven isn’t it?” asked the man.
“Yes” sighed Peter. “I’m surprised it’s in colour.”
“Let me show you the Green Party heaven.”
The door was opened and there was a lush forest as far as the eye could see. Peering closer, the man noticed that every tree was being hugged by a person.
“You got to be kidding.” exclaimed the man.
“It’s their Utopia, what can I say?” replied Peter, then he grinned.
“You should see their Hell, it is exactly like what you saw, but with a horde of hungry beavers added in.”
As they walked further on, they came upon the Conservative Party door. It was opened.
It was heaven the man imagined it to be. The sweetest of air, the bluest of skies, majestic scenery of streams, hills, mountains. It was as if the most beautiful places of earth that he had seen during his life time were transplanted there.
“NOW that is heaven!”
“Wait now” cautioned Peter, “I have one more to show before you decide.”
Down from where they were, was the Liberal Party Heaven door.
Peter reached out to open the door, and with his other hand he brought a finger up to his lips…
“Shhh…you have to be very quiet. They think they are the only ones up here.”

Saturday Night Live had a great skit making fun of New York Times reporters, and how urbanly provincial they are. Look for it on Youtube.
The Green Shaft firms up…
“Albertans have raised concerns that the Green Shift would bring about a massive transfer of wealth out of their province. But Liberal politicians argue that the tax could help Alberta solve its environmental and image problems.
Ontario Liberal MP Ken Boschcoff has said the Green Shift is a way to transfer money out of Alberta into the rest of Canada.
Boschcoff called it “the most aggressive anti-poverty program in 40 years. The shift will transfer wealth from rich to poor, from the oil patch to the rest of the country, and from the coffers of big business to the pockets of low-income Canadians.”
Alberta should be ecsatic that at long last their “image problem” will be solved.
Dave, is this Boschcoff’s version of the Green Shaft? All Liberals have their own version, whatever sounds best in their respective ridings to fool the people. Did he mention Alberta already shovels money big time into parts of Canada under equalization? That would include Buffoon Williams’ province since he still wants to be on the government teat even though he’s in have status.
Anyway, Dion and his wannabes are trying to hide their once main plank, so we can only assume it is now a hidden agenda.
Dion’s Hegelian dialectic for Alberta (more or less):
An imaginary problem (CO2) + Image Problem (Guilt for not dealing with imaginary problem) = Green Shift (Wealth Redistribution)

Thank you for that link xiat. I’ve been expecting the tide to turn.
I was stuck on you tube watching David Byrne. What a genius. “Psycho Killer” is a favourite of mine. My son used to play in a band that took the sort of risks the Talking Heads took. It caught on for a little while, but they didn’t stick with it.
(Via SWJ) Diana West, Creeping Islamization in Europe
“Is Europe lost?” The answer to the second question is, “No, not yet.” And losing Europe, I would add, is by no means inevitable. But that doesn’t mean the continent isn’t currently hell-bent to accommodate the dictates of Islamic law, bit by increasingly larger bit. Such a course of accommodation, barring reversal, will only hasten Bernard Lewis’ famous prediction that Europe will be Islamic by century’s end…
(Via SWJ) Dexter Filkins, Back in Iraq, Jarred by the Calm
When I left Baghdad two years ago, the nation’s social fabric seemed too shredded to ever come together again. The very worst had lost its power to shock. To return now is to be jarred in the oddest way possible: by the normal, by the pleasant, even by hope. The questions are jarring, too. Is it really different now? Is this something like peace or victory? And, if so, for whom: the Americans or the Iraqis?
Sarah Palin (and FDR, JFK, Abraham Lincoln…) versus clueless Charlie Gibson:
‘Are We Fighting A Holy War?’
The problem I have with predictions that ‘Europe will be Islamic’ is that a society cannot be both Islamic AND industrial. The two systems are incompatible.
Industrialism requires reason and individualism for the devt of new technologies, innovative products, competitive marketing.
Islamism rejects reason, individualism, competition, marketing.
There is NO Islamic society that operates within the scientific method, that promotes innovation, individual free thought, dissent, science, reason, etc.
Therefore – could someone explain to me how a population as massive as that of Europe – and a massive population requires industrialism to sustian it…could someone explain to me how a society that requires industrialism could also have a thought-system that renders it incapable of industrialism?
Good link Charles. Thanks
Philip Jacobson, The success of the home-made bomb
Every month up to 300 improvised explosive devices are detonated somewhere in the world — and that’s outside Iraq and Afghanistan. Billions are being spent to find the technology to beat the home-made bomb — but the terrorists are always one step ahead…
IEDs are now rated by the Pentagon as “the single most effective weapon” to be deployed against US troops serving in Iraq. Buried in potholes or beneath rubbish, concealed in cars, storm drains and discarded army ration packs – even hidden in the carcasses of dead animals – roadside bombs are perfectly suited to the type of “asymmetric” war in which a militarily inferior force devises methods of striking at a powerful enemy’s most vulnerable points…
It may take quite some time for the European industrial economy to come apart at the seams, ET. The descent into chaos, criminality and internecine warfare that will assuredly result from Islamisation is only delayed until the economy weakens sufficiently.
Isi Leibler, Candidly Speaking: Canadian Israel advocacy in turmoil
Regrettably, in recent years the [Cdn. Jewish] community’s public advocacy on behalf of Israel has dramatically declined. This paralleled a major upsurge in anti-Semitism and demonization of Israel as a consequence of Muslim immigration and intensified hostility from the Canadian left.
The downturn had its genesis in 2004 when the principal communal fund-raisers, concerned about increased anti-Semitism and hostility to Israel, decided to supplant the traditional communal advocacy bodies… and [replace] it with an undemocratic body headed by professional public relations consultants…
The time for reform is now while Canadian Jews are blessed with a prime minister who has emerged as one of Israel’s staunchest international allies. Unlike the cowardly cabal of “PR experts,” Stephen Harper is willing to publicly distinguish between Islamic fundamentalists seeking the destruction of the Jewish state and the right of Israel to defend itself. However, we cannot expect statesmen to be more pro-Israel than the self-appointed spokesmen of the Jewish community.
“Responding to Neo-Atheism ( Many years of very successful publishing run for anti-God writers )
Neo-atheism has had a very successful publishing run over the past several years, with best-selling books by Christopher Hitchens (“god is not great”), Sam Harris (“Letter to a Christian Nation”) and Richard Dawkins (“The God Delusion”), among others. But this year there has been an equally impressive counter-phenomenon. Three recent books, written from three widely divergent perspectives, have responded to the arguments of neo-atheism with both intellectual force and literary grace.
In April, David Berlinski, a secular Jew and well-known skeptic of Darwinism, who holds a Ph. D. in Philosophy from Princeton and has written widely on mathematics and science, published “The Devil’s Delusion: Atheism and Its Scientific Pretensions.” The book defends religion by attacking atheism’s attempt to enlist science in its cause.
The book is written with Mr. Berlinski’s characteristic literary verve. To a Nobel Prize scientist’s argument — offered at a conference on “science, religion and reason” — that “for good people to do evil things, [it] takes religion,” Berlinski responds: “Just who has imposed on the suffering human race poison gas, barbed wire, high explosives, experiments in eugenics, the formula for Zyklon B, heavy artillery, pseudo-scientific justifications for mass murder, cluster bombs, attack submarines, napalm, intercontinental ballistic missiles, military space platforms, and nuclear weapons?”
“If memory serves,” he writes, “it was not the Vatican.”
Last month, Michael Novak, a Catholic scholar who holds the Jewett Chair in Religion, Philosophy and Public Policy at the American Enterprise Institute, published “No One Sees God: The Dark Night of Atheists and Believers.””

sorry – charles macdonald – but I don’t agree. The result of a non-industrial infrastructure in a population in the millions is not ‘chaos, criminality and warfare’. It’s famine, disease and starvation. Eg. Zimbabwe.
I don’t see that happening in Europe. Why not? Because the industrial infrastructure in Europe is not held in a ‘class’, as in Zimbabwe, where white farmers had control of the industrial infrastructure and Mugabe’s ingorant removal of them..also removed the industrial capacity to produce food. The industrial infrastructure in Europe is an integral part of the political infrastructure. The non-industrial Muslims are dependent on this infrastructure.
The question then becomes – can you remove this industrial infrastructure by cultural intrusions of Islamization? You can certainly harm it. But, can you remove it? I say – No. The population is too large.
A society, when it reaches a ‘critical threshold’ when its economic capacity cannot ‘carry’ its population, will make massive attempts to repair this imbalance. It has no choice. It can try many things – and all have been attempted before.
In the European medieval era, this imbalance, which resulted in disease and even famine, was met with internal wars over resources. In a global economy, I don’t see this happening. What I see happening, is a ‘slip’ back to a focus on industrial innovation and production. And anything that stops this New Society will be viewed with contempt. That includes the Islamic rejection of science, reason, productive work and the market.
So- I think Europe has a bit more slithering to the left to go..but..it can’t last. The movement back to productivity will begin.

“Tories would force another election before compromising on crime bills: minister
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The Conservatives say they would force yet another federal election before accepting any compromises in implementing their anti-crime agenda.
Justice Minister Rob Nicholson says the Conservatives would pursue tough anti-crime legislation if re-elected, with or without a majority government.
Nicholson says any anti-crime bills would be declared confidence motions and if the opposition opposed them, another election would be called.”
Mole in the PMO?
I’m on the Prime Minister’s email list. This list is used for government announcements of various types, and SH has not been using it for campaign purposes.
Today I got what appears to be an enemy email sent from the same server as the normal ones. Here is the text:
Hi The Average Canadian,
Stephen Harper wanted to tell you…
My name is Stephen Harper. I am an ALBERTAN, here me roar! My goal is to make Canada America’s 51st state and destroy health care that all Canadians cherish by infusing my propaganda with hard core ad hominem attacks. Please vote for me, because if you do, I promise you’ll be able to vote for McCain 2012!
We are a tar sands level party, not a grass roots party. We consider anything with the word \”Green\” offensive, except for the almighty American dollar, which we hope to be able to implement in the coming months! We shall first have to make sure that American and Canadian jelly beans have the same standards, and then we shall proceed.
I hope everyone has a great weekend,
Take care,
Stephen \”I can lead you to Hell but not back\” Harper

By inspecting the headers it appears this email actually did come from the real PMO’s list server.
The first host on the Received list is 10.8.8.2 which is an internal IP address.
I suspect somebody figured out a way to transmit to the list using the page “reachout.php” at willyoubetricked.ca.
This page is not accessible to the public at this time.
Look at the interesting headers and X-IP and X-URI. The URI looks suspiciously like a way to send mail.
I don’t know for sure but X-IP could be the IP address of the host that hit the page reachout.php to send the message.

“The incredible shrinking Obama
How’s Barack Obama’s narrative going?
Journalists used to tell stories, now they plumb narratives. Narrative is a pretentious borrowing from the abstraction-clotted world of academic criticism, where texts are interrogated, authors are dead and high-toned fatuousness is king. I’ll see your postmodern and raise you a meta.
Mr. Obama’s campaign, however, has renewed narrative’s trendy fizz. It is the very Perrier water (or is it San Pellegrino now?) of the better campaign reportage. Take no hike up Pundit Mountain without it. From the moment, the Obama surge took forceful shape, everyone – reporters, the scholars of blogland, the partisan howler monkeys of cable-news cage matches – has chattered on about Mr. Obama’s narrative.
Trouble is, most of the story of the campaign isn’t so much coming from the candidate himself as it is created by all those who, most in worshipful terms, have talked, written and reported on or about him. The Obama campaign is one great text generator, the grand fable of his fans.”

First comment:
” D. Wiltshire from Canada writes: Rex has once again brought the beauty of poetic narrative to the vapidity of the political arena, and its mainstay center ring clown, Barack Hussein Obama. Rex has certainly attained his metaphor in the bottled water analogy, with the correct reflection of San Pelegrino rather than Perrier. There is nothing particularly French or romantic about an opportunistic fellow who plays the racist card without flinching, surrounds himself with ethereal clerics and subterranean gangsters of south Chicago. San Pelegrino is the much more self indulging, petulant and irreverent choice of the young, with an effervescence possessing but a short shelf life, and an inappropriately high price tag attached to it, beyond the means of the everyman, but still bearing a call to indulge nevertheless, with the promise of perpetual satisfaction, all the while emptying the pockets of its hopeful purchasers, and filling those of the perennial snake charmer and his visionary troupe of illusionists. As Rex has said, “the Democrat has a Gatsby quality to him”, and with good luck, the Democrat shall go the way of Gatsby, dying a death to which few of his vacuous admirers will even pay a passing notice.
It will in essence, quickly become another story of the ‘once upon a time ‘ collection of children’s fairy tales, gathering dust as the days, week, months, and years pass by, all because there was no moral to the story, and no morality in the tragic and pathetic character portrayed therein , who possessed little other than a modicum of slick oratorical guise and a dangerously attitudinal spouse.”

“Health officials say 50,000 sickened by tainted milk in China
Monday 22nd September, 06:35 AM JST
BEIJING —
China’s health authorities announced Sunday that more than 50,000 people, most of them infants, have been sickened by milk and milk products tainted with the mild toxin melamine. Officials said 39,965 victims had been treated at hospital and released after recovering, while another 12,892 babies remain in hospital.
On Friday, scale of the food contamination scandal widened massively as traces of the melamine were also found in fresh milk as well as in baby milk powder. Tests carried out by the government’s safety watchdog showed milk produced by three dairy firms contained traces of the chemical, according to a statement posted on the department’s website. Four babies are confirmed to have died after developing kidney stones from drinking contaminated milk formula.
The health problems have also spread to Hong Kong, where several children are suffering from kidney ailments, to Macau and Singapore.”

The Globe and Mail has an on-line story about Peter Mackay bending the rules by approving $16,800 for ‘lunches’ for passport employess working overtime. Egads, those reckless conservatives. Actually,it works out to $14 dollars per person per weekend. They were working overtime because of the volume resulting from the the changes in border rules. The comments after the story are almost all pro Mackay. 4 more weeks of this petty slander, and then hopefully a majority for Harper.

And yes, the upsurge in Islamic power in Lebanon has brought chaos, criminality and warfare, not the starvation, etc., that plagues Southern Rhodesia.
