Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

All very well as part of the battle against political correctness but it does tend to trivialise a great conflict. I prefer “Midway”.
I agree John, but the alternate is the preaching of defeat that we continually get from most of the media and Hollywood. When WWll first started there was considerable pro-enemy sentiment here. It’s a well worn tactic of war to use propaganda on the weak willed in the enemies camp.
One would be wise to contemplate where the current War On Terror will end up with the political correctness we see today. Just a thought; would it be interesting to see new Canadians polled to see just where some groups stand?
So, the SDA thinking is that the word “Jap” is back in. Care to publish the whole list of words that are A-OK?
David, the vast majority of us would never think of using such a name on the many lovely Japanese Canadians we live and work with. Does that mean that it must be forbidden to reflect on the great war we fought (and lost so many friends and relatives) to secure our freedoms? I don’t think it does. As long as the negative references are not aimed at the innocent, who do they hurt?
Should we all line up and hurl curses as our Vets march on November 11th. Many would like us to and some have. For many peace comes from not admitting that it must be secured with the blood of our youth, but pretending we can just ask for it and be nice.
Cartoons like this illustrate that we were engaged in a fight to the death; rather than some “unpleasantness over there”.
David, if you check again, I believe you’ll find that your question would be better directed to Popeye.

So one gets their lead from cartoons, including cartoons that are sixty years old. Sure. Why not.
The Japanese tortured GIs and Koreans and Chinese in literally unspeakable ways, but what we REALLY need to watch out for is calling ’em “Japs.”
Got it.

Perhaps you can explain the relevance of that to usage in current communications. Do you use the work “Japs” to refer to people you meet who look Japanese? What word do you use to refer to people who are Chinese Canadians? And what about people who are black?
Tell me one word you can’t say about Christians dave and then I might care.
does david’s IP trace back to an HRC somewhere or is Lucy on his off hours?
I don’t know about using slang for any ethnic group…but the other name for David is “tool”.

I gather you don’t care about calling minorities by abusive and degrading names. In fact, I bet you think it’s good fun. Is that why your called Dinosaur? BTW, does your IP trace back to a Tory party office somewhere?

Whose tool are you, KVB? Who do you work for?
Frankly, although terms like “Jap, Nip, Polack, Injun, Wop,” etc are not politically correct today and can be argued by HRCs to be hateful and racist, the fact remains that they were used back then. Going back and trying to change history by banning cartoons, editing out “offensive” parts and such is a waste of time. It is better to teach your child history and why these things were said and done instead of insulating the poor snowflakes.
btw, I was watching a documentary on the Discovery Channel yesterday called “Hell in the Pacific” and it pulled no punches. If you wonder how a person is motivated to hate the enemy then imagine finding your buddy skinned alive and still breathing. War is hell and not to be taken lightly. All the more reason to support our troops who are doing the dirty work so the leftoids can enjoy the right to protest whatever.
Oh come on here who amongst us hasn’t eaten a “Jap Orange”? You know the ones. They came in a little wooden crate around Christmas time. What’s more the wood from the crate was useless for anything except burning. If you tried to drill into it or drive a nail through it, it split.
The PC poppycock is getting rediculous i mean now liberal wussietards dont want you to use words that might offend minorities they even set up speach codes at schools and collages and suspend students who speak those words until some good conservative students hire a lawyer and sues those PC idiots STAMP OUT PC NONSENSE

Do you use those terms today in everyday speech? Your Discovery Channel “documentary” sounds more like fiction that anything else.
David: “Your Discovery Channel “documentary” sounds more like fiction that anything else.”
Atrocities committed by the Japanese before and during WWII on civilians and POW’s is well-documented. Take the time to educate yourself on the subject of history before making assumptions.
Saw one version of TOM SAWYER and HUCK FINN they were calling INJIN JOE as CRAZY JOE and i get tired of this sill BEFORE COMMON ERA(BCE)AND COMMON ERA(CE)AS IF THEIR AFRAID OF OFFENDING THOSE ATHEISTS IDIOTS and just imagine if someone had goten to RUYARD KIPLING they would have had him calling it THE RAINFOREST BOOK and this liberal doofus head MICHEAL W. FOX who wanted up to call pets COMPANION ANIAMALS and call those PET SHOPS as COMPANION ANIAMAL SHOPS which proves he is a liberal idiot
