Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Ah..yes……the ones “Natural Selection” usually looks after.
Ever see the ones around town, riding their street bikes with no shirt. But wearing a pair of shorts, and I’ve seen sandals(now how do you shift like that???)
These are the one that I question “Why are they wearing a helmet” I mean….like…ah….It is apparent the damage is done. What are they protecting if they are that stupid?
The motorcyclist isn’t the only bad driver in the video!

Where is this taking place. It’s not North America or Europe.
Might be India.
If he was in Canada, he wouldn’t dare do this. It would cost him too much money especially with the latest crap from Telus and Bell Mobility.
That’s insane. And I don’t mean the guy on the bike. NO driver in that video was driving safely. How do people live like that?
Damn, that video has me jonesing for my RZ500 real bad. I just wanna whip past that guy at about 200k and watch him try to recover from a tank-slapper in my wake. With his feet.
I’d say it was probably India, but given that I just went to Toronto yesterday, that could have been the 401. I did see a black kid on a racing bike cutting traffic, badly. Wanted to pull him over and show him how to do it properly. ~:D “No kid, you’re doing it wrong. If you want the greenie idiot in the Smartcar to soil his laundry (and who wouldn’t?), you swoosh by him like -this-!”
Two kinds of drivers in Moronto these days: the ones that drive slow in the fast lane, and the ones going batsh1t trying to get around them. “Slow” is considered anything under 120 kph. I was getting tailgated at 135kph, in spots.
Speed limit is 100kph. Going that speed will get you honked at and given the finger even in the slow lane. If I had to drive there often I’d be considering adding a quad .50 cal tail gunner’s turret to the Dodge. Maybe a Gatling. And teeth on the grill, big fracking chrome teeth like Death Race 2000.
“But, how can this be?” I can hear you rural guys asking yourselves. How it can be is, I never saw a single cop yesterday in four hours of driving like a bat out of hell. Not one, solitary cop car. I don’t know what they’re doing or where they’re doing it, but it ain’t on the road.
Those people have a bigger problem than just texting on a bike.
Mmmmm.
Death Race 2000.
Phantom
“I don’t know what they’re doing or where they’re doing it, but it ain’t on the road.”
In Winnipeg, the cops are filling in paperwork for most of their day, after collaring the same 13 year old car thief for the 16th time. What extra time they have is spent counting days to their retirement.
Did anyone notice they passed a tractor on the what looked like a freeway? This has to be India or Pakistan.
The guy on the motorcycle is a moron, but in that area of the world texting on a motorcycle isn’t the only moronic behaviour.
“Where is this taking place. It’s not North America or Europe.”
from the looks of it I’d say Britain (license plates) and if that is the case then the passenger is taking the video.
Now I have no problems with idiots and their death wishes. I do have issues with them taking out others in the process or even costing taxpayers money by either cleaning up the mess or keeping the drooling vegetable alive for the rest of whatever.
Woodporter, here in Stupidtario the OPP are all in Caledonia making sure the dastardly White people (eeeew!) don’t molest the noble Mohawk Warrior Society “protesters” during their frequent extortion attempts at building sites around the area.
The OPP are so busy with the surveillance of the dangerous White people they don’t even answer court issued summons to appear. That’s why there’s no OPP speed traps on the 401 at least.
This does not explain why there’s ZERO Metro Toronto Police presence anywhere at all on a Saturday. Didn’t even see a Green Hornet.
Maybe Mayor Dave’s got them all out rousting senior citizens who are in the gun registry. Gotta keep the streets safe, y’know!
this guy sure can multi-task.
This video is from somewhere in SE Asia.
And the drivers are driving safely — for the rules on those roads.
I spent a week in Manila a few years ago, and I saw this kind of driving. The main rule of the road is that, as the driver, you are responsible for what you can see in front of you — including avoiding any vehicle that strays into your path. You are NOT responsible for what is behind you. The purpose of a horn is not “you moron, get out of my way” but rather “just a reminder that I am here”.
As long as you know and obey these rules, everything is fine. The only accident I noticed in a week was clearly due to speeding, not lane changing.
I would not last 5 minutes as a driver in Manila, but the locals are fine, and safe.
One of our Board members crossed a busy road in Vietnam on foot. He didn’t wait for a break in traffic, but simply started walking. On the video, the drivers, all going fast, can be seen deftly altering their direction to avoid this moving obstacle and continue on their way unimpeded. Quite a sight.
Alan
Alan,
You’re a lunatic if you think anything on that video was safe.
I would say this took place in India or Pakistan. The voice I heard had a distinct accent from that part of the world. A close look at the video shows the vehicles to have a right hand drive, and of course the video was taken by the passenger. Both India and Pakistan drive on the left, which indicates a right hand drive vehicle. I have nothing to say about the stupidity of the action, it more than speaks for itself…

I’m with Alan on the safe driving opinion. They seemed to be reasonably orderly other than a slight disregard for the lane markings, and they were not driving too fast. Notice the relatively low speed with which they passed the farm tractor, which go quite slow. Drivers in Mexico, on the other hand…
Mexican overdrive…neutral
Ah, that’s nothing. Why, just the other day, some crazy pedestrian jumped onto the sidewalk. When I swerved to avoid him, I almost spilled my Martini.
Why the idiot would even think to wear a helmet is the real puzzler. His Mommy must have told him to.
He’s not really -wearing- it Liz, he’s got it kind of perched on his head so he can see the phone better. Quite in keeping with the whole spirit of the thing actually, if he fell off the helmet would probably kill him before the car behind him did.
notasocialist,
It’s a little known fact, but Joe Rocket gear won’t save your life … no one has ever died from road rash. Ever heard of heel/toe shifters?
Anyway, as The Phantom pointed out, he doesn’t have his helmet on. The only question is would he die faster going over the bars or over the back … I think over the bars by a few milliseconds.
Mexican overdrive…neutral
mexican credit card…gas can and a a siphoning hoz
not much worst then the idiot I rncountered reading a magazine placed on the steering wheel of his saab going down the 410
Illustrates why we call them “donor cycles” — ’cause that’s where we get our organ donors.
That is an awsome vid. I mean, the texter is pretty braindead, but he does have some serious talents.
I love the commentary! “He’s just chilleeng!”
…you gotta forgive my ignorance, but how do you keep a motorcycle going without giving gas on the throttle in the handle bars?
Is he got a foot on the level below?
The thing that puzzles me in these days (besides riding with no hands and texting…although you have to admit it is a great talent ) are the guys Phantom mentions … driving 135 km/hr and then complaining about the price of gas. Maybe our problem is that we have had cheap gas ( and cheap food ) for so long that we can’t adapt… so much for Darwins theory.
Not just driving 135k Don, tailgating my ass at 135 because I’m not going 145.
If you haven’t been to Toronto lately, its a hell of a thing. I lived there from about 1980 to 1992, and the traffic was nutty. Since then the traffic has become obscene. People drive like freakin’ maniacs.
I’ll stack Hogtown against any large US city for traffic insanity, including New York. In NY they drive stupid, they drive rude, no manners and no friggin’ brains. Kamikaze cabs, blah blah blah.
In Toronto the Manhattan cab driver would be white knuckling in the granny lane, praying that some granny in a little Toyota didn’t check him into the guard rail.
You wonder why all the trolls we get here seem to be from Toronto, and they all seem to have a rage on? Traffic, baby.
tomax7,
Little device that acts almost like a cruise control – but isn’t (jams the throttle).
Haven’t been on a “new” bike … they have GPS … why not cruise?
I don’t know, Kate, I think the man deserves our respect.
He’s commenting on smalldeadanimals and getting home from work. Too good.
