Best Canadian Blog
2004 - 2007
Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

“…the death toll in developing states exceeds the number of casualties in developed states 20-30 times.”
It’s quite a reflection on our MSM that Pravda is a better source of sane commentary on climate-related problems. Sheesh
So let me get this straight, if I built my house next to a meandering river on a flood plain in a tornado-prone area, it would be the fault of global warming when my home is destroyed?
15 characteristics of Cults and their Leaders, by Janja Lalich and Michael D. Langone
Note how #8, ‘ The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify whatever means it deems necessary’ (as in Suzuki calling for the jailing of Kyoto offenders?)
Also #9 , ‘induce a feeling of guilt’, as in Jaeger’s post; ‘we are hurting the earth and it is stricking back’.
And #12, making money, aka Al Gore.
—-
#1 The group displays excessively zealous and unquestioning commitment to its leader and (whether he is alive or dead) regards his belief system, ideology, and practices as the Truth, as law.
#2 Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.
#3 Mind-altering practices (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, and debilitating work routines) are used in excess and serve to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).
#4 The leadership dictates, sometimes in great detail, how members should think, act, and feel (for example, members must get permission to date, change jobs, marry—or leaders prescribe what types of clothes to wear, where to live, whether or not to have children, how to discipline children, and so forth).
#5 The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s) and members (for example, the leader is considered the Messiah, a special being, an avatar—or the group and/or the leader is on a special mission to save humanity).
#6 The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which may cause conflict with the wider society.
#7 The leader is not accountable to any authorities (unlike, for example, teachers, military commanders or ministers, priests, monks, and rabbis of mainstream religious denominations).
#8 The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify whatever means it deems necessary. This may result in members’ participating in behaviors or activities they would have considered reprehensible or unethical before joining the group (for example, lying to family or friends, or collecting money for bogus charities).
#9 The leadership induces feelings of shame and/or guilt iin order to influence and/or control members. Often, this is done through peer pressure and subtle forms of persuasion.
#10 Subservience to the leader or group requires members to cut ties with family and friends, and radically alter the personal goals and activities they had before joining the group.
#11 The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members.
#12 The group is preoccupied with making money.
#13 Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group and group-related activities.
#14 Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members.
#15 The most loyal members (the “true believers”) feel there can be no life outside the context of the group. They believe there is no other way to be, and often fear reprisals to themselves or others if they leave (or even consider leaving) the group.
Read “ron in kelowna” post above, especially #14 and #15, then read this article.

Dig deeper and this also is from CBCPravda. It’s Da Truth, tovarisch.
As Citoyen Dion say, the worse the better*; Apres the Deluge, Moi..
…-
“Earth’s rotation can lead to the Deluge”
“Snows of Antarctica and Greenland are harbouring danger
The world rotates round its axis. This fact does not seem to cause any fear or worry. However, the dangers are lurking about every bend. This rotation system is not mechanically stable as tones of snow fall on the continental platform of Greenland and Antarctica every year. This snow forms a so-called icy dumbbell the, which(sic) increases in size every year. This is where the danger is lurking.”

OK, but is this The Empire Strikes Back, or is this The Return of the Jedi?
Now everybody listen. Al Gore told us climate change would result in hurricanes, floods, forest fires and earthquakes. Well, those things happen, so climate change is proved.
Hope that clears everything up.
Or was it that hurricanes, floods, forest fires, earthquakes first happened and then Al Gore blamed them on climate change?
Thus proving that climate change is responsible for Al Gore?
I meant to post this comment here … sorry for that.
“At least 2.5 million people have been killed in natural disasters over the recent 48 years. The number of casualties over the recent 20 years made up 1.6 million people, the UN said.”
– Many more millions were killed in wars, terrorism and murders.
– Many more millions died of natural causes such as disease.
– Many more millions died in accidents of all kinds.
What is suggested is that we should keep eveyone alive at all costs until there are what? … 25 billion of us? … 50 billion of us?
If we stop trying to control nature, nature will take it’s course which, as always, is best.
Don’t mess with mother nature. If it natural for us to continue to live and continue to try to better living conditions and nature objects, then whatever will be will be.
I fail to see the point of trying to control the earth and the sun and every aspect of life on earth. It is impossible and only an arrogant, petulant, idiotic liberal philosophy would think otherwise.
Just one more good example of the total irrelevance of the UN.
“The number of casualties over the recent 20 years made up 1.6 million people, the UN said.”
So does the UN claim that the earthquake which caused the tsunami in the Bay of Bengal in 2004, killing about 500,000 (one-third of their numbers), is a result of global warming?
Well, if “everyone” in a flood plain is going to get flooded out, doesn’t it make sense with the increased population the “everyone” of today is going to be larger in number than the “everyone” of 100 years ago?
I don’t recall hearing of such a thing as a hurricane ever happening before the world started warming up. Wow, my sarcasm is awful.
gork…of course it is AGW’s fault! So let me see if I’ve got the Useless Nations figuring right.
In approximately 1/2 the time span(20 of 48 years),the # of evil people killed was 64% of the last total 48 years. In that same time span, the world’s population increased 48%, from 3 billion to 6.7 billion. Ummmmmm. If I have an anthill of 10 million, and next year it is 25 million, doesn’t it make sense that if I eradicate the nest, more are going to die? Something about increased numbers increasing the odds of something happening, whether good or bad?
I think it’s a statistical issue of “more” natural disasters today. 48 years ago natural disasers weren’t being reported from remote places on the earth. A decade ago there were not computers like today to store the statistical data either. And, have the definitions changed with time?
Two things stand out in the article, fuzzy journalism, no surprise, and the UN on the hunt for another financial shakedown scheme.
Can we ever get that disgustingly corrupt useless pack of weasels off of our soil.
Check this UN insider’s memoir out:
Sanjuan soon discovered that incompetence, corruption, anti-Semitism, and outright criminality were rife throughout the UN Secretariat. Among the shady activities that he personally observed or documented were rigged bidding for major service contracts; drug transactions conducted in the UN’s parking garage; sale of shotguns and beryllium directly out of the UN building; ties to global organized crime figures; use of UN Information Centers and other agencies to disseminate anti-US and pro-PLO propaganda; systematic theft and abuse of UN facilities and budgets in East Africa; graft and corruption in Vienna; widespread sexual harrassment; use of the UN employee’s lounge to plan anti-Israel and anti-US activities by Muslim delegates; open celebration of 9/11 by said delegates in the halls of the UN; and inexplicable tolerance of all of the above on the part of the secretary general and the US government.
The “UNITED NATIONS’ as it currently functions is the true “axis of evil”
During that time the world population has gone from 3 billion to 6 billion. That may have a little bit to do with more people dying when a natural disaster hits.
maybe the yuen can convince Bush to declare war on gaia. They can attack Canada first since the cold fronts create the tornados and then nuke the atlantic ocean for causing hurricanes..

I have friend who is related to Butrus Butrus Gali, he has some very interesting things to say about the UN, none of them good!!!
The global warmeners are so-o-o-o predictably self-centred.
Good old Mother Earth has been bumping off all kinds of flora and fauna since, well, since time immemorial.
All of a sudden, we’ve cottoned on to the fact that “fauna” includes human beings as well…
Lesson Number One about the physical world:
Mother Nature doesn’t care.
And to think that without gloabl warming, Dorothy would have naver left Kansas and gone to OZ!!
Corrected version. And to think that without global warming, Dorothy would have never left Kansas, nor would we have spent Saturuday mornings watching the Wizard of OZ!! I’m off to see the Wizard…..
‘We believe it is necessary to set up a foundation to help the victims of natural disasters with the budget of 4 or 5 billion dollars,” Vos said.’
The guy thinks of himself as ‘WE’.
Well Vos, why did you not say so in the first place.
Everybody knows that money, especially the dollar money works charms within the UN.
It usually solves the world’s problems just thinking warm and fuzzy thoughts about them in the corridors of the UN, as long as the dollars keep coming in.
Ever notice when you offer food to a bum who’s begging for meal money, he’ll turn it down every time? It’s no different with relief organizations. After the tsunami, all the agencies were adamant that they had to have cash, not goods. The logic was it’s more efficient to take the money and buy goods locally than to ship goods around the world. That would make sense if there was actually some place that had any goods in the area. Most of the towns were washed out to sea.
scam. scam. scam.
Great post Ron in Kelowna, sums it all up, and to believe that there is anyone still stupid enough to fall for this scam, at least there was no internet in the 1600’s so the idiots that fell for the tulip bulb scam had a little more going for them than the idiots that fall for Stupidzuki and Fat Alberts hoax in todays world. But then again there was no 1500 dollar a month moronic reporters running around screaming wolf wolf wolf back then to recruit more morons!
The headline was probably just an awkward translation, but the comments at Tim Blair’s blog are a riot. Don’t read them unless you set down any beverages first.
Why does Pravda read so much like CBC?
flyboy said:”an infestation that occupies a paper thin layer on the surface of what remains mostly a ball-of-molten-rock-hows-that-for-global-warming.”
Sounds like dogma being recited, flyboy.
As a member of said “infestation” I have to say I don’t think much of your analogy. To me the article sounds more like some cuddled, coddled momma’s boy woke up one morning as a grown man, and suddenly realized the world wasn’t organized exclusively for his personal enjoyment.
Nature is inimical to human life, except in a rather small part of Africa. LESS people die from natural disasters (or disease, or plain old starvation) now than at any other time in history. This is due exclusively to the wealth generated by Capitalism coupled with the generosity of Western nations. Us, in fact.
There IS no global warming, its a propaganda device of the Left, created from whole cloth to destroy their political enemies. That’d be them eeeevile Capitalist guys who clean up after natural disasters all over the world without even being asked. Or thanked.
Phantom, you must be a carpenter or something, you seem to hit the nail on the head more often than not.
I normally, in fact very seldom do this, though I must say that you got the right drift.
