According to a memo to the park board from the staff released Thursday, “The overall policy question for the Board is whether it is good policy for Seattle Parks to continue public beach fires when the carbon … emissions produced by thousands of beach fires per year contributes to global warming.”

Re: Evertime someone roasts a marshmellow….Possibly true! And everytime a government moron boards a jet plane to attend a Kyoto style of meeting, that bear gets jet fuel fumes in his lungs!! Then the bear needs to devour a seal to gain his strength!!
Is there no common sense left in this world???
If there was even one iota of proof that carbon emissions do anything but contibute to the growth of the world’s flora, this would still be ridiculous.
I shake my head in dismay.
The problem these people really have with beach fires is that the fires encourage behaviours, such as sex and drinking, that the board members are unable to partake of, due to their neo-puritan collectivist sensibilities and/or the faintly musty odour that clings to their office- blanched hides.
The ‘back-to-the-cave-Dave’ crowd – what’s next in their drive to keep the panic machine alive.
The cave itself ? Displaces too many animals ?
Just to make things better. WA state set a record since 1894 for low temps.
Quick, get them Bonfires going! (-:
I am waiting for a study which indicates how much CO2 is contributed to human farting !
… perhaps the study can also point the way to the nearest cliff for all the true believers !
Excellent. The more inconvenienced and harassed regular folk are by the true believers, the sooner all this insanity will end.
The key here is that people have to suffer the consequences of the choices they make. You vote for the wrong person, it is key that you suffer for that choice, otherwise what will prevent you from making the same mistake twice?
If those people are PO’d at not being allowed bonfires, imagine how PO’d they’ll be when they find they’ve been banned because of a load of hysterical horse@#%t.
One volcano going off somewhere on the planet should wipe out all those “saved” beach fires. What shall be done about that? Put plugs in them I presume?
I seem to remember that Dr Suzuki having a fire at the beach. So it must be OK.
I seem to remember that Dr Suzuki having a fire at the beach. So it must be OK.
Warmonger desperation.
There is no other explanation.
Brian, Farts? Oh! don’t worry. They’re all over it and spending money on studying it too.
“I know a lot about gas,”
Get your fart meters ready.
Steffi in 2008 “Bring on the Carbon Tax”
Steffi in 2006
“A carbon tax is less effective than a carbon market at reducing emissions. Some
of my opponents for the Liberal leadership have suggested that a carbon tax would be
the most effective measure to curb climate pollution. This is simply bad policy, for the
following reasons:
1. A carbon tax is almost always implemented as a direct tax on fossil fuels. Given
the current price of these fuels, however, it is difficult to argue that a further price
signal will dampen consumption or shift demand.
2. A carbon tax is a flat tax – it costs each polluter a fixed amount per tonne of
emissions. Such a tax will not inflate with a bull market or recede in times of
difficulty. In the energy market, in particular, soaring prices make anything but a
prohibitively high tax a mere nuisance for large producers.
– 30 –
3. Finally, and most significantly, valuing reductions in emissions equally across all
sectors and industries eliminates the potential benefits to be had by maximizing
reductions where the cost is lowest. In a carbon market, those areas that
produce the least expensive real reductions will experience the highest level”

the primary component of farts is methane which is a green house gas. funny that to have a healthy diet you must eat lots of vegetables, however these same vegetables (beans, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli etc) can and do cause flatulence. (farts) which cause global warming/ climate change or whatever it is called, which is harmful to our health, so eat your vegetables and still be unhealthy. excuse me while I hit my head on the table, that might help it make sense.
also how do we get all the animals in the world to stop farting and emitting all this terrible methane gas.
mid island mike
During Earth Hour, I went around and turned on every light in the house. About 5 minutes in to the hour, the neighbor behind us called to complain about the lights — “It’s Earth Hour, for goodness sake!” My wife told her that we were not participating in that nonsense and the neighbor slammed down the phone in disgust. At precisely 9:00 pm (or was it 10:00? Whenever.) my wife went around and shut off all the lights other than the ones we would normally be using — just to make a fricken’ point.
Anyway, I mention this as Ms Environmentally Sensitive Whackjob is one of those people who fire up a @#$%ing chiminera in the backyard every night to burn yard waste and scrap wood. They’re often not evening sitting around the damn thing for the nightly bonfire.
I wish I could find a way to capture all of the carbon that they’re pumping into the atmosphere through the needless burning. Someone needs to shove that carbon where the compact flourescent bulb don’t shine!
Humph.
48,000 acres burned in the Cerro Grande fire in New Mexico in 2000, I lived close enough to see the smoke for weeks. Four years before that was the Dome fire, a nearby area, which burned 16,500 acres. Fire is a fact of life in a dry desert environment, more than once I had to leave work to check on my house. Southern California has brush fires every year.
Perhaps these typical lefty environmental knuckleheads in Seattle should do the math: the Mother Nature versus the Boy Scouts, campers, and beach camp fires, heck, make it every camp fire ever burned since the Stone Age scorecard.
It’s hard to believe that we as a society allow people with such little common sense have so much control over our lives.
I’d like to just say “what a bunch of retards” but then, we allow them to do it so who’s really stupid here?
When I last worked north of the Arctic Circle we had to carry guns as a protection against polar bears. I now know why: no wood up there for beach fires!
I thought it was Bs from leftards that was causing global warming. I have a solution for that!
I wonder if the Far Left will ever get around to realizing the effects of all those drive-thrus in terms of gaseous emissions. All those line-ups of idling Suburbans, Excursions, Crown Victorias, Ram 3500 Duallies, Mustang GTs and on and on…
I guess Al Gore and David Suzuki are hopelessly addicted to the drive-thru, too, and don’t want to give it up either! They haven’t given up anything else anyway!
More drive-thru’s mean shorter waits and less idling time!
Penny.
You’ll love this one.
They use to have a Boyscout camp on Catalina island off of CALIF. Few years ago the island went green to max and chased the Boyscouts away.
The Boy scouts use to clean out the dead underbrush. Well remember what happen just what a year ago when the island nearly went up in flames!
Eco-nuts are fools.
When I went to school,we were taught that it CANT RAIN unless there is smoke or dust in the air. There MUST be something for the drops to form on.Our cleaning of the atmosphere has resulted in bigger storms and more deluges and flooding. There are so many thousands that never took chemistry or physics that they can be told anything by so called “experts”and they will believe it.
In the spirit of uber-irony:

No shortage of dust, Spike 1:

But if you just leave the wood it rots -releasing the co2, it doesnt make any difference.
Not that I’m a warmer, I think its all crazy, this is the start of fascism.
These must be more followers of “Snow White” Lizzie and her Seven Climate Dwarfs: “Doc” Suzuki; “Sneezy” Monbiot; “Dopey” Layton; “Happy” Gore; “Sleepy” Dion; “Bashful” Strong; and “Grumpy” Mann.
When we find out which of the followers are merely mentally ill and which are the chronic fraudsters we can hold the mass trial.
Meanwhile, back in the real world:

A measly bonfire !? Just imagine how big a fire will be pushing this guys chariot;
[One person likely to occupy one of the two available seats on that flight is Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google. He made a $5 million investment in the company that will serve as a deposit on such a journey.] Herald Tribune
How many millions of litres does that puppy burn ? And just a two seater at that !
Say, isn’t that the same guy who darkened the google page on Earth day ?
Oh well, Russia has lots of Al Gore type carbon credits – a failed economic system has it’s rewards, ya see.
“It is a crazy world” has morphed into “it is a hypocritical world”.
http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/06/11/technology/soyuz.php
A convocation of dunces. But not as slimily evil as the EU:
“Dr Gottfried Heinrich, an Austrian, who in 2005 boarded a flight in Vienna carrying two tennis racquets. He was ordered off the plane because the EU has passed a regulation that tennis racquets are ‘prohibited items,’ while at the same time ruling that this fact was not to be published. An outraged Dr Heinrich went to the courts, to ask why he was obliged to be penalized by a ruling about which he and everybody else had never been informed. The court dug up some obscure part of some obscure document, and found against him.”
Ah, yes, the old “secret law” trick…
Polar bear + carbon = Black bear
noise
The noise from the greenie left will get louder as Americans start wakeing up to the political/scientific/financial scam AGW is. The “truth” that a fellow American (Gore, a presidential canditate) conned them into selling out their economy and security has the majority on the left in denial.
Yet, rational people against AGW are labeled deniers.
The thought that Gore laid one of the biggest unwarranted guilt trips on the American psyche, without a robust counter attack from America herself is scary. The idea that the US screwed up the planet because it is the strongest economic country in the world, and only the US could “save” the world from its evil success is the legacy given to Obama form Gore.
Under the cloak of the UN’s IPCC was Russias Chinas Indonesia Brazils Europes and the continent of Africa collective guilt in AGW mitigated so that only the US should be the key resorce in paying off its guilt financialy.
That an international trading mechanism (Carbon offsets) was then established to pay off this “sin” (economic prosperity) was pushed by Gore and others is repulsive.
Even more revolting is the ultimate fraud used to sell it,AGW.
Beware the wrath of an entitled, yet defeated US Democratic presidential canditate.
Thats the US version.
Tell me why Canada is sucked into this mess?
Dion and Suezuci want to emulate an American like Gore? Or, there loathing of America is so great they would rather see this country killed economically to prove a badly mistaken point.
When the one-tonne challenge started, I went and built a firepit in the backyard so I could produce my ‘compensating’ one tonne of carbon emissions.
To my dismay I discovered later that wood is considered ‘carbon-neutral’ and therefore in the Suzuki world, you are neither charged or credited with carbon emissions from a wood fire.
Oh well. I still enjoy the fire pit!
So the idiots in Seattle are not even aware that bonfires are carbon-neutral in the world of carbon emissions and therefore should be allowed.
The greatest fear on by Lefties is that somewhere, someone out there is enjoying life.
It seems that the only thing that will please the left is if we all just suicide in some carbon friendly way.
But then that is pretty much what we are doing anyway.
Screw them all. When the earth can no longer support human life, it won’t. Then we will have earth minus humans. No problem.
In the big picture, humans are quite irrelevant anyway except in the minds of the Left where they are the center of the universe and Gaia along with huge government is their mommy. Hey, that’s two mommies, just like a lot of lesbian households. Must be good.
At least the Americans will have to stop laughing at how stupid we are about global warming. These people are seriously stupid.
I can understand why they so fear weenie roasts.
“Tell me why Canada is sucked into this mess?”
AGW is a tool, and some tools are very versatile. In Canada’s case it is about the redistribution of wealth from the west to central Canada. Tax the west and then redistribute the revenue equally amongst Canadians, who happen to live where? This is the message that Dion will be preaching this summer, ” Carbon tax means more money for Central Canada”, as soon as the people of Quebec do the math they will vote Liberal on mass. The Conservatives can not match the $ figures in bribes when you consider the C2 tax on the west.
In short AGW is a money manufacturing tool, and it is employed by those who wish to make others pay them money for nothing, and we have allot of those people here in Canada.
If first we killed the polar bear, and then roasted it on the bonfire, wouldn’t that even things out?
“If first we killed the polar bear, and then roasted it on the bonfire, wouldn’t that even things out?”
Depends if it is served rare or well done.
While I like the cleverness of Y2Kyoto, Y2K was also definitely a problem. The insurance company I worked for starting fixing the problem in 1985 – I was a programmer then, given that task for the group health and dental systems. If they hadn’t, then their interest payment calculations would have gone haywire and they, like most financial companies, would have gone into chaos and probably ruin on Jan 1 2000 as they suddenly would owe anyone who had a loan from them 100 years of interest instead of collecting interest. I remember at the time thinking that if I were a gambling man I should take out 100 small loans from the worst managed companies I could think of. I didn’t hear of anybody getting rich that way.
Anyway, Y2K was a problem that was anticipated and largely solved – and had it not been anticipated would have been the death of most financial institutions and may have caused completely unnecessary suffering.
So when you say Y2Kyoto are you really saying you hope that this problem will be handled equally well? That you acknowledge the problem and honor those who are sensibly trying to tackle it?
Ken
The greatest fear on by Lefties is that somewhere, someone out there is enjoying life.
John V, you nailed it. When your life is dedicated to toiling and suffering in your hemp home-loom-spun loin cloth for Utopia under the mantle of the Deep Thinkers – Karl Marx, not Groucho(sadly), directing your efforts – sans trans-fats, campfires and a neighborhood bar that doesn’t wants to hear your diatribe, then, add suffering the daily degradation that the Great Unwashed aren’t appreciating you, where is the joy?
Lefties aren’t entirely joy killers, there’s joy in the HRC tribunal conviction stats, humanity being decimated by GW and taxes keeping joyless dull brains with an income stream on the public service dole or in academia or in the MSM.
i swear these assholes have to be eliminate, permanently. how long can sane people survive this crap without going insane?
It really is past time we simply tell these hysteric control freaks to F-Off. Fire them and marinalize their silly ideologue agendas and keep them far away from authority over sane people.
Fat Cat, please don’t post URLs pointing us in that fool Jonh Daly’s direction.
All that troll is after is attention. He has absolutely nothing worthwhile to contribute to…
anything.
Maybe we can all contribute to a class action lawsuit charging the AHRC with violation of charter rights
Soooo…here in the Vancouver area, where we had an unprecedented 15 snowstorms last winter (Gawd…I hate shovelling “global warming) and now, with the coldest May on record, and being in the middle of June and still hearing the furnace kick on in the morning because it is so %$#&^%*% cold….we get this. And some of our idiot city councillors are contemplating banning all fireplaces..wood-burning as well as natural gas…
Here’s a thought…they’ll pry the firewwood from my cold, dead hands…..well, you know the rest…
A promise…when I receive the much-vaunted $100 cheque from the BC government to ostensibly compensate me for the ridiculous carbon tax that they are planning to impose, I will take it outside, set it alight, and enjoy the sight of the CO2 from the burning of that cheque waft into the atmosphere…
Because with gas prices here being $148.6 per litre, I’m not convinced that another 2.5 cents per litre is going to mean much.
And…given that I filled up my boat yesterday, to the tune of $635, I’m thinking that the enormous reduction in the incomes of those folks, running destination marinas and waterfront hotels out here….well, they are about to go broke. Because there is NO way that our US tourists, valued as they may be, are coming here, given the fuel prices…
Geez…the Law of Unintended Consequences always rules…now I’m waiting for a government bail-out package for the about to be bankrupt tourism operators….it’s inevitable…
And guess what…I’ll be paying for the bail-out package…
Actually…on reflection..I’m NOT going to burn the $100 cheque.
Instead, I am going to cash it and then deposit the full amount into Kate’s paypal account.
Reason: It goes for a better and more effective cause…and I LOVE the irony…
“when I receive the much-vaunted $100 cheque from the BC government to ostensibly compensate me for the ridiculous carbon tax”
Ahhh Gordo’s eco-bribe. When that is quickly spent AND when everyone starts actually paying the tax, Gordo is going to feel some heat.
I know some people who loathe the NDP, but if they promise to kill the tax, they’ll give them their vote. They hate the tax more than they hate the economy killing policies of the NDP. The thinking is they can’t do too much damage in one term.
So much for Gordo’s conversion on the road to Kyoto being a winning policy.
From the Canadian Press;
“There is the possibility that organized crime is trying to infiltrate the government,” Liberal Leader
Stephane Dion told reporters.
Hey Stephanie D-Yawn, Gomery called you Lieberals “criminally oganized”, organized crime was the government and is no longer the government, but as you said Stephanie “we have to get back in power as soon as possible”.
Global Warming is a scam, the evidence is constantly mounting up against it, why do the UN, so called, scientists continue to refuse to share their data with anyone outside of their circle?
Marshmallow! Marshmallow! Here I thought this post was about the US Congress… Seems they all need Viagra to do anything useful.
