Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

The mask, she slips!
Where, I ask you, do we find such people?
Get used to high oil prices. Oilman T. Boone Pickens was on Glenn Beck Thursday evening and said the reason is simple. The demand for oil is greater than the supply. Bringing new oil supplies on stream combined with altermative energy sources will help meet the rising demand for energy, he said, but the days of cheap oil are history. Earlier this year Pickens predicted that oil would hit $150 a barrel duirng 2008. Looks like a solid bet.
If we think we have high oil prices now, just let government run it. These are the folks that run Canada’s medicare system. If government ran the Sahara, there would be sand rationing.
Me thinks it was a strong message to the Gores, Greenpeace and all the environuts to get out of progress way…
…Then the American version of Marlene Jennings could’nt spit out “nationalise”: Hang on if Barrack Hussein takes over…Hugo Chavez will have competition
Then the American version of Marlene Jennings could’nt spit out “nationalise”
That’s not quite right. Listen to her again. She could not spit out the work “socialise”!
Heh. She wants to control the Federal Reserve too.
Ahhh yes. Just think: Congress, in charge of the oil companies.
$10 gas would be right around the corner. What a Great way to pay for all the ‘universal’ social services!
Such as Welfare, where many people would be after those prices came into effect.
And i thought all of the moonbats were a sole possesion of canada.
Note the two people beside in camera view laughing
‘Tis a day for reminicsing. Was I the only one that ass-u-med the government involvment in Petro-Can was going to keep the prices down?
Yes I was naive in the good old days…I’ll fess up…I have voted Liberal and NDP in the past.
I’m over it.

Funny apparently she was a teacher before she was in Congress.
She doesn’t seem to have any knowledge of the US Constitution, the English language (ie.socialize instead of nationalize), history or economics.
Great that these unproductive jerks have this kind of power over productive people.
T.Boone has more knowledge in his pinky than congress.

Yes George, it’s called getting rich off of “psychology”. WOW!
So, how much cheaper is gasoline at the (notionally non-profit) Co-Op stations?
Half-price? A third less?
No??
Remarkably forthright for a s’s’s’socialist.
Heh heh…she thought “the guvmint will take it over” sounded better and different than “socialist”. Wotta laff.
Big Sister!!!!
just another commie. the gun toting citizens of the u.s. surely will not allow bastards like that to take over and ruin their country.
That’s it. I am convinced. She will find more oil that Shell will. Oh, no, wait, her appointee, selected through a process of affirmative action, will find more oil than shell. With a little hope.
OWG:
well, that will be the end of America. The socialists just love steeling other people’s property.
Maxine Waters, America’s Hedy Fry. I wonder if they share Ghost mail if not the same delusions?
JMD @ 3:35, one reason supply is not meeting demand is that the 10 largest “oil companies” in the world are state owned, and therefore corrupt, incompetent and bent to political, rather than economic, ends. Putin, Chavez, Saudi king 7 hangers-on, the iran crazy.
That, I syuppose Democrat, woman, probably also wants a carbon tax, and yet she’s demanding cheaper gasoline; obviously she can’t tie two shoe laces.
Lickmuffin @3:58, yes, that is the word she stopped saying half-way through.
Socialized medicine.
Socialized gasoline.
If a republican had said that it would be front page news.
OT but,
Look how the media is running with a stmt by Hillory today re getting out of the race. Many democratic races have not been decided till June, her husbands, and Robert Kennedy was killed in June. I think cnn is trying to say she is sending a message to someone to kill BHO.
She was just stating a fact.
I liked the other congressmen holding their guts in to keep from laughing aloud!
She sounds like Mugabe’s Sista……….didn’t work with the farmers in Zimbabwe very well, but who said the socialist agenda lurking in the shadows of the modern American congress worries about fact’s and recent history. Progressive, Affirmative, bailout and handout are all the pet phrases we need to know!
Maxine Calvert needs to learn the word “nationalize”. Perhaps the former owners of PCS can tell her what it means.
C’mon everybody…why are you so down on her idea?
Even though socialism has failed over and over again, with disastrous consequences everytime it’s been tried…this time we’ll do socialism right!
It’s the refining capacity, stupid.
There have been no new refineries built in the US since 1978.
The existing capacity cannot keep up with demand.
Even though there is plenty enough supply, if you can’t refine the stuff, it can’t get to the gas stations.
Too simple for the marxist congressman to understand.
Can you say liberation theology?
Welcome to Canada …. anything to declare ?
Save me sister Maxine, oh, oh, save me…
The word you’re missing is Socialize, honey…
There have been no new refineries built in the US since 1978
Set you free,
We had the answer to AT&T, baby Bells!
Big Oil needs to be broken up 3 ways… Exploration, Refining, & Resale. They (big Oil)are Corrupt and proud of it!
BTW: Pickens is a bottom feeder.
Shaw:
Other than the fact I doubt you’re qualified enough to judge another person’s corruption, what would be your remedy for a shortage of refinery capacity?
I’m sure you can come up with an answer … if you can get off your high horse long enough.
In the early 70’s, the price of oil went from $3 a barrel to $30 a barrel in less than a year.
In the past year, the price of a barrel of oil has doubled.
300ml of Coke … $1.50
300ml of water … $1.50
One litre of gasoline (that would be more than three times the above examples_ …. $1.28.
There’s only one way to bring the price down and that’s to relieve the bottleneck at the refinery level.
I’m sure the commie congreswoman would volunteer to have a refinery built in her home riding, once she pulls the Chavez.
Wow! Tommy Douglas reincarnated as an African American Woman.
The Final Word goes to Manning:

I wouldn’t dismiss her offhand. When people start to feel desparate, they tend to turn left. Plenty of Canadian and American tourists see how cheap gas is in Mexico. Don’t be too surprised if an American version of PetroCan shows up some day. Of course the end result will be the same, total failure.
There are plenty of socialists waiting in the wings for a national disaster to make their policies look attractive.
Refinery capacity is the problem? Are you saying that if we could refine more crude the price of a barrel of oil would come down? Sure there is a shortage on the refining end, but that doesn’t explain oil at $130.
What does explain oil at today’s levels if the wild increase in demand from India/China and the massive incompetence of Big Oil……. Big Oil being owned by the government. Last I looked, private oil companies only control 10% of the oil being pumped out of the ground as we speak. Big Oil run by Sovereign Governments worldwide. I feel sorry for the likes of Exxon, cause they shoulder the wrath and blame for running an industry as efficient and creative as Canada Post.
Case in point, at $130 the US could recover 20% of the trillion barrels trapped in US oil shale. But nooooooo. Congress just deferred any development of that resource for a year, so that they can do “environmental studies”…..gag. If they mined this resource, the US would have one of the biggest reserves on the planet.
Anyway, lack of refining capacity is not the reason crude has doubled in the last year.
“There are plenty of socialists waiting in the wings for a national disaster to make their policies look attractive.”
So true, I’ve got my “How do you like capitalism now?” t-shirt ready to go. But can’t you good folks be a tad more nuanced in your feeble attacks or is everything to the left of you all the same? I mean comparing this woman to Tommy Douglas… Please!
Anyways, at least I try to keep my mental rightards separate and distinct. There are trailer trash inbred rightards. There are mullit wearing country music loving wife beating rightards, closely related to their shorter haired gun loving, war mongering wife beating cousins. Then there is the religious right, made up mostly of illiterates who’ve never actually read the bible.
And then there are some rightards who actually dwell in cities, more precisely in suburbia. These are typically of the male persuasion, usually nerdy, socially awkward and not very sexually experienced. They have no sense of style, no sense of refined taste culinary, cultural or otherwise (in fact Hockey Night in Canada chomping on Costco chicken wings drinking “a cold pop” is about as refined as it gets). They usually shop at stores like Walmart for dockers slacks (which they often wear very high on the waist), golf/polo tops and deck shoes.
As well, there is a very rare breed of conservative: fairly literate, sometimes with a university degree, hateful and resentful at having to share and play with others who are not exactly like them. This breed tends to be either socially progressive or libertarian, and can sometimes utter intelligent statements.
You see a whole rainbow of rightards. Maybe you could adopt the rainbow as your symbol and march in your own pride parade celebrating your diversity. I can see the floats now. Squares sitting awkwardly in front of their TV sets, burly men in wife beaters screaming at their women, shaved goons stroking their firearms, women on all fours scrubbing a kitchen floor, a bunch of white guys beating up immigrants, homosexuals, and first nations people. Just a little nuance, that’s all I ask.
RW:”The socialists just love steeling[sic] other people’s property.”
I’m assuming you meant stealing others’ property. in this regard look no further than your treasured imperialist expansion of England and industrial capitalism for a most heinous history of “expropriation” (what white people call stealing) of land, usurpation of common lands, and forcible robbery of land.
That long post sure is stupid.
Bill Stewart: What about all the conservatives that own all the business in this country, the actual people that make it all happen, you forgot to mention us in your moronic tirade. You are some sort of trained ape of the left.
After all that rant Bill Stewart, the only true statement I can see is…RW:”The socialists just love steeling[sic] other people’s property.”
Ha Haaa Bill Stewart thats really funny! let me try.
After Bill Stewart finished his exciting email he found he had ejaculated, quickly he showered, pulled on his tightest leather capri pants, his I heart Ignatieff T shirt, some diamante thongs and headed for the local bath-house. He regaled his fellow leftards with the story and they all shrieked “you go girl-friend”…………..easy is it not, and adds not one iota to the conversation.
We have been hearing “demand is greater than production” for quite some time now, does anyone know where the numbers can be found to prove that? From more than one source if possible.

Not only are we not opening new refineries, we dismantle and export refineries.
Anyone else remember the Turbo Refinery that opened around 1982 at Balzac – just north of Calgary?
It lasted about 10 years before it was shut down. (I believe Turbo Resources got into financial difficulties)
It is mentioned in this list of Canadian Refinery Closures:

And where did it end up?

That was pretty funny, actually. Did you do a Search-and-Replace?
UltraEdit makes some pretty good software with lots of user-configurable options.

I can give you one Example of Price fixing in Canada:
REPORT ON NATURAL GAS DISTRIBUTION
IN BRITISH COLUMBIA
Hansard –Tuesday Sept 25,1973
MR. WALLACE: I’d like to ask the Attorney General, in the light of the very important report on natural gas distribution in the province and the fact that throughout the report there is frequent mention made of one very important solution as through federal action, and since it would appear from public statements that the government has decided to go the other route of taking provincial control of the asset in the ground, would he give us some idea, (1) if he is in fact approaching the federal government directly and, if so, by what mechanism will he travel to Ottawa; (2) or has it been decided without question that the provincial route as described by a Crown agency has been decided without even going to Ottawa and asking them to invoke regulation 11 (a), which clearly, in the Energy Act, gives the federal government power to raise the price as is outlined in the report?
HON. A.B. MACDONALD (Attorney General): In answer to the Hon. Member, about a month ago Donald Macdonald, the national Energy Minister, was out here and in my office and we discussed in a general way this problem. Prior to the issue of the Energy Board report, I sent a copy to the Hon. Donald Macdonald and invited his comments. I’m waiting for those comments. I’m giving him time to read the report and, if any area of co-operation requires a visit, that visit will be made either by myself or some other Minister of this government.
Note:Dave Barrett made a deal with West Coast Transmission (owned by Oil Giant Phillips) that BC would take ownership of Nat Gas @ the Well head, and then sell it back to Phillips @ the Border . The Price of Natural Gas for American Consumers went from .31 to $2.20. This money transfer was handled between BC Petroleum Company (BCPC) & West Coast Transmission (Pete).
The CEO of West Coast Transmission ( an American) wrote a Book on his relationship with Barrettt and Nat Gas Pipe lines. I read that book but don’t recal the title or auther (Canadian Library) This has connections to the Alaskan Pipeline & Foot Hills
Handsard –Tuesday June 26/1979
HON. MR. HEWITT: I apologize to the member for New Westminster if he felt I was straying beyond the bounds of the debate. However, you will recall that the Leader of the Opposition covered all these points. The Premier also made a comment, inviting me, as Minister of Energy, to assist the Leader of the Opposition in understanding just how effective this government was in the field of energy. That’s what Fin attempting to do.
I wanted to say, in regard to BCPC, about which the Leader of the Opposition said: “That vehicle has achieved $227 million Well, I’m the minister responsible for that agency, as you well know. The Leader of the Opposition has stated that if it wasn’t for that agency, we wouldn’t have the $227 million revenue for the province of British Columbia. Well, you know that’s not right. Mr. Member. You know very well it’s a tax-collecting marketing agency which assesses levies. It buys the gas and gets the revenues.
MR. COCKE: How did they do it before? It assesses nothing.
HON. MR. HEWITT: Well, Mr. Member, you know full well you can do it that way, you can go through a royalty system; you can go through taxation: you can go through anything. You know that. You know you didn’t invent the wheel, Mr. Member. You know it’s a vehicle to be used, and you know it darned well.
HON. MR. BENNETT: You know who set it up’? The people from Westcoast Transmission set it up.
Note: Mr Bennett was the Premier of BC at that time. The West Coast Transmission was a subsidiary owned by Phillips (PETE). The Laws of the USA would not allow such price fixing.. but in Canada they do anything they want.
Other closures(source 3w.mcteague.ca/PDF%20files/gasreport.pdf)Report of the Liberal Committee on Gasoline Pricing in Canada, Ottawa June 1998. Can’t say we didn’t know it wasn’t coming, no matter what the source. Nite all.
There has been a steady decline in the number of refineries operating in Canada, from 44
in 1960 to 18 by 1998. As indicated in the following chart, there were a number of
refinery closures in the 1990’s:
Canadian Refinery Closures: 1991-97
Year Closed Company Location Crude Capacity (m3/d)
1991 Petro-Canada Taylor, B.C. 2,460
1992 Turbo Resources Balzac, Alta. 4,565
1993 Petro-Canada Port Moody, B.C. 5,902
1993 Petro-Canada Mississauga, Ont. 6,600
1993 Shell Canada North Burnanby, B.C. 3,820
1994 Ultramar Canada Halifax, N.S. 3,498
1995 Imperial Oil Port Moody, B.C. 7,000
1996 Imperial Oil Normand Wells, NWT 600
Source: Oil Week Magazine, August 4, 1997
BTW. Read the whole thing if you wish. Remember this was ten years ago so please don’t try and pin this on today’s government.
From the summary;
“Canadian consumers have made it clear in survey after survey that they will accept paying
a reasonable price for gasoline. What they will not accept are deficiencies within our
laws that fail to provide adequate protection for their interests.
The Committee believes that there have been occasions where governments have not
lived up to their responsibilities. Nonetheless, Canadian consumers do have access to
one of the world’s lowest prices for gasoline. This present reality however could change
if concrete action is not taken to address the problems in the industry that have been
identified by the Committee.
Even though Canadians enjoy access to relatively cheaper gasoline in comparison to the
rest of the world, the Committee believes this may not always be the case. There is a
possibility that at some time in the future Canadians may be paying much more for gasoline
than they have ever before.”
