The federal minister in charge of Canada’s multiculturalism file cautioned an anti-racism conference Friday against exploiting the power of human rights commissions to silence offensive speech.
Addressing the annual gathering of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) in Calgary, Jason Kenney, a Cabinet member and Secretary of State for Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity, labelled “dangerous” the “illiberal tactics” employed by some activists in the name of tolerance.
“I think it’s very important for those of us engaged in anti-racism efforts to ensure the tactics we use, the approaches that we take, are consistent with respect for the liberal values of the Charter of Rights, of the Canadian constitutional framework, of our democratic parliamentary institutions,” Mr. Kenney told the crowd of about 100.
And in front of a hostile crowd, no less. Get a load of this;
During a question-and-answer session, attendees pressed Mr. Kenney on his government’s decision to withdraw from the planned 2009 sequel to the UN’s World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination and Xenophobia in Durban, South Africa, held seven years ago and marked by widespread shows of anti-Semitism. One accused the Conservatives of following the Americans’ lead of “support for Israel.”

The Canadian ‘Human Rights’ Commission is all about money — preserving phony jobs for useless bureacrats and generating obscene legal fees for lawyers unencumbered by any hint of a nagging conscience.
Canada is home to the most polite folks on the planet. That Canada would need these fascist thought police is laughable.
Canada’s problem is hardly that she is plagued by “hate speech”. Rather she is being destroyed by excessive politeness. Her complacency led to a lack vigilance vital to protect her basic human rights from the opportunistic wolves.

It is also exactly what you said about needing laws, to change people to what you believe to be the truth, that people do not see good mulims. You want to impose your beliefes on others. Also maybe when the good muslims you talk about start denouncing muslim terrorists and the like of El Masiry we might start thinking there are some good muslims.

Ms. Kermani was responding to a story in the Financial Post last week that quoted court documents detailing her alleged three-year campaign of harassment against Loblaw’s management, including death threats and surprise visits to executives’ homes. She could not be reached for comment when the story ran.
This week, Ms. Kermani disputed court documents filed by Loblaws that accuse her of phoning a Loblaw executive with an Italian surname and threatening that she had “taken care of lots of Italians” while repeatedly slamming what the manager thought sounded like a meat cleaver against a cutting board.

Ms. Kermani also said an alleged threat to another executive that she would “cut his tail off and shoot him in the head” was an old Iranian expression, not an actual threat.
Ms. Kermani said she is appealing court orders that found she breached a peace bond ordering her to have no contact with Loblaw management.
Loblaw, she said, made up the allegations because the company owes her money for cutting off a contract to supply chicken and other products prepared under Islamic guidelines.
“If they want to terminate my business, then they have to pay me,” she said, adding that the company was turned upside down by “internal competition.”

Hassan’s summary of his Muslim religion and the many differences between our cultures is interesting.
I just want to add that he forgot to mention the major difference we place on education in our two societies.
Most Western countries try to educate all of its citizens to the best of their abilities.
In todays techno world it is important to utilize every mind in the country to the best advantage to help the nation grow and prosper.
I have never understood any mentality that forbids or restricts half of its citizens, ie women, from adding to the general good of the nation, like the Muslim religion apparently does.
This attitude may be changing but there still seems a lot of resistance to it.
BTW, here is an interesting comparison in education priorities.
Out of Hassan’s 1.5 bil Muslims there have been only 6 Nobel prize winners.
In contrast, the 15 million Jews have been awarded about 165 Nobel prizes.
