Invented by Swiss chemists – tested by American animators.

For reasons I can’t quite put my finger on, this is not suitable for children.

  1. By golly Moe, I think you beat me at 1930s cheesy horror flick trivia, I’ll bet you’re right, it’s not the Wolfman, it’s Mr. Hyde. That also fits the theme of the cartoon – Dr. Jekyll drank a potion and turned into Mr. Hyde.

  2. Did you know that the song LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS is the code word for LSD i mean LUCY,SKY,DIAMONDS is the intials for LSD

  3. Plover: Bullcrap. That myth was debunked, but you’ve definitely nailed the quality of facts around here. If you’ve heard it from your neighbour’s plumber’s dog then it’s true, and it deserves its place on SDA.

  4. How’s the reading comprehension anon?
And how do you refer to lysergic acid diethylamide when you don’t want people to know what you’re talking about.

  5. richfisher: Do you even know what ‘reading comprehension’ means? Where did I misread something?
The story about the title of the song is untrue. It was denied by McCartney and this has been recorded everywhere, from Wikipedia to Rolling Stone magazine. What reason would the Beatles have to lie about the song, given their well-known drug use and the attitude of the times? Why would they emphatically deny it, rather than just deny it with a ‘wink and a smile’?
Again, however, this is what passes for research around here. If it agrees with your world view it gets and instant pass. If it is in anyway in opposition, it gets picked apart in minute, unrelated and trivial detail.

  6. You can find filth anywhere, if you look hard enough. It’s just a toon. In any event, I would guess that in the 1930’s, it was a big hit!! As for LSD and the relation with “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” I think someone is “hal-lou-sin-aching”

  7. yes McCartney denied it ,but it was a Lennon penned song.
they rarely wrote songs together. it was a business arrangement that they were always credited on the early songs as Lennon-McCartney.

  8. The “code word” probably most used by druggies, although originally attributed to the Beatles, now has nothing to do with them.
Plover didn’t say the Beatles said or meant anything by their song in his first comment.
(Although I think Mcartney was less than truthful)
Drug user lingo, is the topic ie. “code word.”
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is what lots, probably most, druggies say when they don’t want to be discovered when they order or talk about LSD .
Druggies do not ever mention the product by name unless they have no fear of getting caught, but then they wouldn’t require a ‘code word’ would they?
    Geez.
Try re-reading Spurwings comment now that it’s been spelled out for you.

The trees! The trees! They look like they are giving you the finger!
    Subliminal suggestion in its infancy.

  11. Gotta admit Kate. I was wondering what was so damn funny about that after watching it about six times, and then it smucked me! Selling, basically tap water,to unsuspecting suckers! At grossly high prices! Now you know why they named it “Evian” bottled water. It’s “Naive” spelled backwards.

  12. How does she do it? Run a 30’s cartoon with a few cryptic comments about it and Zot!! We’re off and running. Gotta love it!!
    All Hail Amazing Kate!!!

  13. When the Sgt Peppers album came out, the unanimous consensus among people in my high school classes was the Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was about LSD. The whole album was quite psychedelic in comparison the the Beatles earlier work. Another track from this album which appeared drug inspired was “A day in the Life”. This was, after all, the 1960’s and psychedelic drug facilitated consciousness expansion was widely practiced. To say that Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds has no relation to a very interesting class of lysergic acid amides makes about as much sense as saying that the League for Spiritual Discovery was just a bible study group.
