  1. Ol’ Don is too polite. No doubt the tards at the CBFC will think otherwise though.
    🙂

  2. Great post Kate for your SDA blog.
    God bless you Don Cherry!!
You spoke for me last night Don, on CBC no less, first time in memory I got my state coerced money’s worth!!
( And FYI, – My Oxford MP, Dave MacKenzie is now a committed SDA viewer !!!)
Just a note to all you lefties out there, some of my neighbours and our own porch lights burned brightly in Woodstock Ontario last night all through the 8-9 hour!

  3. At least one Kingstonian(beside me)has it right. Could not have said it better myself!
    Cherry for PM(when Harper retires).

  4. I love Don Cherry for dishing it right back! Is there a history to the ‘title’?Did Don Cherry actually give Suzuki that label?

  5. I saw that blub on HNIC…Don was too reserved. He should have told the fruit fly to sell off one of his carbon-sucking mansions before he preaches restraint to working class folks.
KOOK?…far too kind Don…you are a gentleman sir.

  6. That video makes you guys proud of Cherry? Exactly what is it about Cherry in that video that didn’t sound like a dumbass jock in high school…including the stupidity of what he said?

  7. Looking at some who have received the order of Canada, gotta wonder why Don Cherry doesn’t merit one. Would it have anything to do with the politics of the politically correctoids?
Don should have had the last foof-off in the video.

  8. anon,
Cherry is no dummy, he just puts in on to piss off grand intellectuals like you.
He is right on. Suzuki is a left wing kook.

  9. Whoa!!!1!!!ONE!!! Don made fun of a nerd, and sounded dumb doing it!!!! Wish we could ALL sound that ridiculous, right everyone?!? Am I right?!?

  10. Last I checked most houses had a heating system that functions independently of the light bulbs so I’m not sure what kind of point this is making. Torontonians can’t participate in Earth hour because their main source of heat is their lighting?!?! That’s what Don was implying, and most of you all just cheered on that flawed logic.
In any regard, the idea that anyone here is holding Don Cherry up on a pedestal for anything other than hockey is hilarious, but quite telling and fitting all the same.

  11. JW: BAHHAAA HAAA AHAAAAAA!! Yep, Don Cherry is a veritable Athenian, he is. Right up there with Socrates. Oh yeah, he is the intellectual vanguard, and the dumb jock impression is all a put-on.
What Don doesn’t know about anything not involving hockey could fill *city blocks*, I’m quite sure. He’s parroting the lamest, most dumbass talking point in existence…what gives you the impression he even gives a sh*t enough to organize a put-on?

  12. Hey anon
Why would we be proud of what Cherry said about Mr. Left wing kook Hypocrit? Some of us think the answer is self evident. Preaching from his massive mansions in Pt Grey or Quadra Island, Suzukook hasn’t practiced science in over 40 years, plus he’s a “geneticist” not a climatologist or biologist or photoplankton researcher. You are being laffed at because you are a typical vacuous liberal who is “comforted” by ridiculously useless efforts to simply blow money on things like One-Tonne challenges and Earth Hour….just to make you feel morally superior, give the “appearance” of doing something while really doing absolutely nothing.

  13. steve…I guess you missed it: Don Cherry was dissing the global warming fear…furnaces-cold oud side-not warm in Toronto.
    Enough details for you?
    Watch it again.

  14. OH PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE let Don Cherry be nominated CPC leader, and then have him run for PM. The DEATH of the CPC would be imminent, and then we could go back to having *real* conservatives in Parliament, rather than these hackjob, glassy-eyed, hypocritically moronic neocon knock-offs.

  15. “Last I checked most houses had a heating system that functions independently of the light bulbs… Posted by: steve
Well, Steve, you better check again. The heating system and the lighting system are integrally interconnected. You do not draw heat for 30 minutes and then stop; you draw heat until a predefined temperature has been reached. Light bulbs are a non-trivial source of heat in the overall system.
The heating system sends a signal for heat based on the temperature of the room. If heat-generating light bulbs are removed from the equation, heat will be called for earlier, and more heat will be needed and drawn from the heating system.
So, shutting off the lights, and other heat-generating objects, such as TVs, dishwashers, washers, dryers, etc., is mostly an exercise in feeling good.

  16. NIN: Wow, I see your point. Consider my mind *CHANGED*. You are SO smart, how can anyone argue with you?
I’m not even doing a \sarcasm, because I’m so totally serious. You should travel the world spreading your smartness.

  17. Anon
Leave it alone already. You have now ensured that you are likely the greater KOOK of the two. What a bunch of *real* drivel.

  18. I noticed the green grass and trees behind the hypocrite and that his apparel was a shirt only, with vest. (Wearing three layers and gloves, I was quite chilly outside today.) And this arrogant, self-referential prig has the audacity to lecture the rest of us on our carbon footprint!
Well done, Don Cherry, calling a spade a spade–and, under the circumstances, with such self-restraint and politesse!
TVO had a show–by candlelight: sheesh–the other night. When the elite, all lefty, I believe, guests were asked–very sincerely by the host–what they’d do, personally, to change their lifestyles to be more “green”, virtually, to a person, they said, “CUT DOWN on my air travel”. Isn’t that impressive? That’s a luxury that most of us don’t even have to think about. (I last flew a decade ago: to one place and back.) And the irony of the situation was completely lost on all of them: both the host and the self-referential, navel gazing, goodie-two-shoes guests. Good Lord, deliver us!
The elitist, wealthy likes of Al Gore, who owns a carbon credit company, David Suzuki, and the Hollywood crowd, all of whose carbon footprints make the rest of ours look like pygmies in comparison, are the last people who should be hectoring us about changing lifestyle. For them, that might mean one less vehicle or one less Riviera vacation–“Just look at what a good boy/girl I am for making this sacrifice [sic]!”
These people need to get real. As it is, the optics are very bad and I think these spoiled brats will soon be doing their pet cause more harm than good. ‘Can’t wait!

  19. NIN…please don’t feed the leftard trolls. It just makes them/it feel like somebody is actually analyzing their stupitity. If they are so self rightous about GW,they wouldn’t be generating GHG by using their computers, would they?

  20. One radio station here in Edmonton was calling for people to have earth hour at 7:00 because the Oilers game was at 8:00. Too funny, it’s still light as day here at 7:00.

  21. Apparently, Dion read a speech in Toronto by candlelight during earth hour. Changing the lighting won’t help understand what he’s trying to say. LOL

  22. I think it’s fair to say that I would vote for Don Cherry as Prime Minister. But it’s not a new thought for me. I remember him making a comment about some retard Quebec athlete not wanting to carry the Canadian flag in Kyoto. There was a big stink about that comment too, but he was dead on the money. I saw a number of comments on the left wing sites calling Don a right wing nut job, and making moral equivalence with his support of the troops. Are these people stupid or just mentally retarded?
Also, having grown up in Kingston makes me especially proud of Don Cherry, nothing but liberals in that town. (except for kingstonlad)
    Don Cherry for Prime Minister.

  23. Justhinkin (uhhh…no you’re not):
MMMMFFFF….BWAAMMMFMFMF……BWAAHAAAA HAAAA AHAAAAAAH HAHAAAAA!!!!! I tried to hold that one in, but to no avail. The comments are just so insightful, and not at all disingenuous and hasty over-generalizations. Yes, and what I just said was not at all smug.
You guys don’t seriously think that moderate supporters of sustainable development plans and environmental initiatives actually believe that the whole economy should be shut down and that we should live in caves. I have to assume that you are capable of seeing the difference between justified, metered, controlled and (dare I say it?!?) CONSERVATIVE use of energy resources. If I didn’t, I would have no choice but to think that you are irretrievably stupid, say, were you to suggest that the ‘self-righteous’ should turn off their computers if they were serious about reducing GW.
Yes, in the interests of arguing from a good faith position, I have to assume you were joking. Thus, the raucous laughter at the top of this comment.

  24. Poor anon, it took three tries trolling before he got a bite.
btw, Don Cherry is a Canadian that I respect and admire, except maybe for fashion tips 😉

  25. YES YES YES…PLEASE GUYS nominate Cherry to political positions, somewhere….ANYWHERE in the CPC. It speaks volumes about this crowd about the triumph of form over function and style over substance that you dimwits would even think Don Cherry would make a good political figure.

  26. Texas: OH SH*T DON CHERRY IS A CANADIAN ???!!!???? Well, DAMN SON, better put him in office then.
SAY WHHHHAAAATTTTT?!? ‘Texas Canuck’ RESPECTS and ADMIRES him????!!!!!!????? This guy is a shoo-in, then!!! Screw the elections! Cherry’s our man…if he can’t do it, then…well, pretty much anyone with a high school education probably could.

  27. What is really irritating is that the wing-nut David Suzuki has been awarded the Order of Canada, but Don Cherry has not. Cherry has done more for this country and many causes than that arrogant little twirp David Suzuki has ever done.

  28. Way to go DON CHERRY! Love that Suzuki smackdown! And on CBC to boot.
Hockey is more important that Earth Hour. Hope for the Demented Dominion yet, I’d say.
My porch light went on at 8pm, rest assured.

  29. Cherry reflects the views of more people than you think, or care to admit. His buffon act is well studied
Remember the last election was Tim Hortons versus Starbucks….if you had to think of famous Canadians you would run into in a Tim Hortons then I think Don Cherry would be on most Canadian’s lists…as would Don Maclean for that matter….Suzuki would be on the Starbucks list.
You may not like him Anon but his views would be reflective of a significant number….you can piss on him but you would be pissing on those others as well. It will be interesting to see Suzuki’s response, if any.
You see if Suzuki doesnt even watch hockey he has lost about 40% of the population right there.

  30. Stephen: Tim Hortons vs. Starbucks? Sigh…it looks like grossly simplified dichotomies are still ‘in vogue’.

  31. I think Cherry is probably quite happy with his no Order of Canada, given the collection of weasels and wankers who got them under the Liberal regime the last 20 years or so.

  32. As far as Cherry being elected to something, I think its a great idea.
If he were elected Premier of Ontario and did absolutely nothing but his Hockey Night in Canada show the whole time, he couldn’t possibly cause as much damage as Dalton McSquinty has.

  33. Say what you will and think what you like about Don Cherry but he’s one guy the CBC will never get rid of because he’s an Icon, even those who don’t watch the game of hockey make sure to tune in to Don’s segment. He’s a great act,got the clothes to prove it, belying the fact he’s got one hell of a lot more class, common sense and compassion in his little finger than any of his politically correct detractors.
Don is also more literate and understandable in English than Dion will ever be and “everythink like that there”.

  34. “You guys don’t seriously think that moderate supporters of sustainable development plans and environmental initiatives actually believe that the whole economy should be shut down and that we should live in caves”
What do you think the end result of implementing full-blown kyoto would be? The uncontrollable increase in our manufacturing base? Rampant growth in the housing industry? Affordable energy for all – especialy those with low incomes?
    Idiot.
Why not try thinking before you comment, because – to paraphrase Twain – rather than remaining silent and appearing stupid, you’re typing and ipso facto removing all doubt.

  35. “I’m not even doing a \sarcasm, because I’m so totally serious. You should travel the world spreading your smartness.”
Yea NIN, THATS RIGHT!!. You SHOULD travel the world spreading your smartness!
To start off you could travel accross Canada in a big 60 passenger (Suzucki) bus. And you have enough room you could even take another person with you. Poluting you say. No problemo, just buy carbon credits-just like Suzuki.
After you have polluted all the Canadian air you could then travel to other countries by charter airplane. You know, the kind like Gore has. Hell, they may be big mega-polluters but the good point is you don’t even have to buy carbon credits for those cause air travel is excluded from Kyoto.
Besides, don’t worry about poluting or C02 at all because your cause is a good one. Its kinda like Gore and Suzucki, who are probably the only people on earth whose SH*T doesn’t stink.
    Horny Toad

  36. With Don Cherry you get a truthful opinion. You may not like it, but you have to admire him for it. Wish there where more folks like that, than the usual weasels trying their hardest to sound like a talking social vogue ad.
As for politics, Cherry I believe would scoff at the idea. I don’t think he wants to lower his morality to that of brown nosers & busybodies, who make up a significant number in the political fiddles that occur at Parliament Hill.
May his tongue never loss its aptitude to eviscerate the foes of lucid logic.
