An hour-long advertisement for Stein and Lang’s one-sided pre-emptive re-write of history. It should have been called REVEALED: The Liberals’ Oh-So-Convenient Attempt To Cover Their Disgustingly Cynical and Self-Interested Tails On How We Went To War.
Given the production company’s previous work, I was expecting so much more than Scott Reid and John McCallum scurrying for cracks in the wall when the light was turned on.
(Ed note: Don’t miss reading the rest of this post at the link provided. – Kate)

“9/11 happened for one reason and one reason only – The USA is not Islamic.”
I disagree, it still might have happened if the USA was Islamic depending on whether New York City was Sunni or Shia. Remember those guys kill for sport.
“Scott Reid and John McCallum scurrying for cracks in the wall when the light was turned on.”
Actually the crack they scurry into is the one in Paul Martins ass.
When I consider both leading parties, I feel like we have no government, we have abusers. We enable them so what do we expect eh? I think I have battered citizen syndrome.
Since citizenship is a meaningless term in Canada, perhaps I should have said ‘battered consumer’, but then I can’t afford to very much anymore and after the green taxes are all in place I will have to start stealing.
Get ready for a senior crime wave and run on toast and tea.
If the LIEberals give the CF any more ‘caring and compassion’ it will be the death of them.
The LIEberals systematically cut the military budget for over a decade.
After virtually denuding the CF capabilities to not even having tactical/strategic lift abilities, not to mention rusted out transport vehicles, they then decided to send them into the field without heavy lift helicopters so they could suffer more IED casualties. I think the Canadian Chinooks are now being flown by the Dutch!
Short of putting a bullet in the chamber, one would scarcely offer more than a rifle report on the depth of LIEberal commitment to the welfare of CF personnel.
Gen. Hillier’s ‘decade of darkness’ comment is apt.
LIEberal posturing for the camera, tres chic n’est pas?

I have the greatest respect for our Canadian Forces and know very well the crappy deal served by the government. Bullshit is what it is!
I remember many years ago a vacuum salesman came to the door that I initially refused to let in – until he explained he was a vet and looked truly desperate. I let him in and heard about how he couldn’t find decent employment after serving 13 years in the CF and that he was refused social assistance (I forget the details now). He was almost in tears explaining how the government had turned their backs on him for his 13 years of good service and I could only sympathize and understand. Go Canada.
No I didn’t buy a vacuum.
If we were in Darfur the Librano bleating would be that Afghanistan really needs our attention.
Or * * Puleeze, we want to run things again. **
Get lost!
Maybe there will be less SPIN on this CBC Documentary. ./

Weasel Liberals are pathetic. Won’t waste any more time watching Global, they’re getting too cowardly to question the Liberals or any liberal – just like almost all the other media outlets.
The Dr. who pieced me together after I was run over by a car at the age of six remained a lifelong family friend. He had served as a battle surgeon in the very bloody Italian campaign WW11.
Irish by extraction he had a fondness for liquor, and when he got wound up he would start bellowing in a very loud voice that he knew how to cure the idiocy coming from Ottawa. With a sweep of the arm and a snapping flourish of the hand he’d yell ” aim a cannon in that direction and ZOOM…. blow the b**stards all to hell”
All the other soldiers in the room (including my Dad who served 5 years as a tank commander) let him rave on with knowing smirks on their faces. The women hit the deck…….
I tend to agree with him.
If the Liberals had their way, all the troops would smoke Craven A.
Hey JW, how bout calling ourselves the Over-the-Hill Gang?
Heh.
The Liberals aren’t pathetic, they’re pathological. These are grown men that can accept neither criticism nor responsibility.
lets get it straight. my father medic -ww2-my brother cyprus and montreal war measures act both now dead..im defending them neither cleaned toronto streets.support our troop families .god bless them.
Can an army of Conservative Bloggers keep the Lieberals out for the next several decades?
It’s not can we, we must!
There are scarcely any news networks in Canada to view without Liberal bias and spin so it’s a very time consuming effort to call the rats on everything they, (I use the term loosely),”report”, it’s loaded with reporter spin.
CBC must be gutted and revamped to be a non-partisan entity. Even their satirical Air Farce and 22 Minutes are biased and well past their best before time.
There was an article about this film in the Calgary Herald on Monday, in the “Entertainment” section, written by Maria Kubacki, Canwest News Service. Here’s some quotes:
“…six years later, Canada is still mired in a messy war that’s claimed the lives of 79 Canadian soldiers so far.”
“”I’m fascinated by trying to uncover how the decision was made,” said Global National anchor Kevin Newman, who co-produced, co-wrote and narrated the film. “It’s not always about helping the people of Afghanistan.” Some of the choices made along the way have been more about pleasing the Americans, the documentary suggests… “People ask why we are in Kandahar,” said Newman. “It has less, probably, to do with Afghanistan than it has to do with not going to Iraq.”
“The documentary also suggests that our military leaders – especially the current chief of the defense staff, General Rick Hillier – saw Afghanistan as an opportunity to show the world that Canadian forces were capable not only of peacekeeping but of a combat role on the world stage.”
“…note Stein in the film. The original plan was “Six months in, six months out, tidy, wrap a bow around the package.””
“Newman says the documentary was inspired in part by The Best and the Brightest, David Halberstam’s book about how a series of incremental decisions led to the protracted U.S. war in Vietnam.”
“The current decision makers chose not to participate in the film, despite the producers’ best efforts to pursuade key Tories, including Prime Minister Stephen Harper, to agree to interviews. Gen. Hillier was also approached. “Nobody would agree to talk to us,” said Newman.”
“Nobody would agree to talk to us,” said Newman.”
Gee Kevin -I wonder why – clever editing and comments used out of context seem to be the way the media operates.
I know for a fact that if the government and the military HAD agreed to talk – they would be made out to be the bad guys – the war mongers – just by the way of which parts of the comments got used.
This was a SMEAR job of the lowest of the low.
That’s our Canadian media – Kevin Newman should be ashamed of himself and of the news organization he works for. After all – it was our soldiers that fought for his right to make these documentaries and for the right for him to get up on the podium every night and pontificate about the so called “news of the day”.
Why is Janice Stein on my TV every night?
What gives her any credibility?
She has never contributed anything but bullshit!
Rosedale limousine liberals make me sick!
True story..on an exercise somewhere in the black forest..i sat in a 1956 built Canadian jeep, with three other men.At this time, i was an instructor on Centurion tanks and we were just about to get our first leopards.
An American national guard armoured column, from Nebraska, with all their brand new equipment, new uniforms, weapons, massive quantities of food, training ammunition etc.. rolled to a stop beside us at a crossroad.
G.I.-” You fellas here to show us the way?”
Me – ” Nope..”
G.I.-” Are you Miltary Police?, are you Lost?
Me- ” Nope..”
G.I.-” Well, just who the hell are you?”
Me-” Us? We are a tank. We are supposed to defend this crossroad from attack.”
G.I- ” Uh Huh..so you are just waiting for the real tanks to show up?”
Me – ” Nope..we’re it..that’s all..we have no tanks here..”
G.I.- ” You have got to be f’ing kidding me..”
Us- “Bang Bang bang…here us roar..”
Our state of preparedness under the Liberal regime of the time?
50’s Jeep pretending to be a tank
threadbare combats (you who have served know what i mean..the nylon looks like you can see through it..)
Ration kits made up of off the shelf mini tins of chef-boy-ar-dee, 15 years out of date.
Insufficient winter kit.
bad boots
lack of camouflage clothing
scarcity of fuel, ammunition (American tankers could fire unlimited practice rounds, often we were limited to one!!!.i kid you not..)
The Liberals would destroy our armed forces given a chance..never let them have that chance..
I hope the electorate are as disengaged as they appear, and I hope Stephen Harper has a plan once the writ is dropped to counter the msm,and I don’t think stating the obvious, like the liberals track record will be good enough seeing as the media will have it’s own spin,or not report it at all. Please Prime Minister Harper, please don’t let this country fall back into liberal hands or we are all hooped.
“This was a SMEAR job of the lowest of the low.”
I started to watch this SJ from the beginning before I became sick and had to switch channels. They clearly blamed the Canadian military leaders for going into Afstan. Said they were too close to the Yanks and too friendly with them.
The poor befuddled LIEbranos just went along as anyone would, of course. It seemed their hands were tied: the UN, our Military, our neighbors, what to do?

Yes we are paying the awful price for this but I just want to let everyone know that the decision to sell the Chinooks was made when the Conservatives led by Mulroney were in in power.
Yes the Liberals did their damage to the CF too. No question there.
with respect to time limits:
If we can put a time limit on a military action, so that it ends before victory, or in other words, before the problem is solved, why can’t we put time limits on other government programs, even if the targeted “problem” isn’t solved?
I remember the Conservatives planned to replace the Chinooks with new helicopters. Who was it that scrapped that deal with a price tag. Nothing like going to war in a VW upgrade from WWII. The Conservatives have probably saved a lot of lives.
Hans, you are right, PC/Mulroney did sell Chinooks. They also signed a contract for EH 101s, which while not of the tactical airlift capability of Chinook, have tremendous cargo room, range and survivability. Five of six of them would come in real handy in Afghanistan; and, the Liberals did cancel that helicopter.
In fact, they spent about a billion dollars not to buy them. They ended up spending pretty much the same as the EH101 program, to deliver an already obsolete helicopter, at least 20 years later, though we can’t be sure of that, because they haven’t even been built yet.
They did purchase the Cormorants (civilian version of EH101), which are showing signs of tail rotor stress, given the difficult operations required by search and rescue. I wonder if the SMP version has the same tail rotor issues (BTW, this is a common issue among many helicopters).
Definitely needed those metric signs and dual language labels. GST in to save the day which the Liberals promise to increase. Liberals were to cheap to buy the tanks with air. Training in the summer must have been fun. Liberals burnt to many bridges for help in Rawanda. Help begets help. Now a couple new German Subs or build a couple of our own nuclear subs and carriers and we will catch Greece. Just kidding.
