  1. Lori, I view SDA as Kate’s private blog, upon which she daily does whatever the hell she likes. Kate isn’t the Official Voice of Conservatism or any other damn thing, she’s a spray painter with a really nice bike and a way with words. Long may it reign.
She tolerates my intemperate ravings, which I really appreciate. Few do.
Social change driven by the Internet? Not a freakin’ chance. Social change is driven mostly by where you spend your money, maybe a little bit by how you vote. The internet is where you -read- about social change.
However Lori, should I feel moved to post on YOUR blog, I’ll follow the rules. I’ll have to, won’t I?

  2. 87 Carrera .
    Wow , that’s all I gotta say.
I mean really, what else is there to say
    An 87 Carrera.
Warren didn’t stand a chance against you John.
    An 87 Carrera!
Thanks you have a nice day too!

Well, there we have to disagree. Ezra Levant has effected a societal change with his Internet activity. It remains to be seen how wide ranging and lasting it will be, but it is the beginnings of something anyway.
Opinion that becomes “widely accepted” all has to begin somewhere, and these days that somewhere is the Internet as much as anywhere else.
Politicians and their flunkees browse these blogs to get a pulse on what’s out there.
If the blogosphere was so irrelevant, why do you think people people like Cherniak and Kinsella spend so much time and effort pushing their agenda there?
Every revolution in history had an intellectual basis, with “intelligentsia” that discussed core issues for years, or even decades, prior to the revolution becoming mainstream. These days, the “intelligentsia” is online and blogging as much as anywhere else.
The political leaders of tomorrow are the blog readers of today.

  4. “You would never, ever be able to put a cigar out on my forehead.”
You’d sound a lot more threatening without that phallic shaped object in your mouth.

  5. I beg to differ, Ma’am. To the extent Ezra has changed anything it is by paying money to go through the idiot HRC process. Paying that money has forced his opponent to back down. Paying that money had got him a beauty video clip on U-Tube.
The Blogosphere is where we -read- about what Ezra has been doing. With his money.
I didn’t say the web is irrelevant, I said it doesn’t drive social change. Newspapers don’t either. You read about what’s happening, or in the case of the papers what they want you to think is happening.
I think Cherniak and Kinsella spend so much time on the web because no MSM outlet will have them, and because they have no lives.
Incidentally, we don’t want a revolution. Revolutions are for jerks whose ideas are so bad nobody will do what they say without a gun to their head. What we want is to roll back the -excesses- of the modern Liberal weenie movement.
Equal rights for women is a good thing. More rights for women and less for men, that’s not so good. Free speech is good. Free speech unless you say something Lucy Warman doesn’t like, not so good.

  6. Sheesh. Racist muslims really DO bring out the dark side of people.
However I am willing to bet that she couldn’t find 50 Leb(anese) to side with her, to begin with. Many Lebs are Christian. And a lot more intelligent. And better looking.

  7. Phantom, I’d regard getting rid of the nanny-state multiculti socialism that now pervades the western world to be a revolution.
A country run according to principles of personal responsibility, self-sufficiency, and individual freedoms that cannot be trumped by the whims of self-proclaimed victims, would be nothing less than a revolution from what we have turned ourselves into during the past century.
In my opinion, if that rebirth ever happens to any extent (call me insanely optimist) the conservative bloggers here and abroad will be an important part of it.
I cannot be as cynical as you. I think ideas matter, not just money.

  8. For what it is worth,
    The purpose of Blogs…
In my opinion blogs on the right serve a different purpose than blogs on the left,
on most right wing blogs we can learn about what the MSM is trying to hide from us,
We get the complete story warts and all, we get real information instead of propaganda.
    We are mostly fact driven.
And last but not least, we expose the left and their media for what they are.
While most left wing blogs simply do the same as the MSM only with more anger and with more vulgar language,
They distort, take out of context, blow out of proportion and fabricate stories about the right to bash it and to try to hide anything we have managed to expose about them,
and they turn everything into pro-liberal anti-right propaganda.
Almost every story on left wing blogs is incomplete because only what is useful to them has been retained.
No matter how many times a story has been debunked by the right, on left wing blogs the it is repeated until it gets a second life as a “truth”.
They throw a lot of ridiculous accusations and mostly rely on emotions to convince readers.
    In short,
right wing blogs tell the truth about the left while left wing blogs tell lies about the right.

  9. For what it’s worth x 2 =
Blogs are the reflection of whatever the blog administrator wishes to produce or edit.
The purpose the blog serves is whatever intent the individual poster wishes to frame or like-minded posters wish to rally.
Agenda – boredom relief – comedy – sarcasm. Political discontent, religious discontent, personal discontent.
The above thread proves the multiple intents of the posters, from having a laugh to ease Monday evening doldrums to political stances against one agenda or the other.
In the end it’s a collage of thoughts and ideas that you can either turn on or switch off………

  10. For what it’s worth – I generally ignore the comments threads. These are your submissions, not mine and I tend to give people a lot of rope. If you want to know what I think, read the front page. Otherwise, respect the rules and I’m happy.

  11. I’m not sure what I’d like more, 5 minutes with this person or 5 minutes with the plonker at our seriously flawed immigration department that let this Lebo-hippo into Canada…

  12. Lori
You think these feces-flinging orangutangs have interest in doing anything but expressing their anger and rage at all the liberals with their ‘fancy book-learnin’ and their belief in science and their tolerance of other peoples’ colours and beliefs?
    Really?

  13. Unintended Irony Alert:
    Big John West says:
“That’s how it should be, just say whatever the f**k you want and let the chips fall where they may.”
    Haw! Haw!

  14. Volik, sorry to disappoint you, but my experience has been that the quality of thought, debate, and intellect is VASTLY superior in the right wing blogs and among right wing thinkers than on the left. Mindless rabid foaming-at-the-mouth hatred an bile are much more a staple of Liberal / left wing blogs.
The left-wingers are much more likely to be intellectually lazy and unable to logically defend their dogma. They seem to be unburdened by life experience or recognition of the reality of human nature. Nearly all are simply indoctrinated from birth by touchy-feely BS that they learned from their teachers and professors. Most have long since lost the ability to truly think about a problem.
True conservatives have been the underdogs in academic circles and in politics for a long time, and so they have had to rise to a higher standard of thought, debate, and evidence-based thinking.
Survival of the fittest. Most left wingers are not intellectually fit to survive.

  15. No, Lori.
There are two things on this blog I’ve never seen in such profusion elsewhere.
    1) racism.
    2) ad hominems sputtered as in a fit of Tourette’s everytime a blogger tries to counter an argument. Stuff like “retard” “idiot” “fool”, etc., etc.
Even your post is 75% derogatory cliches about liberals, the type that are repeated here over and over – likely you folks lull yourselves to sleep everynight repeating them.
I mean, I know you guys are intellectually insecure, and calling other people the same names you were called by your parents might seem empowering for you.
But really, is that all there is to your ideology? A steady whining and bitching about what ‘they’ have done to you?

  16. See how politeness has gotten you sooo far with dipshit Volik Lori?
There is no debating or discussing anything with his ilk, the thing is a left wing freak.

  17. Whatever Lori, you can respond to leftards like vomit…er volik the way that you feel, I’ll keep antagonizing it’s type because I don’t believe that there’s anything that will change it’s mind. Policies be damned, I’m a Liberal dammit!

  18. One of the reasons that the left is so screwed up is that they are completely out of ideas.
On the conservative side we still believe in The Wealth of Nations, by Adam Smith. We still believe in Hayek, Ludwig von Mises, and Milton Friedman. The classical school of economics still pretty much underpins our view.
On the other hand, Marxism simply didn’t pan out, despite all the wrangling about it. Of course it became a very odious system to us because of our confrontation with Eastern Bloc Communism. However, Marxism has fallen apart by virtue of its own flaws irrespective of the lack of success of the Soviet Union.
For example, for today the bag boy down at the grocery store very possibly has a pension plan with money allocated to the S&P 500 along with various international bond and mutual funds.
Marx discussed a world in which capital was held in very few hands. And those capitalists had huge control. But today almost everybody working for a living is a capitalist by virtue of automatic pension plans, various investments in the financial markets… If you can stay at the same job for a few years you’re already a mini-capitalist.
In the US the old Communist movement fell apart when Kruschev finally admitted the fact of the Stalin purges. This simply cut the heart out of the Communist movement.
So upon the ashes of the Old Left, the New Left arose. The New Left, backed by Soviet money, controlled radical student body politics and other radicals in the United States.
As you know, Marx said that capitalism would someday run its course, and then money would no longer be a factor and the communist system would have come to fruition.
He went on to say that in case you didn’t have time to wait for this to occur before the sun went out, the program could be pushed through by violent revolution.
The New Left was committed to achieving communist goals through violent revolution. The problem for them was that the entire program came to a screeching halt as soon as the US government killed the military draft. As soon as your average college radical realized that he was no longer going to be forced to face a shooting enemy, he very quickly dropped his revolutionary posture, and there went the movement.
So today the leftists in the American government had their origin mainly in some derivative of radical student body politics.
But as I said earlier, the problem is that the old Marxist idea no longer has viability, for a number of reasons I could mention.
If you go back a few years, the Democratic Party in the United States was not the nutty, Cindy-Sheehan group that exists today.
John Kennedy, for example, along with his predecessors like Adlai Stevenson, believed that government could benevolently affect social problems, but at the same time was a ‘cold warrior’ like other men of his generation.
Having served himself, he was not afraid to back Russia down during the days of the Cuban missile crisis, despite the screams of outrage from people like Bertrand Russell. He understood free market economics, and intentionally lowered taxes to return more money to the Treasury with his “rising tide lifts all boats” speech.
When George Bush first came into the presidency, the first person he asked to be Secretary of Defense was a Democrat, former Georgia Senator Sam Nunn. Simply because Sam Nunn was a part of the older coterie of senators were were still sane despite the fact they were Democrats.
So the upshot is that these crazy leftists and the leftists in government today are derivative of the 1960s student body radical politics rather than an older, saner system. And what has taken the place of the failed system of Marxism is simply a bunch of inflated, misguided insanities.
And this at least is how it came to pass that all these leftists are so crazy and so shrill.

  19. As one comic put it “I’m not trying to say she(?) is fat but when she walks her butt looks like two ten pound beavers in a five pound sack engaging in fisticuffs”.

  20. John in Dallas … I don;t know how things went from taking up the public mocking of that moron in Calgary to discussions of the evolution of America’s leftards…. BUT I do like what you have to say about it.
Particularly the mention of my long lost cousin Berty Russell.
Bert was as thorough a lefty loon as you could find back in the 50’s and 60’s… brilliant logician who had not a clue of how to apply his own logic in the real world! I quote Bertrand on my Blog header…..
There’s also the example of Numb Nutz Chomsky who’s Manufacturing consent was brilliant. Even if he had the roles of the Conservative establishment and the leftist activists completely ass backward in his essay! He did have the process thoroughly defined.
    Cheers!

  21. Blogs are the epitome of free speech … but they exist to vent and rant, amuse and sometimes educate and inform. At least that’s how I’ve always understood this one, Kate’s Intro at the top left says
    “Until this moment
    I have been forced
    to listen while media
    and politicians alike
    have told me
    “what Canadians think”.
    In all that time they
    never once asked.
    This is just the voice
    of an ordinary Canadian
yelling back at the radio –
    “You don’t speak for me.”
We speak, and 90% of the time we’re speaking to like minded souls. Ego the humor in this thread. I’m not the only person that laughs at the original illiteracy of Khalil Jeha, or the subsequent comments here … S/he started the ball rolling and should have realized s/he was going to get it back worse. Perhaps s/he doesn’t understand that part.

  22. I thought we agreed to disagree.
But Lori had to slip in another “leftard”.
Then came more posts, with the same old whining about liberals, and more use of the term “leftard”.
You guys really don’t have anything else to say!
You come and whine and bitch about environmentalists and liberals and what they’re doing to you. How ineffectual you all are.
Then there’s all the racist crap: proof positive of small minds spuriously trying to claim superiority.
And another variation on the same phenomenon: the term “leftards”.
A tragic affliction visited on millions of people is to you guys a term of derision for those who disagree with you.
Oh, yeah, they must be “retarded” to disagree with you Einsteins, huh? Especially with all your racism and such.

  23. Dear Volik,
If you prefer we we could us a liberal term for you such as “intellectually challenged” or “developmentally delayed” or possibly just “special”! Are you at peace now?

  24. volic, I second what Lori said. And I’d like to add that you’re not only a f-ing retard, you’re the intellectual brother of that sorry racist object we’ve been mocking.
Unlike Lori I see no reason not to fire a broadside on the likes of Kahlil Jeha and your sorry self. Go back to the rabble where they enjoy your sort of person.

  25. So much for free speech on this site.
    Unless your’re a knuckle-dragging mouth-breathing redneck “retard!”-slurring racist.
    Right, snaggle-tooth?

  26. “So much for free speech on this site”.
You’re seeing free speech, you liberal tool, but I’m not surprised that you don’t recognize it. Note to Khalil: Have a salad. Do some exercise, maybe a trip to the old country, you know, south Beirut. Some runnin’ and jumpin’ maybe? Dodgin’ Israeli missiles? I’ll buy the ticket.
