Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Mike Duffy indicated on his CTV program last evening that he was being subpoenaed to the Schreiber / Mulroney parliamentary “ethics committee” as a witness.

Now that will be theatre worth the watching.
Sort of “Corner Gas” the Ottawa episode!
Who was the Liberal Party Operative that Mike exposed live during the 05 election campaign ?

Barley monopoly to end:
OTTAWA – Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz plans to introduce legislation to end the Canadian Wheat Board’s monopoly on prairie barley sales.
Farmers rally for CWB
Ritz made the announcement this afternoon following a meeting in Ottawa with wheat board officials and barley industry representatives, which Ritz said was very productive.
He sent the wheat board back to Winnipeg with orders to take what they heard before the board of directors later this week. He is hoping the board will then produce a plan to introduce marketing choice for barley producers.
He said the wheat board will support the legislation “if they purport to really represent producers” but said he will introduce legislation regardless, with a view to implementing marketing choice on Aug. 1.
He acknowledged the wheat board’s support “would help take the opposition parties’ stinger away.”

Black-focussed schools to provide black-focussed teaching. What does that entail? What is WHITE-focussed teaching? How is math and science white-focussed? How could you make it black-focussed?
I can sort of understand black-focussed history (utopia in Africa, then slavery, then freedom, then “being kept down by the ‘Man'”) and English (learning how to spell “Yo”, “MoFo” and “Ho”) and geography (“Can anyone show me where Timbuktu is on the map?”), but the other stuff is colour-blind, isn’t it?
What are they going to teach instead of the current curriculum? The fine art of wearing gold jewelry? How to walk in big-ass baggy pants? How to pimp yo ride? Islam for beginners?
Segregation is NOT the solution for people who seem to think that they are not being accepted into society. Keeping people apart isn’t going to bring everyone together.
Is there such a thing as “perceptual dyslexia” where bad appears to be good and up appears to be down and stupid appears to be smart? Such an ailment seems to be afflicting half the population of this country (the left half).
According to the news:
quote “Taser stun guns may not be as safe as their manufacturer claims, according to a study carried out by Chicago researchers, CBC News has learned.
The team of doctors and scientists at the trauma centre in Chicago’s Cook County hospital stunned 11 pigs with Taser guns in 2006, hitting their chests with 40-second jolts of electricity, pausing for 10 to 15 seconds, then hitting them for 40 more seconds.
When the jolts ended, every animal was left with heart rhythm problems, the researchers said. Two of the animals died from cardiac arrest, one three minutes after receiving a shock.” endquote
I find stories like this funny. They seem to suggest that perhaps tasers should NOT be used because they’re too dangerous.
I wonder what the doctors would find if they repeated the study with 11 other pigs but using standard service pistols instead of the tasers. I suspect that they’d find a 100% death rate instead of 18%.
If I were a “suspect” and were permitted to choose between being: a) shot by police; b) beaten by police with batons; or c) tasered by police in order to subdue me, I would choose the taser 100 times out of 100.
This just reinforces my opinion that the vast majority of people are idiots. Or as the “Far Side” cartoon quiped “Yes, we know they’re all idiots. But what KIND of idiots are they?”
Yes, once again, the hypocrisy of the “progressives” comes shining through. On one hand, we just had a provincial election fought and lost on the issue of religious schools. Now we have some of the same people lining up behind race based schools.
Make up your mind. It is either one (yes, I know those damn Catholics have their own schools)system for all, or we balkanize our educational institutions all to hell.
I have a radical idea. As I take full responsibility for the performance of my children in school, maybe the PARENTS of these so called dis-enfranchised youth could step up and do their jobs. It is called PARENTING!
I have several black co-workers. Unlike anything related to Islam, which I can never discuss with any co-workers because everyone is so touchy, it is perfectly possible to discuss black issues with black co-workers.
To a man, and to a woman, they are utterly opposed to “black” schools. Most don’t see the need for this (from their own daily lives) or they see it as a purely political pandering ploy that is guaranteed to create more problems than it solves.
The only good they see in this is that there may be an opportunity to present black kids with a large number of good black role models they can can identify with. But most question if this will really happen, and even if there is commitment to doing so at first, how long it will last. And all of them say that a good white teacher is nearly as good a role model to a black kid as a good black teacher.
Maybe all my co-workers are “oreos”, or maybe they are just saying it to me because I am not black, but it seems pretty straightforward.

Don Martin has an interesting column in the Calgary Herald today.
The word from “on high” within the Cons seems to be that there will be no contest between John Baird and his merry band of environmentalists in a match with the AB Gov’t re the imposition of environmental measures (whatever these might be next month) against the Oil Patch (while the industries in ON stand to be not affected and even gain from further transfers from AB).
Well John. You are enjoying your stay in Ottawa because Central Canada has continued to take for granted the federal votes within AB and the other Prairie provinces.
Your Central Canada colleagues (with the muzzling of AB MPs) slipped an amendment to the Official Languages Act past the locals in 2005 by doing this.
If you really want to push your luck and are prepared to put your Ottawa lifestyle in jeopardy, then have at it. There are a whole lot more people paying attention to the issues in and around the oil patch than was/remains the case re bilingualism issues.

(Via CSP) Think tank: Surge now needed in Afghanistan
The American Enterprise Institute, the think tank that came up with the “surge” strategy for Iraq, has just completed a re-evaluation of U.S. strategy in Afghanistan and Pakistan and concluded that another surge of U.S. forces is required, this time into southern Afghanistan…
Overall, the group concluded that a “surge” of three additional brigades was required to secure southern Afghanistan: one brigade in Kandahar province, one in Oruzgan province and a third split between Helmand province and the mission to establish border patrols, according to the Washington source.

Pakistan’s slide towards state failure accelerated dramatically in year 2007, and the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on December 27 was a sharp reminder that the country’s progressive collapse was much more rapid and irretrievable than most had envisaged. In more ways than one, 2007 was a cumulative reflection on all of President Pervez Musharraf’s errors of omission and commission since he took power in the coup of October 1999…

Ezra Levant’s father, a physician, has a letter to the editor in the Calgary Herald recounting his own past experience with the AHRC:
Almost three decades ago, the AHRC came down heavily on my group radiology practice, demanding that we place a male X-ray technician at female fertility tests, as we had exercised “gender discrimination” by hiring a female technician.
Thousands of dollars in legal fees, seven months of letters of explanation of medical procedure, of female patient sensitivity, and AHRC visits, were of no avail in convincing the arbiters of hurt. Not only were they ignorant of medical procedures, patient vulnerability and sensitivity, as well as physician liability, they were intruding on physician-patient relationships.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “universal” health-care plan died in the California legislature on Monday, in what can only be called a mercy killing. So let’s conduct a political autopsy, because there are important lessons here for the national health-care debate…
This reveals that liberal health-care politics is increasingly the art of the impossible: You can’t make coverage “universal” while at the same time keeping costs in check — at least without prohibitive tax increases. Lowering cost and increasing access, in other words, are separate and irreconcilable issues.

A perspective from a recovering Mohammedan:
Ayman Hassan, “Islam is intolerant to everything non-Muslim”
Why do the Arabs and Muslims have to reject the presence of a Jewish state in a tiny percentage of the land of the Middle East? Why Islamic intolerance forbids other nations their right to exist in their own land. The whole world should realize that Islam is at war with all nations on the planet. In our Muslim societies it is not “the extremists” but the whole society infected with this hatred. It is in the mosques, the schools, the media and in the homes of nearly every Muslim family. It isn’t just Israel but the hatred of America and Christians, Islam hates all other religions. In the case of Israel, its only fault is that it’s a Jewish state who wants to live in peace within its borders.
I’ve received a response from the ‘Minister of Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture’ (?) with regard to my letter of complaint about the Alberta HRC. (I posted it before, on a thread here). The usual bureaucratic stuff. But, the point is, they are aware that they are ‘being watched’. I think that citizens, both in blogs and columnists, ought to keep up that watch, and make it clear – that we are concerned.
I have to again, comment about the Ontario lawyer on last night’s Michael Coren show, in his attempt to justify the HRCs. I was appalled at his ‘arguments’, not merely by their weakness but by their blatant attempt to obfuscate and deny reality.
For example, his justification for the HRCs was that the HRAct and the Commissions were developed by a ‘democratically elected government’. So? That effectively means that ANY decision made by a ‘democratically elected government’ is both Just and Outside of Debate.
Because it was made by a ‘democratically elected body’.
That also means that there’s no need for an Opposition, because all decisions are valid, because they are made by …a democr….etc
And no need to think about or debate or dissent about govt actions..because…etc.
Incredible.
Then, his statement that ‘words have meanings’ and, therefore (why ‘therefore’?) ‘must be controlled’.
Well, Mr. Lawyer. You are right; words do have meanings. It’s called LANGUAGE. Our species is the only one to develop such a symbolic communication system. So that we can communicate with each other. That’s why the ‘bits’ of our communication system, have ‘meaning’. They are supposed to.
Now, why should this basic capacity for symbolic thought be controlled? Do you want to reduce the capacity of the system to ‘make meanings’? Why? And, why should one sector of the population have the right to control language and meanings? Welcome to 1984.
That lawyer represented the mindset of the HRC and the people who support those commissions. It’s an illogical mindset, their arguments are filled with manipulative fallacies. But, they function within an Authoritative Group (they are lawyers, bureaucrats, the ever-present social workers and PC types…).
So, I think that it’s important to keep the topic alive.
Ezra Levant has more comments on his blog. He also asks – what are the options for the Alberta HRC? If they prosecute him, they really open themselves to public contempt. If they acquit him, they set a precedent for other cases, such as those called by Richard Warman and the CJC.
It’s moving into another dimension. We have, first, the basic fundamental flaw of the Human Rights Act and the Commissions – in that Section 13.1 is a violation of the Charter Freedom of Speech, and that the Section itself doesn’t deal with actual ACTS of ‘hatred’ but only with the speculative results of expressions. To connect an expression of an emotion with any specific result, is empirically impossible. So, you have the scenario of a Commission dealing with pure fiction.
But second, we have the abuse of the HRCs by Richard Warman and the CJC, who have filed many complaints of anti-semitism against various people. IF the HRC has accepted and ‘found guilty’ these cases, then, how can they accept and not ‘find guilty’ the Muslim cases? That is, the situation has moved completely and totally, out of any contact with any reality, current or future – and into a realm of group power agendas over other groups.
Whew.
Thanks for the link Maz2. Here are the quotes from the Mississauga Islamofascist:
“I hope the German brothers were gonna blow up US-German bases in their country. We should do that here in Canada as well. Kill as many western soldiers as well so that they think twice before entering foreign countries on behalf of their Jew masters,” he wrote.
“Any and all Western soldiers getting prepared to enter Muslim nations like Afghanistan or Iraq should be legitimate targets by any and all Islamic militants either in the attacked nations or in the western nations –if there were any planned attacks against Canadian/ American soldiers by ‘Muslim militants’ in Canadian soil, I’d support it,” he added.
“Canadian soldiers in Canadian soil who are training to go to Afghanistan or Iraq are legitimate targets to be killed. … Now it is POSSIBLE AND LEGITIMATE!! … believe me, if we could have enough of our soldiers killed, then we’d be forced to withdrawn from Afghanistan.”
In addition, he singles out Jews, writing: “When do I get to shoot a few Jews down for attempting to blow up dozens of mosques in America right after 9-11 … why f—ing target the Americans when the Jews are better?”
He wrote, “I enjoy watching the blood flow from the western troops,” and during Defence Minister Peter Mac-Kay’s Christmas week visit to Kandahar, he wrote: “I pray that the Taliban kill our Mackay motherf—er.”
In other postings, he wishes “a merry 9-11, and I wish y’all many more merry 9-11s”; says “the Jews are literally the most treacherous nation on the face of the Earth”; says “I hate the Jews”; and claims “the filthy Jews carried out 9-11.”
He rails at police, saying “you can’t charge me for possessing a thought” and writes that he “honestly got a kick outta pissing off the RCMP … HAHAHA … i was laughing my ass off for provoking the RCMP.”
Why is this fascist in Canada? If he’s convicted, I don’t want any tax dollars supporting him in prison. He and the family that produced him should be ejected from our Country post haste, dumped in the backwater of Bangladesh. I don’t care what his citizenship papers say, he is not Canadian.

irwin daisy – what is your point of posting these emotional rants? There are people like him, in any group, which includes religion, ethnicity, etc, etc. People who, as individuals, hate other people as ‘collectives’. So?
Remember, there IS such a thing as freedom of speech in this country, and we are involved in the midst of a fight to retain that speech. It is under attack by various groups. See Ezra Levant’s blog for some information on that.
You cannot legislate emotions. You cannot legislate the individual’s right to FEEL an emotion, both hatred and love. A society has no right to legislate the expression, in words and images, of these emotions. The only thing it has the right to legislate is ACTIONS.
How do you deal with people like him? You don’t listen, you don’t read. You critique him, you mock him, you laugh at him, you ignore him. But you don’t forbid him to express those emotions and opinions. Remember, freedom of speech means any and all speech. Not just the non-offensive.
Acrimonious exchanges between Jerusalem and Cairo over unrestrained Palestinian influx from Gaza to Egyptian Sinai
Despite official Israel denials, the defense ministry’s political adviser Amos Gilead did visit Cairo last week to complain about Egypt’s failure to curb the exit of three-quarters of a million Palestinians from Gaza into Sinai through the unsecured Rafah terminal. Our military sources report that Egyptian intelligence minister Gen. Omar Suleiman counter-charged that Israel shared responsibility for this development in view of its refusal to amend the 1982 peace treaty’s demilitarization clause for Sinai and permit the deployment of Egyptian troop reinforcements…
….How do you deal with people like him? You don’t listen, you don’t read. You critique him, you mock him, you laugh at him, you ignore him. But you don’t forbid him to express those emotions and opinions. Remember, freedom of speech means any and all speech….

Those rants you posted make me mindful of Robert Bollocks. Totally insane.
would it apply in this case?
If you saw the picture, this will be dealt with in the new “afro centric toronto school”
remember this kid is 6 or 7.
JM- I’m sure you realize that’s an entirely different situation. It’s about two seven year old children, where one little boy, angry at his classmate, said he was going to go home, get his toy gun and shoot her.
Remember, these are seven year olds. At that age, they actually believe in Santa Claus, in Superman and so on. They have no awareness of consequences of Superman’s gun. And this has NOTHING to do with free speech. It has to do with helping two children deal with conflict.
No, the school and the parents shouldn’t treat it As If the two were adults and As If it were a real gun. The school and parents should be helping the children deal with conflict, and showing them how they can indeed be angry at each other…and ..this is how you deal with your conflict.
You can, the two of you, decide to share the toy you were fighting over. Of, switch to another toy. Or, go play with someone else if you feel you can’t get along with each other. But, there’s no need to remain angry and threaten each other. Find something else to play with and someone else to play with.
Absolutely NOTHING to do with free speech, but with resolving a dispute among children. Don’t blow it up, as the parents were trying to do.
ET,
Those ‘rants’ as you call them are front page in today’s National Post. The Islamic ranter is publically calling for the murder of Canadian soldiers on our soil. He also called for the murder of Peter McKay.
A little beyond freedom of speech, or the HRC. These ‘rants’ fall under the criminal code. That’s why the RCMP is investigating.
Now that you understand the post, ET, I have a question: Why is it that you so often emotionally comment/rant without even understanding the content? It’s a bit unbalanced of you don’t you think?
Ralph R., I don’t understand your post. Could you clarify it please.

irwin daisy – could you provide some evidence that my comments are ’emotional comments’? Thanks in advance.
As for this guy’s posts on the internet, they are rants and should be dismissed as that. He’s not speaking to a specific group and advocating violence against anyone; he’s hoping for, praising violence. And? There are plenty of similar comments on both left and right blogs that advocate ‘killing them all’, ‘sending them all to X#*’ (with ‘all’ referring to various groups). So?
Here’s the criminal code, not the HRC, section:
“Section 319(1): Public Incitement of Hatred
The crime of “publicly inciting hatred” has four main elements. To contravene the Code, a person must:
communicate statements,
in a public place,
incite hatred against an identifiable group,
in such a way that there will likely be a breach of the peace. ”
I don’t think this guy’s speech, obnoxious as it is, can fit into the above criteria.
Again, no government can legislate emotions, hatred or love. The speech that expresses these emotions can’t be legislated. What CAN be legislated is either actions of violence or, specific speech that refers to specific acts of violence.
Warman’s talk with the students, giving them the name of the person to be attacked, plus the time and place, as well as his verbal approval-by-negation, is a criminal act – I’m not sure of the Statute.
Canada names Ian White as new wheat board head
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Reuters) – The Canadian government announced on its Privy Council Office Web site on Wednesday that Ian White will be the next head of the Canadian Wheat Board, one of the world’s largest grain exporters, as of March 31.
White, who the Web site listed as residing in Langley, British Columbia, had been tipped for the job by industry and newspapers last week.
News reports said White, chief executive of Australia’s Queensland Sugar Ltd and a veteran of that country’s farm trade, was a proponent of trade liberalization.
