Al Qaeda terrorists can continue to murder Iraqis and Americans at the behest of Osama, but their tactics will only backfire. Osama will no more own Iraq than he will own America. His is a lost cause. Not because of decisive military defeats, (although these have helped) but because decent Iraqi people from all quarters, sects and regions of Iraq have had enough of his people cutting off heads of children.
It’s understandable that this turn of events might come as news to Osama, because he cannot set foot in Iraq for fear of his life.

Once again we read another quiet and accurate analysis of the situation in Iraq. What bothers me is that Osama knows that this is the case, and so has turned his resources toward Pakistan. What a golden opportunity for him to grab a Nation that has the bomb.
Wouldn’t it be poetic justice if the al Qaeda killers of Bhutto would be the undoing in the long haul of Osama and the Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan?
In a recent televised statement she said Muslim religion does not advocate killing women.
By killing Benazir, the female Muslim martyr, they in effect may feel cursed by her statement and subsequently be condemned to Hell instead of in the company of Virgins for eternity.
“Benazir Bhutto, martyr, Belling the the Muslim Terrorist Cats with a curse of eternal Hell for women killers.”
In Mr. Yon’s essay, he notes that: His is a lost cause […] because decent Iraqi people from all quarters, sects and regions of Iraq have had enough of his people cutting off heads of children.
This phenomenon is why I think that fanaticism will ultimately fail, that is to say, the more successful it is, the more decent people from all quarters, sects and regions will rebel against the fanatics (if they can).
This negative feedback loop will constrain the amplitude of the amplifier. Meanwhile, it remains incumbent upon us to be part of the negative feedback loop.
A simple no brainer.
Do the majority in Pakistan want to be governed by beheaders and woman killers or by a democratic work in progress?
Let*s hope they are able to make a clear choice in reasonable time.
The people of Lebanon remain in the dark still after more than forty years. = TG
Osama will no more own Iraq than he will own America.
Yup!
Osama doesn’t even own his own butt anymore it was removed by the American bombs at Tora Bora.

What part of this do you not understand?
I don’t understand oversimplification.
Lots of people are crediting the recent good news from Iraq to the surge. Notice this article stands in contradiction.
The recent success in Iraq seems to depend on public support. The support comes from revulsion at Al Qaeda, Al Sadr et al. In other words, we had to let Iraq build itself with a minimum of western intervention.
Just because the surge seems the best strategy now, doesn’t mean it was a mistake to wait before implementing the surge.
osama, the dead guy?
IF Osama isn’t dead he may as well be. The lanky, spooky creep has nowhere to go without hiding.
If you see a really tall burka floating by it could be Osama in drag out for a walk.
Osama’s got a $25 million price on his head, so he’s a legitimate target for assassination.
So, Osama, come on and visit Canada… we’re waiting for you!
If only the conservative Imams of this globe would unilaterally declare Bin Laden and his kind the TRUE infidels of Islam, maybe then there would be some hope for mankind in the ME.
If only the conservative Imams of this planet would declare Osama and his ilk the TRUE infidels of Islam, maybe then there would be some hope for the ME.
But teddy:
Osama is only emulating the actions of the prophet!
He’s ordering creation through the Sword of God (at least with the AK-47 of God).
Doncha know that Allah appointed Osama to be judge, jury and executioner of those who does not agree with him?
This is not the same God as Christianity, to whom Satan made this offer: ‘All this (the world) can be yours if you only follow me.”
The imams, who you erroneously believe can stop Osama, are also into having power over humanity.
I agree with you on one point. The final answer can only be found within the Muslim community and the rejection of what Salman Rushdie called The Satanic Verses, which inspire this cult of death.

Thanks Kate, for posting this link, and thanks Vitruvius for your comments. I believe it needs repeating. It seems a few posters here think there are no decent Iraqis (as long as they’re Muslim). When I take issue with broad anti-Islamic statements, I’m branded a “leftoid” and “Liberal”.
This despite CONSERVATIVE Western governments continually framing the battle as one against fanatics and extremists, and recognizing the overwhelming majority of Muslims as peaceful allies.
Understood, Jimbo, yet that’s the beauty of freedom of speech, for as Jay
Lessig said, “Freedom of speech makes it much easier to spot the idiots”.

Jimbo,
Welcome to the club.
Don’t let those narrowminded bigots bully you.
