Ten weeks have passed since the Israel Air Force attacked in Syria, and there is still no reliable information about the precise target that was destroyed, or about the importance and necessity of the attack. Since Israel keeps maintaining its veil of secrecy, Everything that is known comes from leaks by anonymous U.S. administration officials to several of the major American media outlets. What is almost certain, judging from the leaks, are the following facts: A nuclear site built by the Syrians was attacked, and there was some connection to know-how and technology transferred from North Korea. The prevailing assumption is that it was a 5-megawatt nuclear reactor that was in stages of construction, that would have enabled Syria to produce plutonium to manufacture a nuclear bomb.
Or was it? An alternate theory.

Kate, check out this story…CNN planted (at least) 6 Democrat operatives as “undecided voters”.

Sorry Kate, that last posting was intended for the Readers Tips thread
You know this issue really pisses me off. People will be speculating about what this target was for DECADES, and we will never know conclusively what it was. I have a good feeling what it was, and I will never be able to confirm that feeling.
The only reason I can think of for all the secrecy is that the Americans do not want to embarrass the Syrians before the Annapolis summit. So we get to sit here in silence for Bush/Rice’s Pipe Dream of middle east peace. While we all know that the end result is the US selling Israel down the river, getting duped by the Palis/Syrians, and protecting the Syrians from the public humiliation of being caught in the act of acquiring nuclear tech. from N.K.(who is supposed to be decommissioning its nuclear program, not selling the family jewels)
This is why Bush will be looked upon unfavorably by history, not Iraq.
The BBC is guessing that since it was the Israelis doing the attacking, the target was a home for lost puppies or a hugs and kisses factory.
Was that the hugs and kisses factory that the Syrians built in a glade of the gumdrop tree forest between rivers of chocolate?
James says….”People will be speculating about what this target was for DECADES, and we will never know conclusively what it was.”
I don’t think we have decades…..the religion of peace is going to nuke the west one way or the other! The chinese red army will move in and take over whats left….
pessimistic I know……but it don’t look good
The article tacitly fingers North Korea as the source of Syria’s plutonium, but there are other possibilities. What about Soviet/Russian supplies, Red China, Pakistan, or even Iran? This was the first I’d heard of Iran’s “research reactor”:
Iran Much Closer to Nuclear Bomb than West Admits
The knowledgeable Israeli Air Force Colonel (Res.) Shmuel Gordon informed recipients of a private publication issued last week that, according to his information, Iran may have accumulated enough fissile material for two to four nuclear bombs.
The colonel refers to the small research reactor with “hot cells” which the United States gave to the shah of Iran in 1967 and which has since then been turning out 0.6 kilos of plutonium every year – a minute amount in Western terms, but in 35 years, Gordon points out, it would have processed 21 kilos – enough for two to three bombs.
Although the reactor is under IAEA inspection, there is no reliable information on the disposition of this product.
Interesting. Especially if the North Koreans told the Americans they had given processed material to the Syrians. And the US in turn told the Israelis.
Would explain the sudden detente between the US and North Korea, wouldn’t it?
The Syrian government issued a press release stating that Israel bombed an empty field.
I think a lid wuz put on “it” for entertainment perposes, just read the above comments:-))))
since “it” wuz under construction since 2003 ( I saw pictures of the sight suposedly dated 2003 and the building wuz there), can anyone say Saddass Insane??????
and then there is the fact that the joos flew F-16s and F-15s in as if they were F-117s, makes one wonder
