You can take the opinion that they are just so incredibly stupid that actually believe Chavez is more than just a power-monger and there is some substance to this peoples’ revolution. Or you can take the opinion that they are as evil as he is, and that they have no problem with protesters being shot and the mass graves that will be coming down the road.
I take the latter opinion.
If you guys want to give the Left a seemingly permanent scold point, then successfully advocate for the U.S. sending the troops into Venezuela. If such comes to pass, you’ll never hear the end of it – nor will your kids and grandkids.
[Trivia point: Allende at least allegedly acted extra-constitutionally before the U.S swung into action to the extent to which it did. As far as I know, Chavez has confined himself to changing the Venezuelan Constituion, but he hasn’t broken it. Point: the U.S had a pretext for intervention in Chile after that point, but it lacks that pretext with respect to present-day Venezuela. Leader Chavex may be bombastic, but he’s careful when it counts.]
Follow-up: in the above, I’m referrring to the 1973 coup, not to any failed attempt to prevent Allende from being seated as President in 1970.
