Socialist logic – there’s a reason it’s an oxymoron;
Mindful of their low-income supporters, the NDP plan would also [give a property tax rebate!] to renters, which would amount to about $500 a year to those paying $700 a month in rent.
At this point early in the campaign, the sense on the street is that voters aren’t getting the one thing they long for – a party that pledges to stay out of their lives, and stop spending their money.
But nobody appears to be listening.

That’s the socialist paradise – everybody living in the apartments, preferably government-owned and subsidized. What did you expect from Marxist-Leninist NDP?
The NDP is the WalMart of politics.
All proletariat all the time.
They would eat the golden goose at thanksgiving.
They are simply not aware of the true source of the gold.
The fools we must suffer is bad enough, but must we support them too?
The socialists have trained voters in Canada to salivate after their own (money) refunds like Pavlov’s dogs salivated about promised food.
Hopefully the voters in Saskatchewan will show more insight to their choice of governance than the majority of fools in Ontario did last week.
That emphasized nobody is telling.
Where does a fiscal and social conservative turn? The NDP and the rest of the left screams about the Sask Party’s hidden right-wing agenda, while those of us on the right scream for them to show it if it’s there.
Saskatchewan residents have become too complacent with the status quo. It’s a Pavlovian reaction: we now expect the government to promise more spending and we eat it up like free socialist licorice.
In other words, the CCF/NDP’s generational brain wash is going as planned.
“At this point early in the campaign, the sense on the street is that voters aren’t getting the one thing they long for – a party that pledges to stay out of their lives, and stop spending their money.”
Are you sure that’s what Saskatchewan voters want? That’s what I thought about my fellow Ontarians, and we didn’t have the history of NDP governments that you do.
As a landlord can I fiddle with my current rents or asking rents to get a little’o my money back?
Just like…er…askin’ eh?
Socialists rock…eh! My ’65 Econoline needs a tune-up to meet Kyoto an’ all.
“….a party that pledges to stay out of their lives, and stop spending their money.”
What the intelligent Saskatchewan voter wants.
We’ll see how many there are very soon.
I smell a potential scam brewing. Any property owner of a multiple dwelling complex can suddenly “grow” all kinds of tenants who then can claim their rebate.
Let’s see I “find” 500 “new” tenants and gross about $250,000.
I wonder if their promise includes farmers that rent land also would it be by the acre or over the whole bill. If it does yikes if it doesn’t where is the fairness. This will cost in the $100s of millions.
Also why wouldn’t I put my house in wife’s name and have the whole family and rent. It would be free money. The bigger the family the better.
But the news media never asks the tough questions. Like requiring the fully costed plans for all of the parties.
Since renters pay property tax through their rents, why shouldn’t they get a rebate?
But I see hidden in the details of the SK Party property tax plan is yet another subsidy for farmers(rebates increasing from 38% to 80%)
Here’s a better idea: Eliminate the education portion of property tax entirely. Pay for it by eliminating ALL subsidies for freeloading farmers. It’s win, win, win. No costly rebate programs. It’s revenue neutral (and then some). It reduces the size of the big government you and the Sask Party claim to abhor.
Will the property tax rebates be as wildly successful as the fuel tax rebates? That was a scam-errific program if there ever was one. Impossible to audit, impossible to prove that it wasn’t your gas.
Yeah, I’m thinking someone will figure this one out for similar results.
“Since renters pay property tax through their rents, why shouldn’t they get a rebate?”
Um, doesn’t the owner of the building get the tax bill? Shouldn’t that owner then get the rebate? If the cost of owning a building goes down rent could (doesn’t have to) go down.
If anything if renters now get $500 /yr, as a land lord couldn’t I raise the rent by $40 a month?
By your logic: I pay corporate taxes through my purchases so should I get company X’s refund?
I feel like a bug in the tiolet bowl with three turds offering me my salvation.
Congrats NDP, your policies of punishing those who work hard and take initiative in order to reward the lazy have worked to a tee. The provinces ambitions are now completely curved to where the majority of the population can now be completely pacified by handouts (or promises of handouts) of their own money. There is now no real conservative party to vote for, just a lighter shade of socialism.
But we are all in the same toilet and continuing to spend beyond the measures of even a booming year will ensure the flush does come.
Manny, that is just plain dumb. The property owner pays the property tax. Does that person get a rebate as well? A double dip is the potential here. As usual, you do not think past your bias.
Manny,
Your logic is screwy.
If renters pay property taxes though rent, if I am the landlord do renters pay the landlords credit card bills? Should the renters get the airmiles/rewards on those credit cards as a rebate?
Landowners are responsible for property taxes. That means they pay them, not the renters.
enough
FWIW – we’ve had rent credits on the provincial tax forms for over 25 years in our Happy socialist paradise of Manitoba.
I actually don’t see what harm it does.
And I’ve never had an income low enough to actually use it!
Fine, such is the problem with rebate programs; applying them fairly and equitably and cost effectively. The solution is to eliminate the education portion of property taxes and pay for it by getting freeloading farmers off of the dole. Simple.
whaddabout the first nations, they need a subsidy or two? or three, or four, …..
hey ForLorne!!!!- there is a 25% vote grab available in Regina for $500/year per no fixed address.
Manny “Fine, such is the problem with rebate programs; applying them fairly and equitably and cost effectively. The solution is to eliminate the education portion of property taxes and pay for it by getting freeloading farmers off of the dole.”
Nothing complictaed. Property owners pay property taxes. A portion of this goes to education. If you do a rebate of excessive property taxes, give it back to whomever pays it. If you rebate it to someone else, that’s a payoff.
enough
Eliminate it, rebate it any way you like. The issue, brain-dead enough is how you pay for it. My solution is to get some freeloaders out of the trough. What’s yours?
I agree with Pierce.
I thought renters already got a tax credit for rental receipts. Would this be a rebate on top of that return?
This is clearly a socialist scam. Nothing really out of the ordinary. Of course the plebeians will go for the scam. It may be the only way to get some of their taxes back.
Of course they are not looking at the socialist position, where they will tighten the socialist control over the populace.
The totalitarian socialists are superbly qualified scammers.
Though it looks like the other parties don’t have much to offer.
See you have to come up with a platform to change things and persuade the population with supporting arguments that it is a better way to go than the socialist. And you hammer and hammer the points until election time. If that does not work, you may sleep well nonetheless, knowing that you have offered a better program then the scammers.
around 300 million per year is collected from property owners in the form of education taxes. roll back the 3 increases to welfare recipients over the last 3 years, cut out the wasteful spending on artsy fartsy crap, manage the oil money windfall better, stop funding cultural groups, put time limits on collecting welfare, allow people that have money to look after their own health care needs, define what is essential and remove the waste, what do you have, 300 million and a new direction for SASKATCHEWAN.
thank you
Wait a second – the Bolsheviks do not support private property ownership in any shape or form. The Dippers of Sask have a hidden agenda to turn the province into one big collective and give the rebates to themselves. It would be a win, win for forlorn and his sad sack supporters. Hutterites would like it too!
So does this mean I will get a rebate on the rent I pay for farm land. I have as much to a rebate as a resident. Oh I forgot. I do not live in the inner city. Lorne does not need my vote.
The SaskaTory party says it will give farmers an 11,000.00 rebate. I hope every school in Rural Sask closes beacause that’s what will happen. Who’s going to make up the shortfall? Who’s going to pay to educate our kids? No one’s asking that question.
