“The Indian was striking him on the head with a two-by-four while he was unconscious.” (Updated)

According to the Globe & Mail, the noble savagelets defending themselves from an unconscious man did so while police stood by and did nothing;

Joe Gualtieri said that his brother survived only because the gang of youths who were hitting his unconscious brother’s head with a piece of wood – possibly an oak rail from the house – ran away when one of Sam’s sons shouted: “He’s dead, he’s dead.”
Mr. Gualtieri was attacked after a Thursday protest stopped construction at the Stirling South building development in Caledonia, southwest of Hamilton. The 90-unit subdivision, on eight hectares, is about one kilometre from the disputed Douglas Creek development, which has been occupied by protesters from the nearby Six Nations reserve since February, 2006.
In an interview shortly after Sam Gualtieri underwent an MRI in a Hamilton hospital yesterday, his brother said Mr. Gualtieri was attacked when he went back to see what was happening at the house.
Joe Gualtieri said Ontario Provincial Police officers on the site “stood there, and they did not intervene” until after the beating, when the attackers had fled.
[…]
The confederacy has adopted a policy of seeking development agreements with those building on the Haldimand Tract, a strip of land 9½ kilometres either side of the Grand River, and its lawyer Aaron Detlor has been in Caledonia negotiating with Mr. Kragten.
Haldimand Mayor Marie Traynor described the proposed development fee as “like the old-time Mafia, isn’t it? That’s what people have been telling me. That’s how they see it, and I have to agree. If you give me some money, I’ll leave you alone.”

  1. …OPP saw this and did nothing?
Sure hate to be an OPP putting on a uniform today, imagine the guilt.
First the RCMP and their fingers dipped in with AdScam, now the OPP not being the OPP.
What next, dog catchers going on the ham with cats?

  2. These little crusaders sound a lot like the Palestinians and others of that ilk. Yasser Arafat always used to claim that he was trying hard to control the radical elements associated with the PLO, but that there was only so much he could do.
This was really a euphemism for “I like what the radical element is doing, more power to them, and it allows me to come along and be the good cop.”
So when MacNaughton says “The confederacy was not aware of the movement,” you know that’s complete and utter BS.
I wonder what would have happened had Joe Gualtieri been killed? Heaven forbid it occured, but even that probably would not have been enough to shake Ontario voters to their senses.
As for the RCMP, they’ve made the calculation that a builder getting knocked over the head with a 2×4 is ultimately less of a headache than doing the right thing. In other words the Six Natives have them by the balls. What a joke it is.

  3. TJ: “RCMP…In other words the Six Natives have them by the balls.”
    Wrong on two counts.
    1. It was the OPP, but there are RCMP around.
    2. The OPP is a neutered PC outfit and therefore don’t have, well, never mind.
Remember their past female top cop – shuttled off quietly to grand ol’ Ireland.

  4. If the brother can back up the comments that the police knew what was happening, did nothing, then allowed the perps to escape, there should be an investigation into their conduct.
God, police pepper sprayed some protesters (painful but not life threatening) and we got a judicial type inquiry.
Rule of law must prevail. The police owe it to the people, all the people, to break up this protection racket.

  5. Tomax, last year the occupiers beat up an old couple AND a friggin CHTV news crew right in front of 10+ OPP. Where have you been?
Tell you something else, if this Quattrociocci guy takes a stick to any of these pukes for smashing up his job site he’ll be in jail so f-cking fast they’ll have to send his underwear in a cab.
I’ve talked to the cops. Hell, I got pulled over by them last summer for taking pictures of the DCE. Kids that pulled me over (full tactical stop by the way) were from Walkerton. They are not happy. The OPP is pulling guys in from all over Ontario and has been since this started. These guys are far from home and they don’t like it.
But being cops, they follow orders. Their orders can be inferred from their actions. Hands off the Indians, no matter what they are doing. Like -really-, no matter what. I can only imagine what they must have threatened the rank and file with to make that stick.
Anybody think OPP Commissioner Fantino made that decision himself?

  6. A police officer who stands idly by when a crime gets committed (especially the near killing of a man) is not a police officer but is no better then the criminal who commits the crime, period. What BS is it to say “I just followed orders”. That has been the excuse of any state employed thug since the beginning of time. If the police doesn’t enforce the laws who will? I fear that sooner or later the people will take matters in their own hands and I don’t think that they will distinguish between the criminals and the OPP.

  7. Oh and by the way, the OPP in Caledonia isn’t using encrypted radio. They are broadcasting in clear on the usual police bands.
Meaning everybody who gets pulled over has their name, address, plate number and DL number read out over the open air.
Which is why I don’t have any pictures from the DCE -this- summer. Discretion is the better part of valor.
    Nice province, eh?

  8. Commissioner Fantino is a willing participant or he would have resigned! How do you think 6 million Jews were killed by Hitler and untold millions of Russians by Stalin? They never killed anybody but WILLING participants did.Remember that.

  9. djinbc, “the people” already did take the law into their own hands. This guy got beat because he obviously asked the cops for help and they told him no. So he went in himself and they beat him.
This stuff doesn’t happen in some kind of vacuum you know, there was probably twenty or thirty people standing around when this went down. Cops are under orders to control the residents with force and not to touch the natives. Period.
They do as they are told, because the ones who don’t aren’t cops for long.
Why do you think I continuously rage on against taxes and gun control? Cops do what’s best for cops, same as politicians do what’s good for politicians. Its a civil service job, for crap sakes! What do you think they’re going to do?
You want to keep your car, your house, your life, you better know you are going to be doing it yourself. Ain’t no cop going to save you when it all hits the fan.
Even if they want to they aren’t going to BE there, and the fact is they are going to be much more concerned about covering their own butts than saving yours.
    Tax cut, now please.

  10. it’s unfortunate joe’s family aren’t connected as it were. the youts need to be disiplined. severly.

I wasn’t talking about one guy; I was talking about vigilante groups. I am quite aware that the only person to protect you is yourself. I took my kids out of the school system years ago and home schooled them, my whole family knows what to do when push comes to shove. A few years ago we moved into the boonies, people here seem to be able to think straight for the most part.
I come from a country that bordered on the former Soviet Union. Having been in the military there for years I have first hand knowledge of how socialism deals with people who resent their tender ministrations.

  12. Extortion by violence used to be illegal in Canada.
Perhaps ordinary Canadians could pool their money together somehow and hire law enforcement officials from the United States?
That would be more useful than begging Dolton McGuinty to do something.

  13. A police officer who stands idly by when a crime gets committed…
is just like a Nazi officer watching the beatings of Jewish prisoners.
    “I was just following orders.”

  14. The Ontario politicians seem to think that their constituents care if thugs like this are harmed by the police using force to protect private property and to intercede when they witness a crime – especially a violent crime.
    Wrong.
Use whatever force is necessary. No more. No less. It’s why we fund the police.

  15. Can you imagine if you replaced “natives” with “bikers” how different this story would play out? If a group of hells angels decided they owned a housing devolpment and decided to take it by force and beat up the owners when they didn’t comply we would see the full swat team out.

  16. djinbc, I fervently hope we avoid the formation of vigilante groups. That will mean the complete breakdown of social order around here, and it will get people killed. Once that crap gets out of the bottle you don’t stuff it back in again in an afternoon.
I was in the Canadian militia just long enough to gain an appreciation of the amazing destructiveness of modern weapons and how easy it is to screw up with them. The thought of weapons like that going off in Caledonia keeps me awake nights.

  17. You can only push people so far before they snap. This incident may be the catalyst for the people to regain thier pride and do what should have been done months ago by the gov’t. In Detroit, when the cops did nothing about the crackhouses the neighbours burnt them down. In the maritimes a little while ago ,the same thing happened. If they did this to one of my family or friends,I would not be sitting idly by waiting for the gov’t to decide if something should be done.

  18. And there ladies and gentlemen, you have the results of a touchey feeley Liberal government.
Mafia like Indians shaking people down and ready to kill them if they don’t buck up and the cops do nothing to protect the innocent but would mobilize a S.W.A.T. team if someone (a white someone) shot these thugs. Of course they’d do nothing if the shootings were done by Indians, other than much posturing and taking of photos.
    Strange Brew
    Pat

  19. The OPP aren’t exactly known for doing anything particularly useful other than being a tool for politicians to selectively enforce law….yet some people still call them when bad things are happening.
During the last election campaign Mr McGuinty blamed the Conservatives for the Dudley George/Ipperwash thing.
Now Mr. McGuinty has chosen to blame the federal Conservative government for the Caledonia thing. McGuinty is truly an accomplished blamemaster who I hope and pray will be returned to opposition benches this fall.

  21. Right, Joanne, hope they sue the McGuinty government.
Have we reached the point where Indian thugs think they can get away with murder? Hitting a person over the head with a two by four repeatedly could kill and this man may have serious injuries to deal with for the rest of his life.
I’m sick of the impotent OPP and RCMP and the Provincial government passing the buck while these out of control bastards do whatever they please.

  22. Vigilantism does have one very useful purpose, speeding up REALITY. I have often wondered if this same violence was used directly against the political elite just how fast they would find a reason to get involved and change things.

  23. The bigger problem for the province, the people and the OPP is what refusal to enact the law breeds in the people. At some point people will take the law into their own hands if the powers that be will not defend them when they are assaulted. I’m not an advocate of vigilantism but you can bet your bottom dollar it will come if police do nothing when assaults occur.

  24. Let’s put it this way. We own land near a reserve. We are planning on building on it in the next few years. If any native shows up trying to extort us, they will be met with extreme violence. The OPP have abdicated their responsibility to the people of this province, and they can go f#$% themselves. Other people might allow thugs and punks to intimidate them, but not this family.

  25. Mark Peters, its not just a problem for the Province of Ontario. You can bet that all of these shenanigans are being closely watched by natives right across Canada.
I wonder if there are enough concerned citizens in this country to get a campaign going to instruct our Governments both federal and provincial to put an immediate end to this nonsense, and we must insist on the rule of law equally applied.
We, the people are the masters of our country.
Im am sure that we can convince our politicians of the error of their ways if enough of us get on the bandwagon.
If there are not enough people concerned about this issue, then we will have to live with what we get, and it wont be pretty.

  26. “like the old-time Mafia, isn’t it? That’s what people have been telling me. That’s how they see it, and I have to agree. If you give me some money, I’ll leave you alone.”
Hmmm. I wonder why the blessed First Nation, Aboriginal, without original sin folks are acting like the Mafia? I mean, its not like they run gaming institutions just like the Mafia used to do while the corrupt police and judiciary look the other way.
I mean their gaming operations are LEGAL.

  27. The gaming operations may be legal, but as far as I can tell assault, peddling drugs, selling contraband tobacco and smuggling illegal immigrants is not. Sounds like organized crime to me!

  28. Hey, where’s ET and her assorted sockpuppets who claim that there is no such thing as race?
I guess we all must be imagining the ten billion dollars we spend on a particular race, and that we are all imagining how the OPP treats one race differently than other races.
Everyone is the same. Everyone has an equal point of view. There’s only one race; that’s why Indians can beat the crap out of whitey right in front of the cops, you see.

  29. That police were standing by watching this whole incident is unbelievable. They are criminally liable for what happened to Mr. Gualtieri’s injuries and the excuse “I was just following orders” is no defence. The Nuremberg trials put an end to the “I was just following orders” excuse.
What Mr. Gualtieri’s relatives should do is launch individual civil actions against each of the police responsible. Criminal charges would probably be quashed by the government, but the Ontario government has no jurisdiction over the civil courts (and is, I believe already in comtempt of court for failing to do anything about the occupation).
Suing individual officers for failure to perform their duty would likely have a much more significant impact than going after the government that has vastly greater resources. Just being named in a lawsuit and having ones cowardice publicized world-wide would make the other police who “just follow orders” think twice about those orders when peoples lives are in danger and they could easily intervene. The officers who stood by might be usefull as toilet attendants or concentration camp guards.
Seeing as it appears to be un-Canadian to come up with nice simple solutions to this problem like turning the occupiers camp into a free-fire zone and bomb practice range for CF-18’s, I offer a kindler, gentler solution. While in the midst of my last Norwalk virus infection (an occupational hazard), in my delerious state while doing my best to vomit up my intestines, it occurred to me that something good might come of this episode. I felt that this singular experience ought to be shared with other people and this would be done through the production of large quantities of Norwalk virus which could either be put on letters or blown into air intake ducts of say the Liberal party headquarters. I have no idea whether a weaponized version of the Norwalk virus exists; it is a nasty bug that is essentially non-fatal in young people although I’ve had patients tell me that during the worst of the infection they were afraid they weren’t going to die. It’s over in 24 hours although cleaning the bathroom afterwards may take several days more. The spread of Norwalk virus is through aerosolized vomit. It takes a rather miniscule quantity of Norwalk virus to cause an infection. Getting the virus in quantity is the only problem, but a couple of radio controlled model aircraft with an aerosol dispersal mechanism could fly over the occupied land and the fun would begin in about 24 hours.
It’s rather difficult to fight when one simultaneously has uncontrollable vomiting and diarrhea.

  30. It’s a good old bigot festival here today, isn’t it?
First things first – no condoning the violence, if things went down Joe said they did. However, Joe said alot in the article, and I didn’t see much proof.
Anyone else notice the irony in several of these comments? Comments about “If they mess with me, they will be met with extreme violence” sound REALLY tough on the internet (no really, they do), but that is essentially what the protesters are saying, isn’t it? “Don’t build on our land, and if you try there will be trouble”? Most non-bigots would recognize this, but racist f&$@heads never really grasp onto that idea.
Comparisons to the mafia and other organized crime? – Silly, grasping.
Comparisons of kids beating up some dude in front of police to Hitler and the Holocaust? Offensive, desperate, and bordering on maniacal. You should see a doctor of some kind.
The article is rife with “Joe Said”s – sprinkled everywhere. I thought you guys were always wary of taking at face value anything in the MSM – especially the communist dhimmy leftard evil outfit calling itself the Globe and Mail? What happened? I think it’s likely that you read something that appealed to your angry native-hating nature, and absolutely forgot about your prior criticisms of the evil left MSM. Smarten up.
Good luck with that militia, and importing American police. No, seriously, great ideas…nothing weird or radical about any of that…not at all.
I wish I knew how things really went down – “Joe Said”s are just not good enough anymore. I wonder if and what Sam may have said or done prior to assault?

  31. @kingstonlad:
I wonder how long it will be before the non-native part of Canada think, “if the Injuns can do it, why can’t we?” All it would take is “Indian-agent government” – treating the non-native peones as if they were the “Injuns.”
This process was one of the tinder sparks that got the American Revolution going, in the 1770s and perhaps earlier.

  32. loki – are you advocating the use of biological weapons? On Canadian citizens to boot?
    Hmmmmmm.
If the rest of you don’t stomp all over him for that, then you’re all a bunch of hypocrites. Reminds me of the discussions around the “moderate muslims” who have to “speak out against the hijacking of their faith by the radical element”.
The irony is delicious, and loki (and SDA) may need to read up on Human Rights law in Canada.
    Biological weapons = bad.

  33. Sooooooo… after all this chatter…… 285 signatures at the Caledonia Wake Up Call site…
    285… NOT 3000, NOT 10,000!!!!!!
A demonstration of Ontario apathy if I have ever seen it.
    Very impressive people.
Less talkee, talkee (or blogee, blogee), more signee, signee…

  34. andrew:
It’s racist policies which got this predicament going in the first place.
If people stuck to the fact that there was only one race, the human race, and treated everybody equally under the law, how do you suppose this incident would have happened?

  35. Daniel M. Ryan – so it’s ok to treat the “injuns” one way, but as soon as you treat non-natives the same way it’s time to take drastic measures?
Sounds kinda like what the folks in Caledonia are doing, dontcha think?

  36. Thank you ET sockpuppet set you free for confirming that you live in an imaginary academic world where there is no such thing as race.
I’m sure the man who was beaten by a two by four by Indians in front of the cops and the southern Ontario homeowners who are being terrorized and extorted by Indians appreciate your denial of reality. You keep living in your PC world with no races and leave grownup conversations to the grownups, m-kay?

  37. Throbin, you are vermin. A Canadian, who only wanted to build a home for his daughter, was trying to protect it from criminal thugs while politically directed police officers ignored their sworn duty to protect him and his property. He is lying near death, and you have the gall to use the event as a platform from which to spew your ideology. Kingstonlad tends to blow a bit but, at least he knows the difference between right and wrong, which you clearly don’t.
Comparisons to the Mafia aren’t justified? Try talking to some of the native people who have been terrorized by well-organized criminals like the Mohawk “Warriors” and you’ll get a new and broader perspective on life!
In three or four years of surfing the net I’ve read some wild comments but, yours is the most disgusting posting that I’ve ever seen. Where is your humanity? Shame, shame, shame.
Please crawl back under your rock.

  38. “I wonder if and what Sam may have said or done prior to assault?”
In his house, on his property, a man is assaulted and beaten unconscious by four men with no right to be there – and then beaten some more, just because. What matters it what he said prior to his beating? Even if it was ‘Hit me until I’m brain-dead’? Or is the implication that he probably used a racial slur, and this is automatic forgiveness for anything done to him thereafter?
“First things first – no condoning the violence, if things went down Joe said they did.”
Ok. Don’t condone the violence, no matter how it went down. Then perhaps your ranting against any other poster’s violent urges here will have more weight.

  39. *
The Caledonia home builder beaten unconscious during a confrontation at a Stirling
South subdivision told family today that he recognized his attacker.

“I know who he is,” Sam Gualtieri told his brother Joe from his hospital bed today.
    *

  40. Zog – you’re an idiot.
What’s the first thing I said in my first comment on this thread? “First things first – no condoning the violence, if things went down Joe said they did. However, Joe said alot in the article, and I didn’t see much proof.”
It’s up there in plain english – if things went down the way Joe said they did, then the actions of those kids cannot be condoned.
    Accepting apologies anytime…
I know Mohawks from Akwesasne, folks who told me about their little spat. I have heard first-hand accounts of what things were like there. Your point is? What does any of that have to do with Caledonia?
Think about that whole “the Indians are doing what we are talking about doing” thing a little bit more.
To the commenter who said that the indians fit all the criteria of a terrorist organization – Care to share those criteria?
Need a solution Lee – how about settling the land claims in that area once and for all?

  41. i prefer mafia to be in charge
they take care of you ( pay less than taxes)
    and they have honour
    not like guys from govn’t
cross the line and you dead
    that’s what i like
    in Canada

  42. T Robert Wolfram – how do we know Sam didn’t initiate the violence? How do we know those young folks didn’t go to his house to politely remind Sam that they are protesting, and respectfully ask him to leave? How do we know they didn’t go over for afternoon tea?
Unless you are relying on “Joe Said”s, you might want to ask those same questions.

  43. @Throbbin:
Evidently, you missed the point. What I was referring to was the government treating non-natives as the natives used to be treated a long time ago. I trust I don’t have to elaborate on the further point that the native population already have undertaken “drastic measures.”
@everyone else: I noted that, in the latest Ottawa protest, the native (or pro-native) protestors invoked the “Honour of the Crown.” I suggest keeping this phrase in mind.
