Freshman Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN), the only Muslim in U.S. Congress, has set off a firestorm of controversy after comparing President Bush to Adolf Hitler, and suggesting that the Bush Administration may have been complicit in the terror attacks of 9/11.
That didn’t take long.
(More here)
Update: Video now up.

So what I’m not sure of: given the support many muslims have had of Hitler, is he saying that Bush’s similarity to Hitler is a good thing or a bad thing?
In another five years people will be comparing Adolf Hitler to George Bush.
There’s more here from the Power Line guys because it’s in their backyard. Including a well-deserved vicious attack on Minnesota’s version of the Red Star, the Star Tribune:

“While attending law school, Ellison wrote several articles in support of Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam, which caused controversy in his 2006 election campaign. (see below) In 1990 he graduated with a degree of Juris Doctor.”

Enough said. He’s a racist and a hater. Raised a Catholic, educated by Jesuits, converted to Islam, he’s a poster boy for the typical self-loathing, America-loathing lefty. It appears he owes his success in the primaries to a heavily supported college student turnout. Scary, isn’t it.

Fascism is fascism – and the only fascists of note are Islamic fascists – and the German and Italian fascists of WWII.
Converts to any ideology are often irrational fanatics – and this is an example.
In the future, everyone will be compared to Hitler.
For now, you just have to be a person with principles.
(And yes, I know the right hates Bush for immigration, but did Bush ever campaign on securing the borders?)
I’m sure his constituents are very happy with their choice. Maybe he’s just trying to provide a reason for recall legislation.
Is this really the evil Mooselim culture talking or is this another indoctrinated Dem name calling the head GOP a Nazi while the GOP call the Dems “traitors” and “Commies”.
Seems like normal degenerate partisanism as usual with a Mooselim spin put on it.
No wonder voter opinion of congress is in the sink.
Greeeeaat, a troofer in Congress.
WLM,
Fair question on the first part. This is a relatively standard line from the more hard core Dem’s, MoveOn.org etc etc
As for the second….let me put it in the negative. It is NOT unfair to attach Muslim to the question given that he is and the basis of his argument is how Bush is treating Muslims.
SO if he cannot figure out the context he is not as smart a man as he would appear.
As for this comment “you know, that’s how they put you in the nut-ball box – dismiss you”
I think he may be too late on that one. But I am sure the good voters of Minnesota will not have an issue electing him again.
If having nutters like him randomly elected isnt proof to Avi Lewis of America being a real democracy then nothing else would do it.
Penny: Enough said. He’s a racist and a hater.
ET: Fascism is fascism…Converts to any ideology are often irrational fanatics – and this is an example.
Stephen: This is a relatively standard line from the more hard core Dem’s, MoveOn.org etc etc
Oh, please. Spare us the shrill indignation, self-righteous pronouncements, and revisionist “only the Dems and lefties stoop to this level” absurdities. Let’s not forget that comparing one’s opponent to the Nazis is a not uncommon line from Republicans too…
Former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), May 2005: “[What the Democrats are doing]–it’s the equivalent of Adolf Hitler in 1942 saying, ‘I’m in Paris. How dare you invade me. How dare you bomb my city? It’s mine.'”
More here and here. WLMR is right — this is just stupid political mudslinging, an activity to which neither party can claim to be above.
I guess you just have to remember who was a real ally of Hitler, arab muslims. Previous post, what really happened in the middle east.
Q. What will we say when there are 50 Muslims like Keith Ellison in the Congress?
A. “Thank you, immigration-enthusiasts!”
Western Canadian: I guess you just have to remember who was a real ally of Hitler, arab muslims.
So were the Italians, Japanese, Hungarians, Romanians, Slovaks, Bulgarian, Croatians, etc. What’s your point?
A’damn
“”””So were the Italians, Japanese, Hungarians, Romanians, Slovaks, Bulgarian, Croatians, etc. What’s your point?””””
let me ask you WHAT is your point
segemnets of your mentioned supporters would (and do) still support fascism
I know members of just about everyone of your mentioned groups, and there are days that what they expound is not very pretty
A’dam
Shrill? let me lower my voice an octave or so for you.
Come on, did I say they were exclusive idiots. So I am quite happy to say uses of Hitler is generally beyond the pale in most comparisons, as he represents a yardstick in evil that I would be hard pressed to find a comparison to, Stalin maybe but Hitler had a special kind of stank about him that really puts him in a different league.
So now that I have made it clear that Santorum made stupid and ill considered statements would you agree that Mr Ellison engaged in similar loss of sanity on those statements. As well, would you consider any statement that refers to Bushitler and 9/11 as an inside job or that the US government knew to be equally retarded and not worthy of anyone with a 3 digit to the left of the decimal point IQ.
I agree that both sides use it….just seems to be an awful lot more common out of the left wing of the democratic party lately.
Just another useful fool for the dems is what he is, and if he stays around too long after they
are finished with him, they will do a Michael
Moore and Cinday Sheehan with him.
Poor Moore, what a shock when CNN turned on him,
or asked him some tough questions, he is used to
sitting big with the liberals. Big change here,
and he is finally getting it.
Should be interesting, I don’t think MM will be
a quiet or decent enemy. He may know where some
bodies are bured as well.
Cindy is simply losing it totally.
Another of the uterly stupid jackass party and this time a uterly stupud muslim jackass TIE AKNOT IN ITS TAIL
Ahhh…. can’t we all just… get along?
đŸ™‚
GYM: let me ask you WHAT is your point. segemnets of your mentioned supporters would (and do) still support fascism.
Sigh. Fine, GYM, I’ll spell it out for you. Western Canadian commented that Arab Muslims were the “real allies” of Hitler, by which, given the general tenor of comments on SDA vis-a-vis Islam, he seems to imply that Arab Muslims today would most make the most accurate comparison group to the Nazis. This sort of ridiculous insinuation is precisely the topic of this post.
My point was that while Western Canadian’s comment may be historically accurate in a narrow sense (and even then, only somewhat — a mere fraction of Arabs were active collaborators), his insinuation remains invalid. Despite their support for Hitler during WWII, nobody implies that the Japanese, Italians, etc. of today are, as a group, comparable to the Nazis. Same rules of logic should apply for others, including Arab Muslims.
Stephen, really, what’s the point of tacking on “…just seems to be an awful lot more common out of the left wing of the democratic party lately” to your last sentence, which begins so promisingly with, “I agree that both sides use it…”?
It’s a childish parting shot at politicians whose views you don’t like, a back-handed snipe masquerading as a concession, and exactly the sort of petty partisan bickering that continues to erode political dialogue. It’s equivalent to saying “Fine, we can be dumb, but you guys are more dumb!” Oh, bravo. A gold star for you.
Oh, and read the last sentence of my first post, where I already stated that all sides — Ellison included — can be guilty of stupidity.
